Hello all! Thank you all so much for the favorites, follows, and reviews. Love you guys.
Throughout her life, Kayla could pin point the moments that affected her life to the point of almost destroying it. First was her mother's death, not even her best attempts could cover up her pain, the stoic girl cracked and broke when she saw her mother suffer and no one do anything about it. Another was her jump into killing, the week after her first kill she did not sleep. Now, her move to Gotham was threatening to kill her. She had left Bruce's pent house and was walking back, it was a nice day after all.
Now she could tell someone was following her and she was worried if it was Joker's men. She decided to go into the first store she passed next, a high-end clothing store. She pretended to browse, all the while stealing glances to the door. She knew she wasn't crazy, that she had a man on her tail for close to a mile, following her across the roads. There, he walked in. He was tall and lean with dark features and an even darker aura. Why was he following her?!
She grabbed the first jacket in her size on the rack she was browsing and took it to the cashier. She had to appear unawares for now. With a deep breath, she exited the store behind a very prominent looking woman, scurrying to cross the road before the light turned on her. Maybe she could lose him, if not she'd lead him into an alley, she had mace on her key ring and a particularly sharp knife in her purse.
With a little nod she walked as fast as she could, still trying to look oblivious all the while. The sun was just setting, meaning it was close to 7 o'clock. It was hard going, rushing around in her heels for so long, but she soldiered on, the blisters were nothing compared to the imminent approach of the dark man. She refused to give in. She would fight back. Finally getting to another cross walk, the red hand halting her progress, Kayla decided to glance back.
Dark eyes. Her heart stopped for a moment as she stared into those dark eyes. She couldn't move, not even when the ocean of people swept past them.
'Move,' that voice in her head that always kicked her into gear yelled. So she turned and went to follow the group, follow safety. His hand on her shoulder stopped her, it threatened to stop her heart again.
"Follow," his voice in her ear was gruff but the memory of it already left her. Did he have an accent? No, she was certain it was a voice that one could not discern its birthplace. She followed him; her hand slowly unzipped her purse.
She ignored his throaty laugh, closing her hand around her knife. He was talking now; she could hear it through the blood pumping to her head. She was ready, almost begged him to turn on her.
"So, this is the little bitch who killed the boss?" another voice echoed in the dark.
"What are you talking about?" her voice came out as confused and afraid as she wanted it, throwing them off would be the best way to get out of this.
"Don't play dumb with us," the guy who lead her said, "that Joker told us what you did."
Fuck. That was unexpected, so she decided to take a different tactic.
"Yes," she let the setting sun reflect in her eyes, making them look more gold than blue, "and I'll do the same to you."
She didn't expect the first hit, or the second. Kayla picked herself up off the ground, smiling wickedly. The feeling of blood pouring out of her nose and into her mouth didn't faze her, she had to fight or she would die. Yanking the knife out of her purse, Kayla leapt at the dark man, her bloody smile dripping down her chin. She refused to go down, so she stabbed the man again and again and again.
"F-fuck you, you crazy bitch!" the man screamed. She expected that, but she was shocked when she heard the loud bang and felt the searing pain. She wanted to scream, to cry out for help, but she couldn't. With a weak little gasp, she fell. It took forever to hit the ground, vision swimming and swaying. The last thing she saw were dark eyes behind the man, looking down at her in surprise.
And cliffy time ~ hope you all liked it 3 I wanted her to get into another fight, but this time she didn't initiate it… oooooo, what's happening now?! Review, favorite, and follow!
