Getting to know one another
Another day has passed as the group continued on their journey to Dragon City with Hikaru leading the way for the trio. So far no enemy had decided to attack them as they traveled down the road of the forest in complete silence. Miyuki was looking up at the trees in amazement as the light from the sun shone through the gaps of the leaves while listening to the wind that rustled the branches. The fifteen year old took in a breath before letting it out in a quiet sigh. She then turned her gaze upwards to look at the dragon that was leading them through the forest.
Miyuki couldn't help but admire how strong and confident Hikaru looked as patches of the sun's light shone down on her body.
'I wonder how she had gotten so strong?' thought Miyuki.
Hikaru seemed to sense that Miyuki was staring at her for the dragon turned her head around to look over her shoulder to glance at the young human with a frown etched on her muzzle.
"What are you looking at?" growled Hikaru suspiciously.
"N-nothing Mrs. Hikaru," stammered Miyuki as a blush appeared on her face. "I…I'm just admiring how strong you look."
Hikaru's frown soon changed into a look of astonishment as she looked at Miyuki for a second before turning her head forward again with a huff. Miyuki let out a sigh as she turned her head down towards the ground with a sad frown on her face.
"That could have gone better," spoke Hail as he looked at Miyuki with a raised eyebrow.
"Tell me about it," muttered Miyuki as she as she continued to cast her eyes down at the dirt that she was walking on.
"You seem to be admiring Hikaru a lot on this journey," said Hunter with an amused smirk on his face.
"Well who wouldn't" said Miyuki as she looked up at the older cheetah "I mean…back where I come from the dragons within the regions of the fire nation had almost been killed to extinction during the Hundred Year War."
"What?!" exclaimed Hail in shock surprise.
Hikaru quickly stopped in her tracks when she heard what Miyuki had said and quickly turned around where she was facing the group with a serious look on her face. The trio quickly stopped in their tracks when they saw the light dragon facing them.
"What do you mean that the dragons of you world had almost been brought to extinction?" questioned Hikaru as she glared down at Miyuki.
Miyuki felt a little intimidated under Hikaru's glare but soon worked up her courage as she began to explain to the group.
"Well…it's a really long story, but to make it short a hundred years ago the fire lord, Shozen of the Fire Nation had started a tradition on slaying dragons as an ultimate sport. Anyone within the Fire Nation who managed to kill a dragon was given the title "Dragon" and their talents in Fire Bending became legendary after that."
Hikaru's gaze hardened as a deep growl began to emerge deep within her chest, while she pulled her lips up to bare her fangs.
"Those humans who live in the Fire Nation should be punished for the crime that they had committed" growled Hikaru as her claws dug into the ground. "They are no better than Malefor was when it came to slaying his own kind over power!"
"Hikaru, calm yourself," said Hunter as he tried to calm Hikaru down.
"He's right Mrs. Hikaru" stepped in Miyuki "besides, not all of the Fire Nation people were bad back then, because two dragons were still left in the world and were safely hidden in a civilization of the Sun Warriors. And another person from the Fire Nation kept the secret that two dragons were still alive within the world by lying that he had kill the last dragon. The man who had lied to his people was called General Iroh, the Uncle of Fire Lord Zuko, the nephew who had discovered that the two dragons were still alive alongside the last Air Bender, Avatar Aang. Together the two friends learned the true meaning of Fire Bending by watching the movements of the two dragons, Ran and Shaw, flying through the sky around them."
"So what you're saying is that there are people within the Fire Nation who are against slaying dragons?" questioned Hikaru as she stared at Miyuki with a judgmental look on her face.
Miyuki smiled while nodding her head: "And not only that, but after Aang had defeated Zuko's father in the Hundred Year War it had been decreed that the dragons are to be left alone and there is now another dragon roaming the land again."
"So the dragons within your world are returning," said Hunter.
"Yes, but very slowly," answered Miyuki as she looked at Hunter with a sad frown on her face. "So far there have only been three dragons that are thriving within my world."
Hikaru's hard eyes soon soften as she looked at Miyuki with a sad frown forming on her own face.
"It must have been hard for the Fire Nation people to realize what they had been doing a hundred years was wrong," said Hikaru in a soft voice.
