Chapter 7
"Visit To An Old Friend."
Seto drove back home, putting his ID in the system of the front door, pushing on the pedal till he reached the porch of his mansion. His face was grimaced, lots of emotions soared in his heart killing him. Once he opened the door, his eyes landed on Shizuka; a girl with long reddish hair and green eyes and he immediately remembered Anzu's talk about her feeling hate taking over him.
"Hey Seto." She greeted, smiling widely. But when she came to touch him, he pushed her away roughly, ignoring the pout she gave him.
"Leave me alone!" He muttered coldly.
"What happened Seto?" She worriedly asked, touching his forearm.
"Shut up and leave me alone you vile human!" He grunted, climbing the stairs to his bedroom. The lights were all off and the room was all painted in black. Taking his trench-coat off he rested on the bed, lightening up a cigarette.
"You were never in love with me!"
He extinguished the cigarette on the fancy maroon nightstand angrily, pushing his lips into his teeth.
Flashback:
"Anzu! Your hair is so beautiful!" Little Seto admired her long silky brown hair as they went into the yard of the orphanage. Lots of kids were playing around and making loud noises consisting of laughs and yells and fights.
Anzu blushed deeply as she lowered her gaze, playing nervously with her fingers. Mokuba and Seto laughed at her cute embarrassed face.
"Don't ever cut it Anzu, or Seto will never be in love with you!" Mokuba teased, laughing at the now two red tomato faces.
"Hey Moky stop teasing! It's not funny!" Seto scolded, shaking off the blush.
"It is big brother!" He replied, sticking out his tongue childishly.
Seto was agitated and followed his little brother in the yard while Anzu giggled at them.
End Of Flashback..
Seto sighed, resting his head against the headboard of the bed. It was true they were in the orphanage back there, but still they were happier. When did it all go wrong? He was supposed to start a new life when he was adopted. Be a rich and successful man, provide his brother with a good education and a better life, and then go back to bring Anzu to live with them. Hopefully marry her afterwards and have kids that have her beautiful eyes. But everything crushed and nothing remains but memory. Mokuba is dead and Anzu hates him thinking that he has a new girlfriend and forgotten about her.
"Yami you fucking son of a bitch! Everything happened because of you! Because you killed my brother! I'll make sure to make you pay dearly." He seethed, getting his cell phone out his pocket.
"Listen there fucking mortal, bring me every available info about Anzu Mazaki. I need it all on my office tonight!"
The guy on the other side answered. "Sure Mr. Kaiba." He hung up, cursing under his breath.
~...~
I buried my face in my pillow, crying from the depth of my broken heart. Ever since Jonouchi drove me home, I didn't utter a single word and headed to my bedroom, then sulked in the bed and cried. He was visiting the orphanage and he probably did it before, when I was there before I got adopted. How could he go there and make donations without even thinking of visiting me? He was oblivious to the fact that I was adopted so he knew that I was still inside. How could he be so cruel to even see a glimpse of my face. He never truly loved me! If he did, he wouldn't have neglected me all this time and had a new girl. He just needed a girl inside to have fun with and once he got out it was over. I'm such an idiot for believing him! You're an idiot Anzu!
~...~
In the dilapidated warehouse, Masato walked cautiously as he greeted the guards when he passed by them, heading to the room where Marik stayed with his personal guards.
When he reached the place and his eyes landed on Marik, he quickly bowed to him in respect. "Master Marik..."
Marik had a loop-sided smile, as he raised his brows in interest. "Yes? What is it?"
Swallowing hard, he licked his dry lips, trying to keep it straight and short. "Master, I watched the girl today. Her name is Anzu Mazaki and she went with Jonouchi Katsuya the Heartless's friend to visit the Domino Orphanage. She stayed there for less than ten minutes and got out crying."
"Hmm..interesting.." Marik mumbled. "So what was she doing there anyways?"
Masato felt so weak under his gaze and negated with his head. "I don't know Master." He timidly answered.
"You don't?" He checked, walking up to him with a smirk. Masato took a step back, shaking. However, Marik didn't wait to hear an answer since he grabbed him quickly spinning off his neck and ripping it, throwing the lifeless body away. The guards gulped.
"Such useless servants!" He said with irritation.
