Clary POV.
Jace was still sleeping when Clary regained enough control of both her mind and breath to take into account her surroundings. She knew she should probably wake him up, tell him what she just witnessed, but took a moment to just...stare.
There was no doubt that Jace was beautiful, his face was chiseled and his cheekbones were sharp enough Clary figured they probably cut the air when he walked. But right now, curled slightly and splayed across the mattress, a pile of soft duvet resting on his wavering chest, and light spilling on the scene to ravish him in a golden haze, he was breathtaking. His lips looked so plush and...kissable.
They were just begging her to walk up to that bed and...
Suddenly Clary found herself breathless for an entirely different reason then before.
"You're staring at me," she heard him murmur, as if he could see her through his eyelids. "Why are you staring at me? I know it can't be my breathtaking beauty, you seem quite immune."
"Are you awake enough to have a coherent conversation?" she answered instead.
"The sun is up, so I am up, and if the clouds shall cover the sun, well then i shall cover myself as well. I haven't yet decided what path to chose," he rambled, still half asleep.
"So that's a no" she mumbled to herself, trying to ignore the sickening twinge of appeal to his adorable remark.
Just then a shadow past over the room; a cloud shielding the sun.
"Well, there goes my day, sun's gone so I am too," Jace started to move the covers above his head, "Time to go back to sleep," he mumbled.
"Jace!" Clary half-shouted, trying to get his attention and stop her train of thought. "Jace I-I...I need you to actually listen to me!" she pleaded.
He just lifted the covers higher along the bed. "Help me, Jace!" she shout-whispered.
Jace shot into an upright position, suddenly very alert. His golden eyes filled with alarm as they registered her voice, her stature. Clary felt it infest her own eyes as panic overtook her. It crashed into her like a wave and she couldn't help but collapse onto the bed next to Jace."They-they were outside. They were talking...together! Together, talking as a pair! Jace, wha-what do we- is she a-did she-I..."
"Hey. Hey, hey Clary don't panic," he came to her shivering form, so weak she despised herself, and laid a hand on her back. "Don't panic...it's okay. I need you to tell me what happened though...Clarissa?"
With that she snapped her head up. It was her name, coming off of his beautiful lips, sounding so right that she couldn't even think...what was she thinking. She shook her head subtly to rid her mind of the thoughts growing. Why. Why were they so steadily increasing? Why was Jace suddenly a tumor in her mind?
"Aline. And Sebastian. Together, conversing in the backyard." And he saw me. He used to beat me. I'm scared, she wanted to tell him. "As a pair."
Jace cursed. "And I'd thought she was worth of my time too."he quipped sarcastically.
"Jace!," Clary scolded. "Can you be serious for just one second?!"
"I am!" he protested. "But she's a traitor, I mean really, stooping to allying with Verlac, the Morgenstern's for Angel's sake-"
Clary cut him off. "Not all Morgenstern's are Valentine, or Jonathon for that matter," as much as she didn't want it to sting, having him group them together, reminder her she was just like the rest of them, it absolutely did.
And that one comment sent all the earlier ones of attraction flying from her mind.
"No Clary!" he exclaimed rushing at her and stroking her arm. "I-I didn't mean- you know-you-or, I, it-you...you're not your father! Or brother! At all! I-you-liste-"
"Your eloquence seems to have run away from you, hasn't it?" she asked quietly, pushing him away. It didn't matter how she felt about Jace right now. They had more urgent matters on hand. "He saw me. I'm almost positive he saw me see him. Jace..." she looked up at him.
He used to beat me-threaten he'd kill if it came down to it.
"We need to do something or someone is going to get killed. Weather it be Aline, or weather she's just a traitor that'll help, that did help, I don't know. All I know is that Sebastian somehow knew where I was and Aline was suddenly with him, smiling, interacting! If it's not me to go first, I'll be soon. In fact- I should, I should just leave-"
It was true. She should leave. There was no logical reason to risk the lives of household for her safety- besides the fact that she was too afraid to up and move. She heaved a sigh.
"You're not leaving," she heard Jace whisper, barely catching the words. "You can't." he said stronger now. "Sorry but it's too dangerous and-and you just can't! You're not even fully healed yet!"
"Jace..."she looked up at him through her lashes. "Why do you care?"
