Overview of Chapter 14: More of an understanding on Gine's past (First POV), the battle between Gine and Goku begins and one of the two will commence to the finals, not to mention an extra at the end!

A/N: I could've written the whole chapter in third person, but thought I'd try something else. Tell me what you think.

Chapter 14:

Goku vs. Gine

Past

Life's full of surprises, it's unpredictable, and sometimes questionable. Those who dislike these notions will do whatever they could to be a step ahead. It's not the simplest thing to do, wouldn't it be better to let the erratic happen and hope for the best? That's what I'm starting to believe and it might be what just saves me for this journey.

The night passes and the first sun has risen, the second will be up soon. My father and I have already left our complex and just arriving at the center grounds. The thought of being separated from my only relative terrifies me but the thought of never seeing him again is greater than the fear I have. It seems I'm the only one who thinks this way.

Over two hundred saiyans around the ages of ten and fifteen are present; most are under thirteen. Our population has grown, according to most recent reports our estimation is just under five thousand. This is only an assessment; some births aren't actually reported like they should be. Some parents abandoned their young to fend for themselves while they go their separate ways. My mother did that and if my father didn't step up to care for me, then it would be more than likely that I would've been sent to the other side.

In our civilization there are four areas to live in. The first is on the peak of our planet where King Vegeta resides. His land is where the richest soils are held, and with the soil comes the greens producing the air needed to inhale for our survival. His land would be perfect to grow out a harvest for our species, but his insistence on the land prevents anyone from actually entering and being able to grow any life.

The next land is inhabited by the elite warriors. Theirs is located right by the borders of his castle in case they are needed to defend and protect our king. The land they own has the most waterfalls our kingdom sees each year. The amount of rain that falls would be enough to drown them in their sleep but luckily they along with the next region are able to make the best of it. The water that falls is able to travel to our land and still be qualified as pure.

My region is located at the end of the wards. It's not for all third-classes; in fact only about six hundred saiyans reside in this area. That's less than fifteen percent of the third-class population; you'd have to have served the elite or one of the royals to be able to reside here or in my case, be the descendent of someone who did. Our area has the shops, lakes, and medical wing leaving our area to handle most of the merchandise. Our medical branch isn't up to date compared to other planets but thanks to the medicine we have, our wounds heal much quicker than others would.

Lastly is the other side. This area is where most third-classes reside. While most do travel to our section, they are ordered to leave before nightfall. I do not know much about this area, but my father has many acquaintances that reside in the area. I only have a couple of friends and one of them happens to reside in the other side with his mother. The land is said to have the lowest amount of oxygen available to survive, thick as can be. Supplies are always scarce, which is why the wards are open for them to travel to our area and obtain their needs. Most of the materials collected from different planets are to be given to our merchants so they can determine the value and either sell them to our people or ship them as valuables to our king.

"Come on kid." My father ruffles up my, now, short hair. He was pretty upset last night about me losing most of my hair, but if I'd be truthful I would say it's possibly the best thing that could've happen to me. My hair outgrew my body and covered my eyes most of the time, preventing me from seeing my feet most of the time.

He takes my hand and pulls me over to Kobacha, and Zukkini. They were here to see us all off to the beginning of our future. Both of them had blank expressions, well Zukkini had more of a sneer, but relaxed their faces when they saw us approach.

"My, how lovely you look child." Kobacha told me.

I blush at her compliment, "Thank you."

After she chopped off my hair my father had given me an armor like no other. He must have spent a fortune for I had never seen anyone wear of a similar design. I didn't want to accept something that could've spent more than I'm worth, but he insisted. The armor is the color of blue and green, there were no shoulder pads, but the uniqueness of the armor is the style of a dress; he purchased a pair of white boots along with blue pants for me too.

"Well if it isn't Kyassaba!" Kobacha called out.

The saiyan she calls for was a giant woman; she had to be the tallest female ever seen. She was very muscular, supported a grayish brown tan, and had short, messy, unruly hair. Kyassaba walked our way with an indifferent expression, closely followed by her son.

