The Goodbye to the House: Part 2

They are still at their old house in this chapter, for the whole chapter.

Deacon woke up in the middle of the night and winced at how uncomfortable he actually was on the floor. He looked down at a sleeping Rayna who was basically laying on top of him, no wonder she hadn't woken up. He very slowly moved from underneath her and she made a frustrated sound before moving her hand to search for him. He chuckled when she turned on her other side and did the same thing with her hand. A frown appeared on her face and he wondered how all this happened while she was still sleeping. He turned around and put his boxers on and then he got on his knees and picked Rayna up softly with the blanket still around her. She sighed and snuggled into him. He kissed the top of her head and carried her to their old bedroom. He slowly laid her down on the bed and she stretched out making herself comfortable in the middle of the bed. Deacon smiled, shook his head, and joined her on the bed. He lifted her arm up and draped it across his chest and she gravitated towards the heat. He kissed her forehead and fell asleep again.

Rayna woke up first and stretched turning around to look at Deacon. She sighed every time she woke up with him next to her, glad that he was there and not far away. He had no blankets on so she draped the ones that were wrapped around her on him. She heard him sigh at the warmth and relax a little more. She really wanted to wake him up with her kisses but decided against it. Instead, she got up and realized she was still naked. She walked to the living room and slipped on her panties and Deacon's old button down she was wearing the night before. She buttoned it and walked to the kitchen.

She felt like this was her house all over again and she didn't know if she felt ready to break it down. She really wanted a new start and she and Deacon still had to figure some stuff out. Rebuilding the house would give them time for that. She looked around the kitchen again and realized that this was one of the last times she would see it the way it was. Her 'dream house' would be broken down in a matter of days. Maybe taking the girls here would make it easier, she would bring them here today. She walked to the fridge and saw that Deacon had bought eggs so she went to the cabinet where she had left the pans so long ago and they were still there. "I guess the owner and his family never really lived here. Maybe they rented." She thought to herself. She turned on the coffee machine and made eggs. When they were ready she took a tray and placed two plates and two coffee mugs on it. She walked into the bedroom and saw that Deacon hadn't moved. She left the tray on her bedside table so she could wake him up.

She moved onto the bed and kissed his cheek moving her kisses closer to his ear. She rested her hand on his cheek and whispered, "wake up. I made breakfast." Deacon felt her kisses and smelled coffee and eggs in the air. He loved to be woken up by her and with food! Even better! Deacon stirred and his eyes fluttered open slowly. She loved how everything he did in the morning was slow and she loved to witness the first moments when he woke up, it was a turn on for sure, especially his sleep filled voice. She smiled and leaned down to kiss him and whispered, "good morning," against his lips. He replied with the sleepy filled voice she loved, "mmm, morning darlin'." She smiled and sat up resting her back against the headboard, "I hope you're hungry. I made food." She picked up the tray and placed it on her legs. Deacon was still laying down and his eyes were eye level with her legs which were practically naked, since his shirt only went to her upper thighs. He ran his fingers from her knee up to the bottom of the shirt and then looked up at her, desire in his eyes, "I am hungry." Rayna grinned. A good chill ran down Rayna's spine and she moved her hand to grab his and she entwined her fingers with his. "Later! I made food! We are eating first." Deacon sat up next to her, "fine."

They each reached for their mugs and plates. "This is really good babe." Rayna smiled and kissed his cheek as a thank you. Deacon smiled then, remembering their agreement from when they had decided to take it slow. The one in which the looser would buy the winner new cowboy or girl boots. Rayna hadn't brought it up because she had lost. "If I recall correctly, I won the agreement!" Rayna smiled, she was hoping that he would have forgotten. She shook her head, "no you didn't!" He moved his lips to her ear, "you were the one that told me to screw the agreement." He kissed below her ear. Rayna's eyes closed, "you didn't stop me." Deacon kissed her neck, "you wouldn't have wanted me to." His low voice was turning Rayna on and now that he was moving his kisses to the front of her neck she had no hopes of fighting it. She took his plate away and placed both their plates on the nightstand. They were both still sitting up and Deacon went back to kissing her neck. "Do you want me to stop now?" Rayna shook her head, "no." Her voice had gotten a little deeper too. He smiled and said, "well, I'm going to have to." Rayna moved one of her hands to his hair and whispered, "no you don't." She scooted down so that she could kiss him and then she moved so that she was on top. She leaned down to kiss him and tangled her hands in his hair. He ran his finger tips on her legs making her shiver. She moved down a little and brushed against him. She kissed her way down to his boxers and when she got to the waistband she stopped and got up. Deacon groaned, "where are you going?" Rayna unbuttoned the first button on the shirt she was wearing and turned her back to him as she walked to the bathroom. Deacon watched her walk towards the bathroom. When she got to the door she turned her head back, "you comin'?" Deacon got up and joined her in the bathroom.

