Chapter 16: Escaping Fate
Waking up after a fight, you don't wake up eyes first or sound first. You wake up, pain first. I could feel the back of my head throbbing. When my eyes opened up I was in an all-white room with glass in front of me. I got to my feet to see that I was in a cell. I woke up on a cold, metal slab attached to the wall. This is how I'll die. Alone in here. This can't be happening. I punched the glass. This can't be happening! Another punch. THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING!
I stood behind the glass wall, angry at how foolish I had been. I should have known to never trust an Osborn; especially one that you know is a pawn for his father's sick game. My knuckles were bleeding from how hard I punched the glass, but it was no use. That glass was thicker than Osborn's skull.
"Can I leave yet?" I yelled out loud knowing the answer to that. The answer was not only no, but it was just silence. I knocked on the glass and attempted to look through. All I saw was darkness; it was very haunting.
When I woke up in here I was in white clothes, tank top and pants. They looked like something a lab rat would wear. This was the very thing Conners feared, what Jonathan feared. Or you know what I feared.
BEEP! STAND CLEAR FROM THE GLASS
I heard a computer voice say. The glass wall began to lift from the ground. This was my chance. When there was enough space to crawl under I got a running start then slide under. I could feel freedom was just a moment away.
I heard a computer voice say. The glass wall began to lift from the ground. This was my chance. When there was enough space to crawl under I got a running start then slide under. I could feel freedom was just a moment away.
Click! Click! Click!
There were many clicks once I was on the other side. A bunch of guards were pointing their big guns at me, they were also in armor and helmets that covered their faces. In the center of them was their king, Norman. He held a smirk; I wanted to punch it off of him. I stood up with my hands in the air. One of the guards approached me and tried to grab my shoulder. I then took a quick step back and punched him where his nose would be. I managed to crack that part of the helmet.
I went into a full sprint between two guards, but they put out their arms to grab me. They threw my body back into the cell. When I went to run again one guard got the end of his gun and hit me in the face. I fell to the floor covering my nose. I won't yell for them or shed a single tear.
"Nice try, Jessica, nice try. You and I have that in common. We're both fighters to the core."
I was glaring at him, he was everything I have ever hated and he had me right where he wanted me.
"It's really good to see you back at OsCorp again. For a long time we began to worry if you'd ever come back. Luckily Harry told me how you were back when you first started going to school together. It was then my decision to leave you be during your last years of high school, but then how could we miss this opportunity to take you now?"
"Oh, what a smart move," I said sarcastically, "I want to go home."
"I'm afraid you're not going anywhere. Not for a while. You see, you're a very special person. Some would say rare, I prefer valuable. What you can do is extraordinary for any other human on this planet. But, we both know you're not human, not really."
There was a scientist that had goggles, a green mask over their mouth, blue gloves and had on a white lab coat. He or she was holding a tray with a needle on it, "Now, if you could be still enough to let the nice doctor take a blood sample, then I can let you in on a little secret."
The scientist approached me with the needle. I looked at Norman then at the needle, "No!" I yelled. I pushed the scientist away.
"Hold her," was Norman's simple order. Guards were running up to me as I was fighting back. When I threw a punch one squeezed my arm and another grabbed my waist. The scientist quickly jabbed the needle in my vein and took away a little piece of me. When he was done I was thrown against the wall again.
"Needles seem to be very traumatizing for you, huh? Well, I don't blame you. Jonathan said that he would take a sample from you all the time," I looked up at him with hate, "Yes, Jonathan reported everything about you to me. You were his number one experiment, until Richard decided to hide the Algorithm and make things much more difficult. Jonathan had no trouble when I told him to watch after my little girl."
I stared at Norman as my mouth dropped. What did he just say?
"That's right, Jessica. You are my daughter," his face wasn't lying. I hugged my knees, "No..." I murmured. Not him! Not Him! Norman Osborn can't be my father. He can't be! I don't want him to be! I felt a tear leak out of my eye, "You're lying! You just want to fuck with my head!"
"No, that's something I wouldn't lie about. And deep down, you know I am telling the truth. Back when Jonathan and your mother were working for me they were having issues. They would fight, a lot. Jonathan would get frustrated and pushed away Miriam. That's when I came in. I was there when she needed comfort and she was just so beautiful," he emphasized that word, "You look more like her. Anyway, when she found out she was pregnant she told me right away. You were not planned, Jessica. I was the head of OsCorp and publicly known. I couldn't have some illegitimate kid running around. You were going to be a nuisance, so I pressed the button hoping to kill either you or Miriam."
