Beta: QWERTYBlues (Thank-you! Thank-you! Thank-you!)
A/N: I don't think I was able to answer everyone's questions =(
I'll try to PM all reviews (w/ questions/requests/etc.)-Sorry guys, I love college but I'm tired most of the time now.
Questions about Raditz? Start reading!
Power Levels? They'll be shown in Character Profiles from now on.
Still think Goku is completely naive? Start Reading!
Some of you had questions in the past (and still do) of what exactly Gine could do before all of this (Other than a butcher): My answer-Tracker. What's a tracker? This chapter will have a brief look and...
Other characters with POV? I've decided Chi-Chi will have a complete chapter (Guest who suggested it-THANK YOU...she's my ultimate favorite!) in her POV. I'm also thinking of placing a partial chapter with Bulma's POV (In Part II you'll see why). Anyone else who have a suggestion for who else they'd like to read from? Third and first?
Also, I think I might be willing to write all the movies instead of just a handful, this story is going to be LONG, and what's over a dozen movies? Who cares if they don't fit in, it's called imagination and that's why I'm changing: when it takes place and how it's going to be. If your curious who got the most and least votes I'll close the poll and let you all see.
Chapter 15:
Finale part I
Ten minutes.
That's how long the break will be before the tournament commences and the battle between Jackie Chun and Goku will take place. Out of the two only one will win, becoming the World's Martial Art's Champion. Not only will the winner take the title but will also take home five hundred thousand zeni.
To Goku the money was the least important. He didn't care about the title either. What he really wanted was another battle. He truly enjoyed his last couple of fights: with Nam who proved to be a worthy competitor, and his mother, who he was certain fought him as an equal. He felt a little disappointed that he still wasn't as strong as her, but with a little more practice he'll be her exact match. At least he proved to her that he could handle his own, now she wouldn't have to worry about anything! He bet he could even take on the monster that killed his grandpa.
Goku turned his head to see his mother laughing at something the purple haired lady said. She appeared really confused after laughing, he wonders what they could be talking about. Meh, as long as she doesn't turn into another girl, like the rest of them, then he doesn't care. He likes the way things are and wouldn't want to change them for anything in the planet. The only thing he wants is for him and his mother to train, travel around Earth finding strong opponents, and of course to get back their four star dragon ball.
"Aren't you tired?" Krillin asks his younger friend.
"Nope!" He tells him.
If he was going to be honest, the fighting had taken a lot of energy away from him. He actually did feel worn out at first, but after a few minutes the exhaustion worn off and he felt better than before. It's really incredible how after any good fight he'll feel refreshed and ready for another go. Goku asked his mother about that feeling some time ago, her response "Anyone would feel stronger after a battle."
He repeated the statement to his friends who gave the other a side-glance but otherwise shrugged it off.
Their conversation changed from him to Master Roshi to Jackie Chun being Master Roshi again.
"He does remind me of Master Roshi but I don't know." Goku admitted. There's just something about the old man that would remind anyone of the other.
Speaking of Jackie Chun, said man was staring at the trio with caution. They seem to catch on to his stare and he was quick to avoid their gaze, turning his head to one side where Gine caught the trio's line of vision directing her stare to him. He turned his back to them facing the other direction where he saw Nam getting ready to leave.
"That was a great match you fought."
Nam stopped walking towards the exit as the elder spoke. "Thanks."
"Aren't you going to hang around and watch the final match?" He asks the younger man, already knowing the answer.
"I'd like to," He actually would enjoy watching the outcome. "But I have some problems that I need to address." These problems are only going to grow unless he finds a solution. The tournament money was practically their only hope but now that he lost…he shouldn't have stuck around to see the last battle, he should have gone elsewhere in search of answers to his prayers.
"Hey Nam," The younger male, sparked out of his memories, turned to face Jackie Chun again. "Here catch!"
A small tablet was thrown his way, confused he asked, "This is a dino-cap isn't it?" His village might not have modern stores like the big cities have, but he remembers seeing these small capsules when they were first brought out years ago.
