Marceline didn't mind kids, in fact she wanted her own little monsters in the future. The only thing she didn't like about kids and their schools were - the after school traffic and the fact her music had to be kept down to a minimum. She was used to having her windows down, wind in her hair, and blasting the music that had influenced her and her brother to start their own band. She rubbed her hands over her face and crossed her arms, although they had moved from the entrance of the building, they were but a few feet away from the exit.
"Oh my god..! This is such bull-"
"Marceline!"
"Sorry, Bonnie.. it's just whose dumb enough to NOT GO WHEN THE LIGHT IS GREEN!? GREEN MEANS GO PEOPLE, NOT STOP."
"Well, maybe they're in a predicament in their car..."
"No! They're on their god da.. I mean STUPID PHONE SO NOW THEY CAN'T SEE THE LIGHT CHANGING."
Finally, the line began to move and Marceline put her hands back on the wheel before releasing her frustrations out.
"Hallelujah! The lines begins to move! Congratulations! You finally learned how to drive! Dumb ass..."
"MARCELINE!"
"SORRY! Sorry!.. I'm not used to this whole 'virgin ears' thing.. Just give me time and I'll get accustomed to it. I'm sorry."
The junior took note of how tense her crush was when she gripped the wheel tighter than normal, her usually tanned knuckles becoming lighter. She knew the older girl was doing her best not to yell at the van causing the trouble out of frustration, she wanted to set a good impression on her younger sister. With a small smile she leaned over from her seat in the middle and placed her hand upon the older girl's shoulder, her warm lips centimeters away from the tanned ear as she whispered softly.
"Thank you, Marceline."
"Don't thank me just yet, we're gonna make one more stop before I drop you both off." smirked the senior as she turned in another direction, opposite of the way to the Blythe house.
"And where is that exactly?" questioned the pink haired girl with a brow raised.
"It's a surprise, you'll both like it. Promise."
"I'm not big on surprises..."
"That's a lie! I surprised you once at school with a coffee and you liked it!"
"That's because I figured you were getting me one once you asked 'Hey how do you take your coffee from Chet's?'. That's not totally a surprise."
"Pish posh, my dear. Just sit back and let me drive, if you don't like it I'll make it up to you and Goliad, alright?"
With a sigh the older sister sat back with her arms crossed as she looked out the window, she felt a small hand tug upon her shirt - catching her attention she looked down into blue eyes that matched hers.
"Where are we going..?" asked the youngest Blythe with a worried expression.
"It's a surprise from Marceline to both of us, so I don't know."
Hazel eyes looked in the rear view mirror and could see the child's expression as clear as day, her smile grew softer before she spoke and took another turn.
"Don't worry, Goliad, I'm taking you somewhere I've gone to since I was your age."
"Since you were her age? Do you mean you still go there?"
"Occasionally. The owner knows me by now, I used to go there twice a week with my family growing up."
"The owner knows you too? Just what is this place?"
The black car came to a stop in front of an older looking diner. There were quite a few cars parked in the lot - not enough to completely fill the lot, but definitely close to it.
"Well, we're here." the senior said as she got out of the car and went around to open the car door for her crush and little sister.
Upon stepping out of the vehicle, Bonnibel looked up to read the sign with a puzzled expression.
"Pep's?"
"Yeah. Peppermint has been running this joint for YEARS, they've got the best food AND the greatest milkshakes on the PLANET. I figured after a long day of school work we could all use one, that okay?"
"Of course but.. his name is Peppermint?"
"Well that's what he tells everyone to call him anyways, he's not very secretive it's just - he never gives out his real name. I mean it doesn't bother me so I don't question it. C'mon this is all my treat."
Bonnibel grabbed her younger sisters hand, Marceline - upon locking her car - opened the door to the restaurant for her crush and her younger sister. She gave a big smile to the short man behind the bar as he was making a sundae for a young couple.
"Hey! Pep my man!"
"Oh! Marceline! Haven't seen you here in a while," the older man handed over the dessert to his customers before retreating from behind the counter and walked over to the taller girl with a smile, "how have you been?"
"Can't complain. I mean I could, but it would take too long."
"I'm always up for a good chat if you visit more!" Peppermint laughed before glancing over to the two other girls, "Oh? Who are these fine young ladies?"
"Pep, this is my special friend, Bonnibel and her younger sister, Goliad."
"Special you say? Well it's always nice to meet new people, how are you both?"
