Chapter 6
(Time skip to Shinra's house)
Shizuo knocked on the door and Shinra answered the door with a smile. "Shizuo! Nice to see you again, not harmed or bleeding." Shizuo just rolled his eyes.
"Yeah, I need you to help this gu-" Shizuo was cut off when Alfred glomped the doctor.
"SHINRA?!" Alfred yelled, as he hugged the brunette.
"Alfred? What are you doing in Japan?" Shinra hugged the American back and laughed softly.
Shizuo, Arthur, Ludwig and Kiku stared at the two talking animatedly with each other as if they knew each other for years. Then Arthur, Ludwig and Shizuo yelled at the two, "HOW THE HELL DO YOU KNOW HIM?!" Alfred got off off Shinra and laughed.
"Dude, I met this guy when he visited my-..uh... America for that one summer for an exchange program." Alfred stated, laughing awkwardly.
"It's true. I never thought I'd see you again, Alfred. You haven't aged a bit." Shinra said as he herded everyone inside the apartment. "Not a single bit.." Shinra stated lowly, closed the front door behind them. The reflection over his glasses hid his eyes as he looked back at them.
"Shinra, you okay?" Alfred turned back to the doctor, almost missing the look dull look before the brunette smiled.
"Yeah. Just thinking to myself." Shinra passed by Alfred, looking at him from the corner of his eye before going to set up his medical equipment in the other room.
"Yo, Celty." Shizuo waved to Celty, who was sitting on the couch with her helmet on, and followed Shinra to his 'work' space. Shizuo set down the other blonde on the bed and walked back outside to the others.
"Does anyone want some tea?" Celty typed and showed them. Arthur, Kiku, and Alfred stared at the PDA in confusion.
"She's mute, her name's Celty Sturluson." Shizuo covered for his friend, standing up. "I'll get the tea." The other four watched his back as he left the room then they glanced at each other.
"So what kind of person do you think Shizuo is?" Celty asked typing out the words, her fingers twitching as if she was nervous about the answer.
"He seems like an okay kind of dude." Alfred stated taking off his glasses to clean them. "We just met him, So I don't know much about him." Celty nodded and turned toward Arthur and Kiku.
"I agree with Alfred, but there's something I can't pin point. There's something about that man..." Arthur said shrugging and Celty tilted her helmet to the side.
"Heiwajima-san, seems like a nice man when he isn't mad." Kiku said looking down at his hands instead of anyone else.
Celty typed on her PDA and showed it to them, "Shizuo's actually a nice person on the inside, he just has a temper. He's good to have as a friend."
"What're you guys talking about?" Shizuo walked back into the room with 5 cups on a tray and set it down on the table taking the cup with milk in it. "Oh yeah, your almost out of tea leaves, Celty. Oh, and milk. Sorry about that. I'll pick some up for you guys later." He stated looking out the window. Celty nodded and stood up.
"I have a job to do. I'll be back later, if you all will still be here. If not, It was nice to meet you all." Celty held out the PDA and she stood up.
"It was to meet you, Celty!" Alfred waved at her, where he sat.
Japan stood up and bowed. "Have a safe trip, Celty-san."
"It was a pleasure to meet you, Celty." Arthur stood up and held out a hand. Celty nodded and reached out to shake his hand back. When the two hands met, images flashed in Celty's subconscious and she froze where she stood. Images that seemed so familiar and close to her, yet seemed so far away. Like memories hidden away from her, of a distant life that she once knew all too well. Yet this memory, was different somehow. It felt to her; calm, maybe even relaxing.
(in Celty's memory)
I could see the fields, the fields of green grass I usually saw in my memories when I tried to remember them. But this time instead of bathing people in blood or visiting the soon to die, I was sitting in the field my horse laying close-by. I didn't understand why I was just sitting there but I looked down and my head was with me.
"Why do you do it anyway, Celty? Bathing people in blood." a voice said from my left.
"If she doesn't want to answer don't force her, Mint." Arthur? How is he here? Most of my memories are more than 17 years old. I feel my shoulders shake as if I was laughing. "I know Ireland's been moody lately."
"It's okay, Arthur. He's just curious." I hear myself say. "I'll tell you next time, Mints."
"Aw.." I looked to the left and Arthur was sitting there in old English clothes, well I think because his face is all blurry and there's something green flying near his head. "Okay, Celty..."