"Yeah," voiced Miyuki with a nod of her head "It took a while for people to realize that they were hunting the creatures who have been known as the first Fire Benders within my world."
"Well that's a fascinating story and all, but shouldn't we be going?" questioned Hail as he spoke with impatience etched into his voice.
Hikaru glare at the white cheetah for a moment before letting out a huff and turning away as she began to walk down the trail again. Miyuki, Hunter and Hail quickly followed behind the Light Dragon as she led them on through the forest.
"You know, you shouldn't get so interested in this half-breed dragon," voiced Hail as he glanced at Miyuki with a frown.
"Why not?" asked Miyuki as she looked at Hail curiously "and why do you dislike her so much, did she do something wrong?"
"Not exactly Miyuki," answered Hunter as he looked at the young human that walked beside him. "You see, Hikaru wasn't born the same way the other dragons were in Dragon City."
"What do you mean?" voiced Miyuki quietly for fear of knowing the answer.
"The reason I wasn't born like the other dragons is because my mother had mated out of her own kind," answered Hikaru in a gruff voice. "She thought it would be amusing to mate with another creature outside of Dragon City and was banished when someone found out about what she had done."
"But how could she have mated with another creature when she was a pure breed dragon?" asked Miyuki curiously as she scratched the back of her head in thought.
"Hikaru's mother had the power to shape shift into different beings," answered Hunter "She was one of the rarest dragons that had ever been born within our world."
Hikaru let out a scoff: "She may have been one of the rarest types of dragons to have been born into this world, but she wasn't the greatest mother to dragon hatchlings especially to me."
"What do you mean?" questioned Miyuki.
Hikaru was silent for a few moments before she quietly let out a sigh and soon answered Miyuki's question.
"My mother abandoned me when I was just ten summers old," Hikaru explained as she looked over her shoulder to glance at the group behind her. "She gave birth to me underneath the roots of a large tree that marks the borders between Avalar and Dragon City. For a while my mother took care of me, but as soon as I started growing older she left without even telling me where she was going."
"Your mother left you without even saying goodbye, huh" voiced Miyuki sadly as she looked down at the ground that she was walking upon "kind of sounds like me now that I think about it."
Hikaru stopped in her tracks again which caused the trio to stop as well as the she-dragon turned around to stare at Miyuki with a curious look on her face.
"What do you mean by that?" asked Hikaru with a frown.
Miyuki didn't answer for a minute, but when she did her voice was full of pain and regret.
"Back where I come from I have a twin sister and we were both born in the middle of the night as the snow fell gently from the sky within the South Pole," said Miyuki as she began to tell the group a little bit about her life. "We've always been together for as long as I could remember, but we were soon separated at the age of four after our parents found out that my twin sister was the Avatar."
"Avatar?" echoed Hail as he looked at Miyuki in confusion.
"The Avatar is a bender who can control all four of the elements," answered Miyuki with a smile "No one is sure how the Avatar came into existence, but throughout the years when the Avatar dies he is reborn into a child who is part of a culture that is different from their predecessor and begin anew with the element they are born in. For starts my twin sister is of the water tribe so when she dies than her spirit will be reborn into the earth element."
"Whoa," breathed Hail in astonishment.
"You sure know a lot about the Avatar, don't you Miyuki" said Hunter with a smile on his face.
"The elder of my tribe, Master Katara, always told me stories about how she traveled all over the world with her brother, Sokka, and the last Avatar, an Air Bender named Aang," spoke Miyuki as a blush came on her face.
"So your sister is the next Avatar, huh" said Hikaru as she raised an eyebrow up in interest.
"Yeah," replied Miyuki with a nod "but being the Avatar isn't exactly a walk in the park."
"What do you mean?" asked Hail.
"Well…the Avatar is a being who is the bridge between the material world and the spirit world," explained Miyuki. "So she has to be connected with her spiritual self to actually have a connection with the spirits, but so far she hasn't really connected with the spirits of her past lives yet and she hasn't quite gotten a handle on Air Bending yet either. There's also the job in keeping peace with other people who try to declare war on each other, but my sister usually starts fights instead of stopping them. She has a long way to go when it comes to living up to the states of being the Avatar."
"Sounds like you worry for your sister," spoke Hikaru.