"Calm down, Master." A sly voice came from a close room, revealing a tall guy with a black hair held up in a ponytail, a couple of green eyes and a dice-shaped earrings on his right ear.
Marik blew out a breath. "Oh, you Ryuji."
"Forget about that useless Masato. I'll bring you all the infos you want about that Anzu girl. What exactly is she like anyways?"
Marik sneered in response. "It's a shame that I didn't get the pleasure of seeing her."
"No prob Marik, I have my ways." He said with confident, playing with his earrings.
"I don't need to remind you what will happen if you failed me." Marik threatened with a smirk earning a slight shake of head from Ryuji.
"No need to think of punishments since I'm positively bringing you the whole story soon." He said, turning on his heels to leave.
~...~
I felt so tired as I cried quietly in my room for the past hour. There were so many things I thought about his words. What happened and made him not come back? What did he mean by lots of things happened?
I heard the door crack, but cared the less to know who as I continued my crying fit.
"Anzu.." I heard Atem's voice and wondered why he was in my room. "Why are you crying?" He asked me with an emotionless face. I looked up at him, tears still cascading down my cheeks.
"Nothing." I answered, sniffing. Sure he didn't exactly buy my answer still giving me a weird look.
"Then shut up if there's nothing!" He muttered coldly and I grasped the pillow angrily, swallowing back an agitated yell. This person was getting on my nerves purposely and if he knew I was agitated he would feel as if he was an important thing to me, that's why ignoring seemed to be the best cure to his kind of people.
"Where were you today with Jono?" I tensed up at his question, then remembering the encounter with Seto I felt a needle stab my heart.
"Ask him." I suggested throwing my head again on the pillow. Atem walked to my side and sat on the bed facing me. He reached out, his hand wandering on my thigh making me tense up.
"Tell me." He quietly demanded.
"Please leave me alone, I don't want to do this now." I was heartbroken about everything and my eyes gleamed with sadness as I stared at him with begging eyes. He seemed to be lost in my eyes not making a single move for some seconds, as he drew his hand away from my body.
Silence lasted for some time, before I decided to break it with a question. "I wanna ask you something," he rose his eyebrow in response. "Shizuka Katsuya is Jono's sister right?" I couldn't mistake the surprise in his eyes and decided to not be so forward and get my Seto secret blown up. "Jono said she was but he never told me why she doesn't hang out with you. Is she not a vampire?"
I saw his eyes narrow as the surprised face disappeared. "She's not a vampire and on top of that she's a bitch and it's good we got rid of her!" I noted the disgruntled tone he spoke with and was puzzled.
"What do you mean by that? Did she hurt you?"
He smirked, reaching to touch my face. "Nobody hurts me Anzu, that girl turned her back on her own brother and betrayed us so she's a bitch for all I care about!" He mused on his own words, his hand smoothing my cheek idly. "It's a shame I can't read your mind and know where you were or what you're thinking about." I didn't care about his words one bit and I closed my eyes, leaning into his touch halfheartedly.
~...~
Atem left Anzu's room after she fell asleep going downstairs. He noted it was 11:00 PM and wondered if Jono did what he told him to do. He switched the TV on to the 11 news and crossed one leg over the other, siping from a blood bag he brought.
"Good evening and welcome to the 11 Pm news. We have an exclusive hour tonight to cover the death of Sugoroku Mutou the famous generous businessman that took place yesterday night. Sugoroku was an idol to the city and his grandchild Yami Mutou has exclusively supplied us with information about his heath condition. Apparently, he had cancer spread all over his body but he refused to let anyone know of this as he continued to help poor people and make his generous donations. Before he died, he had adopted a girl named Anzu Mazaki from Domino Orphanage and all his fortune turned to her and her boyfriend Yami Mutou. Japan has lost a great man that history won't ever repeat. We have people today that have met or been helped by Mr. Mutou and they will tell us about him."
The Tv was turned off suddenly and Atem without turning knew it was me as he smirked. "Have you no shame?" I spatted.
"I thought you were asleep Anzu." He ignored my question.
"How could you say such thing? Cancer! That's absurd!" I couldn't stifle back the anger that filled me and he only seemed amused by it. There I was breaking the mental promise I made about ignoring him.
