Hello there, Skylinemaster here with another installment of The Devil Familiar of Zero.

"Speech."
"So how did you like that journey?" I said to Agnes after gently dropping her on the ground. She glared at me as she got to her feet, but ultimately said nothing.
We flew for about six hours straight, having watched the landscape change from rolling farmland to the mountainous area we are in right now.
I descended about a kilometer outside the city, to prevent anyone from getting suspicious. The sun is setting, causing a shadow to hang over the mountain road in front of us.
"Alright, what to do now?" I asked Agnes as she looked around.
"We find a place to rest for the night. We will take the next ship to Albion, and from there, we will make our way to Newcastle to rescue Wales." Agnes said as she gestured for me to join her at the main road. I nodded and walked right beside her as we made our way into the city of La Rochelle.
We walked into town, getting stares from the inhabitants of the town. The men were staring at Agnes, examining her armor that exposed her figure quite well. The women were staring at me, undressing me with their eyes, making me somewhat uncomfortable.
"Let's go in here." Agnes said as she pointed towards a building with the words Ye men of tire, written in Old Medieval English.
The inside of the inn is rather warm compared to the outside, where the temperature was falling as fast as the sun was over the horizon.
"Here for a meal or a night travelers?" The brown eyed, brown haired, old woman with bad teeth asked me in a deep Cockney accent. The woman is wearing a green cloak and looks to be in her early to mid fifties.
"A night." Agnes replied as the woman nodded.
"Follow me." She said before turning around to go into the next room. We followed her into the dining room, where there were many tables of patrons enjoying their food and drinks. The noise was very loud, and I was glad after we followed the lady up the stairs to the sleeping quarters.
"Here's your room." The woman said as we stopped in front of a wooden door. She then handed me a brass key.
"The cost of the night will be due in the morning." She said as she left. I opened the door, and entered the room with Agnes behind him.
The room looks relatively nice for a medieval inn from what I can see. There is a bed with a black blanket and two pillows on the bed. There is a fireplace at the far side of the room, and three wooden chairs scattered throughout the room. There is a candle chandelier in the hovering over the bed, and an assortment of wall mounted candleholders near the windows. There are two medieval windows in the room, one on the North side, and one on the West side. There is a small wooden chest in front of the bed, which I opened and found nothing inside.
"Well, what to do now?" I asked as I turned to Agnes.
"Now, we eat." Agnes said as she took off her armor and put on a black robe. I nodded and went down to the restaurant area, picking a table by the window. I took time to look at the décor of the medieval restaurant, noticing the shield and swords hanging on the walls.
"What'll you have?" The medieval barmaid asked with a smile as she came up to our table. This person was a female, mostly likely in her late teens, with brown hair and emerald green eyes. She is wearing a green robe, which doesn't hide her ample breasts which I could see many men drooling over.
"Pork and ale." Agnes replied.
"Mutton and ale." I said as the woman nodded before leaving. We waited for ten minutes, waiting for the food, before Agnes decided to speak to me.
"So, what are you?" She asked me, snapping me out of my daydream.
"What do you mean?"
"You know what I mean. What is a Devil?" Agnes said as she leaned near me.
"It is very complicated. What I am about to say, you might consider heretical, you must promise not to scream. Okay?" I asked her. She nodded so I leaned my head to whisper in her eye.
"I am from a different world." I said as I heard her gasp.
"In my world, there is no Brimir." I said, pulling my head back in anticipation of her screaming. Her face looks absolutely shocked right now, but she didn't scream, which is a good thing.
"In my world, there was a God who basically the equivalent of Brimir." I said as she looked confused.
"What do you mean was?"
"He died in a war between us Devils, Angels, and Fallen Angels. They have those here in Halkeginia right?"
"Yes, Angels are Brimir's most loyal servants and Fallen Angels are Angels that were disgraced after committing immoral acts." She said as I nodded, slightly amused that their version of Angels and Fallen Angels is so similar to ours.
"So that brings us to the Devils. Here is the abridged version. The original Lucifer, father of all Devils, was an Angel and right hand man to God. He became disillusioned with God though, leaving God's realm with a third of the Angel population. Lucifer and his followers then made a place called Hell their domain, and we live there to this day." I said to Agnes, who looks to have trouble swallowing this information in.
"So, do you understand?"
"Yes. Yes, I do." She said as I noticed the barmaid from before coming from the corner of my right eye.
"Here ya are." She said as she placed two mugs of alcohol and two plates of food on the table. I was truly surprised that she could carry that much as she was a rather small woman.
"Alright, let's eat." I said as she nodded. The food was tasty and it was definitely fresh by its taste. The ale was weak but had a much better taste than the alcohol that I drank in Hell or the human world. Granted, us Devils have a much better alcohol consumption ability and less strict laws than the humans do, so the ale might be strong for humans.
Agnes on the other side of the table looks to be enjoying her meal. She chugged down the ale in three gulps, surprising me that a female human could do that with no apparent aftereffects. She devoured the meat shorter afterwards, leaving only the bones behind.