"Yeah," said Miyuki with a sad frown on her face "I also worry that being the Avatar might be too much for her."
"Wait a minute here!" exclaimed Hail as he looked hard at Miyuki "if you're worried about you sister so much then why aren't you with her back in your home world?"
Miyuki took in a deep breath before answering Hail's question: "Because…I started having negative feelings about my sister and they started to scare me."
Hunter frowned before asking Miyuki: "What kind of negative feelings?"
"I…I started growing jealous of my sister," answered Miyuki "she always has our parents attention on her and everyone within the order of the White Lotus always fusses over her wellbeing and trying to keep her safe from the outside world. But the major jealousy point is where I envied her. Korra was born as a bender while I was born as a none-bender. None-benders are always looked down on by benders who see them as inferior insects and I always felt like I didn't belong to the Water Tribe."
"So in the end you couldn't take being in your sister's shadow anymore and decided to leave to find your own place in the world, huh?" guessed Hikaru as she figure out the end of Miyuki's story.
"Yeah," replied Miyuki with a nod as she turned her gaze down to the ground "but my biggest mistake was not telling my family of my problems and not even saying goodbye to them in person. Now I'm regretting my decision and I keep wondering what my family is doing right now after finding out that I'm gone. They're probably worried about me or angry with me for leaving them without a seconds notice."
The group became quiet as Hikaru and the two cheetahs' looked at the young human with pity before Hunter stepped forward and placed a hand on Miyuki's shoulder. The human teenager looked up at the older cheetah in surprise. The older cheetah gave Miyuki a gentle smile before he spoke.
"Your family is still your family, Miyuki" said Hunter "they'll always love you no matter what decision you make."
"Yeah," stepped in Hail "and besides I'm sure that they'll understand why you left them, one day."
Miyuki looked at the two cheetahs in surprise before smiling at them: "I hope so."
"Hey, cheer up squirt," spoke Hikaru as she gave Miyuki a gentle smile of encouragement when the teenager turned to look at her. "I'm sure you'll get back home someday."
Miyuki's smile grew when she heard those words before a determined look came over her face.
"Alright then," said Miyuki with a firm nod of her head "no more feeling sorry for myself, it's time for me to move forward and continue on with the present."
"That a girl," said Hail as he ruffled Miyuki's hair with his left paw/hand.
Miyuki let out a light chuckle when Hail ruffled her hair before she playfully shoved him away. Hunter smiled as he watched the two for a moment before he spoke.
"Alright you two that's enough fooling around. Let's continue on with our journey."
"Right," echoed Miyuki and Hail as they nodded their heads at their older companion.
Hikaru let a soft smile appear on her face as she watched the trio for a moment before she turned to look forward again and began to walk down the path with the two cheetahs, and human girl following behind her. The group continued on their way towards their destination to hopefully make it half-way to Dragon City before nightfall came upon the forest.
Hours later
The group had stopped for the night as they set up camp with a camp fire roaring throughout the night. Hunter and Hail were sleeping not to faraway from the camp fire while Miyuki stayed up for night watch along with Hikaru who was watching as the young teenager was practicing her Water Bending moves from the scroll that she had unrolled on a flat rock in front of her. The Light Dragon observed in silence as Miyuki turned and twisted as she moved her arms and body around in slow motions, while bending the water that she was practicing with from her water skin. Miyuki's moves where growing more and more graceful as she became a lot more confident in her movements.
"So this is how you and your tribe control water, huh?" questioned Hikaru as she let her head rest on her front paws.
"Yeah," replied Miyuki without losing her concentration "we have to practically move like the water, unlike the other people from the other Elemental Nations."
"It must take a lot of skill and practice to become a master at Water Bending," said Hikaru with a smirk. "I'm also sure that it takes a lot of discipline to become a warrior as well."
Miyuki couldn't help a laugh that came out from her lips: "You could say that, but Water Bending can not only be used as just a weapon. It can also be used in helping to heal people who are sick or injured."
"That's understandable," muttered Hikaru with a shrug of her shoulders. "After all, water is one of the sources of life in both our homelands."
"Words were never spoken so true," said Miyuki before she eased the stream of water back into its bowl.