I let out a sob as he knelt down in front of me, "Both would have been okay with me, but that didn't happen. You both managed to cling to life, like some fatal disease," He grabbed me by my chin so I could look him in his eyes, "Then you were born. And I have never been so happy to be wrong about you." Seeing complete red. I jumped at him yelling.
"I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU! MONSTER!" I screamed as I was choking him.
BANG! BANG!
Two gun shots were made into my left shoulder throwing me against the wall. I let out a painful scream from the burning feeling. This hurt much more than when I was shot the other night. It was more intense and I was feeling lightheaded.
"Stop!" Norman shoved the guard's gun down, "I need her alive!" After a moment he turned toward me, grinning as he held his throat, "There's my daughter. You may look like your mom, but you have my fire!"
"YOU MIGHT AS WELL KILL ME NOW!" I clutched my shoulder, "BECAUSE I WILL RIP YOU APART AND NOTHING WILL STOP ME!"
"Oh, I can't just kill you. I need you to heal me," he began to cough violently. I smiled at his suffering. When he stopped he continued, "You're the key to my survival. Poetic isn't it? The only thing to save a father from dying is his daughter. Almost like fate wanted this."
"Ahhhhh!" I yelled as I was trying to force myself up. A guard came and hit me with the end of his gun again. The last thing I heard was Norman's laugh.
I sat against the wall, holding my shoulder, want to die away from the pain. This was too much for me. I was finally accepting what happened to Jonathan about not being my birth dad where as to Norman Osborn being that man. I dropped my hand from my shoulder. Let me bleed. If I'm dead then, Norman's dead. At least I would have brought him to Hell with me. My breaths were taking sudden long, loud breaths to fading short ones.
I was seeing a bright and fuzzy vision dim right before me. I started to blink furiously, but my own eye lids were becoming tired so they slowed. My heartbeats raised up to be shoved in my ears so it was all I can hear. My body was on fire! Burning like an inferno, but my skin began to get colder by the degree until it felt like ice. The voice in my head that helps me think was...becoming... unheard...No! Stay Awake!
Remember what Jonathan said when you were young. Think about what he said! Think! He said, "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger". Do you remember? "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger". What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! What Doesn't Kill You! Makes You STRONGER! KILL YOU! STRONGER! Kiiiillll...What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! What doesn't...kill you...makes you... stronger...zzz...
I was nothing...
LLIIIIIIIIFFFFEEEE! I GASPED IN!
My chest heaved up as my breaths got fast again. What happened!? I can see everything again! I'm still in a bright cell! I can hear my inner voice yelling inside! But it calmed down. The heart beat in my ears dropped back down into my chest. My skin went back to burning up my flesh again. After long moments it was just warm. The pain was just throbbing now. My breaths slowed down and I looked around.
I thought I died? I should be at least. I was literally nothing for a long time! I was in deafening, empty, blackness. Now I feel the fullest I've even been. I never felt more alive than just now. I glanced all around the room. I could hear a loud clacking noise echo. A long shadow was on the wall outside my cell. A tall figure appeared to be a doctor in a lab coat wearing surgeon's mask and googles. They were holding a white box with a red cross on it.
He/she/it opened a compartment and placed the box in it. When the doctor shut the door there was a beep noise. A hole in the wall opened up and showed the box. It was a med kit. I could fix myself up.
I tried to stand up slowly against the wall. My knees were made of Jell-O when they were unbending. Come one throw yourself a step. I stepped forward, toward the med kit. My knees got stronger to where it didn't want to break. I reached out to grab the box and turned to the little metal slab attached to the wall.
Opening the box of medical supplies, I found ointments, a few covered needles, bandages, and a bottle of rubbing alcohol. I splashed that on me and uncovered a needle. I better start getting use to sharp objects. I stuck it in my shoulder and hissed. Don't scream! Don't let them think you are weak. I injected whatever was in here into myself. Next was the ointment. Don't know what this will do, but it's going on. Finally, I wrapped my wound in the bandages.
I sat in my cell reminiscing the truth that monster told me. I hated it, I didn't want any of it to be true. I'm Norman Osborn's daughter. Potential heir to the crock pot kingdom. Jessica Osborn. Yuck! I shook my head at that, no. That will not be my fate. I won't accept that at all. I don't want to. I don't want any of this. I don't want to be here. To die here! No.