The three of us were quiet for a while, the black dress I wore pooled around where I sat. I kept wondering to myself: Why is Arthur here? Is this one of my old memories from way back when? Then how? Who is he to me?
The sky turned darker as the moon passed over the sun.
"Celty, are you alright...?" The voice echoed in my mind and the memory was over just like that.
(End of her memory)
"Celty, are you alright?" Arthur asked waving his hand in-front of her helmet. Celty shook her helmet and quickly typed on her PDA.
"Arthur, do I know you from somewhere?" She asked hoping he would say yes.
"No, I believe not." Arthur stated and her shoulders sagged. "Sorry, I couldn't be to your assistance. Although, I might have known you. I am not quite sure myself."
"Okay, nevermind then." She typed and showed him then erased the message and typed another one. "Goodbye, everyone." She showed it to everyone then walked out the room.
"Bye Celty." Shizuo looked straight at her helmet. "Be careful, okay. You never know what that louse could be planning." Celty nodded and walked out the door and got her bike.
"What's she gonna go do?" Alfred asked sipping his drink.
"Celty's a porter, she's probably going to deliver a package or something." Shinra said walking into the room wiping his hands in a towel. Arthur, Alfred, and Kiku stared at the towel and saw the blood stains.
"How's the man?" Shizuo said sitting on the couch where Celty was sitting.
"Hm? Oh, Ludwig? He's doing just fine." Shinra said smiling. From behind him, Ludwig walked out of the room looking like he was going to kill someone.
"Shinra...What did you do to him?" Alfred said freaking out as he looked between the doctor and the personification of Germany.
"I didn't do anything..!" Shinra said hiding behind Shizuo as the angry German walked over to them.
"Give it back!" Ludwig stated his voice lower than normal, glaring at the underground doctor.
"Shinra, did you take something from the guy?" Shizuo asked turning his head and tried to look at the doctor without turning his back to the blonde German.
"No...Well yes, but I only had to take his shirt and necklace because of the blood stains and the necklace would have gotten in the way when I was stitching him up. Plus he has to stay here for the next few days so I can make sure he doesn't mess up his stitches, so I told him I'd give it back when he's all healed. You know I hate it when you open your stitches. I don't want two people to come back here needing restitching." Shinra said all in one breathe as Ludwig calmed down, sat on the couch and put on a shirt Shinra left on the side for him.
Shizuo looked at Shinra with a disapproving face. "Give the guy his damn necklace, Shinra." He stated taking his purple sunglasses off.
"Oh that wasn't the only reason I kept the necklace. I wanted to show it you too." Shinra took the black and white cross necklace from his pocket. "Look familiar?"
One minute Shizuo was standing in front of Shinra, the next he was holding Ludwig up by the collar of his shirt. "Where. Did. You. Get. That. Necklace?" Shizuo growled out.
Ludwig was surprised for a second but stood there not posing a fight. "My bruder gave it to me."
"Well, who's your brother?" Shizuo asked, his eyes madder than any other time he got mad at Izaya.
Ludwig's were shadowed by his hair since he didn't fix his hair yet. "Gilbert Beilschmidt." He deadpanned.
Shizuo let go of Ludwig slowly and he lowered his head. His head was facing the ground as he took a step back. Shinra looked at his friend with a knowing gaze and shook his head. With his right hand Shizuo, held his necklace through his bartender suit, his other hand was clenched in a fist. The personifications stared at Shizuo's reaction.
"W-what...Does he look like?" Shizuo's voice was breaking, he kept it in but the tears were about to over flow from his eyes.
"He's albino, red-eyes, and he had white hair." Ludwig stated. Shizuo's eyes widened and he looked up from the ground. "We saw him earlier, he has black hair now. I think." Shizuo clenched his hand tighter and tighter with each word the man in front of him said.
"No..." Shizuo whispered. Everyone stared at him with confused faces. "It's...a lie. You didn't."
Shinra put a hand on Shizuo's shoulder, "Shizuo, calm down." Shizuo glared at the doctor.
"Don't tell me to calm down." He growled. Shizuo was breathing hard already, he didn't want to believe a word the slightly shorter blonde told him. " I...I need to be alone!" Shizuo yelled then ran out of the apartment, slamming the door behind him. Alfred, Arthur and Kiku sat there shocked staring at the door, as if it were going to fall off any second .. Shinra threw the necklace at Ludwig, who caught it easily.