Miyuki took in a deep breath before letting it out as she went into a relaxed position then turned to look at Hikaru.
"Mrs. Hikaru," said Miyuki as the dragon raised an eyebrow to show that girl had her undivided attention. "Did you ever know who your father was?"
The light dragon let out a deep sigh with a solemn look imprinted on her face.
"No young human, I'm afraid not" replied Hikaru as she stared at Miyuki sadly. "You see…my mother never really spends much time with the ones she has decided to court with. She just jumps to the next mate that she finds suitable for her and has a rut with him."
"Oh," voiced Miyuki as she sadly turned her gaze down to the ground.
"And speaking of fathers, what is your father like?" questioned Hikaru.
Miyuki looked up at Hikaru with a smile on her face: "My father is one of the best Water Bending warriors of my tribe. He's very strong, but he's also really kind to the people around him."
Hikaru let out a light chuckle: "Sounds like you really look up to him."
Miyuki blushed as she nodded her head at the Light Dragon with a smile still on her face. Miyuki had always loved her father and always saw him as a strong man who held a kind heart.
"And what about your mother?" asked Hikaru.
"My mother is really gentle and loving towards my sister and me," replied Miyuki as the blush disappeared from her face. "She's also really beautiful. I think my sister got our mother's look and our father's strength."
"And what about you?" asked Hikaru again "What did you get from your parents?"
Miyuki blinked in surprise before frowning in thought: "I'm not really sure. I haven't really thought about it very much."
Hikaru let out a light rumble as a thoughtful look came over her face while she stared at Miyuki for about a minute before speaking.
"If you want my option about what I think about you, then I would say that you might look more beautiful than your sister and mother, while adding to the fact that you might hold the spirit of a warrior in you."
"You're just saying that," said Miyuki.
"Believe what you want Kidd-O, but I think what I say is true" said Hikaru with a smile. "It'll just take some time for you to gain more confidence in yourself."
Miyuki looked at Hikaru in surprise for a moment before smiling at the dragon: "Thanks Mrs. Hikaru."
Hikaru only smiled at the young human before letting out a yawn: "I think it's about time for you to switch out with one of you male companions."
"Yeah, you're probably right" said Miyuki with a yawn of her own as she stretched out her arms. "Goodnight Mrs. Hikaru, see you in the morning."
"Goodnight squirt," said Hikaru as she was about to closed her eyes and fall asleep when she added. "And just for the record, you can just call me Hikaru."
Miyuki looked at Hikaru in astonishment for a moment before a smile appeared across her face. Miyuki quickly rolled up her scroll and Water Bended the water back into her water skin before walking over to Hunter and woke him up for his turn on Night Watch. Once the older cheetah was awake and placed on watch, Miyuki walked over to her sleeping bag. Miyuki took off her boots before crawling into her sleeping bag. Her sleeping bag was stationed near the fire on a patch of soft moss. Miyuki watched the fire dance across her vision for a moment as she let its hypnotic dance send her to sleep. As soon as the eyes of the young teen had closed, Hikaru's eyes opened once again as she looked over to where Miyuki laid on the ground. The light dragon stared at Miyuki's unconscious form for a few moments before slowly getting up to her feet. Hunter turned around to watch with interest as Hikaru walked over to Miyuki before the light dragon lay down beside the sleeping teenager.
Hunter smiled: "It seems you're starting to get attached to her."
Hikaru only looked at Hunter and let out an annoyed huff before lying her head down on her paws again, while her tail curled in a loose circle around Miyuki's sleeping form. Hikaru slowly closed her eyes as she let sleep overcome her senses. Hunter watched on with a smile on his face as the light dragon slept beside the young human to protect her from the dangers of the night.
'Looks like you've earned the trust of one dragon Miyuki,' thought Hunter with a light chuckle before he got back to looking out for any sign danger that might sneak up on him and the group.
Unknown location
In a dark cave that was hidden to all, but by those who know its location, the group of apes that had attacked Miyuki's group ran through the tunnels before they came to a large chamber. The chamber was alit with torches as the light of the flames dance against the walls, while creating shadows along the crags and cracks within the chamber. In the middle of the chamber was a giant plat form that was covered in shadow. The group of apes slowly approached the plat form before a deep dark voice spoke up from the shadows.
