Okay, so it has been over 7 years since I have updated any of my stories and all I can do is apologise for that, I don't even know if anyone still reads The Bill stories. I was recently rereading some of my stuff (How rubbish was my earlier stuff?!?) and got so frustrated when I got to the end of this story and there was no more! I am going to try and finish all my stories one at a time, starting with this one. If there is still anyone out there, please review!

Smithy ran, faster than he had ever thought possible. He could see her car, it wasn't far down the road and he was sprinting now, he needed to stop the small blonde detective from leaving. He loved her, he had never loved anyone the way he loved her. He heard a beep and he realised he had ran in front of a car coming the other way, he stopped for a split second but seeing her set of lights changing, he sped off after her, he moved in front of her car as she went to pull away and he noticed the shock on her face, she had clearly slammed on the breaks just in time. He panted for a second before moving and sliding into the passenger seat. "I did it Stevie" he spoke "I ended it, she is packing and leaving now". Stevie stared at him "You have really done it this time?" she asked. He nodded, he went to speak but the loud beeping of the car behind startled them both and Stevie drove away from the lights, round the corner and into a parking space. He smiled "There is no me and Kate anymore, please tell me we can be together, there is nothing to stand in our way, give me a chance to be with you". She nodded and wiped her watery eyes "I love you so much Smithy" she grinned as she leant into his lips.
Once back at the house they shared, Smithy glanced round, he held tight on to Stevie's hand as he led her through room by room before arriving in her bedroom. "I half expected her to of trashed the place" he smiled before turning to the small blonde. She nodded "Me too, but you know what Smithy, she can throw anything she wants at us, we are together now and that's all I care about". He leant into her lips and kissed her so gently, she wrapped her arms round his neck and allowed his tongue to move gently against hers as she led him to the bed. Laying wrapped up in his arms an hour or so later he kissed her head and sighed "She ain't going to make this easy for us, Kate I mean, she isn't going to just let this go". Stevie nodded "I know but all we can do is stick together and show an united front".
The next morning, Stevie sighed as they pulled into the car park "She hated me before, I can't even imagine how hard she is going to make my job now". Smithy took her hand and placed a gentle kiss "Just keep your head down Stevie, today is going to be the hardest day but once it's done we will go out for a big fancy dinner and I'll show you just how important you are". Stevie smiled, a tiny smile that barely reached across her face and he grinned at her "You can always come and sit it out in my office, I am overseeing your probation period". She lent across and pecked his lips "Thanks Smithy, I love you". He nodded "I love you too".
Arriving in the CID office Stevie was surprised it was fairly empty. She walked to her desk, saying a morning to Terry and Banksy, the only two in the office. They both nodded a hello and continued with their work. "Serge" Nate called from the door way and she turned to face him "The super wants to see you in his office". She nodded "I'm on my way". She dropped her stuff to her desk and headed to the door, seeing Mickey coming up the stairs she diverted towards him instead of the office she was on her way too. "Hey Mickey, how are you?" she asked. "Fine Serge" he replied as he went to move past her. "Mickey, I just want to say, I know we haven't seen eye to eye recently and you will probably hear a load of terrible stuff about me in the next few days" tears filled her eyes and she sighed "But you are the closest thing I have ever had to a brother and I miss you so much, I really hope you can forgive me". He sighed "Stevie, what's been going on? " she shook her head "I can't get into it now, I have to go and see the super" she turned away and he smiled "Maybe we could grab a coffee when you are done, catch up?". She grinned at him "I would love that and Mickey, just for the record, you are one of the best coppers I have ever met and I have never thought different".
Stevie knocked lightly on the door and waited to be called inside. Jack was sat in his chair, Neil leant on the windowsill, Smithy and Kate sat in chairs opposite Jack. "You wanted to see me Sir?" she asked. "Yes Stevie, take a seat" he spoke, she moved and rested down next to Smithy. Jack sighed "It has come to our attention there has been a conflict of interests between you three". Smithy spoke for the first time since Stevie had entered the room "Sir, I take full responsibility for what has gone on between us all... " Jack interrupted "Inspector Smith, if you let me finish, I have called you together to let you know that we will expect nothing but professional behaviour from you all and if any of you feel you will not be able to carry on working together, now is the time to say". Kate smiled "Obviously what happened has really hurt Sir but I am happy to draw a line under this and concentrate on work". Neil smiled "That's very understanding of you Kate". Smithy nodded "Yes Sir, I just want to draw a line under this". Stevie nodded "Me too". Jack nodded "Okay, good, Kate thanks for your time this morning, you can carry on with your day". She stood and left the room and as the door shut Jack sighed "Now, from what I gather you too are now in an intimate relationship?", the question almost sounded rhetorical but Smithy nodded anyway. "Okay, I think it's best, considering your very recent relationship with DI Kenley, Smithy, that you two keep your relationship under wraps for the time being and keep your working relationship to an absolute minimum". Smithy interrupted "With all due respect.." Jack cut in "Inspector Smith, you have caused a lot of hurt and a very difficult situation". Stevie smiled "It's fine Sir, no one needs to know about us". Smithy nodded slightly "Okay". Jack smiled "Good, Stevie I will be taking over your probation period assessments, I have you booked in for an appointment tomorrow morning". She nodded "Yes Sir, thank you". Jack smiled "OK, that will be all".
The day had drifted past slowly, Stevie was exhausted as she waited for Smithy by his car. She saw him talking to Callum and she watched him intently, he really was a gorgeous man, he was everything she had ever wanted and she had never felt this in love with anyone. She had fallen into a trance, interrupted only when Smithy pecked her cheek, "You ready beautiful?" he asked and she nodded before moving and climbing into the passenger seat. He smiled across at her "How was your day?". She nodded "Good actually, Kate was being really nice to me". He nodded "Me too, just watch your back though, I get the feeling this isn't even close to over". Stevie nodded and Smithy smiled "Now about this fancy dinner?". She sighed "I'm sorry, do you mind if we just give it a miss tonight". Smithy nodded "How about a take away, a hot bath and an early night?". She grinned "Sounds perfect, thanks Smithy".