"Shizuo knew mein bruder?" Ludwig mumbled to himself, but shook his head. "Probably, coincidence."
"Y'know. I think that's the maddest I've seen Shizuo without him blowing up." Shinra stated and everyone in the room looked at him. "I heard from Izaya that Shizuo had a godfather who took care of him when he was really young. When I asked Shizuo about the guy, he threw a fit and tried to kill me with his hospital bed, which ended up with Shizuo getting his stitches re-done and me having a large bump on my head." Shinra laughed falsely, "Once when I was stitching up some bullet holes on Shizuo, I saw his necklace. It's just like yours, but his could open up. Shizuo was drugged when I saw it so he probably doesn't know I knew about it. I guess it was a secret that he had kept or something." Shinra looked Ludwig in the eye. "Go after him. When Shizuo get's moody, he walks around town. When he get's sad, he visit's his godfather's grave. It'd be best you follow him." Shinra stated sitting on the couch as Ludwig, Kiku, Alfred and Arthur stood up.
"Thank you." Ludwig said turning back to the underground doctor. The blonde bowed slightly and walked out the door.
"Bye, Shinra!" Alfred waved and the shut the door behind him.
"Oh. Don't thank me. Because I'm not doing you any good." Shinra stated lowly, as he stood up and went back to the room he'd been operating on Ludwig. He opened up a shelf and took out a 4 inch vile filled with the red blood. "As I thought..." Shinra whispered to himself as he looked at the blood, a dark glint in his eyes.
(Meanwhile)
Shizuo walked a few blocks down not noticing that people were following him. He walked into a grocery store and bought 12 white roses, a single red rose and a pudding Shizuo walked the way to the cemetery and walked down to his Godfather's grave. Ludwig, Arthur, Alfred and Kiku hid behind the wall of the mortuary and watched the blonde.
Shizuo replaced the dying single white rose from the vase ,that he left a few day earlier with water and other roses that were missing, and replaced them with the new ones. He then put the pudding cup next to the grave and smiled a little to himself. He picked up the empty pudding cup and threw it in a nearby trash can with the dead flowers. He then sat down next to the grave and started to talk to the tombstone.
"Dudes, I think he's like England...crazy." America whispered and Arthur hit him on the head.
"Shut it. He's saying something. And I'm not crazy, you ungrateful git!" Arthur whispered back.
"Pate (godfather), I met new people today. Tch, I don't know why they would want to make me mad like that. I'm sorry, mom and dad don't come by often anymore. Do they? I can't even remember the last time I saw mom. We had lots of fun back then. Didn't we? Oh, I'm glad you ate the pudding I left you. I remember back then just barely," Shizuo laughed a small bitter laugh. "I didn't know much then and I don't know much now. Gosh I'm a dumbass. I know only dumbasses call others dumbasses, but since I know I'm a dumbass I'll say it anyway. But your a-" He took in a deep breathe. "Dumbass, dumbass, dumbass too!" He brought his knees up to his chest and sighed. "I wish you were here right now, Uncle..." Shizuo leaned with his back to the side of the tombstone and fell asleep. A single tear fell from a closed golden brown eye.
The four just stared, until Ludwig stood up and walked over to the tombstone where Shizuo was. He patted Shizuo's head and then read the tombstone:
A memorial for a
beloved friend and godfather:
Gilbert Beilschmidt
Für immer geliebt und umsorgt.
"Forever loved and cherished."
Ludwig stared at Shizuo's changing expression. He then sighed, it was getting dark and they couldn't just leave him there. He picked up Shizuo and carried the man piggyback to the others.
"Let's go back to Shinra's." Ludwig said and the other's followed quietly.
As the group walked away, two shadowed figures stepped out from behind a tree.
"You could step out from behind that memorial, Beilschmidt. Or should I say Orihara." the taller figure said smiling and extending an uninviting hand out.
About two rows behind Gilbert Beilschmidt's tombstone, the black haired informant stepped out of the shadow of a tall memorial. His hands in the pockets of his precious jacket, his hood on and his red eyes shined in the falling sunlight, a hard monotone look on his face.
(Meanwhile)
"Welcome back. You guys can stay in the guest rooms. When you see a room with the door torn off you can drop Shizuo off there, Ludwig." Shinra stated happily, then drank from his coffee cup. "I'll explain in the morning."
