Chapter 11 Wow Didn't See That Coming
It must have been an hour since anybody had spoken as they sat and watched over the sick teen. They were all lost in their thoughts of guilt over him not feeling like he could confide in them about being hurt. None was hurting more than Sirius though. His heart felt weighed down with guilt. He should have done more to convince his son he would always be there for him. That he could always come to him for anything. That his dad would actually want to know he was hurt or sick.
Draco was the one to finally break the silence. He turned to look at his dad. "We forgot to tell Longbottom what was going on with Harry. I bet he is worried sick by now." He was looking guilty, since he knew none of them would have realized that Harry needed help if not for the Gryffindor.
"What?" Sirius shook his head trying to clear his mind reminding Remus of Padfoot.
Draco looked uncomfortable. He hadn't meant to disturb his uncle. "I was just telling Dad that we forgot to tell Longbottom about Harry. I'm sure he's worried."
"Oh I'll have Dobby tell him." But before he could call him Remus interrupted.
"That's okay Sirius I will go tell him and the other Gryffindors as well. I'm sure his teammates and classmates would want to know too."
"Thanks Remus." Sirius tried to smile appreciatively, but it came out more as a grimace.
"I wish I could go with you, since Longbottom actually came to me, but I know I'm not allowed in the Gryffindor tower." Draco mused.
"You can go in the tower Draco. You are a direct descendant from one of the Founders, since your Dad blood adopted you." Rowena Ravenclaw stated.
"But remember if you cause trouble there I will not let you enter again even if I have to inform your dad or uncle." Godric warned him. "My portrait guards the entrance after all."
"I won't cause trouble Granddad. I promise. I just feel I owe Longbottom the courtesy of telling him myself." He admitted.
"I think that is a great idea." Helga beamed proudly at the young man. "And I'm sure he will appreciate that you took the time to tell him personally."
"Is it okay if we leave through your quarters Sirius?" Remus asked as he stood to leave the room.
Before Sirius could say anything, Sal spoke up. "There is a door at the other end of the hallway that will take you out on the sixth floor. Just remember when you come back the password is 'family health' and only people that have been brought or let into the tower by somebody with Founders' blood can actually enter even with the password."
"Does that mean Andromeda can let them in as well?" Ted wondered out loud. "She is a Black too."
"Actually no," Sirius was the one to answer. "The Ravenclaw connection comes from my Father's side and Andi comes from my Mother's. It is just Regulus, Draco, Harry and myself that have Grandmother's blood in our veins."
Remus and Draco made their way out onto the sixth floor making sure to turn back and see what was guarding the entrance, so they could come back to the tower this way. The painting showed a young girl lying in a hospital bed with a woman that could be her mother sitting beside her. Draco remembered seeing the painting many times in the last couple of years and had always thought it should have been in the hospital wing. He now understood why it wasn't though. It made perfect sense why it was here now that he knew what was behind it.
Ron Weasley jumped to his feet drawing his wand when he saw who had just climbed through the portrait hole into the Gryffindor common room. He gave a bellowed roar. "Malfoy I will hex you silly and get away with it since you have come to attack us in our own common room. I don't care if others think you have changed I know a snake is always a snake and can't be trusted. And I have proof now with you coming here. You aren't allowed in here and now you'll be expelled."
Even as he opened his mouth to curse the other boy Remus Lupin disarmed him. "You have just earned a week's worth of detentions Mr. Weasley and ten points from Gryffindor. You will not pull a wand on a fellow student again or it will be double that. I would have thought getting into trouble once today would have been enough for you." The disappointment in his voice was clear for all to hear.
"You can't do that." Ron protested. "I was defending our common room. Students from other houses are not allowed in each other's common rooms."
"That may be so Mr. Weasley on the whole, but Mr. Black here not only has Godric Gryffindor's personal permission to come in here. But he is also a direct descendant from Rowena Ravenclaw, which gives him the right to go where he wants in this castle." Remus explained with patience he really didn't feel. "None of you will attack him if he should come in here. Is that clear? He has promised not to cause trouble, so you have no reason to treat him bad."
Neville shot Ron a dirty look, as he pushed past him to stand in front of his Head of House and Draco. "Draco, did you find out what was going on with Harry?" He asked his concern evident for all to see. This kept the others quiet so they could hear the answer.
"Yes I did. We need to thank you Neville for letting us know something was wrong." Draco gave a slight smile to the Gryffindor. "Thanks to the wea..." Catching himself in time and with a quick glance towards the professor beside him he continued, "Weasley here Harry was hurt today in Care of Magical Creatures class."
"What?" came the anguished cry from Hermione Granger. "Harry wasn't hurt. We would have seen if he was."
"Well evidently not, because Harry was very definitely hurt," Draco sneered angrily at her. He blamed her partly for Harry not telling them. He probably thought if his best friend was treating him like she did, nobody else would care either.
Remus Lupin got an overwhelming urge to pull the distraught girl into his arms and comfort her. He couldn't understand this pull he had to the young Gryffindor. He had felt it every time he was near her to some extent, but now he was physically, having to restrain the wolf in him from pulling the child into his arms. Maybe it had something to do with her being the same age that Leilani Tasha Lupin should be. The thought of the name brought back a memory.
Remus was looking at his beautiful wife. Lily's belly was round with their baby. She was six months pregnant, and she just glowed. She stood their pleading with him, as he looked at her with love in his eyes.
"Please Remus I don't want you to spy on the werewolves anymore. What if they realize what you are doing and come after our Leilani after she is born?" Lily held her stomach protectively as if hoping to keep the precious baby safe from such dangers.
Remus stared at his wife for a moment. When he realized that she was truly afraid he pulled her into his arms holding her close. "It's going to be okay Lily. I don't want anything to happen to our cub either. I will go with Sirius and James to talk to Dumbledore before we head to the Shrieking Shack for the full moon tonight."
"But what if he won't let you quit? I've told him time and again I don't want you doing this, and he still says it's your duty for the greater good." She cried quietly into his shoulder.
"I'll make him understand love. I promise by this time next month I will have stopped going on those assignments whether he wants me to or not." He kissed her lips gently thankful once again that this beautiful woman had married him.
He remembered Dumbledore had tried to talk him out of it, but he was adamant, and with James and Sirius to back him up the old man had given in. They had spent the night frolicking through the Forbidden Forest only to go back home and find Remus's world to have fallen apart. When he had gotten to the house where he and Lily lived Dumbledore was there. The news he had given Remus had nearly completely destroyed him, only having Sirius and James with him at the time stopped him from killing himself. Those two had helped him and Lily survive the nightmare of what had happened the night before.
