Alex...explain to me one more time...why are we boarding a flight to Texas?" Asked Derek as he sat down in the seat of the plane next to me, I sat next to twilight who was once again... A bit nervous about getting on a plane.
"I told you... I think I know where the next gateway is." I said.
"Yeah... Back home, you've said over and over... You can't possibly mean your house back in Arizona... That place has become a radioactive wasteland; they've cleared it out and built a wall around it... You've seen it..."
"There are military checkpoints built along the gates of the wall. Perhaps we can strike a deal with the general again and he'll take us back into Los Angeles or something... I don't know... What I do know is that I'm absolutely certain that it's there." I said.
"Alex... You've been acting rather strange ever since you woke up this morning, even then I could hear you saying strange things in your sleep last night." Said twilight sitting down next to me.
"You heard me?" I asked.
"I woke up to get some water and I could hear you through the door... It sounded like you were having a terrible nightmare." She said.
"Well... It was something along the lines of that." I said. "Listen... You guys just have to trust me on this one..." I said.
"I trust you Alex..." Said twilight placing her hand on mine and smiling.
"Well... We don't have any better leads... And it beats digging around the libraries for something that probably isn't even there... Might as well." Said Derek. Soon enough the plane had taken off and we were well on our twelve hour flight to Huston Texas. The part of Texas that had been bordering Arizona was now walled off and had become a military base to keep the area quarantined. It's going to take us a while to get from Huston to the Texas military base, but with the clearance that the general gave us, we should be able to waltz right in without trouble. The only hard part is finding a way to get there. I assume most people want too stay away from something like that, so hiring taxis or hitchhiking might not be a viable plan.
It had already been eight hours into the flight and we were above Louisiana now, there was still four hours before we land in Huston. We took a mid day flight and now its night time. The time on my watch read 11:36. Derek was sleeping next to me and twilight was as well, she had the window seat and was leaning over in the seat and resting her head on my shoulder. She slept soundly and her chest bobbed slowly with every gentle breath she took. I was tired too, but it have a hard time falling asleep on transportation. I can't usually sleep unless I'm lying down, doesn't matter if it's a bed or not, I can easily fall asleep if I'm just lying down. I closed my eyes just to try and rest, but it was no use. There wasn't anything to keep me occupied. They had shown an in tight movie not so long ago, but since its night they're letting to people sleep... So I don't have anything to do but keep to my own thoughts.
Other people who weren't sleeping were either reading a book... Well, only one other person if could see was reading a book. Most others were on their phones or iPods playing games or on laptops writing or doing work. You can't do much when devices are on airplane mode, but you can still play games and such I guess. Unfortunately I don't have that kind of luxury, even when I lived in this world I didn't have that kind of luxury, mostly because I don't care for those things. I kept thinking about what I witness last night, and I couldn't stop thinking about what I'm going to do when I get back home... I'm sure it'll be difficult having to go back home, and seeing everything being destroyed. I tried not to think about it too much, and I ended up closing my eyes to try and rest. I must have finally managed to fall asleep because I closed my eyes and when I opened them we were landing.
"Oh...h-hey..." I said shaking twilight. She let out a soft moan and then woke up.
"Mmmm...What?" She asked as I stopped shaking her.
"We're here... Derek...Derek wake up." I said shaking Derek too.
"I'm up...I'm up..." He said sluggishly. "Are we there yet?"
"Yeah... We're landing..." I said. We all got up and the plane started to drain out. Once all of the people started to funnel out we made our way off the plane and into the terminal. There weren't so many people buzzing around like there were in Boston, but it was crowded enough. There were people with big suitcases and family members, people by themselves, and business looking men with leather suitcases walking around in their suits. Since we're down south in Texas during the spring it's sure to be plenty hot out, humid as hell too... Waking all the way through Texas to get to the military base wouldn't be the smartest idea.
"So what now?" Asked twilight. "We don't have anywhere to go..."
"And we don't have a car..." Added Derek.
"Yeah... But we should be able to take the bus... And look." I said pointing out a conveniently placed tourist stand that said "welcome!" In big bright letters like this place was some kind of amusement park. There was a woman behind the stand selling maps and such. I walked over to her and she greeted me with a big smile, and I returned the favor.
"Hello there y'all...how can I help you?" She asked. She had a very bad Texas accent, and by bad I meant it was obviously fake.
"Uh... Can I get one of those maps?" I asked.
"Sure thing... They're free." She said.
"Oh... Uh... Okay..." I said. "Also... Can you recommend a cheap place to stay the night?" I asked.
"Oh no problem honey... If y'all take the bus from the airport and get off at the sixth stop there should be a nice and cozy motel just along the road." She said.
"Uh...thanks." I said smiling and walking away. She smiled back and waved and me and the others walked away from the booth.
"That was weird..." Said twilight.
"Ugh... Her accent was so bad..." Said Derek making the three of us laugh a little.
"Yeah... It was pretty bad." I said.
"Crim- I mean... Alex... I uh... I have to use the bathroom." Said twilight tapping my shoulder.
"The bathroom... You know, now that you mention it... I do too." I said.
"Same here..." Said Derek.
"Let's see... Oh there... A directory..." I said pointing out a large sign with a map and key. I walked over to it and searched for where we were on the map and where the bathrooms were. There was a food court to our right with bathrooms there. "Alright then... This way." I said leading twilight and Derek along. I walked through the crowds to the food court with twilight and Derek right behind me. Then I made my way through and over to a set of doors by one of the stands. We walked over and twilight went into the female room and me and Derek went into the men's room. I walked up to one of the urinals and started to do my business when suddenly, something strange popped into my head. It was about why I am using the bathroom... I shouldn't have to. My immortal body consumes all nutrients, so that I don't produce any waste, I don't even sweat, my body just leaks water to keep me cool. I haven't had to use the bathroom since I became a god...something doesn't feel right.