Ludwig dropped off Shizuo as everyone else went to their rooms. Shizuo was smiling in his sleep and started to mumble. "I'm...sorry...sorry.."Ludwig watched the blonde with a serious face.
'Where have I met this man before?' He thought to himself silently. He remembered a child he met along time ago with the name Shizuo but it probably wasn't the same person. The child had brown hair. He shrugged the thought off and fell asleep on the chair next to Shizuo's bed, wondering where he met the man before.
(Flashback)
Ludwig, Kiku, and Feliciano were walking from the World Meeting in Japan to their hotel. The meeting had just finished and the three were worn out. The sun was setting in the distance over the tall buildings, the sky was already shifting from the blue to an orange and red hue.
"-and America needs to understand that he can't eat at the meetings." Germany stated pinching the bridge of his nose to The three had been talking about what had gone absolutely wrong during the meeting earlier in the afternoon.
"Excuse me, mister."A small brunette child had ran up to the blonde German and tugged on the sleeve of his suit. The child couldn't older than two years old. The three stopped and looked at the small child.
"Ja? (Yes?)" Ludwig knelt down in-front of the young child as Kiku and Feliciano looked around for the child's parents.
"Do you know my Pate, Mister?" The child asked, smiling happily. Ludwig's eyebrow rose slightly when he heard the small child say the German word for God father.
"Who's your Patenonkel(Godfather), little one?"
(Back to Izaya)
"What do you want, Ivan...Lars?" Izaya responded not commenting on the last part of Ivan's invite.
"Hm? Nothing. Just you have to come back with us, comrade." Russia stated his smile getting bigger by the second.
"We need to get back soon. Everyone else is back in the hotel." Netherlands stated closing his phone. "Either you come with us or we'll force you."
"Right to the point are we." Izaya said smiling behind his hood. "Hm...I guess. I choose the latter." He jumped before Lars could shoot his leg.
"Dammit, stay still." He kept shooting at the man, who in turn kept dodging everything and then turned around and started running down the path dodging bullet after bullet that the pissed off dirty blonde shot at him.
Lars looked back at Ivan who was standing there with the same sickly smile on his face. "What are you doing? Aren't you going to help me catch him?"
Ivan looked him straight in the eyes and said, "We'll never catch him like this." The taller man smiled once more and walked in the other direction. "We'll just get him next time, comrade. It's getting dark and your bunny is getting scared." He added.
Lars looked at his shoulder where his bunny was shaking a little, he picked the bunny off his shoulder and carried the scared little thing then started to walk after the smiling Russian. "Remind me, why am I even walking with you?" The Dutch man stated lowly, taking his pipe out of his jacket.
Ivan turned and smiled. "Because your little sister was worried for the Prussian. And I jest happened to be looking for him anyway. So I suggested you come with me." The smile turned a bit forced. "We are comrades, are we not?"
"Whatever you say, big guy. I'm getting paid for bringing the Prussian back." Lars stated as they started to walk away from the graveyard. "How I bring him back shouldn't matter."
Izaya stares at their backs and looked back at the tombstone. He walk right to the tombstone and picked up the pudding cup.
"...I'll always be here..." He sat on top of the tombstone and looked down at the spot Shizuo was sleeping at before. He reached into his pocket and took out a cross necklace. "...Because, I wanted to be the perfect godfather..." He put the necklace on his neck and then ate the pudding cup. He smiled up at the sky, until a tear slid down his cheek. He looked back down at the ground as tears flooded his eyes. Something always felt missing in his life. After awhile he stopped crying and wiped his eyes. He stood up and put the empty pudding cup back. He looked at the flowers and laughed a little to himself. It was like Shizuo to give him a single red rose within a dozen white roses. He took the red rose and hid it inside his coat. Izaya then took off his necklace and placed it back inside his pocket. He stood up and took his hood off. He had already re-inked his hair. His true blood red eyes shone brightly in the darkness. He sighed and tugged back on his hood, the man smiled and walked away singing Prussia's anthem. Not noticing when another dropped out of the tree that Netherlands and Russia had been hiding behind.
The person kneeled down at the grave a took one of the white roses, smiling a wide clear smile and smelling the rose. A small bird chirped nearby, and the figure laughed loudly.
