Slugterra Fanfic
Chpt 16: It's a Date!
As expected, Blakk was pleased with my performance on my first task, and, surprisingly, so was Nacho, though he didn't say it himself but Blakk mentioned he was impressed.
Blakk then allowed me a short rest at the Citadel before giving me two more assignments, which I both completed with similar standards.
As the days and weeks went by, I found myself enjoying running errands for Blakk.
The media had mysteriously left me alone, I had access to Blakks workshops and laboratories, not to mention I was under his protection while doing an errand for him, not that it proved much of a difference anyway.
And for once in my life down in Slugterra, I was content.
The problems started after the Annual Slug-ball tournament. From what I heard, it appeared Blakk tried to cheat his way to victory but was once again thwarted by the Shane Gang, who stepped in as substitutes for the injured team.
I kept getting called back up to deal with some pesky protestors so some days I didn't even make it home, let alone grab some shut-eye!
Blakk seemed to notice my lack of enthusiasm and reluctance to come when called, increased.
One day after dealing collecting a parcel for Blakks scientist, Quentin, also known as Crazy Q by me and the guards, who I had become good mates with, Fletcher, a rookie, came to fetch me after I had delivered my parcel to Quentins lab.
I turned around to see Fletcher coming towards me. I could tell it was him by the freckles around his mouth, since the uniform covered everything else up.
"Hey, rookie! What's up?" I greeted him.
He saw me and smiled. "Not much thanks, Kaiya, just got a request for you to go see Blakk, now", His smiled dropped, "I hope you haven't done anything wrong, Kaiya. I'd hate to see you go."
"Don't worry 'bout me. I can handle Blakk. Thanks anyway" I waved a goodbye as I headed for Blakks office.
Thanks to all the time I've spent in the main building I had a mental map of the place, so I didn't get lost.
Soon enough I turned up at the huge double doors that lead into Blakks office.
Knocking twice to let him know I was coming in, I strode in to find Blakk discussing something with Twist.
My heart stopped at the sight of him.
Shit.
I had completely forgotten Twist lived here and worked for Blakk. I had hardly ever seen him, as he took on more challenging tasks alongside Blakk.
Both heads turned my way as I froze in the doorway.
Blakk quickly finished what he was saying to Twist then directed his attention to me.
"I got your message, Blakk" I said as Twist walked past me, smiling evilly.
I swear he does that on purpose!
Trying to ignore Twist, I focused on what Blakk was talking about.
"Good, to hear. But you must be wondering why I called you here. Well, I'll tell you. You seem to be getting distracted lately and your performance hasn't been up to your usual standard."
He got the last part right. All the jobs I've been doing have been having worse and worse results.
Last night Blakk sent me to get another package. I was too tired to care and I walked straight into a ambush set up by the Shane Gang. If I hadn't had Skies automatic attack sequence I would've lost the package. That doesn't mean I got off scot-free. Skies had a nasty dent in his side from a Rammstone and I nearly got melted by Elis fusion shot.
More often than not, that mecha had saved my life.
Blakk seemed to see my silent agreement and he continued.
"Now, Kaiya, I know this is none of my business but why is this happening?"
I looked at him, fighting down the shame and anger building up inside.
I took a breath to steady myself before speaking.
"The problem is that I'm not getting enough rest and time to myself. No sooner have I finished a task, you find another for me to do! Sometimes I don't even get home, let alone any sleep! And you honestly think I'll be fine without a week of sleep? Don't think so!"
Even though I tried, I couldn't stop a lick of accusation tinge my voice. I watched Blakk carefully, hoping I wouldn't get in trouble by the way I spoke to him.
But when he spoke, he sounded genuinely concerned for me. It's a wonder he hadn't dominated Slugterra yet.
"Kaiya, how far away do you live?" He asked after some deep thought.
I was taken aback by his concern and it took me a moment to answer him.
"2-3 hours drive on Skies back at normal speed. 70 minutes at his max." I answered automatically. It was a habit whenever someone asked about my precious mecha.
