Chapter 19
A.N
I have tried in the past for the last two books, to have a separate timetable for the Slytherins and the Gryffindors but for this book, and probably the others, I will have them in all the same classes as Rose is more intertwined with the golden trio and their story.
Thanks to FriendlyAdvise who gave me some tips on a previous chapter. It was well taken and I'm very grateful. Will try and re-edit that chapter buy only taking some of the tips as that was all your work that you sent (I don't want to steal.)
As I entered the Great Hall the next day for breakfast, the first thing I notice was Draco, who was making impersonations around a gang of Slytherins. I ignore them and sit down. Harry wasn't too happy when he walked past causing all the Slytherins to laugh at him. I slide some toast onto my plate and peered at my class timetable. Great, I thought, I have Divination first. I grabbed my books, shoved another piece of toast in my mouth, and left the hall to find the classroom. I wasn't the only one who couldn't find the blimmin classroom.
"Is this way North?" I heard Ron say to Hermionie behind me. Harry, Ron, and Hermionie were arguing with each other trying to figure out where the class room was.
"I thinks its this way," I say pointing down the hall in the direction I was heading in.
"Thanks Rose," says Hermionie as she rushes up to me.
Harry grins to me, while Ron just grumbles something under his breath.
We manage to find the class room or should I say attic just as the class started climbing the ladder. I give Hermionie a worried look before climbing up. As I sat at one of the tables, I look around trying to see through all the smoke. Hermionie, Ron, and Harry sat with me just as the old bat made her appearance.
"Welcome,' she said through the smoke. "How nice it is to see you in the physical world at last. Welcome to Divination. My name is Professor Trelawney. You may not have seen me before. I find that descending too often into the hustle and bustle of the main school clouds my inner eye."
I roll my eyes to Harry at her dramatic introduction.
"You boy," she says pointing at Neville. "Is your Grandmother well?"
"I think so," Neville replied nervously.
"I wouldn't be so sure if I were you." She then turns to Parvati Patil. "By the way, my dear, beware of a red-haired man."
Parvati goes white and scoots away from Ron, making my laugh quietly with Hermionie.
"Now I want you to divide into pairs. Collect a tea cup from the shelf, come to me, and I will fill it. Then sit down and drink; drink until only the dregs remain. Swill these around the cup three times with the left hand, then turn the cup upside-down on its saucer; wait for the last of the tea to drain away, then giver your cup to your partner to read. You will interpret the patterns using page five and six of Unfogging the Future. I shall be moving among you, helping and instructing."
Hermionie and I turn to each other after we collected our tea and slowly drank, both of us not looking too happy about our current class. After swapping cups, I begin a painful journey to figure out what was in Hermionie's, no matter how hard I tried all I could see was brown mush.
"Figured out what mine is," I ask looking over to her.
"Well if I see this correctly then you have a bird and what looks like a club," says Hermionie, "Which means that you will be attacked and it will bring good news."
"So nothing new then I guess." I say half-heartily.
"The Grimm!" screeches Professor Trelawney. "You have The Grimm."
We all look over to the psychotic Professor who was staring at Harry.
"It is the worst omen – of death!" Professor Trelawney was ghost white and looked like she was going to pass out. "Please pack away your things," she says walking to the back room and slamming the door behind her.
We all pack, hurrying to our next class, and everyone avoiding Harry. Next was Divination, and Harry sits at the table at the very back. Hermionie and I sit in front hoping to hide the glances everyone made towards him. Professor McGonagall starts talking about Animagi, which is where wizards can transform into animals. No one even gasps when she transforms into a cat.
"What has got into you all today?" said Professor McGonagall turning back into herself with a pop. After everyone glancing at Harry, Hermionie speaks up, "Please, Professor, we've had our first Divination class and we were reading the tea leaves, and -"
"Ah, of course," said Professor McGonagall frowning slightly. "There is no need to say any more, Miss Granger. Now tell me, who is going to be dying this year?"
"Me," says Harry.
"I see", she says. "Then you should know Potter, that Sybil Trelawney has predicted the death of one student a year since her arrival. None of them have died yet. You look in excellent health to me, Potter, so you will excuse me if I don't let you off homework today. I assure you that if you die, you need not hand it in."