"I compelled the news staff into making this report. His body is well rested in the coffin and everyone thinks he died out of cancer and no one will ask about him again. They'll just remember him the way they knew him; hero of Japan. End of story." He simply told me.
I bit my lips angrily clenching my fists. "What about your conscious?"
Atem chuckled. "It's well rested too in some coffin." He mocked.
"Why did you kill him?" I yelled losing my patience. "He was the greatest man I've ever met!" Tears started to brim over my face.
"He was a son of a bitch!" He snapped. I was taken back in surprise. He always seemed carefree and cool and this was one of the few times he answers me with this anger, well aside from the times I call his name.
"Ssshh! Don't talk like that of him!" He approached me, holding my chin up to look at him.
"Don't waste your tears on someone like him!" He advised and I sniffed back the tears staring with awe at him. Was he comforting me or something? I shrugged it off, breaking away of his grip.
"You can't be a half human or even a quarter. You're a monster!" I uttered every single word like poison glaring at him. It seemed that my anger should physically burn him to death but it didn't. He just shrugged slightly, turning on the Tv again to complete the news forgetting about my whole existence. God, this person was sucking away my life with his coldness.
Seto was watching the news in his room and had a shocked expression all over his face. Sugoroku adopted Anzu? And he died and now she's Yami's girlfriend?! Why was she even scolding him then if she also had a new boyfriend? Were he and Blood talking about this thing the other day? The orphanage girl right? It all makes sense now. That fucking Yami has stolen the last important thing he had away from him. Seto ate his lips in anger throwing the remote control away.
~...~
"Hey there hun!" Mai cheerfully greeted, drawing the chair to sit opposite of me. She had called me in the morning telling me that she wanted to see me in a café near downtown.
"Hey." I retorded tiredly, my chin resting on my palm idly.
"What's wrong Anzu?" She asked with a worried tone.
I sighed in response. "Guess who I ran into yesterday?"
She tapped on her chin thoughtfully, "I would guess it's Ai considering that you went to the orphanage." She ended with a smile.
"Not even close." I shook my head. "I saw Seto."
I watched as her expression turn into a surprised one, her soft amethyst eyes almost popping out. "No way!"
I blew out a breath, stirring the milkshake I had with the straw. My mind wandering back on our fight yesterday. "We had a fight. He said that lots of things happened that's why he couldn't come back." I explained with a half convinced tone.
"Such a liar! He has billions. What could have happened to him? Plus, what about Shizuka why did he start a relationship with her if he was truly in love with you?" She asked skeptically.
"I know, I've asked him but he said I wouldn't understand." By the time I finished this, I grew in tears.
Scoffing, she took the menu, skimming through the beverages section. "Forget about him Anzu, he's not worthy of your tears. He was never in love with you." Mai said the obvious, and the thing that my mind has been telling me since yesterday. But was it enough for me to let go of him? Sure not.
"But I still love him." I persisted stupidly earning a sigh from Mai.
"That's why I told you once that there's no such thing as love. It's always one-sided and hurtful. Just find a guy to give you money and satisfy your pleasures that Yami person seems great for the job." She casually said, ordering a strawberry shake. I couldn't believe the way she thought of love. I agreed with her that love was hurtful most of the time, but her way of living made me feel like a slut. Still, I couldn't hurt her and say that in her face.
"Why did you let me come here anyways?" I asked trying to start up with another subject.
"Just wait for couple of minutes, he usually is on time." She slyly smiled, siping from her drink that presently arrived as I waited the thing carelessly.
"Mind if I joined you pretty ladies?" A strange voice came from behind me and I looked back seeing a guy in black leather pants, red jacket, long hair in a ponytail and a pair of green eyes. He had earrings and his hand rested in his pocket casually.
"Otogi sure not, please have a seat!" Mai cooed. I gave her a weird look and she answered with a giggle, presenting him. "Anzu, this is Ryuji Otogi my cousin that adopted me! This is Anzu Mazaki, my friend." I smiled extending my hand for him to shake when I noticed his eyes grew wider and his lips pursed. He then shook off from whatever was he wrapped in and grinned.
"Nice to meet you, Anzu." He said, shaking my hand. So this is Anzu, what kind of a twisted coincidence is this? She is just a hottie to waste! He thought.
Sitting next to me, he flashed me a sexy smile making me flush. "Such a pretty girl you are."
