"Sombra? How is he involved?" I asked. I never really did my homework on the villains of the show but I knew well enough about them. Such as Queen Chysalis (I hope I spelled that right), Sombra, discord, and well Trixie to some extent.
"You've never heard of Sombra?" Thrash asked. "He rules over the crystal empire, he's also the one who controls the Shadowbolts."
"So the Shadowbolts are like the Wonderbolts only for Sombra though?" I questioned. I didn't know about that…It's like what timeline is this?
"Yea exactl- now hold on, how did you know about the Wonderbolts?" Thrash questioned.
I quickly made up an excuse and kept my cool, "you hear a lot of stuff when you walk up and down the streets of Canterlot day in and day out." I replied.
"….Well I guess that makes sense." He replied.
"Well that's just great, seems you two both have a quarrel with Sombra." I stated, sighing.
"What do you mean?" Asked Thrash. All this while Prince was pondering over his father, the Shadowbolts, the anger. He was storming around his room muttering to himself menacingly.
"What I mean is that Sombra is-" I started.
"-My father! ..." Prince growled. This made Thrash's face go almost pure white.
"Your father!?" Thrash nearly shouted but in a hushed tone.
"Yes. That monster is my father." Prince said, stopping looking back talking through gritted teeth.
"Now guys, come on. Prince calm down bud he isn't here." I said trying to chill him out.
"I know he isn't! What he did! How could he?! To his own son!" Prince ranted on.
I turned back to Thrash to seek his assistance but he was nowhere to be found, except for him flying out the balcony door. I got up and ran after him until I was stopped by the railing.
"Thrash come back!" I demanded.
"No way man! If that's Sombra's son who knows what he'll do!" He answered back.
"What do you think he'll do?! Put a spell on you? Take you back? What stopped him before?!" Before I could finish Thrash had flown off, nowhere in sight. Prince had walked up to the balcony; he was a little teary eyed. I don't know if this was due to Sombra or Thrash's reaction. I turned to him and patted his back. "It's ok Princey…its ok. Let's go tell Thrash what for huh?"
Prince wiped his eyes and nodded. I got somewhat dressed and we made our way out into the nippy air of the midnight. We snuck out the front door which I mind you was not quite easy due to the fact that it was rather large and fairly loud. But we made it outside and like I said before, it was pretty chilly. I never could tell what time of the year it was but it seemed like it was summer slowly creeping into fall. (Weren't we looking for someone?) Yes, we are looking for Thrash. (So why the hell are you thinking about seasons?!) I can be curious and think about other things can't I? (Whatever, just find Thrash already, we're freezing our buns off!) Oh shut up you big baby, it's not that cold.
I snag my back pack before we got out so I shuffled through and was able to find my flashlight. I flicked it and it felt like I was back in the cellar. The thought of the never ending darkness and the creatures that lurked within….
I eventually snapped out of it and found that Prince had walked further ahead of me, not realizing that I was reliving. I caught back up to him and started to watch the skies in case of anything that could even relate to looking like Thrash. We didn't decide to call out to him because we might wake others up or maybe alert the guards, which is something we both would rather avoid.
After about an hour or two we had searched up and down any place we could think of without getting too far from the castle. We decided to go back and see if he came back to the room. He hadn't. I offered the idea that we'd try again tomorrow after we got some sleep. Prince had calmed down throughout the time that we were searching and he was just tired so he went straight for bed. I shut the balcony doors but not until I looked out one last time to hopefully see Thrash but I didn't. So I closed the doors, set my backpack down and slipped into my blanket on the floor before I let my eyes drop, and open to a bright, sunny morning.
With my morning routine done and clean clothes on, Prince went in to do his stuff and we went down to the dining room to have breakfast. Some old, same old. That is until halfway through, Thrash walked in looking beat (tired).
"There he is! And just in time for breakfast! Did you have a good night fly?" I asked.
Thrash shot me a short glare from his baggy eyes. He sat down next to us and never let his eyes off of Prince who was happily munching away at some kind of cereal or whatever.
"He's nothing like his father, you know that Thrash. I'd argue to say that he's the exact opposite" I said, not even looking at him as I took another bite from an apple.
"Still thou-."
"Still. Nothing." I stopped him. "He is your friend and he'd ever wish harm upon you."
Thrash was left stuttering.
"I don't know what Sombra did to you as a Shadowbolt, but I can only imagine it was harsh, very harsh. Neither I, nor Prince would want to see you go through that because Prince either had it the same, or worse." As I was talking I was leaning closer to Thrash to whisper it so I didn't remind Prince of his father. "Remember what we all went through? Together?"
"*sigh* I…I just don't ever want to go back." Thrash said.
"I'm not going to make you back, Prince won't make you go back, but if in any case we do…we are going to kick. Sombra's. Flank." I replied. To which Thrash could only burst into laughter.
"Taking on Sombra? The three of us? Are you serious?!" Thrash laughed. "It's suicide!"
"Yep, well call me suicidal." I said in the most serious tone I could. Thrash couldn't help but let his laughter die until he knew how serious I was.
"You really are aren't you? How are we going to take him dow-." Thrash began until a large shadow darkened the windows in the dining room. All three of us looked out to notice it heading directly past us and into town. It was nothing but a ball of smoke/clouds followed by a streak of thunder clouds.
