"Favourite colour?," Clary turned and looked down at the heavenly boy that voiced the question. In the dim attic which she currently resigned, Jace was leaning back on his elbows, his legs trailing across the floorboards and a smirk plastered over his full lips. As the sun filtered through the dirt coating the window pane and shone down on Jace he looked like a model from a worn old photograph. It took everything Clary had to stifle the urge to draw him.

"Don't have one." she lied flatly. " Why do you ask?" Clary replied. He stood up swiftly and stepped towards her.

"Thought you needed to take your mind off things. And I want to get to know you."

Another step.

"Maybe I don't want to know you." Clary stated, suddenly aware of the little space between them. It was making the tiny hairs on the back of her neck stand with...a self protective instinct? Maybe it was hate? Maybe it was the fact he had stepped even closer and seemed to loom like a grizzly bear.

He chuckled. "But that wouldn't be true. And it's quite rude and un ladylike to lie." Clary swallowed.

"Like you know anything remotely substantial when it comes to manner" she scoffed and swallowed hard as he leaned his forehead down. She turned her cheek and it hit his full, lush lips.

"I am a perfect gentleman, Clarissa." he whispered huskily in her ears.

She let out a nervous giggle and cleared her throat to get rid of the awful sound she just uttered. Clarissa Morgenstern didn't...giggle.

"Green." she told him abruptly, the word tumbling off her lips on its own accord, and flicked her eyes away, suddenly nervous.

"Green?" he asked.

"Yes, like an evergreen...green. The colour of trees."

"Hmmm." Jace hummed thoughtfully.

"My turn. Why am I here right now?"

His golden eyes focused on her green ones as she turned her gaze back towards him. "Are you asking that as in the question to your existence, or have you blanked out the last few minutes? For the latter...well I walked with you up those steps" he nodded towards the stairs leading down. "And for the former well... I think that's something you need to discuss with your parents as they were the ones to bring you into this world." His eyes widened suddenly and he chocked on a laugh. "Well, parent." he corrected.

Clary hit him hard on the shoulder and glared at him while trying to remain unaffected. The jerk thought he could joke around without hurting her! Did he really think that she was that unaffected by the death of her father, no matter if she was the one that killed him. She looked towards the ceiling and blinked a couple of times ridding her emerald orbs of tears. She calmly restated her question more specifically. Jace was an idiot, and in those few minutes she dismissed any feelings she'd ever had connected to him. "Why did you bring me here to hide me?" she restated.

"Nobody really comes up here, at all-it's like Alec's 5th birthday party- and-" he stopped as Clary icily cut him off.

"But if someone were to come up there'd be nowhere to hide." It was a fact. All around the pair there were only dusty floorboards that groaned when you walked and barren walls that were peeling of there wall paper. Their creamy colour was starting to yellow and brown edges were curling away from the wall as if they were an escaping ex-convict. Cobwebs resigned in the corners and were so thick that you could no longer see through their fine weaving strands. A tiny window, the size of a miniature rectangle was set deeply into the wall farthest from the stairs and allowed no means of escaping if the situation were dire.

"Well no one is going to come up!" Jace exclaimed, his voice pitching. Clarissa was about to reply when a creak cut her off. She paused, listening for what seemed to be an astronomical amount of time but when she opened her mouth to talk again another sounded.

"What's tha-" Clary cut Jace off again with a shush.

"Jace!" a voice called out, its deep bellow drifting up the stairs.

For a relaxing moment Clary thought Alec was the body that belonged to the sound and as a black head bobbed up the top steps she felt her suspicions confirmed. But then green eyes, so much like her own yet quite different all the same appeared above the worn old wood.

Choal, Clary had time to think before the Clave members eyes settled on her tense form.

"Choal!" Jace breathed at the same time the black haired, green-eyed boy who was definitely not Alec stated in a cool voice.

"Jace. I don't suppose you'd like to tell me who this is?"

Jonathon POV.

'thump'.

The knife struck its target with a very satisfying thud as Jonathon Morgenstern prepared himself to strike again. Sweat pasted his pale blond hair his forehead and it made his bare chest feel clammy against the cool air surrounding him.

She killed their father. thump.

She killed his father.

thump!

She almost killed Sebastian.

Thump! Thump! Thump!

She killed his army

THUMP!

And now she would be killed.

He threw another dagger, its metal twinkling innocently as it turned over and over in the air, a perfect arc before sticking hilt deep in the rich wooden target.

He would kill Clarissa Adele Morgenstern if it were the last thing he did. He swore on the demon Lilith. He swore on the angel.
