Slugterra Fanfic
Chapter 29: ReLaxIng victoriES
-
Stopping behind a rock just on the outskirts of Blakks Cavern, Kaiya dismounted Lucky, scratching a 'Thanks for the ride' on the mechas flank armour.
Eli might miss it but Kord wouldn't. That Cave-Troll had eyes like a hawk for tiny flaws.
Watching as the wolf sped off, Kaiya nervously fingered the glowing blue disk in her pocket.
She was certain Blakk knew what it looked like, and possibly what it does. She would have to make a replica.
Removing it from its cozy nest in her pocket, she examined it a second time, the glow illuminating her face.
Lumino Ore could be used to copy the glow, she'd just have to cut and polish it accordingly.
Or maybe an old scrapbook, sprayed with phosphorescent paint.
That could work, but first she had to get inside.
Walking up to the gates wouldn't work, she would be ushered to Blakk and wouldn't have anytime to make a replica.
She could try the garage leading to her room, but the guards had that watched as well.
Well, not the guards exactly but Dark Bain. Lots of them had started showing up.
They gave her the creeps, with their huge horns and teeth, the neck-breaking arms and the crushing feet.
They were demons.
'Not as bad as you' whispered a voice inside her head but she flicked the thought away, starting her way towards the immense building in the distance, green gas swirling around the tower, like a giant serpent.
Picking her way gingerly through the pointy rocks and obelisks, littered throughout the cavern, her foot tripped on a rock, sending her crashing into a tall, flat-faced rock, chest first.
"Awwoww' She groaned, rubbing her chin, examining the piece she crashed into.
It was as wide as her outstretched arms and the side facing her was flat and polished, she could see a faint reflection of herself.
All she saw was a rock, but there was a faint buzzing sound emanating from the stone shard.
She carefully placed a hand against it, feeling a faint heat, not found on the other surrounding rocks.
Brushing her hand across the surface, she felt her fingers dip into a tiny indent on the surface. Tracing her fingers over it she could feel it was a shape of a 'V'.
Her brain suddenly clicked and she fumbled to pull of the Blakk Industries pin, stuck on her jacket.
Carefully slotting it in the shape, she watched as faint web of circuitry glowed red, spreading across the flat surface.
A secret passage! Of course Blakk would have one!
Kaiya stepped back as the rock slid open, revealing a narrow staircase leading down into the ground.
Only pausing to snatch her badge, she bolted down the passage, following the line of red lights as the door shut behind her.
She would remember this passage; it may come in handy sometime.
She found the exit in the Citadel was in some storage cupboard.
The door was disguised as a large painting of the company Logo, placed amid some dusty brooms and cleaning products.
There was the same 'V' shaped indent hiding in the gilded frame.
"Good to know" Kaiya grinned, before leaving.
No-one saw her leave the cupboard, but she ran into a group of Dark Bain further down the corridor.
The merely glanced at her. Obviously she wasn't important enough to be bothered with.
'Let them keep it that way.' Kaiya thought, heading for her room.
Once she was safe inside her room, Kaiya got to work. She found an old disk that had served some purpose in the past.
Grabbing a can of blue 'glow-in-the-dark' spray-paint, she quickly covered the disk in a glowing coat of blue.
"Perfect," She purred, "One week vacation, here I come!".
Slipping the real disk in her underwear draw, no-one would be brave enough to search that, she quickly checked if the fake was dry, before nestling it in her pocket.
She took a deep breath to calm herself, grabbing the knife handle for comfort.
This was going to be the biggest trick she had ever played on Blakk, and if things went wrong….
Kaiya tried not to think about it as she walked out the door to Blakks office, trying to squash the butterflies flapping in her stomach.
"Did you intercept the parcel?" Was the first thing Blakk said when she entered the huge room. Diablo and the twins were standing to the side. Both regarded her with suspicious eyes.
"Yes, sir." She replied, trying to ignore them. Blakk had insisted she use formal speech when addressing him.
"Lets see it then" His face showed little interest but his eyes gleamed with excitement.
She slowly slipped her hand in her pocket and pulled out the fake, hoping she could sound genuine enough.
"This is what the parcel was, sir." She reached handed it towards the doctor, who eagerly snatched it and began examining it.
All attention in the room was on the glowing disk.
Kaiya took her chance, "Blakk, what is it?"
