Disclaimer: I do NOT own HoA

Patricia's POV

"I'll be back on Thursday, babe," he said, pulling me into a crushing hug.

"Yea, okay. Don't miss me too much!" I joked back.

"Will do," he said, smiling at me. The sound of a taxi/cab hooting outside our house made Eddie and I pull out of our embrace.

"Love you," he whispered before gently kissing my lips and turning around to head for the transport that if he set foot in, would keep us separated for 2 days (today was Tuesday).

When the taxi took off, I immediately went upstairs, in a surprisingly speedy manner, despite my stomach looking like a… yea…

I changed into a decent outfit and rushed downstairs, though I had all the time in the world.

I picked up my phone and punched in a number.

"I'll be right over now," I said to the person who picked up.

.

I arrived there in about 20 minutes, going over the speeding limit… oh well… I arrived where I was, 3 days ago. The huge 20-story building, with the huge sign, 'Adoption Agency'.

Flashback

"Hi… Um… I'm the person who called to come at 11 – Patricia Williamson-Miller?" I said, wiping my even sweatier hands on my shirt this time.

"Oh yes, you're here to see… Alfie and Joy Adams?" The receptionist asked.

"Yes, that would be them," I replied.

"Follow me." Another woman said, outside the 'box'.

"Okay."

.

"My name is Johanna Heaps. You can call be Johanna," the woman who was guiding me to the twins said. "And here…" she opened a door, "are Alfie and Joy Adams… Cute little things…"

"Oh my…" I whispered, looking at the two who lay in the same baby bed, playing with their feet. They turned their heads slightly to catch sight of who had just entered their room. That's when I fell in love with them. Their deep dark brown eyes twinkled in the light. They smiled at me.

"They must really like you. They don't usually smile at the other parents who come to see them," said Johanna.

"Oh…" I said, surprised. Was this really meant to be? Were Eddie and I meant to be their parents? I gave them a smile and exited the room. Without another word to any of the staff, I took the elevator to the ground and got into my car. I spent about an hour thinking, and when realisation hit me, I drove home.

End of flashback

.

Once again, I stood in the reception, where I was three days ago. The receptionist looked up from her computer and smiled at me, recognising me from the last time.

"Alfie and Joy Adams?" she asked.

"Yes."

"Same place as last time," she said, looking down at her computer again. I walked in the direction of the angles.

.

"I'm sorry ma'am, but you cannot do that. You and your husband need to be here to make that decision," an adoption finalist, Julia Martin said to me, frowning.

"Frikin hell," I muttered under my breath. "But he's the one who wanted to adopt them. I'm just here instead because he's away on a business trip. I want him to be surprised when he gets back home!"

"Ma'am, adopting children to give your husband a 'surprise' is not a thing to do – they're children, not toys," she said, obviously annoyed. "Besides, you look like you have… a kid in you already, so why do you want more?"

"I have-" I bit my tongue to stop myself from saying that I was going to have quads. If I did say it, I might as well kiss Alfie and Joy goodbye.

"I'm sorry, ma'am, but that's our rules."

"Fuck you," I mumbled, so she couldn't hear it. "Can I at least fill half the form in so when my husband comes he can just sign and we can take my children?" I asked.

"You're children?" she asks.

"Oh gosh, yes, MY children."

Julia sighed and started digging in her drawer.

"Fill in all necessary information, and sign there," she said, pointing to a line. "Then, when your husband comes, he can sign here and you can take Alfie and Joy home."

"Thank-you."

"Hey!" I said, hugging Eddie. I hadn't seen him for two days!

"Yacker!" he said, hugging back. He then pulls away and kisses me.

"So, did you miss me?" I teased.

"Every second, babe," he teased back.

"Don't call me that!" I said, punching his arm lightly. We both laughed.

"I have good news for you!" he said.

"I'm listening…" I smiled.

"The book got chosen! Out of another… 7 books!" he had a huge smile on his face that stretched from one ear to another.

"Really?" I asked, eyes wide and mouth open.

"Yea! It's gonna be out in a few months' time, probably early January next year."

"That's great! I love you sooooo much." I gave him a kiss. "But, we have to be somewhere, so come on!" I said, kicking his bags in and dragging him out again. I pushed him into the car and hopped into the driver's seat.

"Um, Yacker? Care to tell me where we're going?" he asked.

"It's a surprise. Take your tie off and tie it as a coverer, please." Eddie actually had to wear a tie for the convention… wow…

"What the fu-" he began.

"THAT BETTER END WITH FUDGE, EDDIE! I DON'T WANT OUR QUADS TO HEAR YOU SWEAR!" I screeched at the top of my lungs.

"Ah!" Eddie jumped in surprise. I burst out laughing.

.

"Can I take it off now?" he asks, frowning.

"Um… wait a sec…" I replied, getting out the car and going to the opposite side to open the door and get him out. He slowly came out and stood up. I turned him around so he was facing the sign of the building. I yanked the tie off of him. He stares at the sign for what seems like an eternity, but finally he looks back at me.

Was that a smile on his face?
