Hey everyone! First of all I'm so sorry I haven't uploaded anything, I've been super busy with AP's (super-big tests) and finals coming up. But hey, what about that AOS finale? I'm still reeling from that (the emotional damage to my Fitzsimmons is overwhelming). But here's a new chapter for you all lovelies. Please comment and favorite to let me know that you guys are still out there (and not too mad at me)
~Savvy
Ward stared across at the seemingly inconspicuous warehouse where Fitz's newest contraption had traced Jemma to. He hoped that this wouldn't be another bust. The others couldn't handle another one. He had watched Fitz and Skye's hopes crumble after they had checked the entire abandoned base, for any sign of their missing friend. She hadn't been there. Fitz hadn't slept until he had reconfigured his entire workshop, completely redesigned the entire tracking device at least thrice over, and then begged May to let him test it. Skye had been tracking signals and radio feeds all over the world, searching for any digital evidence of Simmon's whereabouts. It was almost too much to bear.
He radioed May "Looks empty, but still be on your guard". Silence greeted him. She was probably already inside the building. "Clear" May answered. "I'm not getting any heat signals so far" she reported back. He could hear the underlying disappointment in her voice. She missed the young british scientist just as much as everyone else. "Are you sure May? Scan everything. There could be a trap door or wall or-" Coulson cut Fitz off. "May, we're coming in since the building is clear of hostiles. Do you copy?" He interjected. "Yes Coulson" she replied. "Good. Ward, you stay on guard" Coulson ordered. "yes sir" Ward replied. He didn't want to go in the building anyway. He didn't need to see their new disappointment.
May watched as Fitz, Skye, and Coulson made a break for the warehouse entrance, scanning for any enemies or traps. Coulson ducked inside the doorway first, followed by Fitz and Skye. Coulson nodded curtly at her, then turned to Fitz and Skye. "I want you two to split up and search the warehouse. Call if you find anything. And if there are any hostiles, do not engage. Under any circumstances. You radio back to me. Understood?" He asked, looking at the both of them. "Yes Sir" Fitz answered, anxiously looking around as if Simmons was hidden in the walls. "Skye?" Coulson asked, raising an eyebrow. "Ward taught me some pretty badass moves. I can handle them" She said with a grin. May tried to keep from rolling her eyes. That kind of thinking got rookies killed. Coulson agreed with her. "I said no, Skye" He warned. Skye huffed in retaliation, but May knew she cared for Coulson too much to disobey orders. Skye and Fitz took off in opposing directions.
She turned to Coulson. "Why get their hopes up? If there's no heat signals, there's almost no chance she's here. And even if she is here, that just means that there's an even lesser chance that she's alive" May said, her voice low. Coulson looked at her, his eyes determined. "I know But as long as there's hope, we can't give up. We have to keep looking for her. May, if I've been brought back from the dead, why can't Simmons?" He reasoned. May sighed. "You can't keep giving them false hope. It's not fair to them" she noted. Not fair to any of us. Coulson brows furrowed. "May, when has life ever been fair?"
Leo opened another one of the side offices. She had to be here. She had to be here. Another empty white room. He cursed and slammed the door, moving the next room, throwing the door open.
The door was thrown back on its hinges, revealing the sterile white room. A crumpled body in a lab coat lay in the center of the room. He couldn't see her face, didn't need to. He'd know her form anywhere. All of a sudden, his legs wouldn't work and he fell against the doorframe, his breaths coming in short bursts. Jemma. He ran, almost fell towards her. He collapsed next to her, feeling as if his heart had burst. No. "Please, please" he whispered to her as he cradled her in his arms, looking for signs of breathing, pulse, anything to prove she was still alive. "Jemma!" he screamed his voice echoing through the building. "Jemma" he whispered. "Don't leave me. Don't go" he begged her quietly, tears streaming down his cheeks. His eyes blurred with tears and he blinked furiously. Was... was she breathing? He could feel a pulse. weak, but still there. He could breath again.
"Fitz! What are- Simmons?" Skye's voice came from behind him. He turned towards her, as Coulson and May appeared in the doorway. May's eyes widened in shock, instantly assessing the situation while Coulson stood in shock. Fitz smiled through his tears. "She's alive" he announced.
Skye was at Simmon's side instantly. She looked over the seemingly dead scientist worriedly. "Is she okay?" she questioned. She wasn't a scientist or any kind of doctor, but something told her that Simmons was not okay. She grabbed for the girl's wrist, but accidently grasped hold of her forearm. She could feel an icy cold metal through the fabric of the coat. Her stomach churned. "Uh, Fitz?" she questioned. "What, Skye?" He asked and she could hear his relief. As far as he was concerned, Simmons was out of the woods. Wordlessly, she pulled up Simmons sleeve, exposing the C.E.N.T.I.P.E.D.E. device implanted into Simmons forearm. The same device that C.E.N.T.I.P.E.D.E. super soldiers had implanted in their arms.