Dumbledore had explained that he had come to the house to reassure Lily that he was not angry that Remus was quitting spying for him. They had been having tea the man said when all of a sudden Lily's body went taut, and she was clutching her stomach in agony. Dumbledore said that he had to deliver their premature baby. Lily had been in so much pain from the baby tearing her up inside that he hadn't even had time to call for a Healer. He said the baby had died right before he finally got it out, because of him. Of Remus being a werewolf his precious daughter had tried to transform in the womb. Her little heart couldn't handle the pain of the transformation and had given out. Dumbledore said the baby was caught in the middle of being half wolf and half human baby. He had cremated their baby before either Lily or he had seen her, because he knew they would want to hold a burial, and if the Ministry had seen the baby even more werewolf laws would have been passed.
Lily was heartbroken. She would cry continuously saying she had heard her baby cry. That she knew she wasn't dead. It was only when Harry came along, and they were made Godparents to him that she finally started acting like his Lily again. But she never stopped believing she heard her little girl cry.
What if Lily had been right? Remus never doubted Dumbledore's word in those days, because he had trusted the man explicitly, but now he knew how vile a man he was. What if his baby had been born alive? Did he kill her? If not where was his cub? He needed to question Dumbledore about this. Maybe Amelia would let him so he could make sure the man hadn't killed his baby to keep him as a spy. He would go to her tomorrow and ask, and if she wouldn't for him as soon as Harry was well he would have Sirius ask her. Remus was brought out of his musings by the talk going on around him.
Neville had enough of the two arguing about why Harry hadn't told anybody he was hurt. He wanted to know what was wrong with him and how bad it was. "Would you to bloody stop arguing with each other long enough to let me find out how Harry is?"
Draco looked guilty. He had come here to let Neville know about Harry, and he was spending the time arguing with Granger instead. "Sorry Neville. When Harry pushed Weasley out of the way he got slashed by the hippogriff."
Many gasps of shock were heard around the room as they were all listening to the Slytherin explain.
"How bad was it?" Oliver Wood demanded. He took Care of Magical Creatures class, and so he knew how much damage a hippogriff could do. Plus he knew that something in those talons could cause you to be deathly ill or even die if not treated soon enough.
"He has three slashes from his left shoulder to about eight inches down his chest. Professor A. Tonks says that if a hippogriff wound isn't healed in the first hour, then it will get infected because of something in the talons. Harry went about three hours or a little more." Draco informed them. "He is very sick and has been unconscious since we found him."
"Will he be okay?" Angelina Johnson asked through her tears.
Remus looked at the worried Gryffindors standing around them. "Andromeda Tonks says he will get better, but he will be very sick for the next forty-eight to seventy-two hours." He assured the lions.
"Can we go to the hospital wing and see him." Fred asked for his teammates.
"No." He shook his head as he answered. "Harry isn't in the hospital wing but a special one in the Founders' tower for the Heirs to use."
"But we need to see him?" Hermione sobbed.
"Now you think of wanting to see him. Why don't you go baby Weasley instead?" Draco snapped.
"Mr. Black that is uncalled for." Remus reprimanded him. He then turned back to the Gryffindors. "I will inform Lord Black that some of you are asking to visit Harry and let you know his decision. "Come along Mr. Black and let's go check on your cousin." He ushered Draco from the room.
When their Head of House had left Fred and George turned furiously towards their youngest brother. "This is your fault," seethed George.
"Harry wouldn't be hurt if you weren't such an idiot." Fred was so angry he was almost foaming at the mouth.
"He really should have let the hippogriff at you." George added coldly.
"It might have made you grow up some." Fred concluded for both him and his twin.
"I'm your brother. How can you say that?" Ron shouted outraged.
"Please don't tell anybody you are our brother." Both boys ordered before walking out of the portrait opening.
Ron was fuming and it only got worse when he saw Neville join Dean and Seamus to talk about Harry. Then Hermione walked over to them crying and upset because the Boy-Who-Lived had been hurt. He did a slow spin checking out what people were doing in the common room and was pissed when he noticed quite a few were glaring at him angrily. He stormed off to his dorm and once there he cast all kinds of spells on Potter-Black's bed. Why did Harry have to get everything? He had them all worried about him right now when Ron had been hurt today too. Where was Ron's sympathy and attention?
When Remus and Draco got back to the Gryffindor family hospital room it was to find Harry stirring some. Sirius was trying to coax him to open his eyes, as they retook the chairs they had occupied before.
"Come on Pup please open your eyes just for a minute or two." He begged his son.
Harry moaned in pain, as he heard his Dad's voice fading in and out. The man sounded so upset Harry wanted to reassure him that he was fine, but it was so hard to get his eyes to obey him. "Da...Da...Dad." He finally mumbled out.
"Harry, oh Harry, Pup." Sirius couldn't hold in the relieved sob, as he heard his son speak. "Come on Baby open your eyes for Daddy."
"Not a baby." was the grumbled barely heard reply.
"Harry James, you will always be my baby. I don't care if you are two hundred years old you are just going to have to except that you are Sirius Black's baby.
"Daaad." He whined, as he finally forced his eyes open to see his father with tears streaming down his face. "Please don't cry Dad." He got out in a stronger voice. He hated that he was the reason his Dad was so upset.
Sirius seemed to realize his child was feeling guilty. "These are tears of relief and happiness Pup. I needed to see those grey eyes to be sure you were going to be okay, even though Andi told me she will be able to make you better."
"Where am I?" Harry asked looking around. He knew this wasn't the hospital wing or his room.
"This is the Founders' hospital wing." Granddad Godric told him with a smile.
"Can I go back to my room? Please?" He turned puppy eyes on his Dad. "I hate hospital rooms."
Andromeda spoke before Sirius could. "No Harry, you need to stay here until I know you are going to be okay."
Harry thought she sounded a lot like Madam Pomfrey, and he didn't like it a bit. He continued to look pleadingly at his Dad hoping to get the man to cave.
"Not going to work Pup." He gave a relieved laugh. "You scared me half to death, and you have a long way to go before you are better, since you didn't tell anybody you were hurt right away or at all for that matter." His eyes took on that stern look Harry knew so well. He decided he didn't want to see that look when he felt so bad, so he gave a little moan of pain. But Sirius must have known what he was doing because he said. "Nice try Pup."