"Yeah, but… There's nothing inside." Jackie told him confusing the man further. "If you fill it up with water, you'll be able to take home as much as you want!" He tried hinting.
"How…" Nam gasps. "How did you know about that?"
"Minds are just like books Nam." He tells him with more hints. "They are easy to read if you know how." Chuckles follow his statement.
Nam realizes exactly who this man is and practically shouts, "What that guy said is true! You are Master Roshi!" How could he not see it before?
"SSSHH, SSSHH!" Jackie Chun or Master Roshi panickly tries quieting the man turning his head around, seeing if anyone was paying attention, specifically the boys "No…no one heard that right?"
The trio did not hear him, they were busy speaking to one another, but that doesn't mean another person didn't hear him.
Gine was only half paying attention to Ranfan as the other half was focusing on Jackie Chun. She noticed how he was paying attention to the conversation held by her son and their two friends. It was almost as if he was listening in on their conversation but why would he?
Her eyes followed his movements taking in any of his actions, noting them down as if to solve a puzzle. It's not that she didn't want to believe Yamcha but for one to dress up and act as another wasn't normal. Why would Master Roshi be Jackie Chun and join the competition when he could always be himself?
She knew she shouldn't, however something told her to listen in Jackie and Nam's conversation. It seems Nam was heading home which saddened her a bit. He still wasn't smiling like the rest of them were, it appears that there's trouble he needs to solve. Oh dear, the unfortunate man but it seems Jackie knew how to solve it.
That's strange how would he know? Did he just say he could read minds?! That's incredible! Gine really would love to learn how to do that, could he teach her? Will he—did he just say what she thinks he said?
"Gine are you paying-," Ranfan grabbed her attention again. "Oh! I get it."
What? Did she know Jackie Chun was in fact Master Roshi or did she mean she knew of Nam's situation?
The younger woman saw Gine's interest wavering and tried to get it back but it seems something or should she say someone captured her attention. Her blue eyes directed her sights behind her where the old fighter and Nam were conversing. If Ranfan had to guess she would say the raven haired had interest in Nam.
It's not uncommon for a single mother to want companionship. Heck, she probably spends the majority of her time taking care of her son. Ranfan couldn't really imagine being a single parent, but she wouldn't blame the woman for being lonely. Her own mother didn't even last a year before remarrying after her divorce.
"I still don't get it." Gine muttered, why would Nam even need water?
"What's not to get?" She finds it very obvious that Gine likes Nam.
Gine didn't find what Ranfan found obvious, Jackie knew of Nam needing water but why would he need a lot and why is Master Roshi wearing a disguise?
While both women were obviously not in the same page; Master Roshi had led Nam outside to explain why he needed to fake his identity.
His three students are very promising to him but he was bothered that they could lose interest if they believed they were unbeatable. Goku and Krillin are his youngest students, they were incredibly strong for their ages but if either believed they were unbeatable then they'd lose interest, when they could be expanding their skills.
Gine was a different matter. She was older than the boys were, but if he had to be honest her mental mind was almost childlike. Of course those naive moments don't stop her from behaving like a parent when needing to or knowing when the situation calls for her mind to switch from child to adult. At first he believed she was only learning for her son, but now he's induce to believe that she was learning for her rather than someone else. It's difficult to explain without really knowing how or exactly knowing why.
He really just wants them all to give it their all and never forget what's important. They all deserve to keep having fun in their training, being carefree about everything rather than building the wrong character. Anything could happen at any time in their lives and as long as he could prevent it he will.
_(-V-)_
"Mom!" Goku gasps. "It's almost time for the final match, can you not try to hug me so tight?" He squirms from his mother's arms.
After Gine decided it was hopeless for Ranfan to tell her what she knew, the mother went off to join the boys. The clock on the wall read a few minutes before the ten, making her a bit jumpy. Her little boy was about to face their sensei, who he had no idea was his competitor. It made her uneasy knowing the elder knew more than he taught them.
