Woah, look! An update! Hmmm... I've been slacking off. Sorry about that! But anyway, this chapter is really short and boring, but there was a purpose to this whole endeavor. So... Here we go.
The escape
Max's POV
"Listen, Coral, we are going to escape tonight." I told Coral one morning, after approximately a week had passed.
She gave a confused look. "Why?"
"Because I said so."
"The whitecoats won't be happy about it."
"Don't care."
"But I don't want to go."
"Too bad."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Okay, I'm not doing this 'yes, no' thing with you. You are coming. That's final." I gave her a death glare that said 'Don't you say another word.'
She didn't care. "Why should I?"
I sighed loudly in frustration. "Because I intend to enjoy my freedom once more, whether you like it or not."
"Why do I have to come?"
"Personally, right now, I'd rather leave you behind! But I know if I will, I'll regret it. Now shut your trap and listen. The only way out is through the loading dock, or whatever you call it, where the trucks come in. We can't just fly away, because the whole thing is surronded in elecric netting. Tonight, I'm going to draw attention to is, by yelling or something. I'll tell them we want some exercise. When they unlock it, we'll make a break for it. Once we're out, we'll do an up and away, then I can get us out of there before they start shooting. Kapeesh?"
"Alright, fine. But I'm not helping. I'm simply going with you."
I groaned. "Fine. I can pull your weight too."
At about midnight, I started yelling at the top of my lungs.
"Hey! Whitecoats! Yo! I need you over here! Yoohoo! Hey! Wow, you guys are slow! I just need to stretch my legs! Hey!"
The same woman as the first day open the door and moonlight streamed through. I had since learned her name was Courtney. "What do you need, Max?"
I had been preparing. As much as it hurt me, I had been cooperating all week to gain their trust. I was so proud of myself.
"Coral and I want some exercise."
"Alright, you can go walk around in the yard."
She stepped over and unlocked our chains, and lead us outside. "You have ten minutes."
"Ok."
She left and went back to the main barn, which was considerably larger than the "storage sheds." I had been in there once or twice. It was where they did the operations and kept the "in progress" mutants. Once I saw a little boy duck taped to the wall. He died yesterday.
Of cousre, we weren't without a guard, since there were always several patrolling and watching the yard. But we could near the exit without looking suspicious. We wandered around aimlessly for a minute, then got slowly into a steady walk near the electric fence. This wasn't suspicious either, since this is the typical place to jog. As we neared the exit, I began to inconspicuously watch for gaurds. Only one near the exit. Careless. About forty feet from the exit, we were supposed to turn around and go the other way. Instead, I broke into a sprint, followed by Coral.
A guard yelled at us, "Hey! Come back!"
Of course, Coral and I were both faster than him, or any other guard, but they had a special security guard on duty tonight.
His name was Cage. I despised him. He wasn't a whitecoat, and he wasn't an eraser, but I hated his putrid guts. He had a slight mutation to him; a small addition of pronghorn antelope DNA. I knew from his flaunting that he could run at over 60 mph. I grabbed Coral's arm and ran faster. Cage was rapidly closing in on us, but there were only a few feet more to go. Just as he made a grab at my shirt collar, I unfurled my wings, and smacked him square in the face with my powerful wings. I took off and laughed.
"In your face! Literally!"
Coral jumped up after me, and I grabbed her arms.
"Hold on, robot girl."
I zipped out of sight faster than you could say 'freedom.'
Ok, so... Review! And sorry about the minuscule detail on this whole event! It actually doesn't have much significance other than the after effects. Until later that is. The next chapter will be out sooner I hope!