Harry gave a sheepish smile that was more a grimace of pain. "I had to try."
Sirius gave a laugh, the first since he had been told something was wrong with Harry. "Of course you did. You are the son of two Marauders, if you hadn't tried I might have had to ask Andi to make sure you hadn't been switched with another kid."
"I'm sorry I worried you Dad. I didn't mean too." Harry said wearily.
"Don't worry about it Pup, will talk about it when you are better. Right now you just rest and get better." He soothed his child by carding his hand through his hair again. He saw he was fighting to stay awake. "Sleep Harry James and get better for me, Kiddo."
"Okay Dad. Love you." He mumbled as his eyes closed.
Sirius finally relaxed some and stood up after Harry was sound asleep. He turned to look at the family who had sat there giving him their silent, for the most part support. "Thanks guys it means a lot to me that you would all be here for Harry and me." He glanced at his nephew. "Oh Draco, your first day of classes and you probably got homework. You haven't had time to get any of it done." He checked his watch. "And it's already after nine."
"That's okay Uncle Sirius. I will work on it tomorrow. I'm just glad that Harry is going to be alright." Draco smiled reassuringly.
Regulus stood up. "But we should be heading back to our quarters. We need to get you into bed soon for another big day of classes tomorrow." He pulled his son to his feet. "Sirius if you need me, send Dobby and I'll be here. But please try to get some rest."
"I will Reg. Good night guys, and Draco thanks for being such a good cousin to Harry today. I would hate to think how sick he would have been, if you hadn't brought it to my attention that something was wrong." He walked over and pulled his nephew into a hug.
Draco's body went tense for a moment, before he relaxed and hugged the man back. "I wasn't that good of a cousin today, or I would have realized that he was hurt earlier." He mumbled against the man's chest.
"Don't blame yourself Kiddo. This is all on my Pup. He should have said something." He smiled gently at the young man. "Get some sleep and I will see you tomorrow sometime."
The two Blacks left while Andromeda was getting everything out that she would need in the middle of the night for Harry's next treatment. Ted was saying his goodbyes and before long both Tonks were also gone. Andi promised to call for Dobby to bring her back at midnight for Harry's next treatment.
Then it was just Remus and Sirius watching over Harry. Sirius could tell something was on his friends mind.
"What's wrong Moony? What has your mind in a turmoil? I think it is more than Harry being sick."
"Sirius I don't want to bother you at a time like this. You should be worried about Harry, not my problems." He said getting to his feet, so he could leave.
"Remus, please sit down and tell me what is wrong." He walked around the bed and sat in the chair Andi had occupied earlier. "I really could use something to take my mind off worrying about Harry for a moment."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. Tell me what is going through your head." He ordered with a smile.
"I don't know how to explain this. You will probably think I'm crazy. The last few days I have been thinking about Leilani." He admitted in a whisper.
Sirius jerked back in shock. He hadn't heard that name in so long. "Leilani?"
The Founders were listening to the conversation avidly. They were surprised by the reaction of one word to Sirius's face. The man looked like he had seen the ghost of a loved one for the first time.
"Who is Leilani?" Godric finally asked when no more words were said for a couple of minutes. The two men had just been sitting there staring at each other.
Remus glanced up at the portrait. "Leilani Tasha Lupin was my daughter. She was born three months prematurely, because I gave her my lythancropy. She tried to turn in her mother's stomach and her little heart couldn't take it. She was born dead on the full moon."
"What?" Salazar hollered making Harry stir on the bed. "Sorry." He told Sirius as the man sent him a reproachful glare. "I didn't mean to shout, but that is utter nonsense."
"Why do you say that?" Remus piped up with a most surprising look on his face, at least that was what Sirius thought.
"Remus?" Sirius turned questioning eyes on him.
"I was just doing some thinking today. I'll explain in a moment. I promise." Remus assured him. "Please Sir tell me why you said that?"
"Because lythancropy cannot be passed on by any means, except from a bite from a werewolf during the full moon." At the raised eyebrows he added. "I know this to be true because I did extensive studies on it. What hardly anybody knew was that my youngest son Sam was bitten by a werewolf when he was nine years old. That is why I built the Chamber of Secrets. He went there for his transformations. I spent the rest of my life study any and all I could find out about werewolves. Sam was afraid that he would never be able to marry or have kids because of his illness." He looked hard at Remus. "Sam gave me three beautiful grandchildren. Yes they got a little cranky around the full moon, and they liked their meat cooked rare, but they were perfectly fine otherwise. We also knew six other couples who had children where one or the other of their parents was a werewolf. Two of those families the mother was the wolf and not one baby had any signs of turning into a wolf."
Sirius was gaping at the man, while Remus realized that his earlier fears were true. Had Dumbledore killed his baby? If not where was she? He had to ask Amelia Bones if he could question the man under Veritaserum.
"Thank you for that Sir. I thought I killed my own child." Remus let out a relieved sob. He hadn't killed his baby by just being her father.
"Remus, what are you thinking?" Sirius finally asked.
"Let me explain. I've been having these strange feelings around Hermione Granger. Almost like I want to protect or comfort her at odd times. I couldn't figure out what was going on. I decided to check her file and found out she was born on 19 September 1979. The same day Leilani came into the world. I thought that was all it was, but when I was in the Gryffindor common room and I got the feeling again. It all came back to me. What happened that day and the day before," Remus explained wearily. "Do you remember what we did before we went to hang out together for the full moon?"
Sirius thought for a minute. "Yeah, we went to Dumbledore, so you could tell him you weren't going to spy for him anymore, because Lily was afraid they would come after the baby if they found out. He argued about it but finally agreed."
"But the next day we went back to my house Dumbledore was there. He said he had gone to talk to Lily and let her know that he was fine with the decision. He explained about her going into labor, because the baby had tried to turn inside her but was born dead. He also told us he cremated Leilani, because she was caught in mid transformation, and the ministry would use her to make more anti-werewolf laws." Remus tone was somber, as he remembered that horrible morning.
"I remember." Sirius's sadness was heard loud and clear.
"Do you also remember Lily swearing she heard her baby cry? She never stopped saying that." Remus had tears rolling down his face. "I was thinking at the time she just couldn't handle the fact our precious little girl was dead. I trusted Dumbledore explicitly back then, but now after all we have found out. What if she was right? Did our baby live? What did Dumbledore do with our child? Did he kill her? Or is she out there somewhere?"
