Chapter 13: I Can't Do It

After the events of the night before, Zatanna sat staring at the muted T.V. Screen. It was currently playing one of Zatanna's favorite movies ever, The American. Last nights thoughts scattered all around her mind and distracted her from the movie as well as Mary trying to get her mothers attention. Zatanna snapped out of her trance in time to here the front door open and close, stating the arrival of her husband.

"Zee, Mary Ella, I'm home," he called from the front door, Dick walked into the living room to see the T.V. muted with Zatanna starting to braid her daughters hair. Dick kissed the side of Zatanna's head and told her that he was going to get changed. A few minutes lateR, Dick came down the stairs seeing Zatanna getting Mary Ella dressed and ready for something.

"Where are you going?" He asked curiously looking from Zatanna to Mary Ella giving them confused looks. Mary and Zee laughed and Mary Ella was the first to speak up.

"I'm going to Lian's house and we're going to play. Well I am at least," Mary Ella spoke innocently. She smiled and bright smile and a horn was heard outside. Zee leaned down to kiss Mary Ella's cheek and smiled.

"We will see you in the morning, okay?" She asked her daughter. Mary smiled at her mother and noticed that Dick had a confused look, "Sleepover, Dick," Zee cleared up. Dick nodded and understood. " Be good and say Please and Thank You! " Zee yelled from the door as she watched her little six year old jump into the backseat and closed the door behind her. Roy waved at Zee and Dick and drove away leaving Zee still staring out into space and Dick looking at his wife confused.

"We need to talk," Zatanna blurted. Zee took Dick to the living room and sat down sighing. "I know that you want Mary Ella to have a sibling, but...I just don't think I'm ready to go through it all again. I mean I know that she should have a sibling and everything, but I-I.."

"aren't ready to give up your life again," Dick interrupted. Zee smiled and nodded."I understand...well sorta, but I'll just go with it." Dick said, Zee laughed lightly and sighed.

"I can't do it. Just not at this moment." Zatanna said. Dick nodded and told her that he got it and that they'd take it slowly for a while. they headed off to bed and Zee got a good and long rest while being able to get that thought off her chest.