"Alright, I'll pay the bill." I said as I heard noise coming from a table near mine. I turned my head to the disturbance and saw what is causing it.
There was the barmaid from before, her hand grabbed by a dirty, burly man. He was surrounded by his friends, each dirtier and burlier than the one before.
"Hey girlie, why the rush?" He asked as he jerked on her hand.
"Let me go!" She yelled, trying to get her hand free but to no avail. I should probably step in to make sure nothing happens.
"Let her go asshole." I said as I stood up and moved towards the other table.
"Let her go or what pretty boy?" He spat out as his five friends stood up.
"I'll kick the crap out of your sorry ass." I said as she pushed the girl out of the way. His facial expression was one of rage as he glared at me. He then grabbed the mug he was drinking from and tried to swing at me with it.
With my family's ability, the mug seemed to move in slow motion as it moved towards my face. I created a foot long ice dagger as I moved my head to avoid the incoming mug, thrusting the dagger into his stomach as my head bobbed out of the way.
He fell to the ground, blood gushing from his stomach as I looked at his five friends. Two of the stepped back, but the three remaining ones readied daggers that they pulled from their cloaks.
"Do we really need to do this?" I asked as one of them lunged at me with a dagger. I sidestepped the dagger and created an ice bottle, smashing him on the head with it, using less than thirty percent strength as I didn't want to kill the guy, just wanted to give him a really bad headache in the morning.
I turned my head to see a mug thrown at me by the second guy, which I dodged, as the other one tried to slash at my face with his dagger. I caught his arm, applying as all my Devil strength in order to crush his bone which would cause him to drop the dagger.
It worked and he fell to the floor, grasping his right arm in pain as I probably crushed the bone in that arm.
"Well, you're up." I said lazily to the last one standing. His feet are currently shaking uncontrollably underneath him as I noticed a puddle forming underneath him.
"Run!" He said as his two standing companions picked up the two currently on the floor. They rushed out of the inn, leaving all of their belongings behind as they fled. Everyone started to cheer as the door shut, causing the noise level to skyrocket.
I noticed the bag of gold coins on the table, and then saw the broken glass from the mugs on the floor.
"This should pay for my meal and all the trouble they caused." I said as I grabbed the bag of gold coins and threw it at the barmaid.
I then looked at the ground and picked up the dagger that one of them dropped, saving it for later, just in case if it is needed.
"Here are your broken mugs." I said out loud as I concentrated on the broken mugs on the floor. Everyone became silent as the mugs levitated off the floor and placed back on the table, all in perfect condition. I simply made the mugs as they were before the bar fight started with my time manipulation powers.
"Let's go Agnes." I said as I gestured for Agnes to follow me to my room. The crowd parted ways as Agnes and I made our way to the stairs, all still in dead silence after what I did.
Agnes was silent for most of the walk to the room, but I could feel her gaze on my body as I walked in front of her.
I opened the door to our room, letting her in and then shutting the door behind us. I walked towards the window, staring at the dark night sky outside the window.
I could clearly see the stars from inside the room, they are quite beautiful if you take the time to look at them. It is quite a shame that stars aren't as visible from the cities on Earth.
"Rofocal?" Agnes said, causing me to turn to her.
"Yeah?"
"We should sleep, we need to get up early for the first ship."
"Alright." I said as I went to the bed and pulled the blanket over me. I closed my eyes and waited for her to come in to the bed too, not because I want to sleep with her, but because of the fact that this is the only bed in the room and can easily accommodate another person.
"Don't worry, I won't try anything. Shouldn't matter though as you're lesbian right?" I asked her, not bothering to open my eyes to see her facial reaction.
"No! What makes you say that?" She asked angrily.
"Your mannerisms give it away even if your words don't." I said as I turned to my right side.
"I am not a lesbian! Why does everyone think that?"
"Your mannerisms and tough exterior are probably you compensating for something you have experienced in the past. This causes you to act like this, causing people to assume you are a man hater and a lesbian."
She remained quiet for a few seconds before she spoke up again.
"Rofocal?" She said in a broken voice.
"Hm?" I said as I looked at her. Her face paints a picture of sadness and anger at the same time. I sighed as I probably hit a sensitive topic in her mind.
"You are right, I have experienced something."
"What is it?"
"My family was taken from me when I was young. My village was burned down by a group of fire mages and I was the only survivor." She said as tears flowed down her face. I straightened up in bed, wanting to listen to everything she had to say.
"Is that why you are here today? You worked your way up society to find the person that did it?"
"Yes, the pain I have suffered helped fuel me to become someone in society and helps me find the person who did it." She said as broke down into tears. I stood out of bed, and embraced her with a hug.
"Pain is something we all have to deal with. It isn't about how much we can take it. It is about how we are afterwards." I whispered into her ear.
"I will help you find the person who burned down your village. What you choose to do to him is your choice. Let your emotions out, and then let them go." I said as I separated from the hug and stared at her face.
"Thank you Rofocal. You are the first person who has ever told me that." She said as she placed her head into my chest and cried for a very long time.
