Chapter 5- Umbrella

~Jessica Sher~

The rain pitter pattered on the roof when I woke up my first day of summer. I loved that sound. It called for a lazy day in bed with movies and hot chocolate. But I already had plans. I was supposed to go to the mall with Casey. She would throw a fit if I cancelled on her. But I couldn't go out in this rain. I dialed up her number on my cellphone.

"Hello?" said a semi sleepy voice.

"Hey, it's Jessica, I can't go today I have something I need to do" I said.

"What?! We had this shopping spree planned for the whole second half of the school year! What could be more important than shopping?" Casey asked.

"I have to clean the house, a few of my family memebers are coming over and my mom told me there would be no going out until the house was clean" I replied in a bored tone.

"Oh my gosh! I can totally help you with that! I'll be right over! " Casey said before I could try to stop her from coming to my house. I pulled the comforter over my head in frustration.

I heard the persistent knocking about ten minutes later. I pulled myself out of the bed and walked down the stairs toward the front door.

Casey was wearing a pair of sweats and a slim t-shirt. She had her long brown hair pulled up in a topknot and she was carrying a big red umbrella that dripped with buckets of rain. I made sure to stay far from the soaking wet material.

I moved out of the way, so she could enter the house. She shook the umbrella before stepping in and setting it against a wall.

"I don't see what needs to be cleaned Jessica" Casey said, glancing around the house with her hands on her hips. I looked at the floor.

"Okay, I lied. I just really can't go out today. I don't feel well" I replied.

"It's just a little bit of rain. It won't hurt you" Casey said, shifting her weight to her other leg. I sighed.

"It's not that! It's... I'm having PMS, I don't want to go anywhere today, okay?" I said, crossing my arms over my chest.

"You know what?!" Casey grabbed my arms and pulled me outside into the rain, leaving her umbrella inside the safe, dry house. I screamed as I felt the sudden rush of magic overcome my legs. The next sensation I felt was falling to the ground, my tail making an entrance.

"Oh crap!" Casey said.