She wanted to shield her son from danger, be his protector; aiding him whenever she sees fit but…that was just her overprotective side speaking. Her boy is growing each day he wasn't always going to be small. Today he is twelve soon an adolescent, then an adult, before she knows it her baby won't be one anymore and he'll have one of his own. It's one of her dreams to see him have a family of his own as well as being able to protect them from harm's way.
Chuckles fell from her lips as she thought of this. Her kind wouldn't dare think the way she does, normally they would feel embarrassment when one of their young is able to overpower them but to her that would make her feel reassured. To know he'd be stronger than her would mean when she couldn't protect and keep them alive, he'd be able to. It's a sense of pride knowing her son will one day be able to care and defend his own family.
Although for now she'll enjoy having her son be a child. "Sorry," She mutters without any guilt. "You're just growing up too fast!" Her arms tighten around him for a second longer before releasing him.
Goku gave her a curious glance. "What's wrong with that?"
There are plenty of reasons she could think of but all of them were selfish. Instead of answering she turned to Krillin capturing his underarms, as if he was a toddler, bringing him into one of her bear hugs.
"She's acting unusual."
Yamcha moved his gaze from Gine smothering Krillin to his young friend with a raised eyebrow. Gine might not act like a regular adult most of the time but even she is going to act like a parent. He can't recall his own mother, she passed a couple of years after his birth, but his father would always have random emotional moments and complain of the years that passed so quickly. "No," He sighs to Goku. "She's acting like a caring parent." It would seem that she has taken Krillin as one of her own too. The eighteen year old felt a pang of jealousy, for a moment, before pushing it away.
"Can't breathe!" Krillin chokes out.
"Oops." Gine places the thirteen year old down.
"It's…fine…" He says between gasping breaths, how on Earth does Goku even handle her hugs?
Almost immediately, after he regains his breathing normally, the announcement for Goku and Jackie Chun come. He saw Gine giving Goku an energizing pep talk, him responding with an identical eager voice. Their other friend stood with a frown directed at the wall. "What's wrong Yamcha?"
"Huh," He responded shaking his head "Nothing…just thinking."
Yamcha's earlier thoughts disappeared as soon as he saw "Jackie Chun" walking through the back entrance. His frown turned to a grin while he strides over to the older male. "Don't lose to your disciple Master Roshi!"
"Look how many times do I have to tell you?" He says frustrated. "I'm not Roshi! Are you deaf or something?!"
The young adult's grin widens telling the elder of his already figured out reasoning but the old man continued to deny it even going through the trouble of trying to tell him Master Roshi was at the audience and just to play along he went over to where he was pointing.
"Eh?!" If his eyes aren't playing tricks on him then the real Master Roshi was over by the crowed in the center. It was impossible to miss with the bald head, sunglasses, and turtle shell. After apologizing to Jackie Chun for his false accusing he went over to his friends mumbling his mistakes.
Gine started patting his back in a comforting manner. She didn't know what to tell him, Master Roshi must have someone dressed as him in the crowed. His reasoning for being Jackie Chun is still unknown to her so she doesn't want to say anything without knowing his intentions.
-
It has begun.
The fight has started and he couldn't be happier. He knew he shouldn't be expecting an easy or at all win but that didn't make him any less energetic at the thought of winning a fight with this old experienced fighter. His mother did tell him to always try his best, guaranteeing that he'll always improve as time flows.
Goku faces Jackie Chun knowing right away he wouldn't waste any time and go on the offensive. At their sign to start, Goku was proven right. To avoid being hit on the first shot he dodged the old timers attack by jumping away.
That wasn't the best idea. He clearly saw this as an opening and knocked him away from the arena.
Hm... What to do? What to do? He thought as his body was in the sky being thrown off somewhere miles away from the tournament. He could use the kamehameha wave like Jackie did but shouldn't he save his energy?
His tail swayed slightly as the air rushed right by them. He giggled at his tail; the way it moved made it look like a snake! He wonders what else it could do. "Hey wait a minute!"