She grunted at us with her arms crossed. Her son had the same posture; he had a scary resemblance to his mother and most would avoid the boy like the plague. His appearance shows that he'll be a tall and well-built man when he matures. While many do avoid him, it was his friends like me and Shugesh that sees there was more than just a scary boy behind the mask.

"Hi Borgos." I lifted my hand at him.

He raises a brow at my hair but otherwise shrugs. His cheeks tint pink but the coloring disappears as Shugesh shows up behind him, clasping his shoulder. Their armor is very different; Borgos wore blue top armor, blue pants, and blue boots. Shugesh on the other hand wore green top armor, straining—to the point of ripping—green cloth, and matching boots.

Tweeeee

A high pitch sound came from above cutting off any conversation from anyone around. The sound came from one of the elite's that were just arriving. There were exactly two-hundred members in the elite force. They all wore special armor supporting our King's family crest; their armor had shoulder plates, along with hip and crotch guards; each wore white gloves, and white boots. Each saiyan stood in two perfect lines, standing proudly and with grace as our king descends to the ground.

This is actually the first time I've see him in person. He like most other saiyans had black eyes, tan skin, and appeared built. His hair pointed upwards and instead of having black hair he appeared to have dark brown hair. His armor was similar to elites but his had thicker guards, blue boots, black underclothing covering all skin under his shoulders. The armor was red and white, his crest imprinted on the right side of his armor, and he wore a blue and red cape.

He soon started speaking, starting with our history of the very first saiyans landing here over a hundred years ago, before it became Planet Vegeta and was known Planet Plant by the truffles. I already know our planet's rich history along with the names of the infamous and famous inhabitants before my time.

My eyes soon started to wander around, gazing at each saiyan that'll be sent to one of the three planets. All of them wore smirks of confidence, a few stood by their mothers, fewer by their fathers, and the fewest were around a handful standing by both their parents. Most of them stood alone, some stood by younger siblings or even an elder sibling. It was more than likely those who stood alone were from the other side.

"Hurry up brats!"I turned my head to see a young woman pulling on something behind her. She was of average height, had short black hair from the back but in the front seems to be pointing in different directions, skin a grayish tan, her eyes black and seems average build. She wore a grey and blue armor along with black boots. She held a sneer as she pulled on two different armors, dragging the ones wearing them.

There were two boys being pulled by her. The first wore a light and dark blue armor with matching boots and fingerless gloves; the armor looked similar to the elites but thinner and shorter than theirs. He was of average height, dark tan, dark eyes, and short black hair tied to the nape of his neck.

The other boy was shorter, possibly a couple inches taller than me. He had a dark tan too, dark eyes, and had very unusual untidy hair. His hair was messier than the woman's was and it spiked from one side to the other. The boy's armor was blue and green with hip guards; he wore blue pants, blue boots with green tips, and wore red wristbands along with matching leg warmers. He had his arms crossed over his chest and glared straight ahead not meeting anyone's gaze.

Feeling a light shove, I tore my gaze from them to Shugesh who was staring with value at the untidy boy. He whispered to both Borgos and I, "That's Bardock isn't it?"

Bardock? That's the name that was chanted the day before. He must've been one of the boys fighting yesterday by our complex.

I shifted back to peer at King Vegeta, who was still in the middle of his speech, Shugesh again bumped me with his shoulder making me stumble. Borgos being the good friend that he is steadies me throwing a cold look at our chubby friend.

Shugesh ignores it giving a snort. "I heard that kid is tough, not like the elite kids though. Saw him in a fight the other day, most epic thing I've seen in a while." Of course he was there. When did Shugesh ever miss a fight?

I was about to turn back around when Shugesh placed his arms around both mine and Borgos shoulders "Hey Borgos ever met the kid?" Shugesh wouldn't be asking this question if the boy lived in our region. That must mean he's from the other side like Borgos was.

