Learning the Legend and Traveling to the Dragon City
Miyuki let out a groan as she began to regain consciousness again before she slowly opened her eyes. Her vision was a little blurry at first but it soon cleared after a moment. She saw that she was in some kind of room that was made completely out of wood. Miyuki also discovered that she was lying on a soft bed with sheets covering her up to her shoulders.
"W-where am I?" voiced Miyuki in a weak voice.
Miyuki slowly sat up as she pushed the covers off the top part of her body. Once the covers were off of her Miyuki saw that she was in her short sleeve light blue shirt, winter trousers and socks. The shirt was a wide collar t-shirt where the lower part of the shirt stretched towards the middle of Miyuki's upper tights. On the sides of the shirt were two slits that started at the bottom hem of her shirt before they stopped almost near her hips. The hem of her shirt collar and the edges of her sleeves and bottom hem of her shirt were white. Around Miyuki's waist was a white waist belt with dark blue edgings. On both of her lower arms were two dark blue armguards with white edgings. Her necklace was still attached to her neck as the crystal hung in front of her chest.
"Who stripped me down to my spring clothing?" voiced Miyuki curiously.
Suddenly she heard the door to the room being opened and Miyuki quickly turned her attention towards it, and what she saw surprised her to no end. Standing in the doorway was a creature that she had never seen before in her homeland.
The creature was a humanoid feline that stood up on its hind legs and looked to be as tall as a man if not higher. The creature had yellow fur with black ringlet spots dotting all over its body with black riming around its blue eyes. The creature's two pointed ears were black on the outside and white on the inside. The creature also had white fur on its muzzle, front paw hands and paw feet. The creature was wearing a brown sleeveless tunic that stretched down towards its knees. Hanging from the creatures shoulders was a red hooded cape that was lined with yellow trimming and pinned to the cape was a triple yin-yang symbol. On the creature's lower arms were red armguards, while on its lower legs were red leg guards. The feline creature's body was lean body, but it also show that it was slightly muscular.
Miyuki speechlessly gazed at the strange creature that stood before her, while she took in its details. Then suddenly, what happened next really surprised her…the creature spoke.
"So you're a wake," said the creature in a deep male voice as he entered the room while closing the door behind him. "Good, I was hoping that you would regain consciousness today."
Miyuki instantly recognized the creature's voice as the strange figure that she had rescued her before she had passed out.
"Y-you're the one that helped me when those creatures attacked me in that valley," spoke Miyuki in a soft voice.
"Yes," replied the creature as he walked up to Miyuki before he sat down in a chair that stood next to the bed. "It was lucky that I stumbled upon you, otherwise those gremlins would have killed you."
"Gremlins?" echoed Miyuki out of confusion.
"The creatures that were attacking you," said the creature.
"Oh," muttered Miyuki as she scratched the back of her head sheepishly.
The creature stared intently at Miyuki for a second before he spoke. "You aren't from this realm are you young one."
"Um…n-no," answered Miyuki with a shake of her head as she let her hand drop down to her lap again. "I-I'm not…you see I'm from the southern artic regions where I live with the Southern Water Tribe."
"The Southern Water Tribe?" echoed the creature. "I've never heard of that clan before."
"Y-you haven't?" asked Miyuki in surprise.
"No," replied the creature. "Nether have I seen a being like you before, not to mention one that has the able to manipulate water from the river and encase the gremlins within it, while turning the water into ice in the process."
"I was also surprised by what I did as well," said Miyuki. "You see…back where I come from I wasn't able to bend water like my people did."
"Bend?" asked the creature curiously.
Miyuki nodded at the creature's question before the feline raised a hand up towards his muzzle, and started to go into thought. Miyuki could see that the creature was contemplating on what she had just told him, and was beginning to think that he didn't believe her. The creature didn't speak for a moment, but soon did and what he said next made Miyuki confused.
"Tell me young one, have you ever heard of a land called Avalar?"
"N-no, I haven't" replied Miyuki with a stutter.
"Just as I thought," muttered the creature.
"Huh?"
"The reason I asked that question was to know if you are from this land," answered the creature. "Otherwise you would have recognized what I was at first glance and know the name of Avalar instantly."
"What are you…?" that was when Miyuki trailed off as she started to remember what had happened to her before she had woken up in the valley where she had encountered those gremlins. "Of course…now I remember. I was on a boat to head out into the world to find my own path when this man came up to me and started to harass me. I then found myself pressed up against the railing of the boat as the man had me cornered. Then I somehow summoned fire from my hands before I fell over the railing and started plummeting towards the ocean. After that I…"
"Wait a minute," interrupted the creature. "Did you say that you just summoned fire from your hands?"
"Yeah," replied Miyuki. "But the people from the water tribe aren't supposed to bend fire, only water. The only ones who can bend fire are the people from the Fire Nation and the Avatar."