"One of your friends?" I asked Thrash, as we all stared at the cloudy mass, crashing down in town.
"I hope not, because quite frankly…that doesn't look good." Thrash replied.
"Alright then, let's go." We stood up and shot for the door. Through the hallways, I sent Prince to go get Night, and Thorn and meet us at the crash site. I told him to look for the smoke. He turned down one hallway that left to another and he was gone. We busted through the main doors and out to a cool sunny morning.
"Thrash, can you get up into the sky and look for the smoke? I follow from the ground." I said. Without word he zoomed up into the sky and searched around.
"Aha! I found a way, try to keep up." He teased and I was ready to show him. Thrash took off to a faint smoke cloud that had dispersed from the thick mass that was closer to the ground. I ran after Thrash, dodging a many ponies that had stopped to watch the mass fall as well. They were awestruck and glued to the ground, watching with wide eyes.
I lost sight of Thrash but I was close enough to find my own way to a crater dug into the middle of an abandoned street. The blow must've really let go of a shockwave because the windows of every home and business around was either cracked or shattered. Even the light posts were dented to some extent. The next thing that caught my attention was Thrash who was sitting, hanging over the hole.
While approaching him I could almost hear a faint sob emit from him. Until the noise was suppressed by the encircling of many guards followed by Night, Thorn, and Prince. Swords, and spears were both raised though as Prince stepped forward they began to lower but they were still at the semi-ready.
"Thrash…Lightning what is it?" I asked, approaching slower with Prince coming up the side. "Thrash?" He wasn't responding. Once I got close enough though I could tell what it was….it was a who, and the who was a he, and the he was a Shadowbolt, and this Shadowbolt was a friend of Thrash. He was one of the ones who helped Thrash escape from the guard station.
"It's Storm…" Thrash choked out. The beaten Shadowbolt member laid in the hole unmoving, his outfit was torn to shred. Most tears were accompanied by cuts and bruises. One of his eyes was swollen shut. His mouth had overflowed with blood and it leaked out his lips. The key thing I noted was the rise and fall of his chest.
He was alive.
"Thrash…Thrash we need to move him fast. He's still breathing. We have to keep him breathing. Check his heart rate." I stated.
"Listen, what? What for?" He asked, confused.
"If it goes bu-dump it's good, if its bu…dump, not good." I said and I turned to Prince. "Hey, can you get some medical personnel out here asap?"
"Ye- yea sure." Prince said and he flipped around to the guards to ask them.
Thorn and Night had come up to me and initially I couldn't think of anything to have them do except…
"You two, can you persuade the guards that who or what is going on is not a major threat and that it can be attended to well I don't know just I need these spears and swords away can you help with that please?" I asked and they both agreed to which they separated and went to what looked like commanding officers of some sort and began to give somewhat of a report or something or another.
"His heart is going slow-ish." Thrash said lifting his head up.
"Slow-ish? Like ba-…bump?" I replied.
"No, a little slower."
"Ok, just keep a track on that. Make sure it doesn't get slower." I kneeled down to observe Storm and any other injuries he may have acquired from who, or whatever did this to him. It appears that the other eye was not as affected as the swollen one but was in pretty bad sh- gyaah! His eyes popped open, (well for the most part, he tried to open them.) His eyes went from a small squint to as wide as he could open them.
"Whoa now, it's getting faster!" Thrash said.
"Listen to me Storm dude, runner, whatever, you need to calm down. I'm not here to beat you up more. Thrash is here with me. We're trying to help you. You just need to calm down." I attempted to soothe him. Storm began to shake his head furiously.
"No…n-no no! No more please!" Storm coughed. Just before his eyelids began to flutter shut, a carriage with a red cross on it pulled up with a wailing siren. Two stallions stepped out in typical EMT get up, with a kind of stretcher you'd see in the old cartoons with the two rods and a type of sheet to make a bed looking thing. Yea, one of those things.
They gently rolled storm onto the stretcher thingy and lifted him up and into the carriage. They got in the back with Storm and slammed the doors shut. They kicked up dirt and were gone in moments. (That was faster than most ambulances in our world.) Right? I agreed with myself. (Best part of talking to yourself, you usually always agree on the same things.) Usually.
I was interrupted by a flowing piece of parchment floating in the wind, to the side of me. Now normally paper doesn't really grab my attention, but paper with words on it always has potential to it. I stepped over to it, picked it up, scanned the words and almost instantly knew what was going on.
"What is it?" Thrash asked, noticing my expression of horror mixed with awe and a hint of "oh sh*t".
"It's…it's the reason your friend is here." I said gulping mid-sentence. Thrash swiped the note from me and began reading out loud: "For your actions against your family you and your friends shall face the ultimate punishment once you return. Be it willingly, or by force, for a storm approaches and a new dawn will rise. Singed, S." Thrash, trembled the words out of his mouth.
"Son of a b*tch Sombra…" I said. Thrash sat and slinked down, his face of horror more extreme than mine. "This is troubling news, but we need to go see to your friend Storm. Right?"
Thrash was at a loss for words and didn't budge. Prince had been back and his face simply expressed rage, if anything. "I'll take that as an ok."
