A/N – I know that I'm probably the worst person in the world at updating and everyone keeps complaining about it but in my defense when I finally did update, there wasn't many reviews so I can't even be sure that anyone actually read it :/. I probably won't update often because I've gone back to school now and being the nerd that I am spend half my life studying but I'll try and leave spare time on the weekends for this. Enjoy ty
BECCA POV
When Becca was young, her father took her on a mine tour. Being underground, around all the dirt and rocks was something that Becca craved. Until a she met Chris, she never understood why. While she was on the tour, the tour guide told everyone to turn off their lights. This was so that they could experience complete darkness. Complete darkness was different from normal darkness, no matter how hard she tried to convince herself, her brain was telling her that her eyes were closed. Tough she knew they weren't. It was the first time she'd been in complete darkness and now was the second.
Black. That's all she could see. She remembered being stabbed by the knife, how could she forget that searing pain, but she couldn't feel anything anymore. She couldn't move, see, hear, feel. There was nothing, until suddenly all there was, was light. There was so much light that she still couldn't see anything it was too blinding. It only lasted a second before she was in the hotel room her and Chris stayed in just a few nights ago.
She looked around and saw the twins and Michael sitting on their beds, Quinn leant up against Nick's shoulder with tears streaming from her face. The boys' faces were emotionless, like they were still processing something. Becca turned to see Chris, and herself, and gasped in shock. How could she be lying on the couch if she was standing right here? She walked over to Chris and noticed the tears, he looked like he was in pain but Becca wasn't sure why. She looked at herself lying on the couch and remembered why he would be crying.
She had been stabbed, she was dead and now here she was, a ghost or something.
"Chris!" she yelled, "I'm right here! Please see me!"
"He can't hear you," said a voice.
Becca turned to see someone part of her never wanted to see again. Kate Sullivan.
"What are you doing here?" she asked Kate in a hushed tone.
"I'm dead remember, just like you now," she said with a sympathetic smile.
"Why am I here? Can I talk to Chris?"
"I'm not really sure exactly how all of this works. But I remember being told that you can't see your body after you die. I mean you can see everything else, everyone else can see the body, but not you. You're just stuck," Kate informed her, "but I saw you, looking at your body. You can see it can't you?"
Becca looked down at herself again. She nodded slowly.
"That means you can go back, it means you have unfinished business," Kate said sadly, like she envied Becca immensely.
"What do you mean unfinished business? We saved Quinn, what else could be my responsibility that someone else can't do?"
"You have no idea what you are do you?" Kate said with a curious glance.
"What are you talking about?"
"Becca… You're not a fifth. You're a Ruler."
"A Ruler? What's that's supposed to mean?"
"A Ruler is very much like a fifth, but they only occur every fifth generation of fifths, they used to be really common but these days the fifth gene isn't passed down the offspring so much so it never really makes it to the fifth generation. I'm surprised that your father doesn't know this."
"What's so special about a Ruler?"
"They're very powerful, when trained properly you can do anything. Raise the dead, kill with one glance, crazy things like that. I assume it's why you can go back, there's something that needs to be done and only a Ruler can do it."
"How do I go back?" Becca wondered out loud.
"Just close your eyes think about your life, and how much you want it," Kate hesitated before continuing, "Becca… can you not tell Hunter you saw me? I've been watching him and I don't think that bringing me up again will be such a great idea, he's already mourned enough."
Becca looked up at her and gave her a small smile, "I won't say anything,"
Then she closed her eyes and concentrated. She thought about Quinn, her best friend. The one who she can count on to help with her normal problems. Like when Chris and her have an argument or she when she doesn't know what to wear. Quinn is always there for her and Becca has never been more grateful than now when she's being given a second chance at life.
She thought about her parents, and Hunter. They would always there to protect her no matter what. The same with Michael, Gabriel and Nick. She felt safe with them and wanted nothing more than to be with them again, to help protect them the way they have protected her for so long.
Lastly she thought about Chris. She thought about the time they were sitting on her front porch, when they shared their first kiss. She thought about the time he bought her flowers when she didn't come to school because she didn't feel well. She thought about how he made love to her the other night, and how he always made her feel like the most special girl in the world. She thought about his smile and his ability to cheer her up with one word. She thought about how much she loved him.
Becca sat up suddenly from the couch with a sharp intake of air.