She turned the water on and they undressed getting in together. They had updated the shower when they first got the house and made it more spacious and not a tub. Deacon put his hands on her cheeks and kissed her with the water streaming on their face. He picked her up and rested her back against the wall with the water on his back. He moved his kisses to her neck and Rayna's heart beat sped up in anticipation. He kissed over her breasts and then went upward again till he got to her lips. She pulled him closer and kissed him more urgently and he slowly eased into her. She felt her head fall back slowly and rested it against the wall. He watched her face relax with pleasure and her mouth open a little and he started moving. She moved her hands to his hair and pulled him closer so their chests were touching. He kept moving and all that was heard were moans or groans and then their names being called out. They kissed for a little afterwards until he eased out of her and set her down. She kissed his lips and whispered, "thank you. I get worked up when you talk in you sleepy voice." he chuckled, "I guess nothing changes." She shook her head and smiled at him. Deacon had even brought soap. So they washed themselves and got out and put the clothes they had on last night.

Rayna said she wanted to bring the girls there and Deacon agreed. So Rayna went to get the girls from Teddy's and got groceries to make lunch. "So girls, I'm taking you to the house again, the one Deacon and I had." Both girls smiled and Daphne asked, "is Deacon there?" Rayna asked, "do you girls want him to be?" Daphne smiled, "yeah! I love him." Rayna smiled in the rearview mirror and then looked over at Maddie on the passenger's side, "what about you sweetheart?" Maddie smiled over at her mom, "I'm wrapping my head around everything." Rayna looked over and Maddie and nodded and then payed attention to the road again. Maddie asked, "is he going to be a constant in our lives? Is he moving in or anything like that?" Rayna inhaled, "um, no he isn't moving in, but yes, I think he might become a constant in our lives." Daphne kept grinning and Maddie nodded and looked out the window and then said, "but you will be moving in together eventually right?" Rayna said, "yeah we think so. We..um... we want to rebuild the house that we had years ago." Maddie asked, "like break it down?" Rayna nodded, "yeah and it would take a while to rebuild it so we would have time to grow stronger as a family, slowly." Daphne was really happy, "so I'll get to decorate my room?" Rayna smiled, "yes you will!" Daphne just kept grinning and Maddie said, "I'm glad you're taking your time with this." Rayna smiled over at her eldest daughter, "thank you babe." Maddie smiled and Rayna realized that under the cold front her daughter was putting up she was actually happy that her parents were together, deep down under.

They pulled into the driveway and Rayna got the groceries. The girls walked up and opened the door since it was unlocked. "There y'all are," Deacon said as he saw the girls walk in and Rayna carrying groceries. Daphne ran up to him to give him a hug and Maddie hugged him too. Rayna watched them as she set the groceries down and felt her heart swell with love. This was starting to feel so right! They all joined her in the kitchen and Deacon kissed Rayna quickly. They hadn't shown any form of affection near the girls yet and when Rayna looked at the girls they didn't seem bothered by it.

Daphne got up, "I'm going to look around! Maddie come with me!" Both girls got up and walked to the living room and looked around. Deacon asked, "do you want to go with them? Maybe tell them that we had made a nursery?" Rayna smiled a sad smile remembering that room that her and Deacon had ignored the night before, "yeah." Deacon rubbed her back, "I'll come with you." They both followed the girls around the house pointing out things here and there. When they got to the bedroom area, the girls looked into the master bedroom and bathroom and then the guest room. The last room had been where Deacon and Rayna had furnished a nursery for when they would have had kids, but unfortunately it hadn't been used. They had spent hours painting the walls a warm cream color and fantasizing about what it would look like with a baby in there. They hung paintings with animals on the walls. They placed a rocking chair next to a crib so that they could be in there with the baby when they put them to sleep. They placed a rotating mobile with stars and hearts over the crib so that the baby could fall asleep watching it. It was a small room, perfect for a newborn. The new owner had turned it into a small office but when Rayna and Deacon opened the door they both remembered what it had looked like.

Maddie brought them out of their memories, "what was this room?" Deacon looked at Rayna first and knew that she probably wouldn't be able so answer so he did, "we had furnished this room as a nursery." Maddie looked at them and then at the room, this could have been her room! She gave them a small smile and they smiled back but Maddie could see that Rayna was almost going to cry so she walked into the living room and Daphne followed her. Deacon put his arm around Rayna's waist and she rested her head against his shoulder and fought back her tears because the girls were there. Her voice was heavy when she whispered, "I just wish you could have been there. We had planned everything and I always thought of you when I saw Maddie, it was hard." Deacon kissed the top of her head, "I'm sorry I wasn't there too. One good thing did come out of you being with Teddy though." Rayna looked up at him and smiled a little, "Daphne." Deacon nodded, "and I'm happy the daughter I do have I share with you. I wouldn't want it with anyone else." Rayna kissed him, "I'm happy she's yours too and Daphne loves you too." Deacon smiled, "yeah, I love her as if she was mine." Rayna kissed him again and Deacon said, half jokingly, "maybe we should have another baby." Rayna's jaw hit the floor but then she grinned, "I don't think we are ready but maybe after we build the house?" Deacon was shocked, "I wasn't being serious but I guess we will cross that bridge when we get to it." Rayna smiled, "plus, I think we should practice the act of making a baby more. We spent way too many years apart." Deacon chuckled and kissed her, "I like that idea." Rayna giggled, "I knew you would!" He smiled and led her into the kitchen.