The creature gave Miyuki a confused look for he didn't understand half the words that she was trying to tell him. Miyuki saw the look and quickly felt her face heat up when she realized that she had gone off topic with the questions. She shyly looked down at her hands, which were folded in her lap.
"S-sorry," stammered Miyuki. "I'm not really giving you the best answers to your questions, huh?"
"No, I'm afraid not," answered the creature with a shake of his head.
Miyuki felt really small in front of the creature right now. She was never really good at giving people descriptions or directions. She had always been too shy to speak to strangers and would always feel like a fool afterwards after rambling in front of them. The creature saw the girl's discomfort and decided to try something else that might help ease the tension.
"How about we leave the questions for a minute and just start by introducing ourselves?" suggested the creature.
Miyuki slowly looked up at the feline before nodding her head at him, while a small smile appeared on her face.
"Alright, I will begin first," started the creature. "My name is Hunter. I am one of the many cheetah warriors of the village that resides within the Valley of Avalar."
"My name is Miyuki. I'm the daughter of Tonnraq and Senna. I'm also the twin sister of Korra although we don't really look the same."
The creature, now known as Hunter, smiled at Miyuki. "I'll take your word for it, young one."
Miyuki blushed again as she turned her eyes down to her lap again. There she goes again, making a total fool of herself in front of a stranger that she just met. Hunter could tell that this young girl, Miyuki, was really shy and knew that it will take some time for her to get use to him.
"Alright, now how about we try with the questions again?" suggested Hunter.
"O-okay," said Miyuki with a slow nod.
"Now young one, how exactly did you appear in the Valley of Avalar?" asked Hunter.
Miyuki slowly took in calming breath before she began to answer Hunter's question. "Well…I'm not sure how to explain it, but as I said before I was on a boat when this weird man suddenly came towards me. He started to harass me into trying to hang out with him until I pushed him away from me, but the man continued to come after me. I soon got really mad and scared when I found myself pressed up against the railing of the boat. Then, before I knew it I somehow summoned fire from my right hand. But I soon found myself falling off the boat after I summoned the fire and was dropping towards the waters of the ocean. I closed my eyes and held my arms up in front of my face, because I thought that it would be the end for me. But after what felt like hours to me I opened my eyes again and found myself in this strange world full of light. I was confused on where I was at first until I suddenly heard a voice speaking to me."
"A voice?" echoed Hunter curiously.
"Yeah," replied Miyuki with a nod of her head. "The voice was male and he called himself the Chronicler."
Hunter's eyes widened in surprise. "Did you just say 'The Chronicler'?"
Miyuki nodded her head slowly as she stared at Hunter in confusion. "Do you know him?"
"Everyone within this realm has heard tales of The Chronicler," answered Hunter with a light frown. "He is an ancient dragon that records the happenings that takes place within the realms. The Chronicler is also known to predict the coming of great evil as well, but very few have ever encountered The Chronicler face to face."
"Well, I wouldn't say face to face," said Miyuki softly. "I would probably say that The Chronicler only spoke to me in a disembodied voice."
"But still, it is interesting that you have encountered The Chronicle," said Hunter as he rubbed his chin in thought. "In any case, what did he speak to you about?"
Miyuki frown as she tried to remember the conversation she had with The Chronicler. "Well...he said that there was a rumor going around about a new evil emerging within this world of yours."
"Yes, there have been rumors that some kind of evil has appeared within the realms," spoke Hunter with a nod of his head as he let his eyes drift downwards. "But nobody knows who or what this new evil is."
Miyuki let her eyes drop down towards her lap again with a sad frown forming on her face. The two were quiet with each other for a time as they became lost in their thoughts. Hunter was brought out of his thinking when his eyes suddenly caught sight of Miyuki's birthmark.
"That mark," started Hunter.
Miyuki quickly lifted her head up to look at the cheetah. "What mark?"
"That marking on your right hand," said Hunter as he stared down at Miyuki's hand. "Where did you get it?"
"This?" said Miyuki as she raised her right hand up to look at the dragon marking. "I've had this birth mark ever since I was born."
"That's the mark of the Dragon Warrior," spoke Hunter.
"Dragon Warrior?" echoed Miyuki in confusion.
"Yes," answered Hunter. "A long time ago there had been a legend of a strange being appearing in this realm during the time when Malefor decided to wage war on his dragon kind. The being was said to have the exact same marking that is imprinted on your right hand."
Miyuki's eyes widened in surprise as she glance at Hunter for a second before turning her gaze onto the marking imprinted on her right hand as she stared at it in amazement. Miyuki looked back at Hunter again and was about to say something when the door to the room suddenly opened again. Miyuki quickly dropped her hand back down into her lap again, while hiding it underneath the covers of the bed sheets before turning her gaze towards the door.