"We're both good thank you so much for asking." smiled the older sister while her younger sister still hid behind the pink haired girl.
"I take it your sister is shy?"
"Just a bit, she's not too keen on strangers, but that's just how she's always been."
"How about this, to make a good introduction and since you're one of my favorite customers special friends - whatever you order is on the house this time."
"Oh! Mr. Peppermint I-"
"Please just Peppermint is fine!"
"Peppermint. Don't get me wrong, I'm completely flattered but I-"
"Before you say anything Ms. Bonnibel I won't take no for an answer. Please, just enjoy whatever you choose and don't worry about a thing."
"Thank you so much, Peppermint. Say thank you, Goliad."
"T-Thank you.." said the child as she came out from her hiding spot.
The man laughed, "Well, Marceline, your favorite booth is open. Why don't you all have a seat and a server will be over with you three shortly?"
"All right! Let's go!"
The Blythe sisters followed Marceline without question to a booth seated on the far left of the restaurant, the older girl slipping into her usual spot with ease followed by the two sisters sitting beside each other. The older girl didn't really notice how much of an impact she made upon the younger Blythe until she looked at her.
Goliad shifted in her seat uncomfortably as she glanced around the building, trying her best to avoid people' eye contact and trying her hardest it almost seemed to avoid the very person who had brought her here to begin with. The senior thought maybe she should at least try to break the ice with a joke of some kind.
"Hey, Goliad?"
The youngest girl look at her wearily, "Yes?"
"Do you like science?"
"Y..Yes?"
"Do you like jokes?"
"If they're funny.."
"Well I got a good one for ya! Wanna hear it?"
"Sure." Goliad's tense body softened a bit as she waited for the joke.
"Hm.. How did that old one go again?... AH! Yes! Why did hydrogen marry carbon?"
The younger girl shrugged.
"Because they bonded so well!"
Bonnibel laughed fairly hard at that one, her sister joining in with the fun before speaking with a wide smile.
"I have one!" Goliad said excitedly.
"Alright let's hear it!" said Marceline with a smile.
"Where do you put dirty dishes?"
This time the oldest girl shrugged, "Where?"
"In the zinc!"
Again Bonnibel responded with a laugh as she covered her mouth with her hand, Marceline had to think of it for a moment before finally laughing as well. Goliad giggled as she looked at her sister.
"That was a pretty good one. I've never heard that one." admitted the senior as she rested her arms on the table.
"Goliad is quite the comedian in our family." said Bonnibel as she smiled down at her sister proudly.
"Oh? Then what's your talent?"
"My sister is real smart! She has memories of photographs!"
"Memories of photographs?"
"She mean's photographic memory. I only have to read any words or see something once and remember it forever."
"Oh yeah? Prove it."
"Last month in Mr. Petrikov's class your quiz grade came out to be a C- because you couldn't answer number eight correctly. The questioned read 'a ball is thrown horizontally with a speed of 25 m/s from the top of a tower 20 meters high. Assuming level ground below and negligible air resistance, what will be the magnitude of the vertical velocity component when the ball hits the ground?' and you put '10 m/s' instead of the correct answer which was '20 m/s'."
"...Yeah see that doesn't count because I don't even remember what we learned last week in that class..."
"We learned the beginning of momentum!" laughed the junior.
"You hear that Goliad? She's yelling at me!"
"I'm not yelling!"
"I'm in an abusive relationship! Someone help me! Goliad! Stop her!"
The youngest Blythe couldn't help but laugh as she saw her sister's cheeks light up.
"Abusive!? If anything YOU abuse ME!"
"I've never harmed you a day in your life! You're the one who hits me!"
"I never! Goliad don't listen to her!" said Bonnibel as she looked down at her sister.
"Just stop her and save me Goliad! Please!" begged Marceline as she gave a pathetic upset expression towards the youngest girl.
"Oh you stop!" Bonnibel reached over and slapped her crush who threw her hands up.
"See! Abuse!"
"Remind me why we're still friends..." said Bonnibel as their waitress was approaching.
"Well, there is a main reason, but we'll save that for later." said Marceline with a smirk before turning to the waitress.
Marceline again drove up to the curb at the Blythe house and walked around her car to let out Bonnibel and Goliad. The youngest Blythe excitedly hugged the senior before smiling up at her.
"Thanks for today! It was great!"
"Sure thing, kiddo! Anytime!"
"You'll be over again soon right?"