Daphne was looking at a fondue machine, "can we have some please please please?" Rayna smiled, "yes after dinner." Rayna made salad and Deacon made bacon egg and cheese sandwiches. Maddie watched her parents move around the kitchen as if it was what they had done for their whole lives and she hoped to have a relationship like that one day. Daphne found chocolate that they would be able to melt and marshmallows that hadn't been opened in the cabinet. They sat down on a blanket on the floor in the living room by the fire and ate all together. Maddie asked, "did y'all draw out the plan for the house?" Rayna and Deacon shook their heads. Maddie looks around, "are there any notepads around here?" Rayna said, "I have one in my handbag you can take it."

Maddie got up and got the notepad and a pencil that she found in the kitchen. She sat back down and drew out a rectangle. Daphne pointed to one corner, "I want my room to be there!" Maddie drew a square where she pointed and then made a hallway and put her room on the other side. Rayna and Deacon looked at each other, shocked that the girls were doing this. Rayna pointed to one wall, "this is where the entrance will be and the kitchen will be on the right side of it and the living room on the other so that it's an open space." Maddie drew that as best she good and labeled each room. They went on like this till they were done. The house had two floors with four bedrooms, two upstairs and two downstairs. With the master bedroom, upstairs, there was also a master bathroom and the guest room was also upstairs. They had also planned a music room so that they could all practice their music and maybe record there. This had been their dream house in the past and now with the girls there it felt even better. Maddie ripped out the two pages and handed them to Rayna, "I believe that you will give these to the builders as soon as you see them?" Rayna laughed, "of course I will!"

Rayna and Deacon washed and dried the dishes while Daphne's eyes stayed glued to the fondue machine as the chocolate started to ooze out of it. Maddie opened the marshmallow bag and got strawberries that Rayna had brought. Maddie said to Daphne, "how about you take these to the living room and I'll carry the fondue?" Daphne took the marshmallows and strawberries and walked into the living room with Maddie right behind her. Deacon turned to Rayna, "those girls are something else babe." Rayna smiled, "oh I know! Are you ready to start living with them?" Deacon kissed her cheek, "mhm because I know you're on my side." Rayna kissed him quickly in response before they joined the girls. Rayna and Maddie reached for the strawberries and Deacon and Daphne reached for the marshmallows. Rayna looked at Deacon, "pass me a marshmallow." Deacon dipped the one he was holding into the chocolate and put it to Rayna's lips and she took a bite of it trying to make it as normal as possible because the girls were there. She smiled at Deacon and he smiled back. She asked, "want a strawberry?" He nodded and Rayna fed him one. The girls didn't seem like they cared but Rayna and Deacon stopped for their own sakes.

They all ate everything and then Daphne asked, "are you going to keep anything from the this house to put in the new one?" Rayna and Deacon both said at the same time, "well, I was thinking-." They stopped and looked at each other a little in shock and laughed. Deacon told her to go first. Rayna said, "I was thinking to tell the builders to keep the doors and install them in the new house, especially the main door because we still have the original keys." The girls thought that was cute and Deacon smiled and then said, "I was thinking to keep some wood from the floor and bring it to a craftsman so that it could be turned into a table." He paused, "maybe for the dining room? So that we could all use it." Rayna smiled, "that sounds good! Do I get to pick what it looks like?" Deacon shook his head, "you'll have to wait and see." Rayna pouted but then laughed when Daphne said, "well, I want to keep the fondue machine if that's ok." Maddie liked the idea of them keeping things from the house. It was a reminder of their past and the open door to their future as a family; she smiled at that thought.

A WEEK LATER

During the past week they had gone through the whole real estate and financial ordeals in order to buy the house. Rayna and Deacon both signed the contract that made their house theirs again and it made both of them so happy. They had each talked to the builders and showed them the drawing that Maddie had drawn. They also told them about the doors and the wood from the floor. They were now standing in front of the house, ready to say goodbye to it because it was going to be broken down today. Rayna had her arm around Deacon's waist and he had his around her waist. "I'm going to miss this house a little," she said. "I know darling, I'll miss it too. But the important thing is that we will have a new house and a new place to call home." Rayna nodded and kissed him before looking back at the house. She felt a little pathetic as a tear rolled down her cheek and she whispered, "goodbye dream house." Deacon kissed her temple and they stood there for a little longer, looking at the house. The doors had already been removed and all the furniture was taken out; it was empty. The builders were ready to pull the walls down and Rayna hid her face in Deacon's neck, "I don't think I want to watch them while they take it apart." Deacon knew exactly how she felt, "me either. Let's go." They looked at the house one last time taking a mental picture of it as they drove away, holding hands between their seats. Rayna whispered, "we will see you very soon. When you are all nice and new." Deacon smiled over at her and drew soothing circles on her hand with his thumb.

Thank you for reading. May I have a penny for your thoughts, please? Oh and any suggestions that y'all might have. :)