Blakk frowned "So are you telling me, it takes you at least an hour to get here and back? On your mecha beast?", He sat back, fingers steepled.
"Yes."
"Well, we will have to fix that, now!" He leaned forward again, his green eyes bright with ideas.
"How?" I asked tentatively.
Blakk chuckled "I can give you a room here in my Citadel! You're very valuable to me, Kaiya. You, your mecha and your raw talent! I would hate to lose such a gifted girl like you, simply because it takes her to long to get here!"
I stared at him in disbelief for at least a full minute.
"W-what?" I finally managed.
"Well? I thought it would be a generous offer," Blakk shrugged, "But if you want to live where-ever you may be, I'm fine with that. I'll just expect the same results everyday."
"L-let me think about." I managed to say, my head reeling from this surprising offer.
Blakk dismissed me with a wave of his hand. "Please do, but try and get your answer in to me by tomorrow. Have a pleasant day."
After leaving Blakks office, I found my roster had been mysteriously emptied of jobs.
So I decided to mount up my mecha and head home.
After arriving home and ordering pizza, I sat on my couch, drawing up a list of pros and cons about moving into Blakks Citadel.
Jet seemed to sense something was up, and came over to comfort me.
"No, Jet No! Not on the couch!" I giggled as she leapt on me and started licking me.
After she eventually stopped and curled up next to me, I started my list.

I read over my 'Pro' section once more, thinking about any other pieces before strating on my 'Con' list.
Con

Small/simple room?
Twist?
The last one I wasn't to sure about. Would Twist be a problem? I knew he was a distraction, but not really a problem. I frowned then scribbled Twists name out.
Comparing the two lists I knew I had made my decision.
Looking around my flat, I headed towards my computer and pulled up Blakks video-chat icon and waited for him to pick up.
After a short wait, the connected icon appeared and a face showed up on the screen.
Unfortunately it wasn't Blakks.
It was Twist.
When he saw me he looked surprised but then smiled.
"Kaiya! So nice to see a friendly face! So what do ya wanna hear?" He had a sly look on his face and Loki on his shoulder.
I was tempted to hang-up right there and then but I caught myself.
" I want to talk to Blakk…, Twist"
"Sorry Kaiya but Blakks not here right now. He's off dealing with his Shane vendetta." Twists face stayed calm but I could see the hate in his eyes.
"Wow, you must really hate Eli." I said
"You have no idea", He hissed, then his face softened, "What about you Kaiya? You must have a bone to pick with at least on Shane!"
I laughed "No way! I don't have anything against the Shane Gang. If anything, Eli should have something against me!"
That caught Twists attention "What would that be?"
"You know the Deep Caverns Race awhile back? The one Blakk found me in?"
"The one that you caused my mecha to crash and make me come third place? Yeah."
I smiled at the memory "Yeah, that one. Good times. Anyway, remember what I did to Eli?"
Twists eyes light up at the memory. "Oh Yeah! Heh, that was awesome! Until you took me out as well…"
I grin at him and he smiles back.
"Anyway, what do you want with Doctor Blakk?" He asked, reminding me why I called in the first place.
"Huh? Oh yeah, tell him I'll accept his offer but he has to get back to me as I have a few requests for it. That cool?"
"Yeah, sure. What's it about?"
I wink at him "Sorry pal, that's classified"
Twist folds his arms, a faint smile on his lips. "I'm his apprentice, I have a right to know."
"You also have a right to be ignored. See ya." I move to cancel the call but Twist stops me.
"Kaiya, wait!"
I look up at him "What?"
"Blakk needs me to pick up something from Snowdance Cavern and I was thinking about catching a movie. You up for it?"
I had always wanted to go to Snowdance Cavern and watch a movie there. I had heard it was an awesome place. So what if I went with Twist? It didn't mean anything, right?
"Sure, what time?" I replied.
"Eleven A.M. Don't be late."
I waved good bye "It's a date." I said before hanging up.
Last thing I saw was his smile grow even wider before the screen went black. It was then I realized what I had just said.
It's a date.
Shit