Standing in the doorway was another cheetah like Hunter, but instead of having yellow fur and spots, this cheetah had orange fur and black stripes. The cheetah was wearing a brown sleeveless tunic that was darker than Hunter's and a brighter red cape with a pin that had a paw print on the front instead of a triple yin-yang. The cheetah had dark brown armguards with embroidery designs on them and leg guards. Miyuki could tell that this cheetah was strong by the way he held his stance and flinched when his grey eyes glared at her. Miyuki now felt really small as she dropped her gaze down towards the floor, while feeling the intense gaze of the new cheetah staring at her. The new cheetah walked into the room before he came to stand beside the bed. The new cheetah then spoke in a gruff voice as he turned his attention onto Hunter.
"Have you gotten any information out of her?" growled the cheetah.
"Yes," answered Hunter as he stood up from the chair that he had been sitting in. "The girl here is named Miyuki and she is from a tribe that calls themselves 'The Southern Water Tribe'."
"The Water Tribe?" repeated the orange Cheetah. "I've never heard of that clan before."
"They seem to be an isolated clan that lives in far artic regions of the south," said Hunter.
"I see," spoke the orange cheetah. "But that still doesn't explain how she had appeared here within the Valley of Avalar."
Miyuki slowly gathered up her courage before she started to speak. "Um…I don't mean to sound rude sir, but who are you?"
"I am Chief Prowlus," answered the orange cheetah. "I'm the leader of this village and its best that you remember it stranger."
"Y-yes sir," stuttered Miyuki as she felt her courage fade when her eyes made contact with Chief Prowlus's intense glare.
Hunter saw just how scared Miyuki was of Chief Prowlus, and decided to intervene before things got out of hand.
"Chief Prowlus, there is no need to be harsh," said Hunter calmly. "After all, this girl had been captured by the remaining members of Malefor's dark forces, and had barely escaped with her life when the gremlins attacked her."
Miyuki blinked in surprise as she stared up at Hunter in confusion. Why was this cheetah lying to his chief when he already knew the truth about her?
"Maybe so, but it still doesn't mean that she is welcomed here within our village." spoke Chief Prowlus gruffly. "I've only agreed to let this girl stay with us until she regained consciousness, which she has, and that after she did this girl must leave our village before she brings trouble to us."
Miyuki felt a small stab of pain when Chief Prowlus spoke those words before biting her lip in distress.
'Even here I'm nothing but a useless little nobody,' thought Miyuki to herself.
"I know Chief Prowlus, I remember," said Hunter calmly. "That's why I'm thinking of taking young Miyuki here to Dragon City. Hopefully she will be safe there under the protection of the Dragon Guardians."
"The Dragon City?" echoed Chief Prowlus in surprise. "I highly doubt that the dragons would want something that resembles an ape to them to enter their city. You know that they have a strong disliking for them."
"Um…why do the dragons dislike these...ape creatures you keep talking about?" spoke Miyuki as she became interested in the conversation.
Chief Prowlus turned to look at Miyuki with a frown. "You and your tribe must have really been cut off from the world if you haven't heard of what had happened to Avalar, and the other realms that were under Malefor's reign."
Miyuki shrunk at Chief Prowlus's stare before turning to look at Hunter for an explanation to which the first cheetah instantly replied.
"A long time ago, many apes from different realms had decided to fight alongside Malefor's forces in their quest for power and to rid the realms of dragons forever. Malefor had taught the apes how to harness the power of the spirit gems to give them strength to fight against the dragons."
"Spirit gems?" asked Miyuki in confusion.
"They are something that you don't need to concern yourself about," growled Chief Prowlus. "All you need to know is that the dragons will take one look at you and go into a fit of rage."
"Not as long as I'm with her," stepped in Hunter as he gave his leader a glare. "I'll escort Miyuki to Dragon City along with one of the other Cheetah Warriors."
Chief Prowlus let out a growl before slowly calming down. "Very well, if you insist in taking this girl to Dragon City then I won't stop you. I will send Hail with you on your journey. He might be the youngest warrior in our tribe, but he is the most experience and high level fighter among the other young cheetahs within the clan."
Hunter only nodded his head before Chief Prowlus turned and left the room while closing the door behind him. Miyuki let out a sigh as she started to relax again.
"He's scary," muttered Miyuki as she looked up at Hunter.
"Yes, sometimes he is scary," said Hunter in agreement as he sat back down in his seat. "That's just his way of being overprotective of our village."
"But I don't understand why you…lied to him," voiced Miyuki quietly in a whisper.
"I'm guessing you're not one for lying are you?" whispered Hunter as he understood why Miyuki was keeping her voice low. "If I told Chief Prowlus the truth then he would probably not believe me or think of you as an unholy being that might have been sent by Malefor's forces to destroy us all."