"Oh sweet Merlin, Remus. I never even thought of that possibility. We have to find out what really happened to my goddaughter." Sirius pulled his friend into a hug, as they both let tears fall for the child they had loved without ever seeing her.
Remus finally pulled back from his friend and wiped his eyes. "I was thinking, if I could get Amelia Bones to let me question Dumbledore about what happened that night, maybe I could get some closure. I was going to go to her tomorrow as soon as the classes are finished and ask, but if she wouldn't I would have you ask her when Harry is better."
"No, I will write her a letter tonight and have Dobby take it to her. Hopefully she will have everything set up for you tomorrow after classes. I'm sure she will want the answers herself to use in the old coot's trial." He was thinking about getting some parchment and a quill when all of a sudden he was holding both. "Oh I like this room."
"There is one on the seventh floor like it as well." Sal said as he watched his grandson write a letter. "It is across the hall from the portrait of Godric and me. That way we can keep an eye out on its users."
Sirius raised his head to look at the man with understanding showing on his face. "Oh so that is the one you wouldn't talk about of in front of Minerva."
"Yep," Godric answered. "It's called the Room of Requirement. It can give you almost anything you want. It won't give you food though, or bring back the dead. That sort of thing, but still it is an amazing room."
"Too bad we didn't find it when we were in school." Sirius pouted for a second before calling for Dobby.
"Master Sirius called for Dobby, Sir?" The big green bulbous eyes were not looking at Sirius though. They were trained on the sleeping child on the bed.
"Harry is going to be okay Dobby. Andromeda will be calling you to bring her here when Harry needs his next potions, but she says he will be fine in a few days." He smiled reassuringly at the little guy. He knew how devoted to his son the elf was.
"Master Harry will be fine?" Dobby repeated happily.
"Yes." Sirius's own happiness was plain to see. "Dobby, would you take this letter to Amelia Bones for me? Would you also wait to see what her answer will be?"
"Dobby be doing that for Master Sirius, Sir." Dobby took the letter and popped away.
Five minutes later Dobby was back. He told them Madam Bones would have everything ready for the questioning at five in the afternoon. Remus went off to his quarters to nervous to sleep, but he knew he needed to try as he had classes the next day. Sirius thought about another bed and laid down facing his child. He thanked Merlin that he still had his son. He had thought Dumbledore had treated him and his child bad, but if what they thought was true he had been even worse to Remus and his little girl.
The next day Draco headed to the Founders' Infirmary instead of the Great Hall at lunchtime. He wanted to check on Harry. Longbottom had asked about the other boy, and he couldn't tell him anything new. He was going to check out if his cousin was getting better. When he walked into the room his Uncle was sitting on the bed with is back to him. He couldn't see Harry at all.
"Is he okay Uncle Sirius?" The concern was clearly heard.
But it wasn't Sirius who spoke. "Drake, thank Merlin you're here. Dad is driving me crazy. He won't believe I'm fine and should be allowed to go to classes. Tell him I'm fine and should be allowed out of here." The desperate boy begged.
"Harry, you're feeling better." Draco exclaimed.
Sirius on the other hand said."You, young man will stay in this bed until your Aunt Andi gives you a completely clean bill of health. And if you don't stop complaining I will send Draco away and not let you visit with him. Do you understand me?"
"Yes Sir." He pouted petulantly. He peered around his Dad's shoulder at Draco. "Please come and keep me company."
Draco smirked as he went to the other side of the bed and sat in one of the chairs. "Longbottom was asking after you. Granger was too." He added the last part with a sneer.
Draco shouldn't you be eating lunch now?" Sirius asked suddenly.
"I wanted to visit Harry more." He waved off the question.
Sirius shook his head. "Dobby."
"Master Sirius called for Dobby, Sir?" The excited little elf asked he popped in.
"Yes Dobby, will you bring three lunches here please? Make sure Harry's is something light. And after that will you please let Regulus know Draco is eating up here?" He smiled at the little guy.
"Dobby can do that Sir." He popped away only to reappear a minute later with three full trays, before he popped away again.
Harry was not happy to see that the others had roast beef and all the trimming while his was soup and jello. He looked at his dad with his lip stuck out and big puppy eyes. "You don't really mean for me to eat this when you guys have that, do you?"
Sirius smiled at the kid's antics. "Yes Pup I do. Your Aunt Andi has you on a liquid diet. She says that anything heavy will come back up."
Harry Potter-Black was not happy at all. He was stuck in a hospital bed and had sick people food. He wanted to get out of here now. Where was his invisibility cloak when he needed it?
They had a great visit and Draco was told he could bring Neville and Hermione to visit using the sixth floor entrance after dinner. He left to head to his afternoon classes, while Sirius made Harry take a nap much to the kid's dismay.
Remus Lupin made his way from the castle. He apparated to the Ministry as soon as he passed the Hogwarts' wards. He was nervous. This day had dragged on. He was afraid of what he was going to find out in here. He made his way to the security desk.
"I'm here to see Madam Bones of the DMLE."
"Acting Minister Bones you mean." The guard said raising his head to look at the man at his desk. "Your name and your wand please," He held his hand out.
"Remus Lupin." He handed the man his wand and saw him scan it before handing it back.
"Acting Minister Bones can be found in the Minister's office on the first floor." The man told him, as he put a piece of parchment on a spindle.
"Thank you." Remus said politely as he turned away, he heard his name called. He looked around to see Amelia Bones walking towards him.
"Professor Lupin." She held out her hand in greeting.
"Madam uhh... I mean Acting Minister Bones I thank you for taking the time to see me. I hope you are okay with me questioning or being with you while you question Dumbledore about what Sirius told you."
"Lord Black didn't say much except that you wanted to question Dumbledore on something that could lead to either a murder charge or another kidnapping charge for him. It stressed that is was very important to not only you, but him that we get to the bottom of this." She told him as they boarded an elevator that took them to the ninth level. "Can you tell me what it is about?"
Remus looked around as they walked by a single black door and headed to the stairs beside it. They made their way down into a dungeon like hallway. "About a baby that Dumbledore said was stillborn, but we are now wondering if he murdered the baby or kidnapped and did something with it."
Amelia noticed the man looked very uncomfortable at the minute. "Who's baby?"