"I see that you have returned empty handed," growled the voice displeasingly.
"Forgive us Shadow Lord," spoke one of the apes as they all bowed towards the owner of the voice.
"Where is your commanding officer?" questioned the voice, now known as the Shadow Lord. "I wish to give him a long talk about how his failures displease me."
"I'm afraid that our leader has been killed Shadow Lord," spoke another ape in a nervous voice.
"Oh," purred the Shadow Lord dangerously, "by those two cheetahs that are guarding the Dragon Warrior?"
"N-no sir," spoke the same ape with a stutter "our leader was killed by a lone dragon that lives within the Avalar Forest."
"Oh," spoke the Shadow Lord curiously, "And who was this lone dragon that had taken down one of the strongest warriors of my army?"
One of the apes gulped before answering: "It was a half-breed your excellence ship…a she-dragon to be exact."
"A half-breed she-dragon?" growled the Shadow Lord dangerously as he slowly rose up on his platform. "It is probably one of my deceased sister's spawn that she had abandoned within the regions of Avalar. Never mind…that half-breed is none of my concern, what I want is for you to bring the Dragon Warrior to me so that I may use her power to rule over this world, do you understand?"
"Yes your Evilness," echoed the apes as they all bowed down in front of the Shadow Lord.
"Good," purred the Shadow Lord. "Now go and don't come back until you've retrieved the Dragon Warrior, if not then do not bother coming back to me."
With a cry, the apes quickly ran out of the chamber while the Shadow Lord watched them go. The Shadow Lord let out a snarl before another creature came to stand before him. The creature was a goblin with sickly green skin and black eyes that stared up at the Shadow Lord fearfully. The goblin was wearing a tattered brown leather vest and loin cloth that was held up by a black leather belt. Black tattoos decorated the goblins body along his arms, back, legs and cheeks.
"You summoned me your Evilness?" asked the goblin.
"Yes," replied the Shadow Lord, "I want you and a couple of your men to go to Dragon City and attack it. Make sure to block the gates so that the Dragon Warrior and her companions don't enter the city."
"Yes me lord," said the goblin before he quickly sprinted out of the chamber.
The Shadow Lord let out a rumble from deep within his throat as he scrapped his claws against the stone plat form he sat upon. The Shadow Lord's claws made deep claw marks within the stone.
"One way or another, I will have your powers Dragon Warrior," growled the Shadow Lord with a smirk as he pulled back his lips back to reveal white fangs that were as sharp as daggers.
With Miyuki and her group
The sun shone brightly within the sky as it slowly rose up to announce the beginning of the day. Miyuki let out a groan as a few rays of the sun's light fell on her face before rolling over in her sleeping bag as she tried to get a few more minutes of sleep, but she was soon nudged awake by something softly pressing against the side of her face. Miyuki slowly opened her eyes and saw the familiar face of Hikaru looking down at her with a soft growl coming up from the dragon's throat that Miyuki can only guess was a purr. Miyuki let out a yawn as she slowly sat up within her sleeping bag.
"Morning Hikaru," said Miyuki with a sleepy smile.
"Morning you little squirt, time to greet the day" replied Hikaru with a grin appearing on her muzzle.
"Okay," muttered Miyuki as she stretched out her arms.
Miyuki suddenly notice that Hikaru's whole body was encircling around her before looking up at the dragon in surprise.
"We're you sleeping with me the whole night?" questioned Miyuki gently.
Hikaru merely shrugged her shoulders at the young human: "I just thought that I should keep you from getting too cold during the night."
Miyuki smiled as she looked down at the ground for a moment before glancing back up at Hikaru again.
"Thank you," said Miyuki.
Hikaru only nodded her head at Miyuki before slowly getting up onto her paws. The she-dragon stretched herself out like a cat, while letting out a loud yawn that shook the ground underneath Miyuki. Miyuki only chuckled before looking towards where Hunter and Hail were sleeping. She saw Hunter leaning up against one of the trees while Hail was sleeping on the ground as he curled himself up into a ball next to the now dead fire as he loudly snored up a storm. Miyuki rolled her eyes at Hail before slipping on her boots and standing up out of her sleeping bag. Hikaru sat down on the ground as she watched Miyuki walking over to Hail while an amused smirk appeared on her muzzle. Miyuki was soon standing over Hail as she looked down at the white furred cheetah for a minute before gently nudging his side with her foot.