"I would never do that," voiced Miyuki as she tried to defend herself. "I wasn't born a bender and I don't know the first thing about how to fight or defend myself."
"Then you're going to need to learn about how to defend yourself as we head out on our journey to the Dragon City." Hunter whispered as he placed a paw/hand on Miyuki's shoulder. "There are many dangers out there so you need to learn how hold your own within a battle, because I might not always be able to protect you."
Miyuki stared at Hunter in surprise before she asked the cheetah out of confusion. "Why do you want to help me so much? I'm still a stranger to these parts and you barely know me."
"And you barely know me," added Hunter with a smile. "But I know one thing in this world, and that is to stand together and look out for one another when it comes to fighting Malefor's remaining forces. Also you could be the only hope, next to Spyro, in saving us from the new evil that is arising within the realms."
"But what exactly does a Dragon Warrior do?" asked Miyuki.
"I'll explain to you more about who and what a Dragon Warrior is while we travel," said Hunter. "Now pack up your things, I'll be back in just a bit with something that might help in hiding your appearance from the citizens within Dragon City. Your winter jacket is already packed in your shoulder bag, along with your mittens and your boots are just sitting on the floor beside the bed."
Miyuki slowly nodded her head to what Hunter had said, while the cheetah gave her a comforting pat on the shoulder before he stood up and walked out of the room while closing the door behind him. Miyuki sat in her bed for a minute as she let what had happened to her sink in before letting out a sigh.
"I've really got a lot to learn about this new place." Miyuki muttered as she pushed the blankets off of her and placed her sock covered feet down on the wooden floor.
Miyuki bent down to grab her boots and began to slip them on her feet. Once that was done, Miyuki turned her head to the left to see her shoulder bag hanging over the bedpost at the end of the bed. She stood up from the bed and went over to the bedpost to grab her shoulder bag, before she suddenly heard the door to her temporary room open again. Miyuki quickly turned around with a start and saw another cheetah standing in front of her.
Unlike Hunter or Chief Prowlus this new cheetah had pure white fur with the small black spots dotting all over his body. The cheetah was wearing the same sleeveless tunic like Hunter and Chief Prowlus, but his tunic was a dark blue and his cloak was black with silver edgings. Attached to the cloak was a golden pin with the same paw print symbol like Chief Prowlus's pin. This cheetah wasn't as tall as Hunter or Prowlus, but he was still a few inches taller than Miyuki.
Miyuki looked at the cheetah in surprise as her blue eyes locked on to the new cheetah's golden amber eyes, but she quickly turned her gaze downwards when she realized that she was staring.
"S-sorry," muttered Miyuki in apology.
She felt her face start to blush a light pink before she grabbed her shoulder bag. She put it on the same way that she had carried it before when she had left her home.
"So you're the creature that everyone is talking about within the village," spoke the new cheetah in a smooth voice. "Man I guess what the cheetahs of the village are saying about you is true, you are strange looking."
"T-that's because I-I'm not from these parts." Miyuki stammered as she quickly raised her head up to look at the white cheetah in front of her.
"Could have fooled me," muttered the cheetah as he crossed his arms over his chest. "Although I was expecting…well more to what I've been hearing about you."
"L-like what?" questioned Miyuki curiously.
"I was expecting you to be one of those ugly ape creatures that are sometimes seen roaming about our valley," replied the cheetah with a smirk. "But now that I got a good look at you. I can tell that you are just a pathetic little weakling that Hunter just happened to save out on his scouting mission."
Miyuki felt her left eyebrow twitch after she heard what this cheetah said to her. "I-I'm not weak!"
"Oh really, then why was Hunter carrying you into our village while you were unconscious?" said the cheetah as he continued with his insults.
Miyuki was about to answer when Hunter suddenly appeared behind the new cheetah with a displeasing frown on his face, while holding a light blue folded up cloak in his hands. Miyuki also noticed a bow and a quiver full of arrows hanging over Hunter's shoulders.
"That's enough Hail," said Hunter calmly.
The white cheetah, now known as Hail, jumped in surprise before he quickly turned around to face Hunter with a nervous smile on his muzzle.
"H-Hunter, I didn't know that you would be back so soon," spoke Hail as his ears dropped down on his head.
"Finding a cloak for our guest here wasn't really that hard to look for," said Hunter flatly. "Now I suggest that you head back home and pack your things. We are going to be escorting Miyuki, the girl that's behind you, to Dragon City and while we are traveling. I do not want you to pester her with your rudeness, understand?"
"Y-yes sir," stammered Hail with a nod.
"Good," growled Hunter before he stepped aside to let Hail run passed him as the young cheetah raced towards his hut.