"Yes." Borgos was someone who said few words and preferred grunting or shrugging like his mother. He wasn't a big talker, but he was a great listener.

Shugesh looked like he wanted to say another word, but I interrupted by whimpering out. "Can you get off?" he soon realized that I was struggling with the weight of his arm.

"Oh," he gave a chuckle "Sorry Gine."

I gave him a crooked smile, rubbing my shoulder. "Not your fault." It was mine really. They never had a problem with these friendly simple gestures because they didn't feel the weight. Everything to them was light, while to me I had to struggle with these little things.

We all turned back around, just in time, to hear King Vegeta finishing his speech. He told us to go up to one of the elites and receive our scouter. From then on the next step continues.

Nervously, I looked up to my father who gave me an encouraging smile and a push. Slowly, with my hands clasped up front I walked over to the top soldiers of our world. Most of them were men, from what I could tell there had to be at least twenty female elites and none of them had a friendly expression. Giving a low whimper, I slowly made my way towards the woman with dark blue hair. She like the others wore a sneer and as I got closer it seems like her glare was worsening or maybe it was just my imagination.

I held my hand out towards her, she held out a pink scouter for me to take and before I turned around the lady measured my power level. "Sixty kid?" she snorted, "Good luck brat."

Pretending that I didn't hear, I closed my eyes and made a quick run back to the others. That wasn't the best idea, without seeing where I was going I bumped into someone who shoved me down. "Watch where you're going!" it sounded like a girl most likely my age.

My scouter fell from my hand, landing a few feet away from me. Tears sprung from my eyes, I couldn't do this! I'll never be able to survive.

Slowly, I moved to my knees, wiping my hands on my pants. Sniffles could be heard from me, but I bet no one was paying attention. I should be getting back, not sitting around. With that in mind I looked up, ready to stand, but stopped when I saw the boy, with messy hair, from earlier standing across from me. He was leaning on the ground picking up my scouter, his gaze slowly moved up towards mine.

I trembled, hoping the boy—what was his name? Bardock!—wouldn't throw or crush my new scouter. He didn't do either instead, he stood right back up and I quickly followed. Bardock had a blank expression on his face as he stared at my tearful one. He took those few steps towards me, pulled out his arm with my scouter and waited for me to open my palm up. Instead of dropping it he quickly latched onto my wrist with his other hand, causing me to yelp, and gently placed the scouter on my palm. He closed my hand, leaning close towards me—he was a little taller—and whispered "Don't lose it. A scouter is one of our best chances at staying alive."Then he turned around, walking back to the young woman and other boy.

Taking a step back, I waited a few seconds before rushing back to my father. He along with Borgos mother and Shugesh parents seem to be talking to the boys about something, but stopped when I came up. The boys each stood by either side of me with saluted expressions. I gave my father a confused look, only receiving a grin and shrug.

King Vegeta let one of the elite's explain the next part. We were all to turn our scouters on and on the screen showed a planet. Each one of us are assigned one of the three planets, our mission was to scout, d-de-destroy any life without lowering the cost of the land, and bring any valuables. Our scouters will be documenting and reporting back anything it can back to the elites who will then give the information to our King.

"Some of you will come back, some of you will not, for those who come back will be congratulated and be welcomed to our army." Those were the words I least wanted to hear.

Before we knew it, our time for departure was here and the elites were announcing the planet's departure by the pods. I hugged my dad with all my might, even if he couldn't feel it, and cried again. If this was the last time I had to see him then I want to remember him from the best of my ability.

"Planet Insernia."

This is it "Goodbye daddy."I was quick to run away from him, knowing that if I stayed another moment I would cry out again. I stopped by the pods there were about seventy of them, my heart raced knowing this would be the first and last time I'd be inside a pod. Right beside me stood my only friends, I suppose the only good thing was that I'll see them before I died. They'll make it, I know they will.

