It's been too long since I've updated.

"We need to go on an official date." Scene tells her boyfriend over the phone. Intern 2 chuckles, and she's glad she can just hear his voice while the two are on lunch breaks but not together.
"I'm working on something." He says.
"What?" Scene asks.
"Just something. You'll see tonight, okay?" He says.
"M'kay, something fancy?"
"Mm...semi-formal." His response makes Scene even more curious as to what they could be doing. But he tells her after that he needs to get back to his company, so they finish the phone call, and she walks out of the back. Without wanting to wear her old car out even more, she usually hangs out at the print shop during her lunch. The place is empty, as it usually is on Friday, so Alfred is sitting on the counter, cross-legged and texting someone.
"Who ya texting?" Scene asks, hopping up to join him. Even being twenty-four and twenty-six respectively, the pair find themselves as comfortable sitting anywhere as a pair of teenagers.
"Trisha; she's picking up a load of ink." He says, then sets his phone next to himself. Scene feels a small burst of happiness about her coworker returning to work after being sick. "But anyway, how are things with Melvin?"
"Amazing." Scene sighs, kicking her legs lightly. Alfred chuckles quietly. "What?" Scene asks playfully.
"You two are just complete opposites." He says. Although he says it kindly, Norma frowns slightly. "But you know, puzzle pieces don't fit together if they're both flat squares." She smiles again. She opens her mouth to make commentary, but the familiar bell jingles and the pair of friends hop down and tend to their work. But Scene lets Alfred be the helpful employee as she smiles to herself about what he's helped her realize.
She's found her puzzle piece.
A cool breeze blows through the couple as they walk through the park, the moon the only light seperate from the dim street lights. Norma finds it lovely holding hands with Melvin, but knows that he has more planned. He wouldn't have that sly smirk on his face for nothing. But he just sits her on a bench.
"You look charming." He says. Scene glances down at her black but glittering dress, which comes down just above her knees. She looks back up at Intern 2, who is smiling at her.
"Thank you, you do as well." Scene says. Intern 2 opens his mouth- presumably to say the same and thank her-when his phone goes off. He glances at it quickly to turn it off.
"Sorry. Shall we keep walking?" He says, standing. He takes her by the hand, and they walk for a few minutes, making small chat, until her eyes fall on a gorgeous sight. A gazebo- one she has seen before countless times while walking in the park, but it is now adorned with white tree lights strung about, a small cake and stereo on a stand in the center, and a sign that reads; "WELCOME TO PROM". Norma lets out a small gasp, and Intern 2 walks slightly in front of her, smiling as he turns back to her.
"You told me you never went to prom in high school," Melvin explains. "So Alfred and I set this up." Norma notices finally Alfred, standing off to the side.
"You two did this?" She asks. Alfred nods. Scene looks back at Intern 2, who has his phone out. It displays a text message from several minutes ago from Alfred that says; "It's ready."
"Oh my gosh, Melvin." She says, hugging him.
"Now, my dear," He replies. "Would you like to dance?"
"I would love to."
Norma hardly regrets that she lost track of time. Alfred left shortly after the couple started dancing, and she can't see any way the night could get more perfect. Intern 2 cuts them each a slice of the cake, Intern 2 getting the P from the word PROM, Scene the R.
"Oh my goodness!" She squeaks after taking a bite. "Ice cream filling?!" Melvin nods, unable to answer with a giant bite of cake and ice cream in his mouth. Scene happily continues eating, and when the pair are finished, they sit on the steps under the gazebo talking.
"This was perfect." She tells him, leaning her head on his shoulder.
"Nothing but the best for you." He laughs softly. Scene feels something- guilt? -turn in her stomach. Like she shouldn't be accepting so much from Melvin. She knows he has no problems with it, but it doesn't feel right to her to let someone treat her so kindly when she has done nothing to deserve it.
"You alright?" Melvin asks. She nods, and feels her face get hot as she realizes she is reverting back to the way she used to feel; about settling, about what she deserves to receive. And somehow his soft and loving gaze towards her doesn't make her feel better.
"Actually, I'm a little chilly." She says.
"Well, we can go home if you'd like." He says. She nods; maybe she'll feel better in the comfort of her apartment. Intern 2 stands, her following just after. "Alright, let me just grab the lights." He unhooks the strings of lights and takes them down, and Norma picks up the cake. After a moment Intern 2 gets the stereo, and they start back to the car.