"That boy," sighed Hunter with a shake of his head before he turned to look at Miyuki. "I'm sorry about that young cheetah's rudeness. Sometimes, Hail lets his words get the better of him."
"That's alright," said Miyuki with a small smile as Hunter walked up to her. "He didn't do too much harm."
"Good," said Hunter with a smile before he handed Miyuki the cloak. "Here, this is the only one I could find that would fit you."
"Thank you," said Miyuki as she took the cloak from Hunter.
Miyuki unfolded the cloak as she got a good look at the material that she would be wearing on her journey through this unknown world. The light blue cloak had white edgings and a hood to which she could hide her face from strangers that she might meet on the road. Miyuki smile for the color reminded her of her tribe's traditional coloring. She swung the garment over her shoulders, while making sure that it wasn't inside out. The cloak came down to the back of Miyuki's lower legs where it wouldn't cause a hindrance when she had to out run something that wanted to attack her.
"This cloak is perfect." Miyuki said with a smile.
She finished clipping on the pin that would hold the cloak together around her shoulders. The pin that Hunter had given to Miyuki had the same triple yin-yang symbol imprinted on its surface.
"That's good," spoke Hunter with smile.
"So…that was Hail right, the one who will be coming with us to Dragon City?" asked Miyuki as she looked up at Hunter out of curiosity.
"Yes," answered Hunter with a solemn nod of his head. "And despite his age, Hail is known to be one of the best fighters within the village as well as a good swordsman. He has trained under Chief Prowlus for many years, but he tends to let his pride get the better of him when it comes to fighting enemies."
"Is he really that strong?" asked Miyuki as she and Hunter began to make their way out the door.
"Somewhat," replied Hunter as he let Miyuki walk alongside him.
When the two walked out the door the sight that met Miyuki's eyes made the girl stare in amazement. The village was a simple place where it was protected by giant wooden walls that tower over the cheetahs and their huts. Many cheetahs were roaming around the grounds of the village and all of them were a differed color. Some were talking with each other while others, who are young children, were playing with each other. Whether they were chasing one another around or wrestling.
Seeing the village full of life reminded Miyuki of her old home. She then began to feel a little homesick when she thought of her family and her sister.
'I wonder if they're upset about me leaving them without saying goodbye?' thought Miyuki as she and Hunter began to walk through the village.
As the two walked Miyuki began to feel the stares of the cheetah citizens as they all stopped what they were doing to look upon her in fear and curiosity. Miyuki began to feel a little uneasy by the looks that the villagers were giving her. She quickly move a little closer to Hunter while keeping her eyes cast to the ground.
"Just try to ignore them." Hunter whispered as he looked down at Miyuki.
Miyuki only nodded at Hunter before she looked up to see that they were heading towards the entrance of the village gate. The gate led out towards the lush green valley that Miyuki had found herself in when she first appeared in this world. The sight of the valley still amazed Miyuki to no end as a light breeze blew across the grass of the land.
"Your valley is very beautiful." Miyuki complimented as she looked up at Hunter with a smile when they stopped to stand near the entrance of the village gate.
Hunter only smiled at her before turning to look behind him when he heard the sound of feet running towards them. Miyuki also turned to see Hail running towards them with a long sword strapped to the right side of his waist and a hip pouch that hung by his left hip. Hail stopped to stand in front of Hunter and Miyuki with a smirk appearing on his face.
"Well I'm here, let's go!" exclaimed Hail in a loud voice.
"Alright then let's get moving." Hunter said as he began to take the lead with Hail and Miyuki following right behind him.
"So, how far is the Dragon City?" asked Miyuki curiously.
"About four day's travel if we take the long way," answered Hunter. "That will give us plenty of time for me to help train you in combat if we ever meet up with gremlins or other beings that want to harm us."
"Train her?" questioned Hail as a smirk played out on his muzzle. "Are you telling me that this weakling here doesn't know how to defend herself?"
Miyuki let out a groan as she gave Hail a glare when the cheetah called her a weakling.
"That's enough Hail," said Hunter as he looked over his shoulder to glare at the younger cheetah. "Besides you should know better than to judge others by their appearance."
Hail let out a huff before he turned to look away with a pout. Hunter let out a sigh before he looked over at Miyuki and saw her staring at the ground with a sad expression upon her face. The reminder of her being nothing but a weak none-bender within her family made Miyuki feel small and insignificant. She always felt like she was standing in her sister's shadow all the time. That thought made Miyuki frown as a dull pain of regret stabbed at her heart.
'These feelings are the reason why I left my home in the first place.' Miyuki reminded herself firmly within her head. 'I can't let them get the better of me.'
Hunter let out a sigh before he decided to speak to his two traveling companions.