The pods opened and we were told to go inside, once in we were told that instructions will be stated once the pods blast off. Before my pod's door closed I noticed Bardock going inside his, he seemed to notice me too but I couldn't get a look on his expression because my door had closed. He most likely had an indifferent expression.

Present

He stood on the other side of the arena, facing his mother. It's finally their time to fight and this time he wasn't a weak little kid, well he still is a kid, but he's more experienced now. He's trained under the same martial artist as she, fought different opponent who's given him an insight on different fighting styles and even techniques. He's ready, but is she?

She was in her own posture, similar to his, only her hands were open while his fists were clenched. Her smile was there, but her eyes gave a spark of worry. He knew from the start she was hesitant, his grandpa warned him before his passing she'd be like this. His mother had a fear of losing him but surly she would know he would never leave her. He knew that if he'd ever get lost, he would use his senses to find her. So what is there to lose?

"As you all know folks these two Son's who are in fact mother and child and not siblings," The announcer gave an awkward chuckle, most likely remembering earlier, "will be facing off against each other. They'll be fighting for their spot to go to the final round facing off against Jackie Chun!"

Goku still wasn't sure why anyone would think his mother would be his sister. She clearly looked like his mom, and besides he was an only child.

"You ready mom?!" He called out.

He observed his mother, she grinned at him. He was crouching lower moving slightly towards her right. "As I'll ever be! You?!"

"Do you even have to ask?" Goku narrowed his eyes, grinning playfully.

Mr. Alonsa hearing this gave the signal to start and the gong was hit.

The crowd held their breath waiting for one of the two Son's to throw the first hit. They witnessed both fight by their previous battle and none could predict who was the strongest. The mother fought without much effort, but the boy seems to have grown in strength after the unusual development. It can really be anyone's guess on who would win this match.

Goku knew that he had to start this one, it wasn't that his mother wouldn't, he just knew that if his mother knew how serious he was about this then she wouldn't be wavering on the possibilities. He wasn't weak like he was a year ago, and she knew this but he could tell she still thought that she'd have to hold back on him. That's not what he wanted. He wanted—no needed his mother to take him seriously. He needed to show her that he's willing to give it his all in order to show her that it wasn't just her who felt the need to protect. She had always protected him from harm and she still will, but now he wanted to show her that she wasn't alone. He doesn't like seeing or knowing that she'll be in front of every battle, ready to sacrifice herself for his own safety. It's time that he proved himself worthy of being her equal.

He took a deep breath, a couple of steps back, then uses his tail like a spring to launch himself towards her direction. If he ran he'd have used more energy than he would've liked the less energy he uses now the more he'll have later. Like his mother he didn't know by how much the other had grown in strength. She might still be stronger than him and if she is then he'd have to find other means of taking her down.

Gine saw Goku coming at her with his fist ready to deliver his first punch. She moved to her right, inches before he came in contact with her face.

He suspected as much though, and is quick to turn around giving a sweep kick towards her left side followed by a left hook punch.

She took a step back avoiding his kick, and raises her left elbow to block his punch. Gine blinked in surprise at the force behind his hit on her arm.

Goku's grin became wider, as he sees her confused stare. That had to be a sign! He needed to show her just how strong he had become. It's the only way she'll put all her effort in the fight. Normally he's told to get your opponent in defense instead of offense, knowing they'll take more damage, but if he wants his mom to move away from her comfort zone then he needs her to start attacking.

He uses his tail again to raise his body up and aim multiple right and left punches towards her upper body. His aims are mostly on the easier areas to reach: neck, collarbone, cheeks, and nose.

She's able to block each one, using both her arms with a cross arm block with her head lowered. His hits are mostly centered on her face, using his fists only. With each hit she can actually feel the pressure sending her back. "What?" she whispers.

"It seems like Goku is taking the lead in this match folks!" Mr. Alonsa calls out. "It's clear that this little boy is willing to give it his all! Will his mother retaliate?!"
Back to the mob of people watching the tournament, three friends stood watching their friends fight one another. They were impressed by how much their little friend was able to grow in strength but were worried by how much he was pushing his mother.