Sticking the tip of his tongue out in concentration with his hand below his chin he tried to think of a way his tail might be able to help with this mess. His lack of flight, for now, meant he had to find other means to get back to the arena or maybe not. His tail could come very handy and act as a replica to some things. Now what things could fly that his tail could copy? Not a bird, not an airplane, not a balloon, what about a helicopter? Could he do it?
No sooner than he thought of it did he actually attempt it. His tail did support the weight of his body and was able to carry him back to the tournament, much to the surprise of everyone especially his opponent.
He waved at everyone, laughing at Jackie Chun and giving him a silly face with his tongue out in a cocky manner. He doesn't know why but he just enjoys surprising others with any new technique he can come up with.
Goku turned to his mother giving her the peace sign with their signature smile. He wonders what she was feeling right now. He couldn't ponder on that as Jackie started speaking to him again.
-
She was proud. If anything, she felt relieved her son isn't as she was as a child. The childhood she grew up as wasn't ideal, despite what many would say. At the beginning it was fine. Yes, she was left in the care of Kobacha more than she would've enjoyed but her father was a warrior. He didn't settle as a worker around the area, those positions were mostly taken by the saiyans who become too injured beyond repair. Few by mothers who decided they wanted to lower their risk of dying in order to care for their young.
Goku did thrive to battle, the capabilities to learn techniques as he goes, he didn't lack his healing abilities like she did as a child. She does see herself in him, but she could also see his father in him. It wasn't just appearance wise, no there was enough differences to see they weren't exact replicas. Thankfully, he hadn't gained his attitude from him. If he had, she would've tried everything she could to set him in the right direction.
The way their kind acted towards living creatures was brutal and barbaric, shameful acts not prideful. Her heart always tore apart each time she had to witness a killing. Fear tore at her along with guilt as others were murdered. She never wanted to take part in that kind of life. Her reluctance to join in had made her an outcast and as many marked her a "weakling." If becoming strong was only for causing death instead of preventing it, then she was okay with being weak but that wasn't what the universe apparently had in store for her. Instead, everything she knew of had died. It was after her mate died she had to take on the responsibility of training; to care and show for their youngest to learn. She had already lost her first born, losing her youngest would be beyond cruelty. If becoming stronger and learning how to fight will guarantee her baby's survival then let it be.
It was the different methods taught on Earth along papa Gohan's words that inspired and helped her. It was thanks to him that what was once tried to be drilled into her head wasn't right and that instead of "The strongest murder and conquer" it was "Become stronger to protect and have fun." That was something she could live with. Fighting here was a choice, something fun, nothing forced upon.
Gine sighs, her Goku was truly blessed to be growing in such an environment. His choices were his to make, and no one would take them away. Not like hers were, even when she finally thought she had a say...
"Someone always made them." Her whisper was very low that nobody could have the slimmest clue she even spoke.
Someone always did make them and they all had reason for doing so. It wasn't fair for her to ask them to leave her to her own decisions. She from the very beginning always managed to ruin plans. Her mother at least managed to escape having any relation towards her. Father, the one who raised her at the best of his ability, even he had plans but once he was given a newborn daughter those had to change. There were many others she could name and within reason they had reason to place blame on her. Her mind and mouth were both something she let stray too much, not like anyone liked to take her seriously.
Though, there was one who she managed to challenge the mind of constantly. He had always been stubborn and once his word was out it was practically impossible to change his opinion.
She smiled sadly as she remembered all those arguments they've been involved in. From the start it seems all they ever did was question the other. He liked to confuse others by claiming what was, wasn't, and what isn't, is. She however was barely ever baffled by his remarks. He often did become puzzled by her opinions but even he couldn't see what she was able to see.