"We will be taking a break once in a while so that I can train you in hand-to-hand combat Miyuki, but the powers that you possess are ones that I can't help you with. You'll have to figure out how to control them on your own until we get to Dragon City. Hopefully when we get there, the guardians will help you."
"Um…who exactly are the guardians?" asked Miyuki curiously.
"They are a trio of dragons who are each a master of an element," answered Hunter. "But there used to be four of them."
At the tone of Hunter's voice, Miyuki quickly picked up a hint of sadness from the older cheetah.
"Did you use to know the fourth guardian?" asked Miyuki in a gentle voice.
"Yes," replied Hunter with a nod. "The elder dragon that I use to know was once a guardian who was the master of fire. He was the first one to have taught Spyro on what it was meant to be a dragon."
"What was the name of the Fire Guardian?"
Hail let out and exasperated sigh before he answered Miyuki's question in annoyance. "If you must know, the name of the dragon that Hunter once knew was Ignitus."
"Ignitus," echoed Miyuki as she tested out the name. "That sounds like a strong name for a dragon of fire."
"Ignitus wasn't just strong young Miyuki," spoke Hunter with a smile. "He was also the wisest and knows when to keep calm within a battle against an enemy."
"Wow, he sounds like the type of guy you really want to get to know," said Miyuki with a smile.
Hunter let out a chuckle at what Miyuki said. "Yes, Ignitus was the type of dragon that was like a father to Spyro."
"So what happened to him?" asked Miyuki.
Hunter sadly frowned as he turned his head away from Miyuki. "Ignitus sacrificed himself when he trying to help Spyro and Cynder through a belt of fire that was created by the Destroyer."
"The Destroyer?" echoed Miyuki.
"You don't know what a Destroyer is?" questioned Hail as he looked at Miyuki with a raised eye-brow. "Man, where have you been hiding all these years?"
"Um…w-well I…" stammered Miyuki as she tried to make up a good excuse.
"The truth is Hail, Miyuki isn't from our realm," spoke Hunter.
"What do you mean by that?" questioned Hail as he turned his eyes on the older cheetah in front of him.
"W-what Hunter means is that I'm from a different world," answered Miyuki in a small voice.
"A different world?" echoed Hail in confusion before realization came over his face. "Are you saying that you come from a completely different universe!?"
Miyuki answered by slowly nodded her head 'Yes' to Hail's question. Hail quickly stopped in his tracks before he turned to look at Miyuki, thus causing her stopped to face Hail. Hunter stopping as well to see how the young cheetah would react to the news.
"Why didn't you and Hunter tell me about this in the first place?!" exclaimed Hail as he placed his hands on his waist to glare at Miyuki.
"W-well…we weren't sure how you would react to it," said Miyuki nervously. "After all, Hunter said that if Chief Prowlus found out that I was from a different world then he would have thought that I was working in Malefor's forces."
"Ha!" scoffed Hail as he squared his shoulders. "You, working with Malefor's forces? Don't make me laugh. You're nothing but a weak little twig that Hunter brought into our village out of pity. You couldn't possible do anything that would threaten the cheetah tribe."
Miyuki's left eyebrow twitched as anger began to bubble up inside of her. She was starting to dislike this cheetah every minute. Who does this guy think he is anyways?
"Shut up!" shouted Miyuki as she stomped her right foot down on the ground.
What happened next really surprised the group. When Miyuki stomped her foot down on the ground a four foot tall pillar of earth suddenly sprung up from the ground underneath Hail's feet, which suddenly sent the young cheetah flying ten feet into the air. Hunter and Miyuki stared up in surprise as they watched Hail fly up into the air for a second before gravity took over, and the young cheetah came falling back down to the ground. Luckily, Hail landed on his feet but he had an astonished look on his face as he stared at the duo in complete surprise.
"Now that was new." Hunter stated as he looked at Miyuki, who looked back at him as she gave the older cheetah a sheepish look.
"Okay, I take it back! You're dangerous!" exclaimed Hail as he pointed a finger Miyuki.
"I-I'm sorry I didn't know that would happen!" exclaimed Miyuki as she looked back at Hail, while lifting her hands up in defense.
Hunter went into thought for a moment before he spoke. "If I remember correctly legend states that the Dragon Warrior is able to manipulate any type of element that the dragons of this world possess. But it can only be achieved through a Spirit Gem that is given to them by a dragon that sees their potential and the birth mark, which shall appear on either their hand or shoulder after they're born."
"Dragon Warrior?" asked Hail as he turned his attention on Hunter. "What the heck is a Dragon Warrior?"
"And what exactly is a Spirit Gem?" questioned Miyuki as she turned her attention on Hunter as well.