I have to get out of this place, somehow. Come on, Jess. Think! There was noise a coming from outside in the dark hall. When I stood up I prepare myself. I'm gonna fight with everything I've got to get out.
By a surprise, a face I thought I'd never see again appeared, at least I never wanted to see him again.
"It's bigger than I thought it would be," Harry said about the cell.
"What are you doing here?" My words spat.
"I came to see you one last time."
I was glaring at him, not with hate, but with hurt, "Did you know? About me? About us? Did you know the whole time?"
"Yes," he simply said. I threw my face in my hands. How did I not see any of this before?
"I'm sorry about this, but you need to understand this from my perspective."
I quickly looked up at Harry, "I'm sorry, 'Your Perspective?' I'm going to be a lab rat! How could you do this to me when I trusted you?" I shouted. Harry's mouth was open as if he was going to speak, but he didn't say anything. I shook my head and sighed, "I should have known better than to trust the spawn of a maniac."
Harry's eyes widened at that, "Maniac? I am nothing like-," he stopped his defense. Something in his eyes flickered in to anger, "No, you know what, I am. I am his son! And now he'll finally see that. Thanks to you."
When I was looking at Harry, I didn't see Harry, I now saw Norman Osborn. It was painful to look at. I remembered when he told me he never wanted to be that. I walked to the glass and placed my hands on it, "What happened to the boy that didn't want to be in his father's shadow? That gone too?"
Please, Harry, don't be like this. I'm reaching out to you now and I need you to come back. Harry got closer to the glass. The look he gave was cold, "He grew up and became the man his father wanted him to be. Finally, I'm going to make something of myself."
I pushed away from the glass. He is too far gone now, he is his father.
"I hope it was worth your wild because when I get out of here," I leaned in, "and I can promise you I will. I'm going after that monster you look up to. I'm going to tear down everything he stands for and you can watch as your whole world comes crashing down on you. How's that sound?" I gave a devious smirk.
"That would sound great if it were true. I'm sorry it had to be this way, Jessica. I'm sure you would have been an amazing sister."
When he said that I could feel a small pain in my chest. I tried to imagine me as a child running the halls of Osborn's penthouse or on plane rides to different countries. It wasn't a good fit. I tried to imagine Harry with me as a child, living in my old house with my mom and Jonathan as our father instead. That image was more peaceful, happy, but unrealistic.
"Good-bye, Jessica," Harry walked out of view. Leaving me all alone once again, "See you soon, Harry," I said to myself. See you real soon.
I climbed up on the ceiling to destroy the lights, hopefully the people watching the cameras will notice and come down here. It was much darker now; like if I was one of these guys, I'd feel scared to come down here. I'd be scared to stand outside of this glass wall looking in here and knowing that there's a pissed off human-spider hybrid girl wanting to break out. Good. They should feel that way. I want them to feel that fear.
I hid in the corner so I was more unseen to the camera, waiting there for someone to come. I thought about Jonathan again. I thought about how upset he would be if he knew I was here. By here, I not only mean in this cell, but here as in knowing that I know he isn't my biological father. As far back as I can remember he has always loved me.
I ran into the office, "Daddy!" he turned from his book and looked down at me to smile, "Jessica!" I held up arms up to be held and he picked me up, "What are you doing?"
"I was playing with Miles," I reached my hands out to grab his glasses. Jonathan took them off and gave them to me, "Well, you can play with him in a minute. We need to take a sample today."
"No!" I complained as he sat me down on his desk. I saw his face frown.
"It will be fine sweetie; I just want to make sure you're okay. You never know if something is wrong with you," he opened a drawer and took out the supplies needed.
"It still hurts," I pouted. Jonathan got the needle ready and took my arm.
"I know, but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger," he kissed my forehead, "Remember that, Jessica. Remember that."
Jonathan stood there hovering the needle over my arm. I sat there waiting for the pinch, but it never came. Jonathan let out a sigh and set the needle down, "I can't do this…" he whispered to himself. He turned back to me and smiled, "Hey, do you want to go outside and play?"
I started to bounce up and down clapping my hands, "Yeah!" Jonathan picked me up, "Let's go then! I think it's time you learn to ride a bike," he held me close to him and looked back at the needle on his desk. He shut the door.
