"He's not going to disappear.",
Dean stated, breaking the heavy silence in the small hostpitall room. Sam didn't even have the energy to create a bitch face. Dean sighed as he watched Sam's hand tighten around Gabriel's pale bandaged hand. The younger Winchester looked horrible. Dean thought he resembled a zombie. The dark bags under Sam's bloodshot eyes only strengthened the resemblance Sam now had to the walking dead.
Dean sighed as Sam's eyes started to shut for the third time in just ten minutes. Sam tipped forwards in his chair. Balthazar smirked and counted, "Three... Two... O-" Sam jerked awake. Dean glared at Balthazar but it was weak. He walked over to Sam and said, "I can watch over Gabriel for you Sam. Nothing is going to happen. You did it Sammy. You saved him."
Sam shook his head and didn't even look at Dean. He muttered, "I can't leave him Dean." "Sam you can't stay up forever. The pipsqueak isn't going anywhere." Sam glared at Dean and but his gaze shot back to Gabriel. Sam couldn't imagine leaving him in this state. He laid in the hospital bed that seemed to swallow the small agent. Gabriel was so pale he might have blended into the sheets of not for the burn marks and bruises. Sam was sure he'd would have a panic attack if he couldn't listen to Gabriel's beautiful heartbeat and feel the weak pulse pushing against his fingers. He wouldn't sleep until Gabriel was awake for at least a few hours. Dean could tell him to rest all night but Sam would always say no.
Gabriel woke to a hand in his own and chocolate brown. At least, that was all that registered at first before the blinding light forced his eyes to snap shut. He knew that brown. It was safety, warmth, comfort, lingering touches, geeky comments, and dimples. A name found it's way into Gabriel's thoughts. Sam. It was Sam.
Gabriel toom a moment to cherish the feeling of Sam's hand surrounding his and warming it. Gabriel clutched Sam's hand and listened to the sounds of a chair being pushed back before he heard, "Gabe?" Sam sounded so hopeful that Gabriel couldn't bare to disappoint him. He braced himself for the painful light but instead only saw Sam's face. Needless to say, it was damn near perfect wake up.
Sam's head had blocked the light and Gabriel smiled as he watch the light shine around his communicators head making him look other worldly. Gabriel opened his mouth and flinched at the croak that had taken over his voice. Sam was already moving. He handed a glass of water to Gabriel who drank gratefully. The second he could talk Gabriel breathed out the most important thing in his world, "Sam."
Gabriel looked at his hand in Sam's and gasped. He closed his eyes tight and built up a wall against the incoming tsunami of memories it was useless. He was aware of Sam's hand on his shoulder and he was brought back to reality by a harsh shake.
Sam's eyes were wild. He squeezed Gabriel's shoulder and demanded, "Tell me what's wrong! Gabe please! Talk to me." Gabriel nodded and said quietly, "Killing my own brother isn't my finest moment." Sam smiled, actually freaking smiled! Gabriel was shocked by this unexpected reaction. "You didn't kill Lucifer. Dean did."
Gabriel searched Sam's face for any lies but found non. He leaned into Sam's touch when a large hand brushed his bed head away from his face. Gabriel met Sam's eyes and froze. Sam was looking at him like he'd just uncovered a treasure chest full of gold. He frowned and asked, "Are you okay Sam?" Sam nodded jerkily and said, "Y-. Yes. You're okay."
Gabriel opened his mouth to tell Sam that's not what he had asked but only a single symbol escaped before lips were on his.