"To answer your question Hail, a Dragon Warrior is a being who is summoned to this realm whenever it is in danger," said Hunter as he began to explain to Hail what the Dragon Warrior was. "The Dragon Warrior is also said to have a strong connection with dragons, but the Dragon Warrior can bond with only one dragon that becomes their partner for life."
"Whoa, really?" asked Miyuki in amazement.
"Yes," replied Hunter with a nod. "Now, to answer your question young Miyuki, Spirit Gems are crystals that grow around these parts. They are said to be a gift from the ancestors from generations past and the proof of their existence is the necklace that is hanging around your neck."
"You mean my crystal pendent?" said Miyuki as she placed her right hand on the pendent that hung around her neck.
Hunter answered by nodding his head at Miyuki's question in his way of saying 'Yes'.
"But…how can that be?" voiced Miyuki in confusion. "You said that only a dragon can give a Dragon Warrior a Spirit Gem. This pendent was given to my by an old man on my seventh birthday when my dad and I were walking around the market of the Southern Water tribe village."
"Well is could be that a dragon traveled to your world and took on the form of a human being." Hunter suggested as he rubbed his chin in thought.
Miyuki looked down at the ground with a thoughtful look on her face. Could a dragon from this world had come to her homeland and given her the Spirit Gem that she now wore around her neck? If they did then how did they know her name?
"Ha!" scoffed Hail as he crossed his arms over his chest. "As if that twig of a girl is really the Dragon Warrior. And even if she is then why would any dragon want to be around someone who looks like their enemy?"
Miyuki bit her bottom lip when she heard what Hail had said in his last sentence. He was right, why would any dragon come around her when she resembles the very enemy that they hated so much? Hunter gently placed his left hand on top of Miyuki's shoulder, which caused her to looked up at him in surprise.
"Don't pay any attention to Hail young one," said Hunter with a gentle smile. "Right now we need to focus on getting you to Dragon City."
Miyuki nodded her head at the older cheetah before she began to follow him again. Hail blinked in surprise as he watched the two continuing to walk down the road that would lead them to Dragon City.
"Hey!" exclaimed Hail as he quickly ran to catch up with the two. "Wait for me!"
Miyuki and Hunter only laughed at Hail as they continued down the road towards their destination.
Ten Hours Later
The trio had walked all day while taking a few breaks to rest along the way. With those brakes, Hunter had taught Miyuki a few hand-to-hand combat moves to help defend her throughout their journey. The sun was now setting over the horizon as the group decided to make camp in a small clearing for the night. Miyuki was unrolling her sleeping bag that she had gotten out of her shoulder bag, while Hunter and Hail had went off to gather some wood from within the forest.
"There we go," said Miyuki with a smile as she laid her sleeping bag down on a soft bed of moss. "Now I better set up that fire pit before Hunter and Hail come back."
With that Miyuki began to make the fire pit with a few stones that she found in the forest on a patch of dry dirt. Miyuki continued her work, while humming a lullaby that she mother had sung to her and her sister when they were little kids. The memory of her childhood quickly made Miyuki stop what she was doing as she began to feel her heart ache at the thought of her home and her family.
'I wonder if they're okay?' thought Miyuki as a small frown appeared on her face.
"Miyuki, we're back!" called out Hunter as he and Hail entered the clearing.
The two cheetahs were carrying a pile of wood in each of their arms. Hail placed his pile down between the roots of a large tree with Hunter placing his alongside the young cheetah's pile.
"Welcome back you two," greeted Miyuki with a smile. S
he stood up from where she was and walked over to her two traveling companions.
"Sorry it took so long for us to gather up the wood for the fire." Hunter apologised as he picked up a few twigs from the wood pile.
"That's okay," replied Miyuki as she bent down and began to gather up some of the wood from the pile. "I've already set up the fire pit so you can just place the sticks in those circle of stones."
"Thank you Miyuki," said Hunter with a smile.
He walked over to the fire pit and began to place the sticks inside the circle of stones with dried grass underneath them.
"You must have worked hard on perfecting that circle," spoke Hail in a sarcastic voice as he placed his paw/hands behind his head.
Miyuki turned her head to glare up at Hail before sticking her tongue out at the cheetah in a childish manner.
"Miyuki," called Hunter as the young teenager turned to older cheetah when he spoke her name. "I want you to come here for a moment."
"O-okay," said Miyuki nervously.
She stood up from the ground and walked over to the fire pit with Hunter kneeling next to it. Miyuki sat herself down while placing her wood pile down beside her before she looked up at the older cheetah in befuddlement.
"Miyuki, I want you to try and light the sticks here," said Hunter as he told Miyuki on what he wanted her to do. "Think of this as the first step within your training on trying to control you powers."