"You don't think he's pushing her too much do you?" Puar asks worriedly. She knows how much Goku loves to fight, after seeing him fight Yamcha, but he wouldn't hurt his mother would he?

Oolong stared at the two suspiciously. "No, there's no way that mama is taking damage." He knows Goku was strong, he knows that kid trained hard over the year, but he also knows that mama isn't weak. She's trained alongside her son under the same person, meaning she would've grown as much as he was.

"Actually I think she is," Bulma told them "I think she's letting him though." She watches Gine, the woman who's tried her best to make her son happy. The teen might have only met her just a year ago but even she could tell that her maternal instincts can easily overpower any other feeling. It's one of the qualities she loves about that woman, she might not be her mother—she wouldn't replace her for anything—but something about her draws you in. She's the person you can help but be drawn to, meet her and get so attached you just mutter "Mama" without meaning to.

The seventeen year old places both her hands on either side of her mouth, hollering, "Come on Mama you can do it!" Bulma's friends with both Gine and Goku, she'll cheer for both of them, but she has to see them both give it their all.

Gine could hear Bulma calling out for her she turned her head slightly to see the teenager cheering for her and started seeing Puar doing the same. Oolong cheered for both sides, hopping from one team to the other.

"Mom you've got to fight back," Goku huffed taking a moment of rest. "I know you won't actually hurt me," he gave a small smile of remembrance. "I remember the safe word and you do too."

She raised her head, lowering her arms slightly. Their friends continued to cheer for them from the background, "I know." Her son wasn't going to back down from this she should've thought this through from the start. He's making her decide and it was plain as day which side he's pushing her towards.

He watches her think over his words, her eyes focused on his as if searching for an answer. It seems she found it because she was returning his smile with one of her own. "Let's do this."

Once the words left her mouth, he threw her a backhand punch.

His mother caught the punch in her hand, pushed his small figure back, and gave him a right side kick.

He jumped back on his feet, moving away from her kick, jumping a few spaces back. Goku couldn't help but feel giddy. Finally, he was facing his mother in a match. The rush of fighting someone he's looked up to, since he could remember, is making his heart race in excitement. Every fiber in his body was telling him to fight, fight, fight! It's the most amazing feeling he could ever experience.

Now what should be his next move? Maybe a surprise attack but what kind of move would take her by surprise? Something new but easier than the "tornado" he thinks he can still perfect that, but right now wouldn't be the best time. Hmm…then it hit him, he could always pull off that move Jackie Chun did on Krillin to win.

Goku giggled knowing he had a surprise move for her. He was quick and swift to move away from his previous position, leaving behind his after-image, as he phased behind her intending to give his mother a back kick.

She however saw this and copied his movement, also using the afterimage to phase away from her spot to his right side, throwing an axe kick.

Surprised, even though he shouldn't be, Goku felt her kick land on his side sending him off balance. He stumbled away from her, falling on his back, "Should have seen that coming." He mutters before getting right back up.

Behind the walls of the arena Yamcha was gaping at the duo fighting "Did they actually…?" he couldn't form the words "D-did the two real—really—,"

"Unbelievable!" Krillin mutters gaping along with him.

"They really did learn your technique!" The eighteen year old couldn't wrap his head around the fact, Goku and Gine had learned and mastered the afterimage technique. The same move Jackie Chun used to beat Krillin.

Jackie Chun couldn't look away from those two they mastered his move after just seeing it in once "Gine saw the afterimage before anyone could even tell the difference." Her sight must truly be incredible. Actually both mother and son's sights were better trained than the average human eyes. It could've been their training that helped or it could've been something else.

Goku started stretching, testing his movements by throwing a few punches in the air along with some kicks. There wasn't any injury which was a good thing; he wouldn't want this match to end early.

"Still alright?" Gine calls out to him.

He gives her a thumbs up. "I can't be beat that easily!"

