Chapter 22: The Surprise!
They both walked into the backyard to help the kids set everything up. To their surprise the teens had finished setting everything up. They strung balloons and party favors across the entire backyard. There was a banner that said, "Happy Birthday B!" hanging up on the gazebo. Streamers floating on balloons, a couple beach balls in the pool, and confetti cannons at the ready for when Benny arrived.
"You kids are fast!" Jake exclaimed to the teens. "Well, I'll set up the grill and get the food going. How do you kids like your burgers?" The teens looked at each other and awkwardly smiled as he went inside to get some things and to settle the parents down.
"I don't want my girl associating with them!" Lance angrily exclaimed to Mrs. Knight. Melissa nodded in agreement.
"Enough," the man shouted at the group, "if my son went out of his way to invite your daughters it was with good intention."
"Honestly, you are not telling me how to raise my daughter." Lance walked up to Jake. "You-" Jake cut him off. "Have no right? I should mind my own business? I barely have time for my own son? Do you want me to go on?" Jake sarcastically stated. Aaron wanted to laugh as did Alex.
"You were always a freak." Lance dryly stated. Even though Melissa also disliked the boys she never went as far to call them freaks; they were still human. The room fell silent.
Alex mumbled, "So uncalled for."
While Aaron mockingly mumbled, "Somebody's jealous."
"Everyone, enough!" Grandma Knight exclaimed, "You are all behaving like children! You," she pointed at Lance, "stop acting like the world revolves around you, and you two, grow up. You are not ruining my grandson's birthday. Now everyone get ready they should be here soon."
They all obliged to the elder woman's demands, "They're at the front gate!" Jake exclaimed. Lance rolled his eyes, "Oh did you see them in your crystal ball?"
"NO! Through the window!" Alex and Aaron exclaimed, "Hide!" They all quickly went into the backyard to hide.
"For the last time Benny, NO! You are not going to cast a spell." Benny stopped him at the door.
"Justin, c'mon just once and I swear I'll never do it again." Justin was thinking this over.
"Fine! Just this once, but promise me you'll never do it again."
"I swear on my Jedi Honor," Benny made a sign and put it against his chest. "This is the only time I will ever cast a spell."
"It better be." Justin grunted.
Benny opened his spell book to the bookmarked page. "You bookmarked it?" Justin questioned. He simply ignored the accusation and began to read the spell the best he could.
"Vivére anímata, Sub-Zero, Grandé!"
They waited for something to happen. Nothing.
"Okay you tried and failed. Happy now?" Justin moved him and unlocked the door to walk inside. He shut it before Benny could walk in. Benny stuck his tongue out at him in annoyance and opened the door.
"Why is it dark in here?" Benny questioned. "Justin? Hello." He walked in into the foyer, "You better not scare me Justin. I know you're in here. I'm sorry about the spell."
He continued to walk towards the hallway when the lights suddenly came on. "Okay, this isn't funny anymore Justin."
"What's not funny anymore?" Justin asked coming from behind.
"Where'd you come from?" Justin said from his room. "Where are you going?"
"To see why the lights were off. You coming?" Benny shook his head. Justin mocked him, "Or do you wanna stay here and see if the lights go off again?" Justin slipped into the backyard leaving Benny alone in the house. He ran towards the doors. Wait the power box is in the basement. He swung open the doors and was blinded by the sun. Everyone burst out saying surprise and the confetti cannons going off.
"Happy Birthday, Benny!" Everyone exclaimed in unison. He was surprised big time. Justin always does this and every year he manages to catch him off guard. He was about to walk outside, but saw the string in time.
"Not this time Justin!" He went under the string and just as he was standing up, he came face-to-face with a birthday cake. Green and white frosting covered all of Benny's face and upper body. The cake fell off Benny's face and everyone began to laugh. Benny did not look too happy.
"Got you. Again!" Justin exclaimed proudly raising his fists in the air. Benny opened his arms for a hug. Justin backing away, "Benny don't you dare-" but it was too late Benny tackled him for a hug.
"Thanks JB." Benny whispered into his ear while hugging him. Justin couldn't say anything back because Benny was crushing him. He finally let him go. "You're welcome B."
"Who wants cake?" Benny offered, although no one said anything.
After everyone ate the adults went inside to let the teens have some fun. Besides, Jake had some things to tell them in private.
"Thanks for coming guys." Benny thanked Ozzie and the girls. "I'm surprised you didn't saying anything before." He looked at Ozzie.
"I can keep secrets." Justin and Benny chuckled. "Let's open presents!"
Ozzie began to hear murmurs from the table of presents. "Do you guys hear that?" Everyone looked at him, "It's coming from that table." He walked up to the table and was about to pick up the present when the box sprang to life on the floor. It began to shake slowly building up force. Ozzie backed away and everyone stared at the box that was now violently shaking towards the pool until it fell in.
"Okay, that was weird." Erica stated.
Bubbles began to rise from the bottom of the pool. The pool began to freeze over until it was completely frozen.
"I take that back." Erica retracted her statement. "That was definitely weird."
The group walked towards the pool. Justin knelt down, "Hmm, completely frozen."
Moments later part of the ice cracked. It cracked in all directions, the group backed away, then the entire ice shattered and a figure jumped onto the edge of the pool. The figure was wearing a black ninja suit with blue markings and a ninja mask that covered his face, only revealing his glowing blue eyes. His arms were frozen over, emitting icy vapors. He began walking towards the group. As he walked he left frozen markings around him. He raised his arms in the air and slowly began bringing them in, all the while the moisture around him began to form into a glowing ice ball. He stopped and flung it towards the group while grunting.