I smiled embarrassedly, unable to think of a response. "I'm glad to meet the person that I have always had a grudge on!" I cursed myself at the stupid answer I said as he and Mai gave me surprised looks.
"Why is that?" he asked me.
"Well, Mai was always my only friend in the orphanage and you kind of took her away from me!" I explained. The two laughed at me as Ryuji rubbed his earring.
"Sorry babe, if I knew she had a pretty girl like you, I would have definitely got you out instead!"
"Ryuji!" Mai scolded and we laughed.
Ryuji told me about having an arcade near Shinjuku and was making decent amount of money. He said that he was famous considering to have invented a new game that had such popularity in town. He was a good person and a very funny guy as well as good-looking and popular with the ladies. Mai had an evil little smirk the entire time and I felt uneasy knowing how Mai could be such a naughty.
"What happened with Ai then?" Mai inquired.
"I could help if you tell me what's the matter?" Ryuji offered with a gentle smile.
"Um, there's a little girl in the orphanage that was like a daughter to us and we are trying to adopt her." I explained.
"Hmm..." He thought. "Considering she's still underaged we need to provide them with some information about your finance position."
"She inherited lots of money from Sugoroku before he died!" I rolled my eyes at Mai's words. But I nodded to Otogi anyways.
"Okay that's good. I'll help you with everything Anzu, don't worry." He assured. I was so happy having such a good friend and I felt like I could hug him now but instead I gave him a wholehearted smile.
"Thank you. Really!" I gasped out.
~...~
It was later at night when Jonouchi drove Anzu home before he headed to his house. He had the voice turned up at a specific song that brought lots of memories for him. He patted on the steering wheel singing with the lyrics.
Flashback.
"Hey there little sis!" He said, walking home seeing his sister calling someone on the phone.
"Hey." She retorted with a sigh.
"What's wrong Shizuka?" He asked her getting worried.
"I tried to call Atem to apologize to him for yesterday but he didn't answer." She pouted, resting her head on her palms.
Sighing, Jono sat beside her on the table patting her back. "It's okay sis. You did something really bad to him yesterday."
"Jonouchi it's not fair I love him! He should be in love with me not Anzu! I know she's a great girl and all but I saw him first!" She insisted, placing her head on her brother's shoulder.
"Sis, you're still so young. You'll find the man of your dreams soon enough. But keep Atem and Anzu out your head please!" He begged her, raising his eyebrow at her pursed lips.
"I can't promise you Jono. Atem is mine and I'm sure he'll leave Anzu and stay with me!" She giggled to herself taking the phone again. "I'll call him again!" She pushed the numbers dialing Atem's phone with a childish smile. Jono slumped his back on the chair tiredly, shaking his head at her.
End of flashback.
Jonouchi had tears in his eyes thinking of his sister. She was always in love with his friend since the very first time she saw him. But he had always been in love with Anzu and Shizuka hurt them both so much. He hit the steering wheel turning off the radio angrily. He almost hit a passing car and cursed the driver, speeding up to 180 km. It's been years with her away from him and still he couldn't get her out of his head. Heck, she was his only sister and now she's with Kaiba; the worst man he could ever think of. After a few minutes of driving like crazy, he pulled over with a loud sound in front of an elegant mansion.
Getting out, he pushed the door closed almost breaking it. He hadn't came here for years and now he felt like home. He didn't know if his friend was going to let him in or not, but he needed to lift the sadness he felt off his chest and Yami was never the one you could talk with about your problems, especially if it was Shizuka's subject whom he despised.
Ringing the bell, he waited on the doorstep deciding to enter the house decently and not vampire way. Hearing footsteps coming towards the door, he smiled secretly wondering how his old friend looked like now. What if he left this house? He suddenly thought of that probability but it was proved wrong when a guy with brown, pointed hair from the front opened the door.
"Jonouchi!?" He asked in awe.
"Hey Honda!" Jonouchi let a big smile, reaching his hand out for a friendly salute. Honda stared at him with surprise before he grumbled.
"Is he with you?" Jonouchi negated with his head and Honda sighed, stepping out the way to let him in.
"Come on in." He whispered.
The chapter is finished. Things are being revealed but little by little and it's gonna take couple of more chapters for the mysteries to be uncovered. So please stay tuned. ;)
