Chapter 21: The Parents
Alison and Erica decided to get the birthday boy a gift together, since they both barely knew him. Alison was in the middle of wrapping the gift when her mother opened her bedroom door. She saw her wrapping a gift and asked her what was the occasion and her father peered into the room.
Alexander and Melissa are both in their mid-thirties. Alexander is a tall, energetic, lives life to the fullest kind-of-man with short-spiky brown hair, brown eyes, and is a doctor at Knightwood Bay Memorial. A stay at home mom, Melissa on the other hand loves simplicity, and lives on the safe side of life; a brunette with light brown colored eyes.
Alison explained to them that she was invited to a birthday party a friend of her's is throwing for his best friend. When she was asked where the party was she handed them the paper and her mom looked surprised while her dad grinned. Alison had no idea that her parents knew both boy's parents. In fact, she didn't even know that they knew each other in high school. Alexander knew Jake, Brandon, and Aaron more since they were all buddies. He also knew that Jake and Brandon had special gifts; what he didn't know was that they had children. Now they might have lost touch over the years ever since Brandon's and Alice's passing, but that didn't mean they were no longer friends. Melissa on the other hand wasn't close to the boys, but she was close friends with Miranda and Alice. She never supported them with the gifts they had. She tolerated it until Alice's passing. After that the friendships sort of went downhill. Melissa honored their passing by naming her daughter after them. She took the first three letters of her friend's first name and Alexander took the last two letters of his friend's first name to make the name Alison.
"Honey, that's sweet of you. How did you meet them," her father asked as he took a seat on her bed? Melissa stood at the door listening to her answer.
"I actually met them on the first day of school. Pretty funny actually." Alison explained to him.
So like Jake's kid to faint at school. Alexander thought to himself.
Melissa gave her husband a look of disapproval. He saw it and decided to act on an impulse.
"We should all go. I'm sure his family won't mind right?" Alex asked his daughter to which she smiled and accepted. Melissa on the other hand was not thrilled one bit.
"No. You can't GO!" Erica's father yelled out.
"Yes, I am. I already said I was." Erica yelled back.
Erica wasn't even considering going in the first place, but ever since her father found out about it she was insisting on going. Erica always listened to her father. Always. But ever since she became a vampire she wasn't liking the idea of conforming to her father's wishes anymore. She has always done that and what did she get in return? Getting pushed around by people who were superior, not anymore. This Erica made her own rules. With that final statement she slammed the front door of her house and used vampiric speed to disappear, while her father opened the door to look for her to no avail.
"Maybe you shouldn't have yelled. Besides I know these families. It's not like she was going with strangers." A blonde woman said as her husband came back inside.
Lance a tall, debonair man with short brunette hair and a self-proclaimed lawyer. He was close friends with Alice and Miranda, but never liked the idea of their husbands having magical abilities and most definitely doesn't want his daughter hanging out with them. Lucinda disagrees with her husband, it's because of them two that they are here today and not six-feet under. He doesn't understand the family like she does, in fact they never talk about it at all. Although she tries to bring it up, he always dismisses the topic.
"Let's go with her and maybe you'll have a change of heart. These families mean well. If Alice and Miranda accepted them why can't you?" Lucinda asked her husband who was thinking about what she just said.
"Fine we'll go, but that doesn't mean you're right about what is best for Erica."
"So," Justin stated as Benny locked the door to his house. "It's Friday, your spending the night at my house, and it's your birthday. Normally you'd be super hyper right about now." The taller of the two continued walking past Justin.
"My grandma left early and left a note saying she was going to be gone this weekend and that she was sorry for not wishing me a happy birthday in person." Justin felt bad and wanted to reassure him, but there was too much joy in his friend's voice.
"I'm sorry," he awkwardly stated, "is there anything I can do?"
Benny smirked and continued walking towards the school. Once they arrived to home room Benny was wished a happy birthday from Ms. Jager. He thanked her and took his seat as they waited for class to start. Justin thought, what is this goofball planning.
The three boys made it to lunch and to two of them one's behavior was odd, even for him. They watched as he picked his food aimlessly.
"Benny you haven't touched your food." Ozzie stated as he watched Benny.
"That's a first. Are you sure you're okay?" Justin asked.
Ozzie quickly whispered something to Justin to which he replied with a simple no. They turned back to Benny who seemed more excited than before. Justin saw this and was a bit taken back because not even Benny is this weird; at least not in public. He got out of his seat and took Benny outside. Ozzie stared and wondered what happened. He was about to walk outside to them when he heard something from the opposite direction. He dismissed the sound and went outside.
"Where do you think those three are going?" Erica asked Alison.
"I don't know, I couldn't even hear them. Could you?" Alison asked rather confused.
Erica explained to her that she couldn't hear them either and told her that she was definitely going to the party. Alison was speechless after she had said that she didn't want to associate with them. Erica told her what had happened with her dad and she nodded in understanding.
"What!" Justin exclaimed and began to whisper, "I thought we agreed not to mess with magic."
"Yes, but how cool would it be to animate an inanimate object!" Benny exclaimed while holding Justin's shoulders, "Besides grandma isn't here." The bell rang for the next class.
"NO! We are not going to do any magic, now lets get to class."
Justin called Ozzie over so they could start walking to their next class. Again he heard a random voice and turned around, but there was nothing there.
Erica and Alison's parents drove up the driveway to the Baywood Estate and Erica muttered, "Those nerds live here?"
"What's that honey?" Erica's mom responded and she nodded.
They were greeted by Mr. Baywood himself as they walked up the porch.
"Girls Ozzie is in the back setting up, come on in. Make yourselves at home." He told Alison and Erica and they walked into the estate. "Alex, Lucy, longtime no-see." He hugged the two.
"It's great to see you too!" Alex exclaimed.
"Mel, Lance, nice of you to drop by." Jake stated.
"Don't call me that." Melissa bitterly replied.
He invited them in and told Aaron to move the cars into the garage so Benny wouldn't suspect anything.
