Chpt 17: Movie Mayhem
-
I had spent most of the night packing up things I would need most for my move to Blakks Citadel.
After asking Twist to pass on my answer, he had contacted me back giving me brief instructions.
He hadn't looked to good, though. His smile was strained and he seemed to be sore all over. His voice also betrayed a hint of anger.
Looking around I felt my heart flinch at the all to familiar site of my house, looking pretty normal.
Most of the stuff I packed were tools, pictures, books and personal items that me and Jet would want.
I had also copied all my digital sketches onto another hard-drive as a backup, just in case.
Having done that, I went to sleep on the couch, waiting for the big moving day tomorrow.
I woke up pretty late and only just managed to get myself looking decent before Blakks men came by to gather my stuff. I let them carry every thing out and pile it up on the trailers. It wasn't really that much, just a couple of suitcases full of clothes and books.
However, my machinery was a different story. I tried to take all my tools and projects but there wasn't enough room so I had to leave them behind.
Jet whined continuously and sat watching everything get loaded.
"It's alright, Jet! Where just going somewhere different okay? Good girl." I comforted her.
It was 10:45 by the time I arrived at Blakks. The guard showed me to my room and I was surprised at the size.
It was surprisingly big. The first room you come into was the bedroom/ main room with a sliding door that led to the bathroom.
Then another door around the corner was a huge garage/ workshop!
It had steel shelving cabinets, a sliding door leading outside and huge table bordering two walls. Not to mention there was room for at least ten bull mechas! I felt tiny standing in the huge, empty room.
I couldn't help but smile as I checked everything out. Blakk had been very generous with the amount of space provided but I needed to furnish all the rooms. The bedroom had a double bed, but I was hoping to downgrade it to a single bed, considering the fact it took up to much room.
Jet was busy sniffing around and tripping up some of the guards unloading my stuff.
I managed to catch a box of photos as a guard went down.
I stifled a laugh.
"Right, Miss. Where would you like us to put your stuff?" A guard with a clipboard came over to me.
"How about in the garage? There's plenty of room in there. I'll unpack everything later, once I get some furniture.
The guard just nodded then left.
I just smiled and shook my head as I watched him go.
Something started beeping in my ear and I realized it was my glasses.
I flicked them down over my eyes and jumped when I saw the alarm notification.
I had forgotten Snow-dance Cavern! Crap!
Quickly chucking on my jacket I headed for Skies, parked outside my garage, yelling at the guards to continue unloading as I had somewhere to be.
They gave a quick 'yes' and I headed off with Jet towards the Cavern.
I arrived quickly at the Cavern entrance. There weren't too many people around but I stayed out of sight, waiting for Twist to turn up. No way was I going in there alone.
I must have waited for ten minutes before someone snuck up behind me. Well, tried too.
As soon as I heard them coming I backed Skies up, then jumped off and tackled my would-be attacker down.
He had dark blue hair cut with a lighter fringe. He was wearing metal armour over a purple T-shirt and had light grey boots.
"Wa? Get off me!" He yelled before twisting his way from underneath me before getting to his feet.
I swung a punch but he ducked and swept my legs out from underneath me.
I fell forward, my hands hitting the ground first and I flipped back onto my feet.
"Still want more?" the boy teased.
"Only if your man enough" I retorted before charging him.
He dodged out of the way of my mock charge but when I did a spinning kick he barely dodged it, my foot clipping his temple.
"Ooo, nice Kaiya!" He taunted.
I paused for a split second "What? How do you know my n-"
I never finished the sentence as he pushed me back against the trunk of a mushroom, his arm pressing down on my throat.
"Recognize me?" He brought his face real close to mine before he disappeared in a puff of confetti and red light.
In his place, stood Twist, a cheeky smile on his lips and Loki grinning on his shoulder.
I gasped then glared at him.
"Surprise! Glad to see you made it to our date." He laughed before taking his arm away.
I stepped away from the tree, still glaring at him.
