Submit, obey
Coral's POV
These are the rules of the game.
- No using your wings
- Powers are accepted, unless you're Fang, "because that's totally not fair"
- If Max catches you, you have to tell her.
"GO!"
I ran on Zhones call, giggling. The sunlight streaming down and warming my hair, it was easy to forget about the events of the last day. As fast as I could, I ran into the forest and ducked behind a tree. I looked up to find Iggy sitting above me. He chuckled.
I let out a huff. "This so isn't fair. You should have to tell her. YOU did it."
He made a tsk, tsk sound. "Ah, yes, but who was the one who dared me to do it, hmmm?"
I glared at him, as if that could make a difference in his cocky attitude. "As you should recall, I didn't. That was all Cork and Nudge."
He opened his mouth to say something, but was cut off when a nearly heart stopping sound echoed from the cabin.
"YOU GUYS ARE SO DEAD!"
At Max's voice, I took off deeper into the maze of trees, soon followed by Iggy.
"Quit following me!"
"The rules say nothing about that. Besides, I'm handicapped. You wouldn't leave me behind to take Max's wrath, would you?,
I stifled a laugh. "You, handicapped? As if. Even if you were, I would still want you to buzz off. This is YOUR fault."
He shook his head. "Not just me. Gazzy too."
"Your older! You should know better!"
He seemed annoyed when I scolded him like a child, and I smiled a bit in satisfaction. He was quiet as we ran, hoping Max wouldn't hear us. My feet crunched softl in fallen leaves and I grinned. Autum was my favorite season. I heard the leaves stirring behind me, and knew it couldn't be Iggy. I could practically smell the anger in the air.
"IGGY!"
I whirled around, knowing it was too late. I shoved Ig forward towards Max, who had just emerged from the trees. He gave a lopsided grin which cause Max to scowl, and me to, strangely, smile also.
"You see... We uh... We're a bit bored. And uh..." Iggy stuttered. "And we thought that your jacket would make a nice... Uh... Firework."
That last word was a bit quieter than the rest, but still loud enough to be heard.
You could almost see steam coming from Max's ears. I, being the little devil I was, snuck quietly away, leaving Iggy to take the heat. I turned and ran through the forest, hunting down the other kids. I spotted Cork in a tree.
"Cork! Iggy got caught! Spread the word!"
Cork popped easily out of the tree and, after a dorky thumbs up in my direction, bounded off, spraying sparks. It occurred to me that he would be extremely easy to track, if ever need be. I mean... Really. He leaves a trail of singed leaves.
A few hours and rants and punishments later, we were all setting in the living room, selecting a movie. Zhone pulled The Hunger Games out of the cabinet and grinned. "Found it!"
Angel made a pouty face. "I don't like that movie. Can we watch Dipicable Me?"
We all sighed. We knew she would get what she wanted, just like the last seven times we watched that movie. Her Bambi eyes were irresistible.
"Fine."
"Yes!"
We popped the movie in and sat back. At some point, I think I must've fallen asleep, because I don't remember anything after "He's so fluffy!"
It was late by then anyways, so it was okay. I dreamed that I was a firefly with magic lightning powers. In a tent. In the back of a moving truck. With the Ninja Turtles. Huh.
Max's POV
Despite myself, I fell asleep during the movie, so everyone else decided not to wake me up and leave me and Coral in the living room. Around midnight, I woke up for no reason that I could tell, because I was still tired, but that's not really the point. Once I was up, I heard a noise in the hall.
Probably just one of the boys. But then again...
I stood up to get a closer look, but (just my luck) a hand came around from behind and cupped over my mouth, and another gabbed me around my waist. Acting on instinct, I jerked my head back to get in a good solid head butt on whoever my assaultant was, but the person was ready. He shoved a sack over my head, (always with the sack!) and tied it shut. I heard Coral stir and gasp, then jump up.
"Wha- Mmmphhrrrmmmfff."
My keen ears picked up three things. Another sack, a grumble, and some sort of metal on metal.
A knife.
I didn't catch anything else, because as expected, some chemical was in the bag, and, before long, I was unconscious.
When I wake up, I'm in some sort of small wooden building. Maybe a shed. I'm not in a cage, which is good, but I quickly realize that being chained to the wall is probably worse. Coral is slumped next to me, looking tired and yet... In better shape than me. She's clean, wearing new clothes, and has her hair pulled up in a nice bun. She looked up at me, a dead, hollow look in her eyes. When she speaks, her voice is monotone and flat.
"Submit to Itex. Obey your superiors."
"Coral? Uh... Earth to Coral?"
"The way to survive is to give in."
I grumbled a rude word under my breath. They did something to her brain. Just great. Absolutely. Perfect.
Review and stuff! Hope you didn't find it too awful! ;-)
