"It's already bad enough how much you sleep. Hm I don't remember you wearing this earlier this morning! And since when did you wear your hair long? Is there something you want to tell me Shikara Nara?" Yoshino questioned with critical eye as she circled around Shika, checking for any other changes.
Shika mentally cursed, she knew that there was something that she was supposed to do. However in her haste to get to the compound and out of the apartment she forgot that her mom remembers the small eyes were on Shikara now. All thirsty for the answers to Yoshinos questions. For some odd reason even her pet deer Rikumaru seemed to be questioning her with his gaze.
Shika took a second to scan the situation and realized escape was impossible. So with a sigh she prepared to answer.
"Mom I was-
"Sleeping at the training fields again most likely! You don't even have to say it Shikaru I already known." Yoshino interrupted with a sigh at the end.
Seeing as her mom had figured out half of why she was late Shikaru stood silently and pulled one of her dad's numbers and simply nodded to her mother's words trying not to incur her wrath.
"Shikaru as you know our clan has always gotten by being the villages healer when medic ninjas didn't exist. We've even had the honor of being on the council since the end of the shodaime's reign. This has been pretty good for the clan seeing as none of the the lazy bums have any motivation to move forward.", she stopped for a second to glance at Shikaru, Shikkaku and Ensui who were all yawning.
"The elders however want to change this. For the first time in a long while those old farts are looking to make a power play against the other clans!" She yelled even though her statement about the elders got their attention.
"So the war hawks want to pick a bone with some of the other families. So what? There's not very much they can do during such peaceful times." Shikaru said bluntly. She spoke the truth because unlike most clans like the Hyuuga where the elders ruled most of the day to day life, the Older group of Naras tended to just lay around playing shoji until war breaks out. That's when they become cold calculating machine like generals.
"I would agree but the elders have proposed something you won't like." ,Yoshino look at Shikaru who merely raised an eyebrow. She continued,"Just recently through Konoha Gossip it's gotten around to the major clans that a clan from the era of the Six Path Sage has been in the village for years under our noses. When this news reached us we contacted one of our cousins in the administrative office and asked what they knew. Apparently This family has the proper paperwork filed away in the hokage's office to be recognized as a clan. Why the Sataki family haven't had a seat on the council is anyone's guess, if they request for one they could have it by tomorrow. They fall under the CRA and they have the potential to get more power because of the Supremacy clause." Yoshino paused for a second to let her daughter absorb the information.
"Alright I can see why some people might be worried about a clan that old just suddenly popping up. But what is this supremacy clause?" , Shikaru asked .
Yoshino glanced at her husband non-verbally communicating for him to continue. With a cough Shikaku took over for his wife. "During the of the beginning of the Sandaime's reign the hokage's advisors were big Senju clan supporters and were heavily biased against the Uchiha clan. At this time the Uchiha had only had the position of police force for about three years. To spite them the advisors used Sarutobi's promotion to hokage as a way to fund the council we know today. One of the first things the council did was create clauses to limit the Uchiha's power and keep themselves in operation even after they're main goal was completed. The most important part of these clauses is that in the absence of one of the two or both clans are absent from the council then the oldest clan with the most standing shall have equal voting power to that of the founders. This comes with a clause in itself that the representative has to marry one of the council's family members as a way to prove their loyalty to the village." The older Nara said .
"So basically the Sataki family could have a spot on the council and powerful voting rights if they married someone related to or on the council right? What this have to do with me?", Shikaru stated with an annoyed grimace, not really in the mood for a game of politics with her father today.
Shikkaku scratched the back of his head in thought, 'With a daughter and a wife I now know why my old man used to tell me women are troublesome.'
"As I said before the Sataki family head needs to marry someone on the council or related to one of their members. This puts most of the female clan heiresses in the running. It's doubtful that anyone would ignore this opportunity to have a family that old with scrolls full of valuable knowledge basically under their control. Our elders don't want to waste this chance either. They have decided to offer you as potential wife to the head of the family.",he finished softly.
Shikaru's face was blank as she processed what was being said to her. For all the things Shikaru could have possibly calculated this was not one of them. Who in their right mind would marry a Nara? ' Well I can't really say I'm all that surprised that they would do this to me. Man first this mess with Naruto now this now this.' , she thought.
Shikaru barely had time to sight before the mental light bulb in her mom turned on. According to Nara law if a clan member was already proposed to or engaged then the elders couldn't marry them to someone else. Shika weighed the pros and cons of her gamble. If she succeeded she would be stuck with Naruto until one of them broke it off. If she failed she would probably be stuck with some ugly guy three times her age. This was risky but she was ready.
" I'm already engaged. ", Shikaru said with her normal bored yawn. Shikaru stretched just to keep up the act. She peeked at her family through half open eyes as she pretended to stretch.
After Shikaru had said those words both her parents and her cousin had gone stiff as a pair of boards. Getting over their stupor the two glanced at eachother before looking at their daughter.
"Oh your married I see.. Wait! WHAT!? Since when has this beeen going on!?", her mom questioned furiously.
Shikaru lazily turned and said: "A while now I guess. Me and him have gotten quite friendly recently."
Shikkaku who had been silently processing the situation tried not to show it but on the inside he was metally cowering. Yoshino hadn't worried so much when Shikaru was a boy but now that she was a girl she went in to protective mama bear mode almost all the now. He had a creeping feeling in his spine that wasn't going to end well. How right he was.
"So Shikaru who is this mystery man? Also for that matter what do you mean 'FRIENDLY'?", Yoshino said in an extremely low voice.
"The guy I'm with is Naruto mom. You remember him right he's in my class. As for our relationship well Naruto and I have decided its best we get married after doing... 'that'.",she said with a shy tone near the end.
Shikaku froze like a deer frightened by blinding lights. 'No good can come of this.'he thought. He turned to see his wife's reaction. Yoshino stood there with an eerie smile and her fists clenched. Massive amounts of KI was rolling of Yoshino in waves. Shikaku sighed the last time he had seen his wife this pissed off was when Mebuki Haruno had the nerve to say her wedding dress made her look fat. Shikaku just prayed that Naruto was nowhere near .
"Shikaru-chan. How do you think I should do it?"Yoshino said very sweetly.
"Do what mom?" , Shikaru asked glad to change the topic.
"I think killing your fiancée with a bomb at his home is a little excessive. So should I beat him with the frying pan or should I ask the Inzukas to sick their nin-kin on him?" Yoshino said rubbing her hands together with evil glee.
The three spectators to Yoshino's evil plot sweat-dropped knowing that if pushed Yoshino could be crazed.
'I hope my mom doesn't kill Naruto before I get the chance to talk to him.', Shikaru thought watching her mom plot her fiancée's demise.