If she allowed herself back then, perhaps, she would've seen that their relationship wasn't as perfect as she had fooled herself to believe. They argued more times than she believed anyone could count, and rarely did they come to harmony. He mostly won and she would often question, at nights, why she let him? Very few of his wins did he actually have perfect reason, most were flawed. Was it her fear that he would've eventually gotten tired of caring for her and their child? That at any time he would be able to leave them? Did her love for him blind her of being a more nurturing mother towards her eldest?
She knew her eldest would seek her out before his father. Raditz, her first born, had developed a certain fear of his father during his toddler years. He, did, find pride of being his son but even that pride couldn't shed the fear of being disowned.
She didn't like thinking about it but many times she had wondered if Raditz and Goku taken more of her genes than their father. Perhaps it wasn't her unwillingness to train but something genetic that caused her to be weak. Her power level along with healing capabilities at youth might explain some things. Then again she might not have passed it on; they were both born with average levels and thick skin.
Her eyes closed as she tried to imagine what it might've been like for both her sons to have been raised together. If she hadn't given up the dispute and Raditz wouldn't have been endangering his life, each time he took on missions with the young prince, then maybe just maybe he would still be alive joining his brother and her on their adventures. Instead he had returned home without finding her or his new baby brother. Did he arrive earlier than expected because he had heard of his brother's birth? What must've been his expression when he found out neither would ever return to the planet? Had he felt betrayal?
A sob broke free before she could even register what was happening. Her eyes blurred with tears threatening to blind her. Her body trembled as sobs were forcefully being held in. She bit her lip trying to conceal the sadness before anyone could notice. Thankfully she had moved to the left side while the others stayed on the right to have an easier view. She let a few tears loose before wiping them with her sleeve. Gine kept the sleeve right on her eyes as she could feel more tears rushing out. Her cheeks already felt warm and her nose felt colder.
She tried to assure herself that Raditz hadn't been alone during his final moments. Surely his father would have noticed him. He would've done something to comfort their son wouldn't he? He couldn't—wouldn't just leave him alone.
No, no matter what she thought she couldn't help but see an image of her small son with a helpless expression on his face. From the very beginning he had the tendency to come straight to her for answers, for affection his father didn't show him, and for protection even though he knew she was the weakest. He would cry at any little thing, no later after he would start to cry, she would soon be by his side holding him and telling him that everything would be alright. Gine knew his father hadn't shown their son any compassion since he was a year old.
He would hold her in public but only in private did he tell her how he felt about her. How could she doubt him of anything when he never lied to her before? Even when they were just strangers he didn't lie. All these questions were always going to remain unanswered and not only because the…they we…were dead but because she refuses to keep remembering all those painful memories.
She only had one answer for now except that answer led to another question. Her answer? Gine loves him. She loves him even after all these years. How? How could she still love someone even after all these years of separation? He was dead. She realizes after all these years that her love for him would be the main reason she gave in to any of his idiotic decisions.
Actually, she already knew the answer to that question. It was the same answer as to how their love came to be. He was, and still is, her savior. Her Bardock will always be imprinted on her, from then to now to most likely after death.
There will always be something there, a part she'll never forget.
_(-V-)_
Goku stared confused at the elder as the old man made claims then declaring them false and finally claiming they were true again. Is he right in the head or has he gone mad? Maybe he was using a technique to confuse him. Well it's not going to work!
While Jackie Chun showed him his Kamehameha difference from Master Roshi, Goku gave him a blank expression still pondering if this was part of his idea to catch him off guard.
"Ka," Finally he was starting the attack, "me," His hands moved the same way as Master Roshi's do. So maybe he was trying to distract him, ha! it didn't work.
The chibi got to position, moving his palms exactly as the other was. He replicated the move as if he's been doing it for years now, "Ka," he moved his left foot back a few inches, following his hand motions. "Me,"
Elder and child glowered at one another, pushing as much energy as they would dare into their attack. Silence is heard from the audience, waiting for one of the two to start the legendary move. Seconds ticked by before Jackie Chun released his first, believing with his years of experience he'd be able to channel more energy than his competitor.
"HA!" Blue energy is released from his hands and not a second later did Goku release his, showing an identical wave. "HA!"
