AN: Alright, I'm trying to get back into a rhythm with this, but I've been busy this past week. And I was annoyed because I couldn't really think of much to write for this episode. But I finally settled on this beginning scene because I thought it was funny. When I started writing it, it kind of found a new direction, so I hope you all like it.

Please review! I'll try to have another up soon (I think I'm working on another update for The Fall, so we'll see.)

Kate pulled up to the crime scene and groaned when she saw Castle had beaten her there. It was funny how he always seemed so smug when he accomplished this, but never said a word when he strolled up just before she left.

"You got here fast, Castle." She said as she walked up to him and Esposito, not really annoyed anymore, just amused at his enthusiasm.

"My side of town." And there it was, the smug smile, but Kate wasn't going to let him gloat this morning.

"So what do we got?" She asked Esposito, but Castle seemed determined to show off.

"May I?" He asked and Esposito shrugged.

"Be my guest." Esposito held out his notes for Castle and Kate only just prevented herself from laughing; this would be interesting.

"Thank you. Our victim's name was Caleb Schim-"

"Schamanski." Esposito corrected him quickly.

"Is that an 'a'?"

"Of course its an 'a'." Kate couldn't prevent the smile from crossing her face this time. They were worse than brothers, bickering and correcting each other.

"And he was pulling a Kevin Bacon in Quicksilver-"

"I'm sorry, a what?" She should've known this would happen.

"Quicksilver" He replied as if she was supposed to know what that meant. She shook her head, confused. "Kevin Bacon is a bike messenger who fails" Kate did not have time for this. Exasperated, she looked over to Esposito.

"Esposito, take him to school."

Kate knelt down and examined the body as he gave his report, all the facts, none of the show, exactly what she needed. When he was finished, she looked up at Castle.

"See that wasn't so hard." She could feel Esposito's smug smile, matching Castle's annoyance.

"No, no. That's good, if you like the dull, non-bestseller version." Castle agreed sarcastically.

"I though I gave it some flair." Esposito countered again.

This wasn't how she'd expected her morning to go, but Kate had to admit it was entertaining. And the best part was that Castle was annoying someone else for a change and she got to just sit by and watch, exactly what she knew Esposito was constantly doing when Castle was annoying her. Revenge is sweet.

Yes, that was the best part. Well, that and the fact that, without even knowing it, Castle was bringing levity to this incredibly dark situation. They were all standing around a body lying in the street (she never could completely separate street murders from the images of her mother in that alley), and unwittingly he was making it easier for her. Helping her focus on something other than the blood and how she wished the man lying there was only asleep, as he looked.

Kate never let any of her internal struggle show, she was a professional after all, but it was nice to have the distraction, though she'd never tell Castle that.

AN 2: So that's really short, but I hope you liked it! Please review!