Hermionie and I laughed, and Harry goes red but relief does flood over his eyes.
After class everyone rushed for lunch as the aroma had filled the corridors, and it smelt better then every.
I walked back alone just in case I came across any Slytherins, weirdly enough Draco wasn't giving me grief for sitting with Hermione. Lunch was normal, though I grabbed extra meat loaf which I had been eyeing up.
After Lunch I walked out to Hagrids hut, breathing in the crisp air, for my first Care of Magical Creatures class. The half-giant called us over and we all surrounded a fence where we saw a half eagle – half horse like creatures. We stared in awe at the curved beak and razor sharp claws, but mainly at the huge feathered wings on his back.
"Hippogriffs," boomed Hagrid waving a hand to them. "Now firs' thing yeh gotta to know abou' them is they're proud. Easily offended, Hippogriffs are. Don't never insult one, cause it might be the last thing yeh do." Hagrid lists off the necessary things you need to display to a Hippogriff.
"Right – who wants ter go first?" he asks.
I felt my stomach give at the thought. I would love to, but I couldn't keep my eyes off those razor sharp talons.
"I'll do it," Harry says stepping forward.
A few Slytherins groan, muttering things like 'of course the golden boy,' and 'has to be in the bloody spot light the whole time'.
Harry walks up and does all the necessary actions, not torn to pieces yet.
"5 galleons he gets thrown off," says Draco in my ear. "10 that he gets thrown into the black lake."
"I don't have time to play games Draco."
"But you're already playing."
I look over to see him giving me his usual snarky grin.
"I don't know what your talking about," I snap.
"You started playing this game when you were sorted into Slytherin. A game of loyalty, and deceit; the game never ends."
"Did Lucius set you up to this?" I ask feeling my heart pounding in my chest. He just laughs and walks back to the others. I look back to where Harry was once standing. He was now sitting on the Hippogriff, who was starting to run and then Harry was into the air on the back of this giant creature.
He was back down about 10 minutes later, looking a bit shaken but other then that he was fine. Draco was furious.
"I guess you owe me some money," I say to him but he doesn't hear me as he walks to the creature.
"I bet your not dangerous at all," he said. "Are you, you ugly great brute?"
In a flash the talons were up in the sky and Draco was screaming.
"I'm dying," Draco yelled. "Look at me! Its killed me."
Hagrid tried to calm him down as he picked him off the ground and started running to the Hospital wing.
We all slowly walked back, shaken up by what just happened. I could hear both houses shouting and arguing over whose fault it was and what should happen.
At dinner time, there was still no sign of Draco or Hagrid. I sat down at the table and all of a sudden the rest of the class sat around me, Lucian and Adrian among them.
"Can I help you?" I ask trying to grab food.
"Everyone in our house knows you are the Gryffindor lover," starts Adrian.
"Why are you telling me?" I say chewing on a roll. "Did you want an autograph."
"Are you soo stupid?" sneers Pansy.
"You need to go along with the rumors we will spread about Hagrid," demands Lucius.
I stare at him, "He didn't do anything wrong. It was all Draco's fault that he got attacked anyway."
They all just stare at me as if I was the stupid one. As I look at all their faces, I spot the golden trio watching me with a confused look. Well Ron looked livid, but that always seems to be how he looks at me these days.
Adrian waves away my class, leaving him and Lucius glaring at me from across the table.
"What if I don't go along with it?" I ask.
"You don't want to know," says Lucius. "But your new friends will find out very soon."
"Just don't say anything if people ask if its true or not," says Adrian leaving me alone think.
A week flew past with not so much as a look in my direction from anyone. I kept to my classes and I kept to the library. Divination was pushing it though, if I had to hear one more time how she could see my dead parents haunting behind my eyes then I was going to brutally hex something. Draco made his first appearance since the 'accident' at potions where he flaunted his sling as if he had made a new look. I sat at a cauldron with Hermione, as far from Draco as I could but I could still hear his complaining. As he had an 'injury', Ron and Harry ended up doing most of his work ordered by Professor Snape. I could hear his annoying voice going on about how 'father was complaining to the school board and to the minister of magic', to make it all worse he threw my name into the mud.