"Hail, come on, it's time to wake up," spoke Miyuki as she tried to wake up the cheetah.
Hail let out a groan before he rolled over onto his other side while muttering: "Five more minutes."
Miyuki rolled her eyes with an amused smile on her face before walking back over to where her backpack was and pulled out her waterskin. Hikaru let out a soft rumble as a smirk form on her muzzle, while she watched Miyuki walk back over to Hail. Miyuki stood over Hail again as she unscrewed the lid of her waterskin. Once the lid was off Miyuki summoned out a stream of water and formed it into a small sphere that was about the size of the palm of her hand. She let the ball of water hang over Hail's head for a moment before releasing her power on the sphere and let it drop down onto cheetah's head. Hail let out a yelp when the water fell down on top of him and quickly shot up with a splutter. Miyuki let out a chuckle as she watched Hail rapidly shake his head to get the water out of his fur before glaring up at Miyuki in anger.
"What the heck was that for!?" shouted Hail as he waved his arms wildly around.
"I had to wake you up somehow," replied Miyuki with a smile, "Plus it's pretty funny to see you waking up with that trick."
"I'm going to get you for that," growled Hail.
"Well if you wake up early when the sun comes up then you wouldn't have water being dumped on your head," spoke Hunter, who had woken up when he heard Hail's yelp.
Hail only grumbled as he stood up from the moss that he had been sleeping on last night. Miyuki giggled a little more before calming down and screwing the lid back onto her waterskin. Miyuki walked back over to her sleeping bag and began to roll it up with Hikaru watching her.
"Make sure you two don't forget anything," instructed Hunter as he finished packing up his supplies. "Dragon City is only a two hour walk away from here so let's make sure that we don't leave anything behind."
"Right," echoed Miyuki and Hail.
The two traveling companions began to pack their things while making sure that they didn't forget anything. Once the group had packed their belongings they began to hit the trail again with Hikaru leading the way. The walk was silent for a while before Miyuki began to speak.
"So what's Dragon City like?" asked Miyuki.
"Dragon City is a magnificent place where dragons can make a home for themselves," answered Hunter with a smile, "Dragon City was built by a tribe of moles to honor the dragons that they had befriended centuries ago. It is now a safe haven for dragons who wish to start a family and to celebrate the year of the Dragon."
"The year of the Dragon?" repeated Miyuki in befuddlement.
"The year of the Dragon is a celebration for newly hatched dragon chicks," spoke Hikaru as she answered Miyuki's question. "Those who wish to participate in the celebration gather eggs together in a safe and secluded place where the chicks could hatch without anyone harming them. They are also protected by the Guardians to insure they are hatched and that they can be returned safely to their families after they are born."
"Whoa," voiced Miyuki in amazement, "that must be a really big responsibility in protecting dragon eggs from creatures who want to do them harm."
"It is," replied Hunter with a nod, "the future of the dragon's race depends on the survival of those eggs. Long ago a tragedy fell upon a group of eggs that were being guarded by Ignitus and the other Guardians in a temple that sat not too far from Dragonfly Swamp lands. Malefor's army had infiltrated the hatchery and destroyed many of the eggs that were in the temple. The only two remaining eggs that had survived the tragedy were a purple dragon egg and a black dragon egg. Those two eggs hatched into the two dragons that had saved our home world from being destroyed, Spyro and his mate Cynder."
Miyuki felt her heart sink into her stomach after Hunter explained what had happened to the previous eggs from long ago.
"Why?" spoke Miyuki sadly, "why did Malefor's army destroy those eggs in cold blood?"
"Because Malefor felt threatened by a new purple dragon being born who was destined to stop him from exceeding his plan of world destruction," answered Hunter sadly, "Malefor knew that if Spyro was born then that would mean the end of the Dark Master's existence."
"But what about Cynder?" asked Miyuki, "what part does she play into this whole story?"
Hunter was a little hesitant at first to answer, but soon sighed before he spoke again: "Cynder was once part of Malefor's army."
"What?!" exclaimed Miyuki as she stopped within her tracks in utter astonishment with the group stopping as well.