Footsteps coming from outside were heard again, taking me out of my thoughts. I prepared myself when the door started to slowly open. A scientist and two guards were there trying to look in.
"You can barely see her!" one scientist said. One of the guards cocked his gun, "Then you better stay back so I can get a good hit on her."
"Norman said not to shoot her! She is too valuable to risk shooting. We don't know what her limit is."
"If Norman wants her for her rapid healing then she can take a couple of bullets in the stomach," the other guard sneered. They both chuckled. The door was finally open enough to where I threw my body at the guard. He ended up banging his head against the floor, knocking himself out. When I tackled that one guard the other started to shoot in my direction. I lunged myself at him and took him to the ground. I started to punch rapidly in the face to where he didn't move anymore. I got up and turned toward the scientist. He was shaking as he held his arms out, "Listen, I'm won't fight you! Here! Take my key card," he threw me his little badge and crouched down covering his head, "Please don't kill me!" he was shaking as he squeezed his eyes shut.
I took the key and knelt down next to him. I leaned in to whisper in his ear, "Run!" I hissed. He stood up and ran in the opposite direction yelling. With that I ran to the exit to get away.
Six guards were stomping down the hallway and blocked the way I wanted to go. They surrounded me as they pointed their guns. I held up my hands so one could come towards me. He had a pair of hand cuffs to slap on me. Before he got the chance, I lifted my leg in the air to kick him in his jaw.
When he fell, the rest of them all came at me. I start swing punches at whoever was near me and gave them everything I had. Two went down while one grabbed my arm and another tried to grab me leg. I kicked him down instead and yanked my arm back so I could back hand the other guard instead.
I ran down the long hallways, turning corners in this maze of a building. I wasn't sure if I was underneath OsCorp, like in a basement, or somewhere in the building like if it was another lab only for certain scientists; the scientists willing to get dirty with their experiments, the kind that don't mind cutting open humans or illegal experimentation. For all I know, I wasn't even in New York anymore.
I stopped running to go into an office, maybe there was a window. There was and I was still in the city. I looked down to see how far I was from the ground. I was pretty high up. The room turned red with this alarm blaring. They must know I'm running around now. I left the office.
"There she is!" I shot my head in the direction of the yell. Five guards were pointing their guns at me, "Down on the ground, Freak!"
I darted off down the hallway and they fired their guns. I ran closer to the wall, then pushed off my foot and began running on the vertical surface. The bullets went to follow be, "What the fuck!" I heard someone yell. I jumped over a hallway opening and then leaped to the other wall. Their bullets were going all over trying to get me.
What was a step over for me was making a turn around the corner to the guards. I jumped down from the wall and ran normally until I was going to make another turn. There were more guards waiting for me, but they opened fire at me. On instinct I back flipped until I was behind a wall. I looked around to see if there was anywhere I could go. There was a supply closet.
I shut the door behind me. I could hear a bunch of hurried footsteps coming after me. Looking up, I noticed how the ceiling was the kind that had those removable tiles. I smirked to myself.
"On my mark!" a guard outside yelled, "Fire!"
RATTATATATATATATATATATATATA! RATTATATATATATRATTATATATATAT!
They shot at the door, turning it into Swiss cheese. Everything that was stored in here had exploded from the bullets. The place was a mess. I could see the light from the halls shining through the holes. If you haven't guessed, I'm hiding in the ceiling like an opossum.
"Did we get her?" one questioned. I rolled my eyes. The ring leader slowly approached the door, "If she lived through that, she deserves to escape," it was quiet for a moment until there was sudden movement, "You two, go in."
Two footsteps hurried to the door. They opened it and walked slowly. When they were all the way in one turned around, "No one is in here!"
I reached my arm down to pick him up, "AHHHHHHH!" he screamed as he kicked the door shut. His buddy started to shoot up, but the other guards outside were not chancing it. They all fired at will. Blood splattered on me as those bullets went through them.
My face was horrified as I looked at the lifeless bodies. I was still holding the man so I dragged him up. He was clutching his gun. I grabbed that and also found a small grenade of sorts. I took out the ring and tossed it through the door.
"TAKE COVER!" the leader yelled. There was a hissing noise that started, it was a smoke bomb. I held my breath and jumped down, closing my eyes I fired the gun all over the place. I heard yells of pain from the ones I did hit, but I didn't stick around to see who it was or how many. I just bolted down the hall way and out of the smoke. I did turned back and shot through the smoke just in case.