"Oh and Rose has heard some nasty stories about Hagrid," laughs Draco. Snape luckily doesn't hear as he was yelling at Longbottom again.
"What's he talking about?" Hermione whispers.
"It doesn't matter," I mutter as I threw in the Shrivelfig.
"Well it sounds like you're spreading rumors," she says furiously.
"I'm not ok, just leave it alone," I snap and she leaves at that.
I then overheard Seamus talking to Harry.
"Did you hear?" he whispers. "Someone has spotted Sirius Black not too far from here."
I went white, he couldn't be here. He knew that it was too dangerous for him.
At lunch Snow came flying in with a letter attached to her leg. After retrieving it, she flew off with a piece of bread in her beak.
The letter read:
Rose,
You have probably hear news about me now and I want you to know that I am safe.
I wish to tell you that you can write but use a different owl as to not cause any suspicion.
I hope the school year has been good so far and I hope to hear from you soon.
Snuffles
I chuckle at the nickname as I hurry to the owlery. I know don't have much time so I quickly scribble a message down, trying to code it as best as I could.
Snuffles,
I was shocked to hear that you were so near to home. I wish you safe keeping and to not make any rash decision.
School it as normal as it has ever been, but I have been told to lie about something important. What ever I choose, it will hurt people who don't deserve to be hurt. I just don't know what to do.
The Lion
I chose to sign it The Lion after the book I read at home The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. I really like the The Lion, Aslan who is in the book. I attached it to the closest bird which flew off without a glance knowing exactly where to go. I then rushed to my next class which was Defense Against the Dark Arts and I had nerves fluttering all through me. I arrived just as the last person was going into the class room. I walked in to find no desks and several confused faces all looking at the wardrobe in the middle of the room.
"You wont be needing your books today, so take out your wands," says Professor Lupin leaning casually against the wardrobe. The Wardrobe was old, with a look as if it would collapse at any given moment, and it gave a sudden wobble drawing all eyes to it.
"Nothing to worry about," says Professor Lupin calmly. "There is only a Boggart in there."
Everyone looked worry though, even me.
"Boggarts like dark, enclosed spaces," says Professor Lupin. "Wardrobes, the gap beneath beds, the cupboards under sinks – I once met one that had lodged itself in a grandfather clock. So the first question we must ask ourselves is, what is a Boggart?"
Hermiones hand shoots into the air.
"It's a shape-shifter," she says quoting from the book. "It can take the shape of whatever it thinks will frighten us most."
I did not like the idea of that. What would everyone think if it turned into Lucian or even Fenrir.
"I couldn't have put it better myself," says Professor Lupin. "The charm that repels a Boggart is simple, yet it requires force of mind. You see the thing that really finishes a Boggart is laughter. What you need to do is force it to assume a shape that you find amusing. The Charm in Riddikulus."
He gazes around the room seeing who to go first. I cower at the back not wanting to be first.
"Right, Neville," calls Professor Lupin. "First thing first: what would you say is the thing that frightens you the most in the world?"
Neville quickly glances around wildly then say in a whisper, "Professor Snape."
Everyone laughs, the loudest coming from Draco.
Draco leans into me, "I wonder what yours will be Grey. Most likely will be of you being alone forever." He laughs to himself.
"I know yours will be of daddy dearest, wont it?" I say.
He gives me a cold look before walking off.
Everyone starts laughing as I look back to the front of the classroom. I see that Neville had made his boggart of Snape wear his Grandmothers clothes. I stifle a giggle, if only I had a camera so I could show him later.
We all get into a line and I slink to the back hoping I will miss out when its the end of class. The line gets shorter and shorter. It then came to Harry who raised his wand ready but before the Boggart could change, Professor Lupin jump in front of Harry. The Boggart changed to a silvery orb hanging in the air.
"Riddikulus!" he shouts, turning it into a cockroach.
Professor Lupin puts the Boggart back into the wardrobe.
"Five points to Slytherin and Gryffindor for everyone who gave it a go," he says as we grab our bags and head out to the door into the moving masses.
Thanks for reading guys and being a huge support. If you have any feed back or suggestions then please review. My grammar and spelling is pretty bad at the moment because I don't have a proper word processor and it doesn't tell me if I have mistakes which is so annoying.