"Mine." His tone told her not to ask anymore at the moment.
"This is an interrogation room for the prisoners that are held on the eleventh level. Most people don't even realize that we have another level, but we are holding all prisoners there that we have arrested since Lord Black was found to be innocent. We don't want another innocent put with Dementors." She explained as she led him into a bare room.
It had three chairs and a table that were made out of the same concrete as the floor. The legs were all part of the floor. There was only the door they had come through into the room.
"That is the prisoner's chair. It has more wards on it than the average wizard home. No one sitting in it can move unless an Auror literally helps them out of it. It has even more magic suppressing charms then the cuffs they already are wearing. It makes a person tell the truth even without the Veritaserum, but we always use the potion for the really bad cases as well."
Remus turned as the door opened to see Kingsley Shacklebolt and another Auror bring Albus Dumbledore in the room. The man looked strange to Remus's eyes. Part of it was gone were the flamboyant robes and twinkling eyes. He seemed to have aged quite a bit probably from the cuffs suppressing his magic. His hair and beard had been cut. The hair was only shoulder length and his beard while a full beard was normal size. Remus raised questioning eyes towards Amelia.
"It was too much trouble and time consuming to let him keep them their original length. It was taking him longer to wash the beard than it took a normal wizard to shower, add in the hair and it was too much." She explained as she watched Dumbledore being placed in the chair for the prisoner.
The door was warded so nobody could open it from the outside. The two Aurors stood on each side of it, while she had Remus take a seat. She took a vial of clear liquid from her pocket and told Dumbledore to open his mouth. You could tell he was fighting the command, but he finally opened his mouth with resignation. When the obvious signs that the serum was working she walked back over and sat in the other chair.
"You are up Professor Lupin." She pulled out a roll of Parchment and a self inking quick quotes quill. She laid them on the table and waited for the interrogation to begin. "Remember to make sure to ask him his name first."
Remus nodded to her as he began to speak.
"What is your name?"
"Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore."
"Do you remember 19 September 1979?"
"Yes."
"Tell us what happened after the Marauders left your office."
"I got mad that they would think they could defy me. I flooed to the Lupin cottage. Lily made tea and I put a potion to bring on labor in her tea when she wasn't looking. She went into hard labor instantly. I delivered her baby within twenty minutes. I stunned her and took the baby away."
"Was the baby alive when she was born?"
"Yes."
"Did you kill the baby?"
"No."
"What did you do with the baby? I apparated it to a muggle hospital in London and left it on a wheelchair outside the doors."
"Do you know what happened to the baby after that?"
The Aurors and Amelia could see Remus Lupin was using every bit of his self control not to attack the man, and truthfully they wouldn't have blamed him if he did.
"Yes."
"Well what happened to her?" He snarled.
"Somehow the muggles kept her alive."
"How do you know?"
"I watched the muggle papers and in January they said the baby was to be adopted by a muggle family, now that she was the right weight and size."
"Do you know who adopted her?"
""Yes."
"Who?"
"Doctors Robert and Anna Granger. Muggle dentists."
Remus took a deep breath before asking the next question.
"Is Hermione Granger the baby Leilani Tasha Lupin?"
"Yes."
"Did you do anything else to the baby?"
"Yes."
"What?"
"I went to the muggles house after they took her home and cast a glamour charm on her. I also put repelling charms on her so people would not get close to her."
"Is that all you have done to her?"
"No."
"When I delivered her Hogwarts letter I made sure to cast charms to make sure she would act like a bossy know-it-all who wanted to do nothing, but study so nobody would get close to her."
"Why would you do that?"
"Because she was coming to school the same time as the Boy-Who-Lived. It would not be good for the Marauders children to become friendly towards each other."
"How did they become friends then?"
"I don't know. No matter how often I cast the charm they remained friends. I can only assume that it had to do with the charms I put on Harry to make him loyal."
Remus started to sit down when he thought of another question. "Did you do anything else to Lily Lupin?"
"Yes I made it so she would have to be made sterile, so she couldn't pull the same nonsense again."
Remus was snarling now, and it took every ounce of his self control to not attack the man. Only the thought that his daughter was alive kept him from attacking the despicable vermin.
Amelia waved for the Aurors to take Dumbledore back to his cell. "Professor Lupin I'm so sorry. Is there anything I can do to help you?"
He looked at her with pain-filled eyes. "Please tell me that I can have my daughter back. That you won't fight me on it. That you will obliviate the fact that they had her all of this time."
"What if she wants to stay with them?" Amelia bit her lip. She knew if it was her child she would want her back too.
"She has charms on her so people won't get too close to her. Do you really think her adopted parents were able to fight that and become loving parents?"
"That is true."
"Plus they don't even know what she looks like or who she truly is, because of the spellwork." He looked devastated. "She is my cub. I need her back and I think she needs me. Please don't fight me on this."
"I won't. The young lady is at Hogwarts. I suggest you have Lord Black help you make the transition. When you are ready for us to go to the muggles home we will. You should not lose your child, because she was stolen from you." She told him sympathetically.
"Thank you."
He left and wandered around lost in thought. He finally ended up back at Hogwarts about eleven that night. He had no idea where he had been, but he made his way to the sixth floor and his godson's hospital room. When he walked in his eyes met those of his best mate and that was enough to have the other man hurrying to help him into a chair and casting silencing spells around Harry's bed.
"What happened?"
Remus told him everything that had been learned in that questioning. He had tears in his eyes, as he explained that Hermione Granger was really his Leilani Tasha Lupin.
Sirius hugged his friend and let him cry on his shoulder for all of the time he had lost with his child. He knew what the man was going through to some extent, but he never had to think his child was dead for all of those years.
"Sirius, what am I going to do? What if she doesn't want to live with me? What if she doesn't want a werewolf for a father?"
Before Sirius could answer Godric spoke up. "Sirius, Harry is awake."
They both looked at the bed and saw Harry staring at them with concern in his eyes. Sirius cancelled the silencing spells and walked to his son's side.
"What are you doing awake, Kiddo?"
"I need the loo." He told him. "Dad is everything okay?"
"Your Uncle Remus found out some shocking news today, but I don't think he is ready to share it with you. Let's get you to the bathroom." He helped his son from the bed and to the bathroom. "Call if you need me."
When he came back out his Dad was standing by the door waiting for him. "Professor, are you okay?"
