~Len P.O.V.~
Rin had fallen asleep in my arms, her hand tightly holding onto my shirt even in her sleep. She was breathing steadily and her cheeks were no longer bright red or covered in tears. She finally had calmed down.
I smiled as I looked down at her, gently brushing her hair with my fingers. The gold strands felt so soft to the touch. Holding her and seeing her like this made me calm too.
People were still performing solos, but I wasn't going to leave Rin to go see them, even thought they were my friends. She needed me with her right now. Even though she was asleep, she still needed me. If I left her, she'd notice.
I eyed the purple bruise covering her ankle, glaring at it as I hoped it would go away. Lola had gotten Rin an ice pack, which currently sat by my side, but I didn't want to put it on her while she was sleeping. She was so relaxed and I didn't want to disturb her.
My mind kept thinking about the talent scouts that were watching us. Lola had told me they'd be most likely to pick two or more guys because they wanted more guy dancers. If they pick me and not Rin, I will give it up for her. She'll go instead of me. She deserves it more than I ever will. I don't have the passion for dance like she does.
I just want to keep her smiling.
I gently kissed her forehead.
"I promise to keep you smiling Rin," I whispered, knowing she probably can't hear me.
Lola knocked on the door half an hour later, "Len, Rin, the scouts have made their decision. Please come back stage left where everyone else is."
I nodded my head. Once she left, I sighed before lightly nudging Rin's shoulder. Her eyelids moved and then fluttered open.
"What is it Len?" Rin asked as she yawned, looking up into my eyes.
"Everyone has danced already; time to see who got picked."
I could see her expression sadden somewhat after I told her that. She looked down at her ankle.
I cupped her chin and turned her to face me. "Rin, like I said before, if those teachers can't tell what an amazing dancer you are and don't pick you, they are missing out on the best, most dedicated dancer ever."
There was something different about Rin when I told her this a second time, she was blushing.
No she couldn't be blushing.
She was probably just nervous.
That had to be it.
Silence followed what I said, so I decided to help her up.
I assisted her in walking up stairs and she leaned against me as we waited with everyone else. We all wanted to hear our names called. I didn't want to hear mine, unless if my sister's name followed. I tightly held her hand as she rested her head on my shoulder.
Lola walked out on stage, holding an envelope in her hand. "Thank you everyone for coming to our mid-summer dance recital," everyone in the audience started clapping. Meanwhile all of us back stage were growing more and more nervous. "Tonight is going to be a very special night for four of my dancers. They will receive a full scholarship for the dance program offered at Crypton Academy. I know you are just excited as the dancers are, so let's start!"
Lola opened the envelope. It was the slowest moment of my life, but for Rin it was slower. She seemed more and more nervous. Miki and Gumo noticed this and came up to us, both of them placing an arm around Rin too. A small smile formed on her lips, making me calmer.
Everyone was silent, longing to hear their name. Even the audience was silent.
Lola pulled a sheet of paper out of the envelope and cleared her throat. "The first student receiving a scholarship to Crypton Academy is . . . SF-A2 Miki. Please come out here."
Miki's face was as red as her hair as she nervously walked on stage. She bowed when she reached center stage. Everyone clapped, except for Rin. She was looking down at her foot, her bruise.
Lola hugged Miki before handing her the acceptance letter to the school.
"Next student is," Lola looked farther down the sheet so she could read the next name, "Miki's partner, Megpoid Gumo."
Gumo walked on stage. He went up to Miki and hugged her. Both of them were smiling happily when Lola gave Gumo his own acceptance letter.
Rin didn't clap for Gumo, she didn't even seem happy.
I could tell from the harsh look in her eyes that she was envious of them. She didn't seem to care that they were her friends. She didn't even pretend she was happy for them.
I didn't want her to feel that way towards me, if I get picked.
"Next student is. . . Kagamine . . ."
I begged for them not to call my name, I couldn't live with her hating me.
Please say Rin.
Please.

"Len."
It hit me like a bullet.
My eyes widened.
This couldn't be real.
I watched Len walk out on stage and take his acceptance letter. My legs trembled and my knees knocked as I tried to support myself. I didn't want to have anyone see or hear me cry, so I tried to go downstairs. I pressed my hand on a wall for support as I walked downstairs. I could hear everyone clapping, cheering, and congratulating him.
"That should be me," I muttered as I felt tears roll down my cheeks. I chewed on my lower lip as I tried to hold back the tears. But I couldn't. They wouldn't stop. I sat down on the step and cried. My chest ached and I couldn't get myself to stop.
"It's not fair!" I exclaimed as I kicked the stone wall with my injured foot, not even realizing I was using the injured foot. A surge of pain up my entire leg followed and I shrieked. Even more tears came. I held the pulsing leg into my chest and cried silently into my knee.
