AN: I felt like watching more episodes, so I decided I might as well write more.
I love this episode because there's so much new jealousy for both Castle and Beckett. This particular scene was really fun to me. Hope you enjoy.
Please review (they make me so happy).
"Believe it or not, there's a lot of women in this town who like the idea of being romantically linked to me." Castle said as he dropped Number Three's picture on Kate's desk and walked away.
It was as close to an innocent comment as she ever heard from Castle. She should have been rejoicing in the fact that he was disproving rumors about the two of them, so why wasn't she? Why did this bother her? Because she was not, repeat not, jealous. But as she looked at Amanda Livingston's picture on her desk, she couldn't help but sigh.
She was annoyed, that was all. She was annoyed by the fact that Castle just had to bring his personal life into work with him. Well, that and the fact that he had obviously said something to make that reporter believe they were dating. She still wasn't over that yet. Yes, that was her problem; she was annoyed.
But how to remedy that annoyance was a whole new problem. She knew there was no way of getting Castle to stop talking about his dates at work, so she needed a different plan. Maybe what she needed was her own night out, something to help ease the frustration of having to listen to Castle blather on everyday. But how to find a dateā¦
"I have no life." Kate stated by way of greeting as she walked up to Lanie in the morgue. She knew Lanie would make this easier on her, so she got to the point before she could lose her nerve.
"No, Mr. Bishop has no life. That's why he's on my table." Lanie was trying to be cute, but Kate wasn't going to let her drag this out any more than necessary.
"I need a date." That finally got her attention.
"What?" Lanie asked, finally looked up from her work. When had it become commonplace to talk to her best friend over a dead body? Right, since they'd become friends over one. That was definitely not normal.
"A date, a guy, a, " Kate paused, not sure what to say next, "man?" A distraction from Castle, Kate thought, but knew better than to say aloud. Lanie was giving her the most peculiar look. Why was she making this so difficult?
"You're always trying to set me up with people, so here I am. I'm game." I'm annoyed. "What d'you got?"
"Okay," she said, still giving Kate a weird look. "What's gotten into you?"
Why did she have to ask so many questions? Usually Kate couldn't get her to shut up about how, if she wasn't going to do anything about Castle, she really needed to at least go out with somebody. And now Kate was trying to do just that, and she starts questioning everything?
"I get so wrapped up in work, all I want to do is go home where it's quiet. And I'm so tire of quiet. I want," to not be annoyed "loud." Lanie gave her a blank stare for a second, but then softened. Kate wondered exactly what she was thinking.
"Okay," she said, pulling out a notepad. "I have the perfect prescription for you." She wrote something down and handed the paper to Kate.
"A Braddecker?" Kate asked, thoroughly confused now.
"No no, baby. That's Brad Decker. That firefight I wanted to set you up with?" Kate remembered that conversation. Lanie had seemed quite enthusiastic about that one.
"Is he cute?" She asked, not sure that it really mattered much if he could make her less annoyed.
"He was Mr. July in last year's New York Firefighter's calendar." Lanie stated pointedly.
"July, huh?" He sounded like the perfect distraction. "They always put the really hot ones in the summer months." Kate was grinning. This had definitely been a good plan; she was already feeling less annoyed.
"Exactly." Lanie agreed, nodding.
AN2: Some shameless self promotion: I wrote how I think the end of this episode could have gone as a one-shot in my story The Fall. If you're interested in that, you can check it out on my profile, it's the second chapter.
