Chapter 16 - Social Services

Jack's POV

"What!" Everyone said when we told them about what the doctor told us about social services at the Crawford's.

"Why the hell are social services involved?" Mum asked confused.

"I don't know, She wouldn't tell us anything," Kim explained just as someone knocked on the door, Jason walked over and answered and here was a middle aged women in a suit.

"Yes?" He asked.

"Hi I'm Delora Smith, I'm from social services." She said smiling and me and Kim looked at each other.

"Come in." Jason said and she walked in.

"You must be Miss Kimberly Crawford." She said to Alicia,

"No, She is." Alicia said and pointed to Kim.

"Oh I'm sorry, I just didn't expect the mother to be so young," She said smiling and Kim forced a smile.

"Yeah, I'd just like to ask, why is social services involved, I mean, Kaitlyn is almost 1 month old yet, you've only just appeared." I asked.

"Well we had an anonymous phone call and we had to check it out," She explained.

"From who?" Dad asked confused.

"I cant say, all I can say is that there was concern of abusive behaviour being given to the child." She explained.

"What kind of abusive behaviour." Kim asked confused.

"Well there was a report of neglecting of the child, leaving the baby crying in the night, not changing nappies, not being fed, etc.." She explained.

"Excuse me, but my daughter is always looked after, she never gets left crying in the night, the minute she cries, I go into her room and calm her down, I always feed her when she needs to be fed, she always has her nappy change when it needs to be, and If I'm not the one who's looking after her at a time, then its because she's with her father, or her grandparents or her uncle, never have we abused her, we look after her all the times," Kim said annoyed.

"I understand, but you must understand that when a report has been made, we need to follow through with it, and if there's no concern whatsoever, then we close the case, never to be opened again. I just need to do my routine check of the house, the baby-" She said but Kim cut her off.

"Kaitlyn, she's called Kaitlyn." She said and Delora nodded.

"Kaitlyn, and then I will be out of your hair, I will write a report and depending on what I see, the case will be closed Miss Crawford." She said and Kim sighed, "So, may I see Kaitlyn." She asked and I walked upstairs to Kaitlyn's bedroom and picked up Kaitlyn who was already awake, and walked downstairs with her in my hands and handed her to Delora. "She's a gorgeous girl." She smiled and sat down as everyone except me & Kim walked into the other room. "So, how old is she?" She asked.

"1 month on Sunday." I said and she nodded.

"What's her full name?" She asked.

"Kaitlyn Amelia Brewer." Kim said.

"And her Date of birth?" She asked.

"August 11th 2013." I said and she nodded.

"Well, she seems like a very healthy baby, her weight is good, what's her feeding & sleeping schedule?" She asked.

Gabriella's POV

"I don't get it, what's taking them so long?" Phoebe said worriedly.

"Babe relax, I'm sure they wont be long." I reassured her and we heard the front door shut.

"You can come in." Kim said and we all walked into the room, we being me, Phoebe, Niall, Shaun, Alicia, and Jason.

"Well?" Shaun asked.

"She said everything seems to be okay, and all she has to do now is make her report, and she's says, she's certain that we pass, after that we'll get a letter saying that they've closed the case." Kim explained.

"I still don't understand how they got involved in the 1st place." Jack said confused.

"Isn't it obvious." Kim said and we all looked at her. "Come on people, who in town hates us so much to do this, cause I certain everyone we know knows how well Kaitlyn is looked after." Kim said, "Lindsay." She added.

"Would Lindsay really do something this cruel though?" Alicia asked confused.

"Yes." Kim & Jack both stated.

"She hates me for sleeping with Jack." Kim stated holding Kaitlyn.

"And she hates me because I picked Kaitlyn over her." Jack said.

"Guess that just shows just how much of a cow Lindsay actually is." Shaun stated and they nodded in agreement.

"I would so love to smack her face in." Kim said rocking Kaitlyn,

"Yeah but you cant, if you do anything, Lindsay can get you done for hitting her, and social services could take Kait away." Jason said and Jack sighed.

"Hey, how about tomorrow, you two take Kaitlyn out for the day out, away from here for a bit." Phoebe suggested.

"Where to though?" Jack asked confused.

"Go to the beach or something, we'll give you some money, get a taxi, or Shaun will drive you, and you can head to and spend the day there, wak about for a bit or whatever, just take Kaitlyn away for the day." Niall said and Kim & Jack looked at each other,

"We might as well, schools on Monday so its not like we'll be able to take her anywhere for a while." Jack stated and Kim nodded.

"Yeah okay, We'll take her to the beach," Kim said and Jack nodded,

"Great it's settled, we'll give you some money, and Shaun will drive you, and then after I can pick you up if you like." Niall said and they nodded.

"Is that okay?" Kim asked Jason who nodded.

"That's fine." He said smiling.

"Now, I'm gonna go to the pup, anyone coming?" Alicia asked and we all nodded, saying goodbye to Kim, Jack & Kaitlyn and walked out.

Jack's POV

"You okay?" I asked Kim who was staring into space and she sighed and sat down on the couch,

"I don't know, I mean I know Lindsay hates me but to call social services, I.." She said upset.

"Hey come on, everything's gonna be okay." I sat sitting next to her and rubbing her back as she held Kaitlyn,

"What if its not though Jack." She said looking at me with those innocent hazel eyes that were filled with sadness, and scaredness.

"It will be, she said that everything was okay didn't she." I stated.

"But you heard her say we're very young, what if they decide that even if she's completely fine, we're too young to be parents, what then," She said as a tear fell from her eye and I brushed it away with my hand,

"It doesn't matter if we're young, they know we have an amazing support system, and that we love Kaitlyn more than anything, and I promise you Kim, they are never gonna take her away from us, over my dead body." I said brushed a hand through her hair as she started crying, "Come here," I said wrapped my arms around her carefully not to hurt Kaitlyn and she started crying into my chest and I kissed her head.