I found an elevator and slammed the button. The doors opened as the guards came through the smoke shooting at me. I turned back and fired at them while backing up into the elevator. I smacked a random button just so the doors would shut. When they did elevator music played. The elevator was going down and I rested against the wall catching my breath.
All of this was happening faster than I could think. You just saw two guards get shot to shreds. They were guards doing what they were told, guards probably with kids. Kids...
I slid down the wall and sat there for a moment. If they were trying to capture me then they knew what they got themselves into. They should have known the fucked up things Osborn was going to do to me. I looked down at my hands to see their splattered blood on me. I never saw an actual person die in front of my eyes, not since Jonathan. But that was something I couldn't remember too well, not unless I thought real hard about it.
The elevator stopped moving and the lights went out. Within a few seconds the elevator was now in a red light that was slowly fading in and out. What was happening now? I stood up to open the doors with my hands. The elevator stopped half way going down an opening.
I tossed the gun through the opening and slid through. What floor was I even on? Whatever it was I just have to keep doing down. I started to walk through the halls and realized I was close to Dr. Connors lab. When I was closer to the glass walls they were covered up by large metal doors.
Security walls? What is this? Getting closer to the center I saw a giant hole in the metal. Something big was trying to get inside those labs. OsCorp is one weird place. I didn't want to stick around so I started to jog over to a door. When I opened it I saw something big...and scaly.
It turned toward me, looking at me with those big yellow eyes. Was I looking at I giant lizard? Bug Boy was not lying. It roared at me and started to chase after me!
I sprinted back through the door, down the hallway. This thing was fast! I turned around and started to shoot at it only a few bullets shot! Am I out of ammo? I continued to run for my life, but I was coming to a giant window, basically a dead end. Shit!
When I was against the window the Lizard was slowly approaching me. It raised its hand with the sharp claws over his head. This thing is two of me standing on each other so that is a big hand. I held my hands out to defend myself from the blow I was about to get. I felt the energy in me radiate for a moment in my hands.
ZA-DAK!
A blast came out and shot the Lizard in his torso. He stumbled back and glanced at me, and I to it. Did I just shoot something at him? That burst of energy came from me? The Lizard screeched at me making me throw my gun at the window to break it open. When he charged at me, I had to make a choice.
Choice one, get my ass beat by this Lizard. Choice two, jump out of this hell hole and possibly to my death. I choose choice three! Don't try this at home! I jumped out the window just in time before the Lizard grabbed me. The only thing was that I am falling through the air as we speak. The air was brushing passed me, making everything feel cold.
My life wasn't flashing before my eyes, if that's what you were wondering. When you are about to die, that doesn't happen. Nothing is in slow motion, it's just this. Falling from a high distance gave me this hypnotic sensation to where it felt like I wasn't moving at all. But I know that was no happening.
Getting closer to the ground I saw that there was a fancy restaurant with these stringed lights connecting to a very high pole. I wonder if this place was good. They had lights and even a cute little fountain. I grabbed on to the stringed lights which made me bounce back up for a brief moment. That broke my fall but then I landed in the fountain pretty hard.
The splashed scared a lot of people sitting outside eating their food, hell I scared people on the side walk passing by. Choice three was basically like choice two, but I live. I chose right. Every inch of me ached from the inside out. Laying there in the water I could feel that I broke something. Don't know what yet, but I think now is the time I go to sleep. I haven't rested properly in a few days, now might be a good time to catch up. My eyes shut.
AN: Man, is it me or does today suck for Jess? It was really bad day, being abducted, finding out Norman Osborn is your dad, Practically dying, fighting all these guards, getting chased by a giant Lizard, then the cherry on top was jumping out of an OsCorp building. Like the best thing out of her day was finding out she has this "Venom Blast" and that she got out of that place.
Anyway, let's get away from bad days and how about you tell me out your best day ever? Mine was probably my graduation day from high school. I had all my family there, even though some of them didn't get along, it was all put aside for me. I got to have that one day where everyone was proud of me. So your best day, let me know.
Dudes! The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is getting closer! I'm so excited for this movie, but man are they just showing so much spoilers. I feel like I have visually seen the whole movie, but there are only three things missing. You guys excited for the movie? Well, May 2nd will be here soon.
Anyway that's all, until next upload. Talk to you guys later. Kisses!