He knew he could push more but he didn't want to lose more energy this early in the fight and it seems Jackie wasn't either. What would his mother do? From the corner of his eyes he saw his mother hoping she'd give some clue as to what to do, but instead he saw her covering her eyes with her sleeve.
Goku frowned, shouldn't she be watching him? He's in the final match and this is considered a big deal, why is she covering her eyes? While he pondered these questions Goku's concentration started wavering, giving Jackie a slight advantage.
The preteen knew he made a mistake by getting distracted. He knew if he didn't push more of his energy into his attack Jackie will overpower his but he also knew he would be losing the battle if he drained more of his energy. As a last minute resort, Goku abandoned his attack, quickly moving to his right allowing the wave to bypass him by just a hair.
Everyone, including Jackie Chun, seemed surprise as they just witnessed something that hasn't been seen by human eyes since Master Roshi's time, before his retirement.
He uses this chance to glance back at his mother. He expected a sheepish expression, showing her embarrassment of not watching him. Instead he was greeted by a face he hasn't seen in years. An expression he had thought he got rid of after his grandfather's death. This isn't something he ever liked to see and wished he wasn't even aware of such a face.
His mother might have thought he never noticed but he did. How could he not? With his sensitive hearing he was able to hear her sobs at night, when she thought he had fallen asleep. He admits he's not the lightest of sleepers but after accidentally hearing his mother crying one night, it became a concern and a habit to watch her silently, waiting for something to give him any clue as to her sadness. The first time he saw such an expression was around the time he was two and the last was the morning he saw his grandpa's dead body.
That grief stricken face was exactly as he remembered it. Her eyes moist with a slight red tint where the white should be, her cheeks: flushed, wet, and puffy, and her nose pink with sniffles quietly heard. Just looking at her anyone could guess she had a faraway look, this one worse than the ones she had earlier.
What causes this? Goku thought. His eyes narrowed as he thought of someone coming to his mom and giving her any bad memories. She's not supposed to be sad, that's not how he needs her, and she needs to be happy like he sees her every day. He really thought he'd gotten ridden of that look.
Although, he doesn't know what exactly causes her sadness, she'd never talked about it, and the few times he couldn't take her sorrowful nights, he would pretend to wake up just to comfort her but never asked her why. He was afraid she would be in even more pain. The only time he felt the same as she did, was when his grandfather died. It was the worst pain he ever felt in his entire life. Just imagining her going through it more times than he could count was torment itself.
Jackie Chun got over his shock and started planning his next move. He thought about using the double after image but the boy was distracted yet again. He doesn't want to waste more effort than he has to if he's not paying attention.
Goku felt his tail lower unhappily as he sees her eyes start to blink. She rubbed her face with her sleeve like before trying to hide away her tears but it was already too late. He'd seen them and he doesn't like them.
Gine had to stop this. She needed to stop thinking of the past, why was this tournament bringing back so many memories? Her son doesn't need this, he needs his mother to have her full attention on him and not be distracted by her tears. Turning her head towards the match she gasps as her son staring unhappily at her and Master Ro—Jackie Chun starting to make his move.
"Goku watch out!" Her voice didn't have any indication of her previous emotions. She was usually good at hiding them but now that her son saw he'll start questioning.
He turned around rather depressed but that depression was quickly replaced by surprise as he moved away from Jackie's strike.
Jackie moved closer to try another hit, but Goku was prepared this time. He maneuvered his right arm to block the assault and used his left to give him a punch towards the abdomen. Neither of his arms successfully touched the man as he realized too late he's been tricked by the after-image attack!
Whirling around he spotted the other replica but it wasn't the image he was expecting. "Looking for me?" He heard from behind before he felt his back being kicked and sent flying towards the bricks, yet again destroying a wall.
The double after-image, who would have thought? Goku poked his head from the pile of rubble spotting his mother first. This time she gave him her complete attention, right when he wasn't prepared…great.