Blakks mind was lost in the glowing light, "This, my dear girl, is a pure form of Slug Energy! There are said to be five disks in total, that supply all of Slugterra, even the Lightwell, with pure energy! Corrupting this would leave a fifth of Slugterra without the energy, perfect for Nacho and his people."
Out of the corner of her eye she saw Nacho grin like a piranha.
"So, where are the others?" Kaiya asked.
Blakks face grew stormy, "I don't know! That blasted Shane boy snatched the one and only map to all the places. All I know is that the disks are found in the purest places in all of Slugterra. One is already locked away in my lab. I need to find a strong amount of ghoul energy to corrupt it."
Kaiyas face grew puzzled, "Where'd you get the first one?"
Blakks face snapped back to reality and he snarled, "You don't need to know that!"
Kaiya was taken aback, "Fine. I'll be leaving now for my week off!" She huffed as she stomped towards the door.
"Week off?" Now Blakk sounded puzzled, "I never gave you a week off."
Kaiyas temper was brewing, "Uh, yes, you did! You told me if I got you that parcel I would get a week off. Right Morris?" She asked the red-headed secretary that appeared in the doorway, his tablet in his hand.
Morris looked startled but he agreed with Kaiya, "Sorry boss, but you did give her a week off."
Blakk looked furious but Kaiya didn't notice.
She was seeing how far she could go.
"You don't mind if I take Twist with me?" She blurted out.
Blakk looked at her questioningly.
"And Nicole!" She quickly finished.
Blakk didn't look to happy.
"Aww, come on! You've got plenty of other idiots to do your work! I-we can have a vacation too ya know!" It felt good to be herself again.
Blakk thought about the favour. He had something very big planned and he was certain Twist wouldn't need to know about it, let alone Kaiya. She'd probably make it worse.
And it was too dangerous for Nicole to know anyway.
"Very well. You, Nicole and Twist get the week off. Now get out before I change my mind!" Blakk couldn't believe what he was saying but he got over it.
"Uh, sir-" Morris tried but Kaiya cut him off with a 'Thanks Boss!" the doors hissing shut behind her as she left to tell her two friends the news. He could practically feel the happiness radiating off the girl.
Blakk rubbed his eyes with one hand. He was getting to soft on Kaiya. Something had to be done.
Placing the disk on the desk, he turned his attention to Morris, who was still looking confused.
"What is it?" He spat.
"It's Kaiyas latest actions, sir." He tapped the tablet twice then handed it to his intimidating boss.
Blakk had a strange feeling about what he was about to see, but even the feeling couldn't prepare him for the recorded footage of Kaiya pushing a man of a rock bridge, holding a citizen hostage and stealing Eli's mecha beast.
"She's more than I bargained for." He muttered, passing back the device.
Morris nodded, passing the device to the twins and Nacho standing in the corner.
"She's certainly not the racer you picked up at the slug run anymore."
Twist had Eli Shane begging at his feet, pleading not to be killed.
Squeezing the trigger, he watched as his hated enemy exploded into a million different pieces.
Then out of nowhere, Kaiya appeared, riding Skies.
"Good shot, handsome." She smirked.
Twist spun the blaster on his finger as Loki growled in agreement.
"Heh, I know. Eli was never a match for me." He bragged, flashing Kaiya a smile.
She dismounted and sashayed over to him, leaning in close.
"So true." She whispered in his ear before leaning close.
Twist knew what was coming and he moved his head even closer to hers.
For some reason it was getting harder to breath.
And then she licked his face.
Twist woke up with a fright, to find Jet looking down at him, sitting on his chest, tongue hanging out.
"Argh! Jet! You ruined my dream!" He wiped the slobber off his face, clicking his fingers beside his bed.
Jet whined and jumped off as he sat up, bare-chested, leaning against the head-rest.
He glanced at Jet, who looked at him expectantly, the glow from her leg and eye illuminating her in his dark room.
"Soooo, you wanna know what I was dreaming about, huh?" He asked, tickling under her chin.
She nibbled his fingers and he related his dream.
He had just gotten to the part where Kaiya showed up when Jets left ear perked up lazily.
Twist glanced in the direction, even though he knew who was there, he continued his story.
When he was finished, his hand crept towards the light switch next to his bed.
"What do you think….Kaiya?" He smiled as he turned the light on, expecting Kaiya to be standing at the end of his bed. She wasn't there.
"Oh, I don't know. I thought it was kind of weird." Came her voice right next to him.
Instead of startling he just leaned back and smiled.