Remus Lupin stared at his godson and bit his lip. He hated that the child wouldn't call him by his first name even. But he saw nothing but true concern in the boy's eyes. He decided to tell him the whole story.
Harry was stunned. There was no other word for it. His best friend had been forced to be born early and stolen from her own mother's womb. She had been taken from her parents in hopes she would die. Then when she had gotten new adopted parents she had spells put on her so nobody would really get close to her. What had Hermione's life really been like? Was it as bad as Harry's had been? Merlin he hoped not.
"When are you going to tell her?" Harry finally got out.
"I don't know." Remus looked devastated. "What if she doesn't want anything to do with me? What if she doesn't want a werewolf for a father? She may be happy being Hermione Granger and not want to be Leilani Tasha Lupin."
"You have to tell her. The spells have to come off as well as that glamour. She deserves the right to know the truth." Harry was remembering when he was told Lily was his mother and how it was a lie. He thought it was hard to learn different, but it was better he knew the truth.
"You don't think she will just be angry?" Remus held his breath waiting for an answer.
Sirius sat back and watched the other two talk. This was the most Harry had ever spoken to Remus. He was hoping they could find a way to bridge the gap Harry felt at the other man for his actions in the past. This was the first positive sign. He hoped them both worrying about Hermione or rather Leilani could be the thing that pulled them closer.
"She needs to be told, and as soon as possible." Harry said stubbornly. "Tell her tomorrow after classes. Do it in here, and I will be able to give her the support she needs. We have been best friends for two years. I may be able to help her adjust especially since I have been through something a little like she has."
"You would really do that?" Remus was starting to get a little hope.
"Of course I will. She is my best friend. Come here and we can all have dinner together than you can tell her. We need to make sure she eats first, or she may not want to afterwards."
"That sounds like a plan." Sirius smiled. "But now you need to sleep." He had noticed the yawns that Harry was unsuccessfully trying to hide. He tucked the blanket around his pup as he scooted back down in his bed.
Remus stood to go. "I will be here tomorrow at five." He left for his quarters and hopefully to sleep. He didn't think it would happen with worrying about his cub's reactions to their story, but he could hope for not only sleep but a good outcome from tomorrow's talk.
Hermione made her way to Harry's hospital room via the sixth floor entrance to the Founders' tower. She was surprised to know that Lord Black had said she would be able to use that entrance anytime that Harry was in the special hospital wing. When she entered the room he was staying in she saw that besides Harry and his dad, the room also held Neville, Draco and Professors Lupin and R. Black.
There was a table set up with dinner for all of them. It was pushed up to Harry's bed, where Harry was sitting on the side of it beside his dad facing the table. She did wonder if the reason the man was sitting so close was in case it was too much for Harry to sit up there for dinner. She definitely noticed how very protective he was of her friend.
They all had a great dinner together with lots of laughing and joking around. It felt like a real family dinner. it was something Hermione had never experienced. Her parents barely spoke to her unless it was about her studying. They way they treated made her always feel like she was a stranger trying to fit into their family. She knew she was adopted, but it still bothered her. Why had they even adopted her if they were going to be so standoffish? She pushed the thoughts away, as she listened to Harry's dad telling a story about when he and his friends were at school. Laughter rang out when the man finished the story. But she couldn't help noticing the way the three boys were sharing looks. It looked like they were planning on trying a prank like that soon.
Remus was nervous. He kept stealing glances at the child he now knew was his cub, his baby girl. He couldn't help wondering what she would look like with the glamour gone. Would she keep her hair color, which was like his or would it be red like Lily's? What about her eyes? They were dark brown now. His eyes were brown but they were lighter than hers and would turn amber sometimes. Would hers change to match his or would they be emerald green like her mother's? Would her body take a tiny shape? Lily had been very petite after all. He couldn't wait until dinner was done so they could talk. But he also wanted the meal to go on forever, so he wouldn't have to find out that she didn't want anything to do with him.
Regulus Black stood up. Sirius had told him that he needed to speak with Remus and Miss Granger after the meal, so he was now going to get the boys to give them the time they needed.
"Come on Draco. You have homework to get done, and I'm sure you do to Mr. Longbottom." He was ushering the boys towards the door. "Bye Harry, I will see you later." He called back to his nephew.
"Later Uncle Reggie. Bye Drake. Bye Nev. I'll see you two tomorrow." He waved. "I'm supposed to be sprung from here tomorrow around dinner time."
Hermione stood up to follow them out when Sirius stopped her. "Miss Granger, could you please stay? Remus has a story he wants to tell you."
The man had cleared away the table and gotten Harry to lean against the headboard. He helped Hermione back to sit on the side of Harry's bed, before he took a seat beside his friend. He wanted Harry to be able to offer Hermione the support she would need, while he filled that role for his own friend. He gave Remus a nod to let him know they were ready when he was.
Taking a deep breath Remus began. "Miss Granger as you know, I'm a werewolf. I have been one since I was six years old. I don't know if Harry told you, but I was married to his godmother Lily. The story I'm going to tell you may seem farfetched but it is the truth."
Remus then proceeded to explain everything that had happened since he got his memories back. He explained the strange feelings he got around Hermione, and how he had checked her records and found out her birth date. She sat and listened quietly when he explained his sudden idea that Dumbledore might have lied. Then she was told of the questioning he had been allowed to do of Dumbledore. He repeated the questions and the man's answers. By this time the young teenager was gaping at him.
"I know this is a lot to take in, but I want you to know that I want to take off the glamour and spells. I'm hoping you will give me a chance to be your dad. I know you have other parents, but you are my child. A child that was stolen from me and the only thing I can think about is I want you back." He told her with his emotions showing through loud and clear.
Harry saw that Hermione was overwhelmed. "Dad, could you put up some silencing spells around me and Hermione, and you two talk over there for a little bit?" He waved his arm in the direction of the other side of the room.
"Of course Pup, if you two need us just wave your arms to get our attention." He smiled in understanding, before waving his arms to cast the spells.
He led Remus to a table that had popped up with a chessboard on it. They sat down and started playing a game. Sirius tried to keep his friend's mind off what the two kids were talking about.
Hermione looked at her friend helplessly. "Harry this can't be true, can it?"
He smiled with compassion at his friend. "Hermione, he questioned him under Veritaserum. It's true. You are really Leilani Tasha Lupin." He rubbed her arm soothingly. "I wonder what you really look like."
"Harry I'm afraid. What am I going to do?" She begged in a whisper.
