Chapter 13
A little while later, Tinkerbell hovered in the shadows of one of the branches of the Pixie Dust Tree. She peeked out from behind the cover into the spring below. Gold-colored pixie dust swirled around in the bowl-shaped pool, and several fairies flitted around the edge. Tinkerbell narrowed her eyes, scanning the area below. Was he even here?
"Ah ha" Tinkerbell hissed as she spotted Terence near the very edge of the pool, scooping pixie dust into a jar. Tinkerbell started to fly towards him, but stopped when she saw Fairy Gary heading towards him as well. She groaned, looking away, annoyed. How was she supposed to talk to Terence when he was never alone? Then she saw a light hovering nearby, a light that looked vary familiar.
"Blaze!" She hissed, and she saw a head bob up and glance around. Spotting Tinkerbell, the firefly squeaked happily and darted to her. "Yeah, I'm glad to see you too. Listen, can you get Terence to come over here?" Tinkerbell pointed to Terence. Blaze glanced from Terence to Tinkerbell, nodded, and flew out into the circle. Stepping back into the shadows, she watched the brave her friend shoot up to Terence and start buzzing and twittering in his face. She saw Terence laugh at Blaze's antics, then he slowly began to follow the firefly back.
"Blaze! What is the matter with you?" Terence laughed as he came close to where Tinkerbell was hiding.
"Terence!" Tinkerbell hissed. The dust-keeper froze, then glanced around. "Over here!" Terence glanced at the dark leaves.
"Tink?" He cocked his head. "Is that you?"
"Yeah, it's me" Tinkerbell hissed. "Look Terence I can't talk now, but could you do me a favor?"
"Sure, but what?" Terence looked puzzled.
"I need you to gather my friends and bring them to Vidia's house right now. Can you do that?"
"I suppose, but..." He suddenly frowned.
"Great, thanks" Tinkerbell flew off before Terence could finish, leaving the dust-talent fairy scratching his head.
A Few Minutes Later:
"Are you sure that Tink said to come here? Iridessa asked as Terence led her, Fawn, Rosetta, Silvermist, Clank, and Bobble to the tree that contained Vidia's house.
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure" Terence siad as they flew, "But it was all so fast I didn't have time to..."
"Look!" Fawn pointed towards Vidia's door. Tinkerbell was standing there, waving at them.
"Tink!" Everyone exclaimed, rushing up to her and started asking questions at once.
"What are you doing here?"
"How did you get out of prison?"
"What happened to your face?"
Tiinkerbell ran a finger over the left side of her face, tracing the line that ran across it.
"They said that you'd been attacked by Vidia!" Bobble exclaimed, staring at Tinkerbell with eyes that were wider than usual.
"You're not infected are you?" Clank shivered, and tried to hide behind Bobble.
Tinkerbell giggled. "No you guys, I'm completely fine" She assured everyone.
"You have a big ugly scar on your face and you say you're fine?" Rosetta stammered, her eyes wide with shock. This made everyone chuckle.
"It's not what you think Rosetta. I'm fine and so is Vidia"
"But she's a sprite!" Terence argued from the back of the group.
"It's not what you..." Tinkerbell started to explain, but a shout made them all jump.
"What are you all doing here?!" They spun around to see a Guardian Guild fairy hovering a few feet away. "You all shouldn't be so far from the Pixie Dust Tree" She said, her voice softening, scanning their faces. "I'll get you back to..." The fairy paused as she spotted Tinkerbell's face. "You!" She gasped darting backwards. "How did you get out?"
"Um...well" Tinkerbell was suddenly at a loss for words.
"Quick everyone! Get away from her!" The fairy raised her lantern high, brandishing it forward like a spear. Tinkerbell flinched at the light. It didn't hurt, but it was annoying.
"Hey! What's the big idea?" Terence darted between Tinkerbell and her black-garbed attacker.
"Don't you see? She's a..." The fairy argued, but suddenly there was a WHHOOSSHHHH and the lantern was knocked from the fairy's hands.
"What was that?" Fawn's head whipped around. The fairy whipper around too, her eyes full or fear. There was another rush and a purple blur zipped past her, missing her by inches. The fairy darted backwards, yelping.
"What's going on?" Rosetta shrieked as the blur zipped past them again. As if in response, a low growl tore through the air. A sudden gust of wind suddenly blew across them knocking the guild fairy to the ground.
"Are you okay?" Silvermist knelt down, extending her hand to the fairy, but as she took it, she glanced above her and her eyes widened and her face paled.
"What? What's wrong?" Silvermist asked. But the fairy didn't respond, just whimpered in fear and gazed up into the branches.
"What is she looking at?" Fawn asked, following the fairy's gaze. Her jaw dropped. "Vidia?!" She exclaimed. Everyone else looked up. Vidia was crouching in the branched, glaring at them with glowing purple eyes. Upon locking eyes with the, she hissed savagely, showing fangs.
Iridessa and Clank shrieked, Rosetta fainted, Fawn, Silvermist, Bobble, and Terence just stood there gaping as Vidia leapt from the brnach and dove towards them. They moved backwards as one as she landed in front of them. She hissed again and they cringed. The guild fairy shrieked and darted away, disappearing into the trees. Vidia made no move to follow her, but kept her eyes on the group, crouched on all fours like an animal, her wings semi-extended like a cape. For a few minutes, the only sound heard was Vidia's steady snake-like hissing and the occasional flutter of a wing.
"So, how'd I do?" Vidia suddenly asked, rising to her feet.
"Very good" Tinkerbell replied as shepushed her weay through her stunned friends. "That was very scary"
"Uh, Tink? What are you doing?" Iridessa asked, her voice quivering.
"Yeah, why are you talking to a sprite?" Fawn whispered fearfully.
Vidia snorted, a sly smile creeping over her face. "You guys, it's me" She said.
No one answered her. Clank and Bobble kept trying to edge behind the others. Silvermist was holding up Rosetta while Iridessa stood in front of all of them, a small sphere of light in her hand.
"It really is Vidia" Tinkerbell assured them.
"It doesn't look like her" Clank whispered to Bobble, but Vidia heard it.
"What was that?" Vidia snapped, and Clank cowed behind Bobble who's eyes were even wider than usual. Tinkerbell chuckled.
Eventually Fawn slowly came forward and flew in a slow circle around Vidia, examining her. Slowly, she reached out and pinched Vidias' grey skin.
"Ow!" Vidia snapped, rubbing her arm. "What was that for?
"Wow" Fawn's eyes looked like dinner plates. "Vidia, you look...amazing!" She exclaimed. Tinkerbell burst out laughing and Vidia smiled. One by one, the other fairies came forward, except Silvermist, who was helping the now awake Rosetta get to her feet.
"Okay, so you called us here to show us that Vidia's a sprite now?" Terence finally turned to Tinkerbell.
"Not exactly" Tinkerbell smiled.
