Chapter 7: What is a jewel shard?
When Fur-Naut joined the Tachi group he realized one thing. He agreed to help search for jewel shards but didn't know what they were for. "Hey Kagome?" Kagome looked over at him, "Yes Fur-Naut?" "so umm...what are these jewel shads you are looking for exactly and why?" He rubbed the back of his head with a confused expression.
Kagome blinked before realized she didn't really explain about the jewel shards. Miroku noticed and stepped up to Fur-Naut "Well my good man the jewel shards are what comes from a spiritual item called the Shikon No Tama also knows as the Jewel of Four Souls. It is called the Jewel of Four Souls because it has four souls of four different names: Aramitama (Courage), Nigimitama (Friendship), Kushimitama (Wisdom) and Sakimitama (Love). The souls can make a person very powerful."
Fur-Naut nodded his head taking that information is then asked, "So how did they become shards then?" Kagome choose that moment to nervously laugh and looked down with a guilty expression. "That would be my fault. You see I was trying to save a boy from a crow and so tied one of its feet to an arrow to shoot at it...the arrow head pierced the jewel, shattering it, then the shards scattered across the land. Now we are trying to collect them and fix the jewel but also to keep it out of Naraku's reach."
"Before you ask he is a half demons but not like Inuyasha here." Miroku smiled and nudge Inuyasha.. He scoffed and scowled. "Least I was born this way instead of giving my body up to demons to be devoured an then become a half demon."
Fur-Naut processed all what they said in his head. 'So apparently this jewel is important to them and someone can become a half demon by letting other demons devour him/her? Crazy yet makes sense in a way.' He rubbed his chin thoughtfully throughout his thinking process.
While walking with them Inuyasha sniffed the air and stopped to draw out his sword for battle. Everyone else in the group stopped as well to a fighting stance. "Hey if you can fight that will be great. If not stay out of the way."
A giant olive green lizard demon ran out of the forest and stopped before looking over all of them. "Inu, it has a sacred jewel shard in its stomach." It settled its red eyes on Kagome before charging towards her. She fired one of her sacred arrows but it dogged the arrow coming to her right. Inuyasha jumped over her to swing his sword at the lizard. It backed off but not without a cut on its chest. Miroku threw some sacred sutras that immobilized it.
While it was struggling free Fur-Naut made sure to keep at a distance for he doesn't have a weapon but if need be he can fight hand to hand combat. He carefully watched them to see how they take down a demon. Before anyone could get close to it to remove the shard and not harm the lizard, it broke free. Its tail whipped at Miroku, who was thrown back and hit a tree. Sango yelled out, "Miroku!" and when to check on him. He inched his hand to her bottom and rubbed against it. Sango tensed up before slapping him across the face. "Pervert." Inuyasha moved in front of Kagome to shield her.
Sango hopped onto Kirara, who transformed into her larger form, and charged at the lizard. "Hirikosu!" It flew in the air hitting the lizard on the back of its head. Roaring in a weird squealing noise, "Eek!" it turned towards Sango. Inuyasha swung Tessaiga while its back was facing him "Wind Scar!"
The attack ran across the ground striking the lizard and destroying it. Kagome quickly ran to the jewel shard and purified it. Opening the small jar that was attached to a necklace she put the shard in to keep it safe. 'Well that was a fast battle but lucky no one got hurt this time. I wonder why Fur-Naut stayed away?' Kagome thought then shrugged.
Shippo, who was with Fur-Naut during the battle, bounded towards Kagome and hugged her. "Wow Kagome I think that was the shortest battle I have ever seen!"
"Feh that was all because of my Tessaiga baka." Inuyasha smirked and sheathed his sword. He didn't notice Kagome's eye twitch when he called Shippo a baka. So she softly said, "Sit boy." and walked away chatting to Shippo. Inuyasha plummeted to the ground from the beads around his neck. Miroku got up and shook his head, wrapped an arm around Sango to walk with Kagome. Fur-Naut snickered and followed while Inuyasha picked himself off the ground grumbling.
'Baka. If he didn't dis Shippo I wouldn't have had to sit him. Oh well.' Kagome shook her head and smiled softly. 'I just wish he would grow up in some ways.' She started humming some nights. "Hey Miroku what else is there about the jewel shards?" Miroku went to walk by Fur-Naut. "Well as you saw earlier that lizard had a jewel shard in it." a nod, "that lizard wouldn't have been that powerful or big if it didn't have a jewel shard. It enhances those who posses it and gives them a false sense of strength through greed. Hose who are pure like Kagome can purify the shards and keep it under control for she is a miko."
"Ah I see." Fur-Naut walked up to Kagome and smiled. "Well I guess that makes your job of collecting them harder right?" Kagome nodded but smiled. "It does but we meet people on our journey that needs help, we stop and help them. Most the time we run across a shard like today while helping."
They continued to travel towards Edo talking about the Shikon no Tama well into the late afternoon. Kagome ask for a rest and Inuyasha not wanted to get sat again in front of someone he hardly knows allowed the group to rest nearby a stream. Shippo went to grab some water while Fur-Naut said he would help by starting a fire from the wood that Miroku collected. He pulled out his lighter and lit a few dry cheap grass.
"Hey Fur-Naut...where did you get that lighter?" Kagome asked. She was surprised that he even owned one. "I've always had it. I smoke cigars and need one on hand." He laughed, "Though last time I smoked a cigar when I was around Zig she commented on how she actually liked the smell since it smelt of grapes." Kagome sat next to him and decided to get a few questions out of the way.
"So tell me about your world. What's it like and what type of things do you have? Is it anything like mine?"
(anyone knows what a lizard sounds like? I sure don't anyways sorry its been like two years...I had a lot of things going on. Mostly health issues but hope you enjoyed this chapter.)
