Patricia's POV
"Hey, how do you like this one?" Eddie held up a very darkish pink coloured paint.
"No. Absolutely NOT."
"Aw, please?" he begged.
"No, Eddie. I'm not leaving my daughters in a room painted with that revolting colour." I made sure that the conversation was over. Thankfully he noted that and put the paint down.
"And this one?" his voice comes from behind.
"Eddie, I said n-" I stopped mid-sentence. I looked at the colour he was holding up. I quite liked it.
"Yea, you were saying?" he threw me a smirk.
"Whatever… yea, that colour's good… we'll take it."
.
We arrived home and started on the nursery. We decided that the boys would take one room, and the girls, another.
"You start with the girls; I'll do the boys, yea?"
"Um… okay…" I reply, not really bothered.
"So Alfie and Joy are coming home in a week… excited?" he gives me a light punch.
"I guess so…" I smiled. Those two faces were the faces of angles.
"We'd better get started… and let's try get it done without any help, yea?"
"Okay."
.
Two weeks later
I stared at the ceiling and rubbed my eyes. I had had a good 12 hours of sleep but I was still as tired as shit… Just then, I heard crying from the next room.
"Get her, will you?" I asked.
"Arggggg…" Eddie groaned.
"Please? For me?" I asked again.
"You just had to say that…" He rolled his eyes and got up. He walked out the door and a few minutes later, he walked back in, carrying precious Joy in his arms.
"Hello Mommy." Eddie said in a baby voice.
"Aw… you wanted to see Mummy?" I cooed. Eddie throws me a strange look.
"You know, if I had realised that you were gonna become so soft after having children, I'd have made us have one AGES ago…" he said, smirking.
"Weasel face…" I mumbled. Just then, we heard another cry come from next door. I winked at Eddie, as he groaned and made his way to get Alfie.
"Hello, baby." I looked down at Joy who was now in my arms. She giggled. Eddie walked in, again, with another little infant in his arms.
"Aw, Alfie missed Mummy too," I said, shifting Joy's weight in one arm, and stretching out the other to get Alfie in my arms.
Once we had had a nice chat, Eddie decided to make breakfast – two bottles of warm milk for the twins and pancakes for us. *Breakfast in bed*
.
Later that night
I was reading Eddie's editor's work. I reached the point where Eddie wrote that Melissa (Trudy in my days), the House Mother was giving birth. As I read the sentence where she started receiving contraction, I too, felt a sharp pain.
"Wow, it feels so realistic…" I mumbled and carried on reading. Again, I felt a sharp jolt. I cocked my head to one side. "It's just the babies kicking," I said to myself.
As I felt pain the third time in under 3 minutes, I knew this wasn't kicking pain. I KNEW these were contraction pains. Panicking, I jumped up – a mistake. I felt another contraction hit, but this one, far more painful than the last.
"Eddie!" I tried to scream, but nothing came out of my mouth. I whipped my phone out of my chest pocket and dialled his number. A few rings later, he picked up.
"Daniel?" he said, in a questioning manner. Oh, Daniel was his publisher.
"No, me. Downstairs, now." I finished and ended the call. Even I could hear that my voice wasn't the normal – it was hoarse.
"Um… Patricia, why did you just call?" Eddie's voice came around the corner of the stairs. He appeared, looking down at his phone.
Another contraction hit.
"Flip, Eddie. Come help," I cried out.
"What's happening- OH MY GOSH PATRICIA!" his voice was loud when he finally realised what was going on.
"Well realised, Doofus." I somehow managed to keep my sense of sarcasm even though I was in labour.
.
Shite, I just gave birth to 4 frikin babies… I sighed as I watched them, all in their individual incubators, fast asleep.
"Knock, knock!" I hear a soft voice. I look up and smile.
"Hey," I said in a warm tone. Thank you for not fainting while I was giving birth… not that I was fully conscious…" I teased.
"Very funny… Anyways, um… I kinda need to talk to you… about our children's names…" he mumbled.
"Uh oh… Please just get it over and done with…" I say, closing my eyes.
"InamedthefirstchildAmberinsteadofAriabecausetherewasanursecalledAriawhowashelpingyouandshewasatotalbitchandInamedJeromeJerominsteadofJeromybecauseitsuitedhimbetter…" he finishes, extremely fast.
"Pardon?" I asked, not understanding a single thing he had said.
He took a deep breath.
"I named the first child Amber instead of Aria because there was a nurse called Aria who was helping you and she was a total bitch and I named Jerome Jerome instead of Jeromy because it suited him better…" he manages to say.
"Okay cool." My response was defiantly not what he was expecting. He just looked at me, wide eyed, head cocked to one side.
Then, 'Amber' started crying.
"Ag bring her, would you?" I asked.
"Sure."
"And could you go out?" I asked, once he had given me Aria. Ag, I mean Amber.
"Why…?"
"Because I'm about to breastfeed her…" I mumbled, blushing.
"Oh Patricia, I've seen you naked before…" he smirked.
"Eff off, Eddie!" I blushed even harder as he turned and closed the door behind him.
I stared down at the little blob of preciousness as she began feeding… Oh, I am a happy mother… only, I did not know what lay ahead…