Being in a gods body means that I don't need to do things like eating, drinking, or using the bathroom. I don't even need to sleep, they're just things that I do anyway. Whenever I say that I'm hungry I'm not really hungry, I just want to enjoy the taste of food, or I might be tired and I need to consume energy to give myself a boost. I've started to notice that I'm slowly becoming less and less of a god. I've just started to realize this now. I get tired, sleepy, I get hungry and my stomach growls and churns, my wounds don't heal as fast and I feel like I have less magical energy then when I was first turned into a god, and now I'm having to use the bathroom. There's no mistaking it... This has to be his fault. He's the whole reason why we're here. This sudden realization was making me feel nervous now. I shook the thought from my mind momentarily and finished up. I zipped up my fly once again and washed my hands, and then it waited outside of the restrooms with Derek until twilight came out not much longer after.
"Alright... Much better..." She said. "So where to now?"
"Well... The woman said to get on the bus that stops at the airport, then to ride it until the sixth stop... She said there should be a cheap motel around there."
"By the time we get off the bus the sun will have already risen..." Said Derek.
"It still doesn't hurt to stop and rest and catch some real sleep." Said twilight. "Sleeping in that plane left a crick in my neck..."
"I suppose..." Said Derek. We made our way through the terminal without any problems. Once we made it outside we waded our way through the crowded street to get to the bus stop. Luckily for us it didn't take long for the bus to arrive. When it did we boarded the bus and I paid the driver the exact change for the three of us. The bus was crowded and we had to sit near the back. Twilight sat near the window seat, and I sat next to her. Derek sat across from us next to a middle aged white man. He wore a pair of jeans and an Abercrombie and Fitch T-shirt. Even though it was night it was still warm outside, so it'll probably be pretty hot outside when the sun comes up. We sat patiently on the bus and twilight kept looking out the window. We were waiting for the sixth stop; I kept that in the back of my mind. As the bus moved along it had been ten minutes yet the bus hadn't even reached the first stop yet.
"Don't ya just hate city busses?" Asked the man sitting next to Derek.
"Huh?" I asked not completely catching the question since I had been dozing off.
"I said, don't you just hate city busses?" Repeated the man.
"Oh... I despise public transportation... Unfortunately it's our only option." I said.
"Yeah, I know what you mean... I totaled my car the other day. Now I gotta take the bus." He said.
"That sucks..." I said. And with that the awkward conversation had died down and I returned to gazing out the window. I looked at twilight and saw that she was tired; she had bags under her eyes. "Hey..." I said nudging her. "Still tired?"
"Mhmm..." She moaned.
"You can rest on my shoulder for a bit..." I said. She smiled and rested her head on my shoulder and started to doze off. It didn't take her long to slip under; she always was a fast sleeper. I rested my head on the back of the bus chair just as the bus had finally come to its first stop. A few people got off the bus and luckily fewer got on leaving some open seats. The bus started up again and we were off one more time.
"Is she your wife?" Asked the man again looking over to me.
"Huh... Oh, no... She's my sister..." I said. "We just got off a plane from Boston... She's still a bit tired."
"That's harsh..." He said ending yet another awkward conversation. It wasn't long before the next stop came up and the man sitting next to Derek had gotten off and said his goodbyes. Almost half of the bus got off at this stop and nobody else got on. With every stop after that the bus had gotten completely empty now. It was just us, and we had just left the fourth stop moving to the fifth. The road was a little bumpy and we were moving into the slums of the town now. There were alleyways and graffiti on the walls of old apartment buildings. Twilight had woken back up not too long ago and was still a bit drowsy, but she was starting to come through. As we rode through the streets for another couple of minutes we soon stopped at the fifth stop. The bus doors opened up and a rather shady looking gang of thugs walked on and took seats near us.
I didn't make much of it, and luckily they didn't do anything, they ended up getting off at the next stop, though that was kinda scary. Time passed and eventually we made it to our stop. Just like the woman mentioned, there was a motel just down the road. We made our way down, lazy and tired, and the sun was actually now breaking over the horizon...so much for a good night's sleep. We checked into the motel and ordered a room. Once we got the key and got into the room I crashed right onto the bed, so did Derek and twilight. The bed was surprisingly comfortable and without hesitation twilight was out like a light, and so was Derek. I chuckled to myself watching the three of us all lazily laying on the same bed; we didn't even get under the covers or anything. I just smiled, closed my eyes, and started drifting away to sleep. I kept thinking about a lot of things and before I knew it my thoughts had consumed me and I was in sleep.
I want all of this to be over soon...so I can go home.
-Authors Note: hey guys, its been a while and the new chapter is kinda short, just a bit shy of 3,000 words... but dont worry. it was going to be longer but my step father had very recently passed away and things are still a little grey down on my end, so i haven't really been up to much writing. i know im trying to get this freaking story done already, so the next chapter is going to be a big one, and at the end of it the group will have left the real world and onto the final boss stage, if you will, and such and such. there are going to be...if i had to guess...five more chapters for this story. the writing might be a bit hasty, but im trying. im just getting bored of this story actually... my other story A fairies tale (new name/ originally unforgiven) has been taking up all of my interests...so yeah, ive actually got two chapters coming along for that, ones already finished, but im going to wait for the second one to be done and release them as a pair... so just hold on for that. so i hope you guys like this chapter and thank you all for supporting the story by leaving reviews and liking it. once this story is done im going to take a much needed break from this whole thing... but I'm still going to do some writing for a fairies tale. i'll see you guys next time...
