So this part was meant to be in last chapter but it got cut off... so this is a very short chapter since I made a boo boo, sorry.

The red headed girl prided herself on many things; her acting skills, her strategic mind, her ability to be apathetic, and her looks. She wasn't the most beautiful woman, but she was pretty and she could use it to her advantage. She was a bit shocked and jealous when she got back to the penthouse to find the girl from the charity sitting in the living room. There was nothing going on between Bruce and her, Kayla knew she was a pity case, but that didn't stop her from feeling possessive of her new domain.

"Who are you?" the woman's voice was soft, sweet, and, most important, real. She wasn't acting to try and make her feel at ease. Kayla was a little upset Bruce wasn't there to greet her, her fear of worrying him faded into a bitterness at him for making her worry.

"My name's Kayla Layne," she made her way to the window, looking out at the view was her favorite pass time between training to fight and reading, "do you know where Bruce is? I would like to see him."

The girls were interrupted when Bruce and Alfred entered the large room, "good, you met." Bruce approached the two, his smile strained.

"Bruce, is everything alright?" Kayla looked at him confused; he seemed off. Well more skittish than usual.

"Everything is fine, I'll be going to a press meeting tomorrow morning," Bruce glanced to Rachael before looking at Kayla. The girl's encouraging words, both to him and Batman, was still buzzing in the back of his head.

"Oh? Do you want me to go and keep you company," Kayla smiled then, "I know how boring they can be to you."

"No," Bruce blurted, regaining his composure he smiled at the girl he took in until she could care and fight for herself, "no, I just wanted to thank you for helping me earlier in case I can't tomorrow."

Kayla walked to him making him look her in the eye, "is something wrong? Is the Joker threatening you now too?"

"No, everything is fine," Bruce turned and made his way to his room, "I'll see you tomorrow, Kayla. Rachael."

Both girls were struck silent by him, one knowing what was happening the other in the dark.

"Poor man," Kayla sighed before looking to Rachael, "you know more than me, will Bruce be alright?"

Rachael squirmed before turning too, making her way to the guest room Alfred set up for her, "everything will be fine, get some sleep."

Kayla didn't like being the odd man out, so she decided that night, as she lay in her bed staring up at the ceiling, that she would follow Bruce to that press conference and see what was happening.

Next chapter will be longer, I promise!