"Well, if you sister wants to bring me over then sure!"
"Oh please, Bonnie! Can she come over again?"
"I don't know.." the older sister smiled as she crossed her arms, "Should I still let her over?"
"Yes! I like hanging out with both of you!"
"Well.. alright. I'll bring her over again soon, now get inside I'll be inside in a bit to help you with homework."
"Okay," Goliad hugged the older girl again before turning around and running towards the house, "Bye Marcy!"
Once the front door was closed the senior raised an eyebrow.
"Marcy? I haven't been called that in years."
"I like it, I think it's cute." said Bonnibel as she stood in front of the older girl.
"Oh yeah? Bonnie's way better." Marceline said as she smiled down at the junior.
"No way, honestly though.. thank you for today. Goliad's never really been that excited around any of my friend's before."
"Of course. I wanted you both to have a nice time today."
"Well, I guess you do deserve a little something back."
"I don't want your money if that's what your thinking for today..."
"No. Just close your eyes."
"You're not gonna hit me right..."
"No! Just trust me."
The senior scrunched up her nose before closing her eyes and stood with her hands in her pockets. She felt the younger girl's hand pull down on her shirt collar and leaned her forward slightly, she then felt warm lips against her own. It took her only a moment to realize what was going on before returning the kiss and wrapping her arms loosely around the younger girl's thin frame, a blush rising to her cheeks as their lips moved together.
Both girls pulled away slowly before giving each other a goofy smile.
"Well, that was a thing." said Marceline as she rubbed the back of her neck.
"Yes, it was, but don't expect it every time you do something for my family. That was returning the favor of a nice day which I'm glad we had."
"Hey, no problem. I like hanging out with you and now with Goliad. She's a good kid, real smart too."
"Our parents were 'blessed with intellectual children with their mind set on high goals' as other people like to say. All three of us have been honor roll students since kindergarten, even my brother was valedictorian in high school graduating class. He graduated with a 4.0 and three academic scholarships for science to his choice schools."
"What the hell!? Are you serious?!"
"What's the big deal?"
"Wait wait wait.. do you really not see the big deal?"
"No...?"
"Okay.. let me ask this question.. what's YOUR GPA?"
"Hm.. as of now... about a 3.8 why?"
"Beautiful and smart... are you even real?"
"I'm about as real as you are, but I really should head inside. It's getting late."
"Wait! We didn't even come up with a new plan for Luella!"
"We can give that some time, at some point either she'll have to give up or by some miracle we get a chance to show her you want to be with someone else."
"I'm kind of praying for either right now.. but you're right. Listen, by the way.. um.."
"Um..?"
"M-My band and I are having practice tomorrow and we were wondering - well.. I was wondering.. would you maybe want to come over and.. I don't know.. I mean you don't have to it's just an idea and I-"
Bonnibel put her finger upon the taller girls lips with a smile before speaking.
"I'd love to."
Marceline smiled still with the finger on her lips before giving it a small kiss, "Alright. Well.. I'll see you tomorrow then."
"Tomorrow it is.. Goodnight, Marceline."
"G'night, Bonnie."
The junior hugged her crush tightly before releasing her and walking to her house. Once inside she pressed her back onto the door frame with a smile, she closed her eyes and sighed happily, but of course that was short lived.
"So.. you want to tell me about this 'friend' of yours?" came a voice.
She opened her eyes to see her brother taking a bite from his apple and staring at his younger sister with an unamused expression, she rolled her eyes and pushed away from their front door and pulled on his shirt to temporarily pull him along.
"Well, if anyone should know first I guess it's you. C'mon, oh brother of mine, let me spin you a tale while mom makes dinner."
A/N: Again, I know this is long over due but.. let's all have a 'family talk' at the honesty table. Guys, I know a lot of you like this story and I'm grateful that you do.. but I'm losing interest in the story honestly BUT I'M NOT GOING TO ABANDON IT. I WILL finish it and you guys WILL see more updates until the end. The pairing, although one I love, just isn't at the top of my list right now so I guess that's why I'm losing motivation to write this story and take longer to update (well that and school. C'mon guys I'm older than some of you and college sucks but anyways) I thought it would be fair to tell you guys straight up how I'm feeling rather than leaving you in the dark. There will be another chapter after this and I will continue - same with BATVQ II it will be done. Again, just lacking some motivation right now but I'm sure the spark will come soon. Thanks for understanding guys really.