"What Hunter says is true," replied Hail as he scratched the back of his ear in boredom, "Cynder had been part of Malefor's army and had helped in resurrecting him by stealing energy from the four Dragon Guardians."
"B-but why?" asked Miyuki innocently, "And how exactly did she get to be part of Malefor's army anyway?"
"That is quite complicated to explain Miyuki," replied Hunter as he gestured for the group to continue walking. "You see…Malefor was torn on his decision about needing a dragon to help in freeing him from his prison. So on the same night when Ignitus saved Spyro's egg from being destroyed by the Dark Army, one of Malefor's minions, an ape, stole one of the dragon eggs from the hatchery and when Cynder hatched she was forced into strict combat training. Darkness soon corrupted Cynder and turned her into an adult dragon that everyone knew and feared throughout the regions. She was known as Cynder, the Terror of the Skies. Many creatures within our home world feared Cynder and grew to hate her for what she had done to cause destruction upon our lands. But through Spyro's actions he was able to save her from the darkness that corrupted her and change her back to her younger dragon form."
"Yeah, but that still doesn't mean that some of the people within the distant lands will forgive Cynder for what she had done within the past," countered Hail with a frown. "She had taken thousands of lives within the battle of the Dark Armies and didn't spare a single innocent life."
Miyuki looked at the two cheetahs for a moment before going into silence as she began to think over what they had told her. Cynder had once been part of Malefor's Dark Army and had killed many lives within the process, but in the end Cynder was saved by Spyro and brought out of the corrupt darkness of Malefor's influence. Didn't that mean that Cynder had changed from being the monster that she had been before to the dragon that she was today? With that thought firmly in her mind, Miyuki spoke to the two cheetahs again.
"Sounds to me like Cynder is trying to fix a mistake that she had no control over within her past," said Miyuki.
"Yes she is," replied Hunter, "and through her actions she is able to gain the respect from the people that she had once tormented throughout the lands. But there are still many who think of her as an enemy and will not hesitate to attack or kill her."
"Well…if I ever meet Cynder, I like to get to know her before I pronounce judgment on her," said Miyuki in a calm voice.
"Very wise young one," praised Hunter with an approved smile on his face, "and hopefully Cynder, Spyro and the rest of the dragons will have a chance to get to know you as well before misjudging you."
"Yeah, but if those dragons try to hurt her when they first see her then I won't hesitate to strike back at them," spoke Hikaru with a deep rumble emanating from deep within her chest.
"I thought that you were only going to accompany us to the gates of the city and then head straight back to your little tree," said Hail with a frown on his face.
"Hey, somebody has to look after the little squirt when you two aren't around to help her out of a tight situation," explained Hikaru as she gave the white cheetah a glare from over her shoulder before smirking. "Besides, I'm starting to get attached to her believe it or not."
"You got to be kidding me," muttered Hail in disbelief.
Hikaru only snorted before turning her head forward and continued to stare out at the path in front of them. Miyuki stared at Hikaru in utter astonishment before a smile broke out on her face. She had never met anyone within her village that was willing to stay with her and be her friend before. Miyuki was kind of glad to have found a few people who were willing to help her within this strange world that she had been transported to without knowing how to get home in the process. The group continued to travel in silence for the next two hours before they came to an opening within the tree line.
"We'll be coming out of the forest soon," spoke Hunter as they neared the exit. "Once we pass through these trees you'll be able to see Dragon City."
Excitement grew within Miyuki's heart as they grew closer to the end of their journey through the forest.
'I wonder what the city will look like?' thought Miyuki to herself. 'Will it be large and grand as Hunter said it will be? I wonder if the dragons there will really let me stay with them for a while until I finished completing my training as a Dragon Warrior.'
Miyuki didn't have to wait long to find out as the group emerged from the forest and stepped into the bright light of the sun that had been blocked out by the branches of the trees. The group was momentarily blinded for a second, but when they got their vision back the sight that met their eyes horrified them. They saw Dragon City alright, but what was happening at the gates of the magnificent city was what horrified the group. The city was under attack by dark creatures that were fighting against the dragons that were defending the gates. Dread began to sink into the groups' hearts before Hail spoke out first in a soft voice.