"I knew you were good at sneaking but that's impressive." He grinned, turned and looked at her, casually leaning against the wall, stroking Jets head.
She returned the smile.
Now that surprised Twist.
Then her frosty glare was back, "Hurry up and get changed. I managed to bag the three of us a week off."
It took Twist a few minutes for the words to register, "A whole week? Really?"
She smirked triumphantly "Yep!"
"What'd you do?"
"Intercepted a parcel."
"But you're always doing that! What's different about this one?"
"Skies needs fixing so I couldn't use him. Oh, and the parcel was highly important."
"What was it?"
"Confidential info. Sorry."
Twist pushed the covers off and Kaiya recognized the boxers he was wearing.
"I remember those boxers." She grinned.
Twist took a step back, "Are you okay, Kaiya? You're not acting like yourself. Well, the new you. Not this new you but the one before that. You know?"
Kaiya wore a blank expression on her face.
"Never mind." Twist sighed defeated.
"Oh, I'm just relieved I got a week off and you guys get to come too!"
"That's not the only reason is it?"
"Maaaaybeeeeee."
Twist stopped doing up his belt buckle and looked at her, "What'd you do?"
Kaiya just grinned. No way was she telling him she'd managed to steal Elis' mecha.
"Spill."
Kaiya just looked away, suddenly studying the floor.
"Come on, please, Kaiya. Spill already. Or I'll make you."
"Good luck with that." She scoffed.
Twist walked closer to Kaiya, who was still leaning against the wall.
She eyed him warily, fists closed and at the ready.
Twist paused, "Jet, if this is my last moment alive, you can have all my stuff."
Jet just hopped onto the bed to watch.
"Serious?" Kaiya grinned, before remembering she needed to stay focused.
Well, as focused as you can get with your topless crush about a metre away from you.
Twist edged closer.
"I'm warning you, Twist." Kaiya threatened.
He took a step closer.
"Twist."
Another step.
"I mean it!"
Then with lightning speed he grabbed her in a big hug.
She squirmed light-heartedly, realizing he had grown taller than before, as her feet weren't touching the ground.
"Good to have the old Kaiya back!" He laughed.
"The one before the crash?" She asked, still wriggling.
"Yeah."
"You have any cameras in your room?" She muttered, so only he could hear her.
"Left corner, behind me."
His reply was followed by a quiet crack of glass and the sharp sound of electric sparks.
He let her go and she walked over and retrieved the knife stuck on the middle of the camera lens.
"I take it you like your privacy then." He commented.
"Every girl does." She shrugged, "Anyway coming back to the crash topic. I know you showed me footage and I do believe you but…" She trailed off awkwardly, rubbing a scar over her lip.
"Yeah?" Twist asked.
Kaiyas eyes flickered over to him, "Mind putting your shirt on? It's…distracting."
Twist grinned as a memory came to mind, "Nope. You said that the first time we met."
"When I shoved your shoulder into place. Yeah. But anyway, back to the topic. That stuff you said when you thought I was in a coma. Did you…mean any of it?'
Now that was something Twist was not expecting, "Uh, do we really have to talk about that now?"
"Yes."
Twist sat down on the bed next to Jet and Kaiya joined him, her face deadly serious.
"I, uh…..no." He didn't meet her eyes as he lied to her. He didn't know what to do and the word just slipped out.
Jets tail stopped wagging and the room grew quiet.
He felt the bed move as Kaiya stood up.
"Thought so."
Twist looked at her, but she avoided his gaze.
He knew he should say something but he couldn't.
He watched in shock as she walked towards the door.
"Come on, Jet." She called, without looking back.
Jet paused, before giving an apologetic look at Twist and a lick on the cheek.
She followed her mistress out of the room, tail still and head down and the door shut behind her.
Twist closed his eyes hoping everything was a dream. But his heart knew the truth and there was nothing he could do about it.
Kaiya walked quietly out of Twists room, heading briskly for her own.
She needed to be alone, with her real friends; a robot dragon and a dog.
She had always expected Twist to be a traitor. That's why Blakk hired him.
And her run in with Derek had made her realize that if she kept this job, her friends would get hurt or killed, by her.
It would be easier to have no friends.
Even ones more than friends.
Tears pricked the corners of her eyes as she turned into her rooming, locking the door behind her, before falling onto her bed, letting the tears fall silently down her cheeks.
Jet climbed up next to her and curled up in a little ball.