"One: Very Funny. And Two: This isn't a date." I said dryly as I walked over to my Mecha, accidentally barging my shoulder into him.
Jet hopped off and I thought she came to see if I was okay but then she walked straight past me to Twist, who gave her a pet. So that's why Jet didn't bark a warning.
Traitor
"Come on," He said brushing past me, "Grab your mecha and we'll go to the movies. I heard there's Max Jackson- The Shadow Dragon, playing. I already got tickets." He waves them in my face.
I grudgingly mount Skies and follow Twist into the cinema.
We pass by without any problems, the molenoid at the desk to busy watching a small screen to pay us any attention. He just takes the tickets, gives them a once over before ripping them in half and handing back the bottom piece.
As soon as I entered the cavern, all my annoyance against Twist vanishes. This cavern is made entirely out of ice! One whole wall has been smoothed down to create the movie screen and there are speakers in each corner.
"Woah." Was all I could say as I looked around.
"Come on! Let's grab a seat at the back. No one will pay us much attention back there." Twist says as he heads for a shadowed corner.
I followed him obediently, still gazing at the ice, glowing blue from the theatre lights, and marveling at how this whole place was set up.
The corner where we parked our mechas in had a good view of the screen, even with the amount of people and mechas in the place.
Well, I could see it fine from atop my long legged hybrid.
"This is a good place, Twist. I can see the screen."
Twist had an annoyed look on his face and was craning his neck to try and see the screen.
"I can't see it, too many people in the way. How can you see?" He complained.
I looked at his mecha. It was your standard hyena shape, low to the ground too.
"Your mecha is to low. I built Black Skies to have changeable hydraulics. His main frame is naturally tall too" I pointed out.
"We should move."
I looked around. More people had come in and every decent view was taken. Plus the movie was due to start soon.
"Too late. Most places are already gone."
Twist looked around dejectedly but he could tell I was right.
I looked at Twist and couldn't help but feel sorry for him. Just….a tiny bit, though.
I looked away, sighed then hopped off my hybrid, took out a wrench and tinkered with the mechas hydraulics.
Twist watched me curiously. "What are you doing?"
"Snacks first, then I'll tell you."
He nodded, hopped off his ride and headed towards the beverages booth.
I finished upgrading the hydraulics just as the cinema went dark and the film began.
I hopped onto Skies and slipped down my glasses as the pre-movie advertisements. The sound was amazing! The cavern seemed to amplify it making seem as if it was real!
Twist got back and handed me a drink and some popcorn before getting on his hyena.
"So, what'd you do?" He asked quietly.
"This." I leaned over, squeezed the brake handle twice and his mecha shot up to the same height as Skies.
"I fixed the hydraulics so you could see the movie." I replied, studying my finger nails.
"Sweet!" Twist sat back and slipped down his glasses as the real movie began.
Jets ear poked up and she growled softly, then resumed her nap on Skies back.
I followed where she had been growling and saw a problem pull up next to us.
The Shane Gang where here, right next to us. They hadn't seen us though. They were too focused on the movie, as was Twist.
My mind raced.
Eli Shane plus Twist equals no movie and, most likely, a slinging match.
All that was stopping them was me in between.
I took a deep breath and sat back in my seat to continue watching the movie.
And hoped nothing bad would come from this.
But being around the Shane Gang always brings trouble.
The movie had almost finished and I had nearly forgotten the threat next to us.
But I got reminded soon enough.
And it was that stupid molenoids fault.
He kept complaining about being hungry and wanting to go get some food but the snack shack was to far away for him to manage. Eventually, the red-head, Trixie?, cracked and told him to shut up and go get himself, and the others, some food.
Eventually, he hopped off his run-down mule and scurried to the snack bar.
I watched him go out of the corner of my eye.
Soon he came waddling back, scrawny arms laden with food.
For a minute, I had that brief hope that nothing was going to happen and he wouldn't see us,
But then he tripped over Skies tail.
"Ah!," He complained as the food went flying over the ground.