This seemed to render him momentarily speechless until he said, wavering, " I don't"
Clary swallowed. "You...okay." it sounded fragile though, her words. She tried again, "Alright." she blinked fast and realized how close Jace's face was actually to her. How that thinking of his face made her think of his lips. And suddenly those thoughts of attraction were back, and she found herself wishing he did, in fact , care. And then she was staring at those lips, so pink and soft and plush and smooth and...she wanted to crush hers to his in that very moment. Let him run his hands over her, kiss her everywhere, show her that someone out there loved her.
In that moment he was just Jace and she was just Clary. Two teenagers that wanted to share themselves.
And it wasn't her imagination when he started to lean closer, those lips swallowing her sight, and then those gorgeous eyes overwhelming her senses. She couldn't even tell when Jace in his all actuality ended and when the air began. Because that air was so tainted with his scent of intoxicating spices and sunlight. Like a pure, clean day with the brightest sun shining down. Mixed with a sexy leather jacket.
A weird combination indeed, but mesmerizing in every sense."You don't care." she whispered to him, sending delicious flickers through her body when her lips brushed his."About me ?"
And when he neared even closer, those lips just a hairsbreadth away from hers, so close she felt their plump edges tingling against her own, he spoke,
"I don't even know anymore Clarissa. I can't know,"
And then he...
left.
Later that morning Jace left to talk with his siblings. Talk. For. Hours.
Clary dared to walk in the hall, for the rest of the residents were distracted with talking and Clary was alone. With Sebastian.
She made it two steps into the hallway before she was slammed into the wall, hot breath in her ear, hands pinning her arms above her head. She went to yell when one hand shifted from her arms and covered her mouth.
"How was your morning, dear" she heard an all-too-familiar voice snarl in her ear.
He was mad.
Really mad
"See anything interesting"
Really REALLY mad.
His hand came off her mouth but her pride overcame her and she didn't scream. He didn't deserve her screams. "Not particularly, just some trash in the yard that needed taking care of." She answered.
His face flared with uncontrollable anger and his ears reddened, eyes blackened. He picked her up by her collar and flung her at the wall, her back cracking in a painful, too-much way that pulled both muscle and vertebrae. The boom resonated throughout the house.
When Clary coughed it was flecked with blood. "You shouldn't have done that. They'll come running any minute." she rasped.
"And? I can kill all of those fools within seconds, not even. All I have to do is snap there petty necks and they'll be done!" he spat, hands still fisted at her own neck. They realized this at the same time, Clary almost relieving herself of a scream before Sebastian grasped at her throat. He lifted her up by the muscle and stringy organs residing there, watching as he pleasurably crushed them so close to there breaking point. "You ran! When you saw us! We could have talked but you left and ran to that goddamn angelboy! Now I'm gonna have to kill them ckary! Kill Them All!"
"Why?" Clary choked out.
"Why? Why?" He chuckled without amusement. "I can hear them talking Clarissa. They know! You told him who we were because of that conversation i had with the Penhallow! Like she was a traitor," he laughed again in the same tone. "If that girl actually took the time to let her two brain cells work together, i doubt she'd ever be smart enough to keep a secret."
"So Aline's...not...a traitor" Clary rasped a breath in, just barely accumulating enough oxygen to beat her heart.
Sebastian went on like he never heard her. "I wouldn't have had to eavesdrop if it wasn't for you running away like some witness of a crime! So technically, it's all your fault!" he spat directly in her face as he talked, eyes capturing her world like Jace's did so little a time ago. "Their going to tell that Clave, you realize. Because your fatheris wanted for the worst offences there are. Do you even try to think anymore! The Clave is going to come , and then you and me...well...let's just say I'm not going anywhere with the Clave," the name sounded like a curse on his lips. "And I'm not going anywhere without you! So I'll have to kill them. All of them."he deadpanned and watched her reaction.
"Them?"she choked out. "Not...me?"
"I love you too much, I'm afraid. It makes me weak."he said lightly, sounding as if he almost wanted to care. And he did. Once upon a time.
"This..."she paused to scrape a breath in and heave it out. "Is...Not...Love"
And that's when two sets of doors flew open, one revealing Jace and the others, the other leaving a panting Jonathon Christopher Morgenstern, equip with a blade glinting with fresh blood.
And eyes wanting to shed more.
I love cliffies.
******But those reviews though...please! Just 2*******