Miyuki blinked in surprise before she looked down at the sticks that were sitting within the fire pit in front of her. A determined look came over Miyuki's face. She slowly stretched her left arm out in front of, while she held her hand three meters over the sticks. Miyuki held her gaze on the pile of sticks in front of her as she tried to summon a small spark of fire from the palm of her hand. After about ten minutes, Miyuki let out a sigh and let her hand down into her lap with a depressed look upon her face.
"Well…that was interesting," muttered Hail in a bored voice.
"Sorry," voiced Miyuki sadly as she looked down at the ground. "I'm just not able to do it. Maybe it was just a fluke that I was able to summon fire back on that boat."
"Miyuki," said Hunter as he placed his paw/hand on her shoulder. "Sometimes it takes patients to control your powers. You'll be able to summon fire and the other elements in time."
Miyuki looked at Hunter in surprise before a small smile appeared on her face. Hunter soon started up the fire for them as they all sat around and started to eat the dried food rations, which they had brought with them along with a few fruits. It was a pretty quiet meal for the group as they didn't speak a word to each other. Once they were done, the group decided to head for bed so that they could have an early start tomorrow. Miyuki crawled into her sleeping bag, while resting her head on her shoulder bag, which she used as a pillow.
"Goodnight you two," said Hunter as he looked over at his two young traveling companions. "I'll take first watch for tonight. I'll wake one of you up in three hours."
"Okay," said Miyuki with a nod.
"Goodnight Hunter," spoke Hail as he leaned himself up against the trunk of a giant tree.
Miyuki lay on her back as she stared up at the star filled sky that was almost hidden by the canopy of trees that hung above her. Miyuki gazed intently up at the darkened sky above her, while she let her thoughts wander back to her home world and her family. Were they mad that she had left them without saying goodbye? A lone tear fell out of the corner of Miyuki's right eye before she turned over onto her left side. She closed her eyes tightly as she tried to get to sleep. Tears started to fall freely from her eyes as quiet sobs began to emerge from Miyuki's throat.
'I'm sorry…mom, dad, Korra,' thought Miyuki sadly within her head.
Miyuki's sobs slowly started to quiet down as sleep started to take over before her world was finally consumed by darkness.
Dream Scene
Miyuki blinked in surprise when she found herself standing in a large room. The room was filled with millions books, which were all stacked neatly on stone shelves that stretched all the way up to the roof of the room. Standing in the middle of the room was a giant hourglass. Inside of the hourglass was white sand that slowly flowed down to the bottom. Miyuki looked around in wonder, while slowly turning in a small circle within the middle of the dark blue room.
"Whoa…I've never seen so many books in all of my life," voiced Miyuki as she stared up at the bookcases that toward over her. "I wonder what kind of information they have in them?"
"These books help me see into the past, while taking in glimpses of the future." a familiar voice answered.
Miyuki blinked in surprise when she heard the voice. It was the very same voice she had encountered a long time ago when she a young girl and before she came to Avalar. Miyuki quickly turned around to see something that she had not expected to see before in all her life. Standing in front of her was a giant creature that stood on four legs. It had long neck, which was arched slightly as it looked down at Miyuki with its gentle grey blue eyes, while its long tail swished lazily behind it. Miyuki noticed that the creature had bat like wings that were tattered in a few places, but she knew that despite their condition the creature was able to fly with them.
The creature had pale blue scales and light grey horns that sat straight back behind its head. Around the creature's neck was a red and gold collar. Attached to the collar was a blue cape, which flowed down the creature's back all the way to its flanks. Encircling the creatures tail were two golden bands. Lastly, a pouch that almost looked like a saddle bag that was attached to the creatures flank. Within the saddle bag were three scrolls that had rough, torn edges.
Miyuki stared up at the creature in shocked surprise before she slowly started to speak. "Um…a-are you the Chronicler?"
"Yes, little one. I am he," replied the creature with a nod of his head. "And I am also known as a dragon in this world that you are traveling through right now."
"That settles that question," said Miyuki before blinking in surprise. "Wait a sec, how did you know that I was going to ask you that question?"
The dragon, now known as the Chronicler, gave out a light chuckle. "Let's just say that the question you were going to ask me was written all over your face little one."
Miyuki blushed before looking down at the floor in embarrassment. The dragon let out another chuckle before he spoke again.
"Even though you have grown, you're still the shy little girl that I met all those years back," said the dragon.
Miyuki quickly looked up at the dragon in surprise when she heard what the dragon had said to her.
"Wait a minute, are you saying that we met before?" asked Miyuki as she stared intently at the dragon.
"Yes we have…Miyuki," replied the Chronicler with a nod of his head. "I have also been watching you grow and had seen what your life had been like, but I won't get into that detail about it. Right now I have brought you here for another reason."
"Another reason?" echoed Miyuki out of confusion.
The Chronicler nodded his head once again. "I have brought you here so that you may understand a little more about you destiny, Miyuki."