"What do you want to do Hermione?" He sat up and wrapped his arms around her in a hug.
"I don't know." She glanced over at the man she just found out was her father. "Do you think he really wants me?" There was an almost desperate plea in her voice.
"Hermione when I woke up last night it was to see the man crying, and my dad holding him like I am you right now. He told me the story and his fear that you wouldn't want to be his daughter because he is a werewolf."
"I don't care about that." She waved away the thought as if it was of no importance. "Harry, do you think he could love me?"
"Oh Hermione, of course I do." He reassured her. He bit his lip before finally asking, "Hermione, will you tell me about your life with the Grangers?"
Harry sat quietly and listened, as she talked about a life of indifference. The only time they seemed to show her any attention was when it came to her school work. She explained that was why she studied so hard. It was her way to try to get their acceptance. She told about the people she had always considered her parents not speaking to her for days on end. A lonely childhood was what Hermione endured. They hadn't been mean to her or starved her like Harry had been, but the emotional neglect had been a big part of Hermione's life. When she had finally told her story Harry continued to hug her close. He rubbed soothing circles on her back.
"Hermione, do you trust me?"
"Of course I do Harry. You're my best friend. You have shown me more love and acceptance than anybody in my life." She admitted quietly.
Harry closed his eyes and took a calming breath. "I think you should go for it. Let him take the glamour and spells off. Give him a chance to be a father to you." When she pulled back to look him in the face he added. "What do you really have to lose? You have already admitted they you haven't really been loved by the Grangers."
"But who would I be Harry? Hermione Granger or Leilani Lupin? I don't even know who Leilani Lupin is."
"She is whoever you make her to be Hermione. I'm not Harry Potter like I thought. I don't look the same or even think the same anymore. I'm now Harry Potter-Black, and I like who he is. Draco is no longer a Malfoy. He doesn't look the same, but he is adapting to being Draco Black. I like Draco Black a lot better than Draco Malfoy." He smiled gently. "It will seem hard at first, but if it is like with me. It will be worth it. I have a dad that loves me. He makes me feel important whether he is giving me a hug or punishing me." His cheeks took on a pink tinge at that comment. "I'm glad everyday that I gave him the chance to explain that night I ran away." He saw the way that Lupin was watching them nervously and jerked his head toward him so Hermione would notice. "I think you deserve the chance to find out what a loving dad is like."
"But what if I'm a disappointment to him?" Her eyes never straying from her father's.
"He is your dad. If he is anything like mine, he will never be disappointed in you. He might be disappointed in your actions, but never you." Harry spoke in a gentle tone. "I know I've been giving the man a hard time, because I was disappointed in his actions, but I also know he has to be a good man, or my dad wouldn't consider him his best friend even now. What do you have to lose Hermione?"
"The Grangers," was her soft reply.
"They aren't going to obliviate them until you have made up your mind. Give it until Christmas. Live with him so you both can adjust. See what happens."
"I live it the Gryffindor dorms. It's not like we would be living together." She pointed out.
Harry turned towards the portrait of the Founders. "Grandmother, can Hermione and Remus live in your quarters, so they can learn to be a family?"
"I think that sounds like a perfect idea." She smiled tenderly at the astonished girl. "I think you will find that when the spells are removed it will be easier for you two to become a family, and my quarters would make a nice home for you."
"Thank you Lady Ravenclaw."
"Call me Grandmother if you are going to be living in my family's quarters. You will be considered family."
Hermione smiled in gratitude. "Thank you Grandmother."
"Are you ready to tell him and put him out of his misery?" Harry teased gently. At her decisive nod he waved for the two men to join them.
Sirius removed the spells and led the way back to the kids' side. Remus followed behind a little slower. He knew the fear running through his friend at the moment. Hadn't he had the same fears as he waited for Harry's reactions to his own story? He still had days when he was afraid his child would say he didn't want him for a dad. This had him gripping Remus's shoulder, as the tawny haired man took a seat beside him. He noticed the look of gratitude his best friend gave him, before he nervously looked towards the kids, or rather his daughter. He gave the shoulder a slight squeeze to encourage the other man to speak first.
Remus took a deep breath. He was so nervous. His whole future happiness depended on what this teenage girl said next. She had the power to break his heart completely in two. He had stayed awake all last night daydreaming about having a life raising his daughter, and she could put an end to those dreams with just a few words. He felt the silent squeeze of encouragement from Padfoot. Taking a few more calming breaths he finally opened his mouth.
"What have you decided?" He had meant for the words to come out strong and confident, but he wasn't fooled. It was more like a squeak, as his fear showed through in the question. He saw the glance she gave Harry and realized it was her way to gain confidence to speak as well. It seemed like he wasn't the only one nervous as Hell.
With a decisive nod she spoke in a more confident voice than he had used. "I want to do it. If you are really sure about wanting us to try I'm willing to give it a shot." She held up her hand when she saw the man's smile. "Please let me finish. I'll be honest I'm afraid." Seeing the man's face she realized he misunderstood. "Not of you or even the werewolf. That's not what I'm talking about. I'm afraid that if it doesn't work out, if you decide you don't want me later, that I won't have anywhere to go. Harry came up with the idea that we try this out without obliviating my par... the Grangers until after Christmas. That way it gives us both the time to see if we can make this work."
Remus felt his heart sink. He didn't know how well that would work out, not the part that they shouldn't wait too fix the Grangers memories, but the fact that she could use that to hold over his head if he said or did something she didn't like. How could he be a real father to her if he had to watch his every word? Sirius must have been thinking the same thing, because he started talking.
"Hermione I understand your fear," At the disbelieving look he added. "I really do, see I ran away summer after my sixth year and moved in with the Potters. I already knew and loved them, but Dad Potter told me that my moving in couldn't be something I did on a whim. I had to put everything, all my trust in that it would work out, and not worry about what to do if it didn't. He explained if I went into it like 'I have an out' than that would keep all of us on pins and needles the whole time." He smiled reassuringly. "You have to go into this with the attitude 'this is my dad and we are a family no matter what happens, we will always be family and he will be there for me', if you don't you not really giving this the chance it deserves."
Hermione looked questioningly at the other man. "Will you always be there for me?" The words were asked timidly.
"You have my solemn vow Leilani Tasha Lupin or Hermione Jean Granger. I will always be your father and do my very best to never let you down." He swore with a fire in his eyes.
"Who would I be? Leilani or Hermione?"