She breathes a sigh of relief. He isn't weak, her son is strong, and his abilities come naturally to him. Goku really wouldn't be beat that easily.

The twelve year old came at her again attacking from the front, with his fists, each punch being dodged. He aimed at her side, with one of his kicks, making her stumble and from evading his next moves. Goku swung his other leg kicking her left hip and punching her abdomen.

He saw her fall and rushed over to deliver another punch, but she moved both her hands back capturing his wrist and throwing his body in front of her.

Goku did a back flip, going for a flying kick except she moved towards her left. He moved back giving her a double punch.

Gine jumped away from the punches, giving her own set of strikes.

He grabbed each fist in his own, trying to throw her off, and she the same to him. They could both tell the other was strong but who was stronger?

She had more strength than her son. Her hands gripped his tighter, raising his body up aiming to throw him to the side.

He saw this though, and latched his tail towards her left wrist. Goku rose both his feet up kicking her chin away from his body.

She caught herself from falling, leaning by the wall waiting for him to come at her again.

He raced towards her jumping at her to strike her once more with the same move. His legs were caught though by her own tail and thrown off to the side.

"Wah!" He yelps as his body was close to falling off the arena. "Gotta be more careful." He mutters getting right back up.

"Mom's still stronger than me," he noted "That means it'll be harder to fight her if I'm just using force," he walked back towards the center where she was already waiting for him. "I've got to find a way…"

Goku got back to his stance, listening to his breathing and comparing it to hers too. "We've both wasted about the same amount of energy." The young Son knew that a knock out wouldn't be the easiest choice, which means he'll have to knock her off stage. That'll be harder though, when your mother knows how to fly. Either way neither is the easiest choice.

He tries to think of the best ways he could attack, knowing each one would be countered.

"This is looking like a doozy," Mr. Alonsa told the audience. "It's incredible how strong both these fighters are! This fight is looking better than the previous matches today!"

"That's it!" Goku's eyes widen in realization. He knows how to beat her!

Gine looked confused as her son punched his other fist. Her eyes narrowed slightly knowing he was planning something. Whatever it was she needed to be ready.

She trained her eyes on Goku's form waiting for him to make his move. Not a minute after, did she see him charge back at her. Gine waited for him to get closer, ready to strike back as he aims for her. Only he didn't.

He raced right past her, towards the brick walls, climbing them up with ease and jumping to the sky.

"What's he doing?" She mutters. No matter, she'll just follow him up.

Goku still going higher and higher, peered down at his mother where she was quickly flying up to meet him. If he can just get a little higher up, "Come on just a bit more."

Gine flew through the clouds, passes a few flocking birds, and two random flying balloons before finally reaching her little boy. She successfully gets to him right as he starts descending the sky.

He sends her two palm strikes from each side, only being successful with the second left. She grabbed her nose in pain leaving him with an opening on her lower body. He gives her a spiral kick towards the knees, sending her back a couple of paces.

Gine moved forward, throwing him a straight punch, victoriously moving his body more than a few feet away. She saw him aiming for another punch, but she turned around grabbing his arm and throwing him away from her.

She didn't know what it was, but a sudden thrill; greater than she's ever felt compelled her to attack more rapidly than ever before.

Her punches came at Goku swifter, giving him a harder time to dodge them. Her speed increased, causing him to be hit a couple of times.

He moved away from her, using all the speed and strength he could muster to attack her too. It was almost as if they were blurring images now, moving from one side to the other. Each time one swung the other would move away and throw one of their own. It was becoming more difficult for either to land a hit.

Goku is currently using his all, and maybe she was too. It was difficult to tell though, he was too busy blocking her hits and throwing his own.

He could tell they were getting closer to the ground. It's only a matter of time till one of them hit the ground first.

The preteen gave Gine an uppercut, dodging her right kick, and elbowed her ribs. He moved away from her or tried to.

She grabbed onto his ankle ready to strike back when she felt the Earth beneath her. It wasn't the arena she felt but the ground of the Earth beneath her. Her back hit the ground with much force that a small tremor sounded around the area.