Looking at the tail he tripped over he shouted angrily, "And who's confounded pile of bolts DARED trip Pronto thee Magnificent up!"
I watched as his eyes followed the tail up to the body and straight to Skies head, which had turned around to analyze the source of the noise.
I watched the molenoid freeze up in terror and slowly tiptoe backwards.
He reached Trixies mecha and slowly began tugging her leg.
"Trixie!," He whispered, "TRIXIE!"
The red head turned her head in my direction, obviously annoyed,
"What?" She hissed.
Pronto pointed towards me "We may have a slight problem" He concluded.
Trixies face went paler when she recognized the mecha.
I guess I had that sort of effect on people
"Eli…" She leaned over to him.
"Hmm? Yeah?" He was too engrossed in the movie.
"You, ..ah.., need to see something."
"Hold on. Movies nearly finish-WHAT? Come on!" He groaned along with the crowd as the actor messed up doing something important.
They continued watching the movie for the remaining twenty minutes but Trixie and Pronto kept flicking their eyes back to me.
When the ending credits started to roll, Twist stretched his arms and I turned my attention to him.
"Good movie, huh Kaiya?" He asked.
"Yeah, great." I answered absent-minded. I was busy listening on the Shane Gang.
"Yeah, Trixie? What was it?" Eli asked.
"That." Trixie replied and I had a decent feeling she was pointing at me.
"Maybe, she won't see us.." Eli said uncertainly.
I turned my head and looked straight at them.
"Floppers." Eli said.
I just rolled my eyes and started Skies main engine up before leaning over and fixing Twists mecha. It returned to its original form.
In the process of quickly fixing it, I lightly took Twists blaster while he was busy holding the brake as I had instructed him too.
As much fun as they were, I didn't want to be in the middle of a slug-slinging match.
"There done." I said as I pulled Skies out of his park, revealing the Shane Gang to Twist.
"Double floppers" Trixie said when she caught sight of Twist.
Twists mouth curled up into an evil smile, "The Shane Gang. What a nice surprise!"
I backed Skies out of the way and ended up parked next to the cave troll.
He glanced over to me but then his eyes found my mecha.
"Woaaahhhh… triple tentarium boosters combined with the perfect balance of slug energy!" He breathed.
I looked at him and he glanced away sheepishly.
I grinned. "Actually it's a mix of ghoul and slug energy. More unstable but a bigger boost. The tentarium is combined with diamore, to help contain the energy"
His eyes widened.
I turned my attention back to the stand off.
Eli didn't look to happy, "Let us go, Twist. We don't want a fight."
Twist just grinned "Too bad, 'cause I do!"
His hands flew to where his blaster was but found nothing but empty air.
"What? Where's my blaster?"
Eli lowered his blaster he had whipped out in a split second, confusion on his face.
"Over here, Twist." I waved it up in the air.
"Kaiya? Why'd you take it?"
"Because, I didn't want to end up stuck in the middle of a fire-fight." I replied flatly.
"You knew they were here? Since how long?" He accused me.
"Just after the movie started. Come on, let's go." I headed for the exit, still holding Twists blaster.
I heard Eli stifle a laugh as Twist followed me out.
As soon as we where outside, I gave him back his blaster.
"What the hell was that for, Kaiya? I could've squashed the Shane Gang with your help!"
I looked him straight in the eye, "Do you know why I agreed to work for Blakk?" I asked.
"No."
"To get the media off my back. Do you know how annoying it is getting chased and stalked by journalists? If I joined in that fight, or had anything to do with it, it would be frontline news. And I am not going down that road again." I hissed.
Twist just looked shocked and slightly guilty. Or was that just me?
I sighed and turned away, "Anyway, how about we go get that parcel you need?"
Twist looked confused, "Parcel, what parcel?"
"The one you said you needed to pick up? Remember?"
Confusion was quickly replaced my surprise, "Oh, yes that parcel. I..uh..already got it. We can head back now." He didn't meet my eyes as he revved his mecha forward.
Somehow I got the feeling that he was lying.