"Who do you want to be?" He answered with a question of his own.
"Can I ask why you were naming me that, since you hadn't even seen me before giving me the name?"
Remus smiled fondly in remembrance. "Your mum's family had a tradition for more than five generations before you. It was to name all of the females after a flower. When we found out you were a girl Lily decided even though she wanted to stick to tradition she wanted something more unique. She found the name Leilani and that it meant heavenly flower and from that day on, she was four months pregnant, you became Leilani. The Tasha part was when the Healer told us at her next checkup that you were due Christmas day. See Tasha means Christ's birthday in Italian, and your Mum was raised to believe in Christ. We never even considered a different name for you, even our friends were calling you Leilani Tasha before she was five months pregnant."
"I like that. The name and the story, but I think I want to see what I really look like before I decide which name to use. If that is okay with you? I mean I might look more like a Hermione than a Leilani. Does that make sense?" Hermione bit her lip nervously.
"You can use whichever name you prefer. The only one I really am insistent on is Lupin." He answered his own nervousness showing through.
"I would like to have the spells removed now, but I'm kind of nervous about going back to the dorm and classes tomorrow without Harry there for support." She admitted quietly.
"I thought we agreed you and your dad will be living in my quarters. " Rowena piped up. "You two will move in tonight. I'm sure Dobby will have no problems moving your things."
"And I would suggest that you don't go to classes tomorrow. You can stay in get acquainted with your new home and yourself. You can go back to classes on Friday. I believe that Andromeda Tonks believes Harry will be ready for classes then." Helga volunteered.
"I can't miss classes." Hermione looked scandalized.
"Yes Hermione, you can." Harry chuckled. "It won't be the end of the world if you miss one day."
Godric was also laughing. "I agree with my grandson. Plus you will need the time to adjust to having the spells removed. It might even be better for you to miss Friday and go on Monday. That would give you four days to get in tune with yourself."
"No, no, no I can't miss two days." At the looks she was receiving she hastily added. "I'll agree to miss tomorrow and go with Harry on Friday."
Sirius beamed at the girl. "That is fine and we can have a family dinner tomorrow with Reg and Draco. We can also invite Neville, so you will have a couple others already in the know. Hopefully that will make it easier for you on Friday."
"Thanks Sir."
"You have to know something Hermione. I was going to be your godfather, so I will expect you to call me Uncle Sirius or Uncle Siri unless we are doing something school related."
Before Hermione could say anything Remus informed them. "You are and will be her godfather. We will have the ceremony as soon as she decides what name she wants to use." This earned the man smiles from the other three and the Founders.
"Thank you both. I would love to have Uncle Sirius as my godfather." She looked at Harry for support before announcing. "I'm ready. Please remove the glamour and the spells."
Remus stood up and pulled his wand. He knew he would have to be the one to do this. Last night he made sure he looked up all the countercharms he would need for the spells that Dumbledore said he used. He began to cast one after another leaving the glamour until last. He was afraid that he would get sidetracked, if he saw his daughter's real appearance before he was done. Feeling so nervous that he thought he was going to sick up he cast the spell to remove the glamour. He gasped when he saw his cub's real looks. Standing in front of him was the perfect replica of Lily at that age, except Leilani had brown eyes to match his own.
Harry was staring with an open mouth at his best friend. He took in the long flowing wavy red hair, lighter brown eyes and the more petite frame of his best friend and evidently godsister. He had always thought Hermione was pretty but Leilani Lupin was beautiful. He would have to be using his wand and fists to keep the boys away from her. Maybe he could get Neville and even Draco to help him.
Hermione saw Sirius grinning from ear to ear at her. He thought about a mirror and the room provided a floor length one. He pointed to it. "Go see what Leilani Tasha Lupin looks like."
She got slowly from the bed and walked over to stand in front of the mirror. She kept her eyes downcast for a full minute before raising them to look at her reflection. She gasped in astonishment. "I'm beautiful." She couldn't take her eyes off of herself even when her new Uncle Sirius informed her.
"You look just like your mum, but you have your dad's eyes."
Harry's laughter rang out through the room. This had the desired effect of pulling the girl's eyes off of her reflection. "What's so funny Harry?"
"I was just thinking that was the opposite of what I had been told for the last two years." He admitted sheepishly when he realized everybody was staring at him. "From the moment Hagrid first met me, until my glamour was removed all anybody ever seemed to say was I looked like my dad but had my mum's eyes."
Hermione giggled having heard people say that to her friend. "Well what do you think Harry? Do I look more like a Leilani or a Hermione? Which name should I use?"
"Which name do you think you should use?" He shot back at her.
She spun around and looked in the mirror again. "I think,,, if nobody minds that I would like to be known as Leilani Tasha Lupin, the daughter of Remus and Lily Lupin." Her voice was almost a whisper by the time she finished.
Remus couldn't hold back the wolf anymore. He hurried to his cub's side and pulled her close into a hug. "I think I would really like it if you used Leilani, Cub. You have no idea how happy those words make me." He spoke into the beautiful, red tresses of his daughter. The very same hair, she had inherited from his late wife. His heart soared, even as the werewolf seemed to be howling in happiness inside. His cub had finally found her way into arms and nobody would take her away again. Or Merlin better have mercy on their souls because Moony would tear them apart.
Well another chapter done. What did you think of the new twist? You can thank PhoenixGrifyndor for that. She asked about Hermione being Remus and Lily's child and even suggested spells to have caused Hermione's attitude. After reading her review I thought it would be a great way to have Hermione change some from her canon attitude. Now hopefully Leilani will let me write her, since Hermione seemed to write herself no matter what I wanted.
Two more things. You may have noticed that I have changed my cover for this story. I want to thank Demonic Hope for doing that for me. I picked out different people including Daniel Radcliffe as Harry. I will be putting a link on my profile for the pics of the people from this story as I see them. Even the Founders have pictures for you to see.
The second thing since it has now been a year since I started this story that was to be a one-shot, and I have been lucky enough to have people actually seem to like this story. I'm going to reward you by saying that if you check out the pics you might notice a couple of things on there that are spoilers for this story. I won't say when they will happen but I definitely intend for them too.
Thank you all for giving me this last year of actually feeling like I have accomplished something. I have had almost 50,000 hits on this story, on 21 communities, 433 followers, 308 favs and 324 reviews for ten chapters. I'm honored, humbled and truly thankful for you all.