Goku blinks as his back hit his mother's front. He stared at the sky for a moment unmoving. Neither of them said or moved at all, not a single sound could be heard.

It was silent, until he heard her chuckle.

Gine couldn't help but laugh. At the beginning she feared for her son, she's always been stronger than him, and she might still be but he was catching up to her now. Pretty soon he'll be stronger than her or not. She doesn't think he'll allow her to ever give up and she won't. They'll both keep training and keep the other on their toes, but for now her son has another match to win.

She wrapped her right arm around Goku, lifting him up as she stood up from her, self made crater.

The crowd stood silent when the duo fell from the sky towards the Earth. They couldn't make out any of the fight from above; their moves were just too fast, which made them surprised when the dark haired contestant's crash landed.

Mr. Alonsa after getting rid of his shock raced over to the spot they landed. They actually managed to hit right on the tournament grounds, just not next to the arena.

"Hey you two okay?!" He calls out.

Goku nodded, "Yup!" he jumped from his mother's arms placing his arms behind is head.

"Uh…what happened?"

Gine copied Goku, placing her own arms behind her head. "I lost."

They went back to the stage where Mr. Alonsa announces, "Son Goku has won! He is now the youngest boy ever to compete and make it to the finals where our World Champion will be declared!"

Cheers from everyone could be heard, they all applauded for Goku's win and they were excited that the final round is on its way.

"That's our Goku!" Oolong calls out clapping with enthusiasm.

Puar did her own back flips in mid air, clapping and laughing. "Yay Goku!"

"Wow he actually did it." Bulma said cheering by their side.

Krillin and Yamcha were cheering from the other side excited that one of their friend's are going to the finals!

Jackie Chun watched intensely at the two on stage. He saw every movement from both; they fought powerfully that is true. What Goku did was remarkable, but if Gine had caught on quicker she would've been the one he'd be facing off and not the twelve year old.

Krillin ran off to join his fellow peers congratulating Goku on his win and Gine for her amazing performance.

"I can't believe how strong that kid's gotten," Yamcha chuckled "Now I know I wouldn't have stood a chance against him—or either of them!"

Jackie nodded "They've both accomplished a lot." He'll have to be careful and not underestimate Goku for the next round. It's also good to remember for future times in case he'd ever face off against Gine.

Past

It only counts if we return. That's what we're all aiming for, but many will lose this game. At least that's what they tell themselves, what they don't understand is this isn't a game. This isn't something we can heal from; it's something that can actually kill us.

The only way to avoid losing is by playing the game and playing it right. One wrong move and it's all over. It's every saiyan for themselves at least that's what we're taught.

It's a good thing I don't play by their rules. I make the decision and I choose how it goes. All I need is to follow three simple steps: scout, kill, and advance. If I had to have a rule to follow it would probably be avoid any disturbances around the way. Simple as it sounds I should have known it wouldn't be that easy.

I could've let Gine take the win and let her fight with Jackie Chun, but wouldn't that have been too expected? Her experience only outshines Goku by a few years, but they both learned from Master Roshi and the start grandpa Gohan gave them their basics. Her strength from the beginning came from the gravity level she grew up in, if Goku was raised in the same he most likely would've caught up quicker.

There's going to be tournament matches throughout the years, if there's disappointment that Gine won't be in the final round and obviously win this year's competition, it's not the end; she'll actually be the winner of a tournament…eventually.

What did you guys think of the fight? I tried to picture them fighting the entire time, trying to determine which move would've gone well with the next.

Kid Bardock finally showed up! He's not the Bardock most of you would've wanted but he's still the same person. What exactly are your thoughts on him? Too early to tell? Don't like him? Like him? Not how you expected they'd meet?

Lastly, I don't know if anyone notices or even goes back to check but the pairings page does get updates and if anyone has any ideas for pairings (not in the definite list) then please do say so.