Shaking it off, he jumped right out patting the dust off his pants. Glancing once more to his mother, he gave her a grin. For now they'll just enjoy the match, later he'll question her and this time he isn't letting it go.
He's hungry. His stomach is complaining from lack of food since the quarter finals, as much as he's enjoining this fight his hunger is getting to him again, "I'm just going to finish this up extra quickly!"
Goku already learned how to be a step ahead of the old timer. He made his double after-image into a triple—just so everyone knows he's not a copy cat. That drunken boxing technique wasn't something he could try since he's never been—what's the word?—Oh yeah tipsy! His grandpa had been the only one he's seen who actually knew that move.
Luckily for him, after Jackie landed a few blows, he recalled when his grandpa and mom were sparing. When his grandpa would act tipsy his mother had to try something quickly and the only thing she could think of back then was to act, like he was, but instead of drunk she'd manipulated a wild saber. They actually were able to battle well.
He could have tried to stage her wild saber but he wanted to try something different. Instead he ran off to the edge, got himself ready and performed his new crazy monkey technique!
That worked even better than he imagined! He was able to give his opponent more damage than he did to him and even got him to damage one of the tournament walls.
Goku thought he finally got to him, but his opponent exclaimed he was going to win and started coming closer to him while moving his hands in a strange, almost an a relaxing motion, humming a tune making him sleepy. He couldn't fight the sleep off and he was out like a bat before knowing it.
Next thing he knows Bulma is screaming about dinner and since he knows that Bulma can't cook, he rushed over to the side his mother was at asking for his meal or maybe his friend meant they were going out to eat? Where was his dinner?!
His mother shook her head at him. "Later." She told him. Later, how long is that? He looked over at Bulma who yelled that they'd go out for dinner after the match. That settled his stomach somewhat but he could still feel it.
"Janken." He said. Yes, that move hasn't failed him yet.
With his fist he aims a solid punch towards Jackie Chun's fist "Rock," unfortunately the elder caught it. He tried his "Scissors," but it was caught mid way. Finally he tried his "Paper," and once again blocked by his knee.
He's starting to think this guy might not only be related to Master Roshi but also know his grandpa. How else would anyone explain this guy knowing all of his grandfather's moves?
Goku once again is going to try his Janken only this time when he yells out "Paper!" he makes a fist for rock. The hit worked and he thinks he broke the old timer's nose, oh well!
Turning around again he felt relieved his mom was still giving him her full attention and this time he wasn't losing. It felt embarrassing to be losing before the match had barely began. He moved his back to face Jackie Chun, waiting for the old man to either stay on the floor and lose or get up before the countdown is over.
Jackie did get up before the announcer finished and while Goku is hungry he couldn't help that small grin appearing on his face.
This fight was a lot of fun.
"So here we are folks! Knees deep into the tournament's final match! On one hand is Jackie Chun's experience and superior technique and on the other, the youthful energy of Goku!" Mr. Alonsa made the scene more dramatic, "The sun is sinking low but this amazing fight has yet to be settled. Can the winner prevail before nightfall?!"
Yamcha and Krillin cheered from the side, confident that their young friend will win. Bulma, Puar, and Oolong said similar words assured the wild child will win this before nightfall.
Goku appreciated all of assurance in him winning this fight but he didn't hear his mother sharing the others' beliefs. She did cheer out when the event calls for it but she hasn't said anything about winning. Have fun and all but what about winning? Maybe she didn't want to get her hopes up in case he lost.
No way, he'll finish this match in no time now. Then after he wins, he'll have dinner! He can see how much this tournament will make his strength grow. "Now time to finish up so I can eat my dinner!"
Gine hid her smile behind her hand as he said this. He's proving himself as a big boy but still has that adorable attitude of his.
Jackie Chun's thoughts were the opposite, believing that the kid was being arrogant. Where on earth did he even get such an ego? The boy's mom isn't like that and he doesn't recall Gohan ever having an ego as big as his. No matter, after this next technique he'll surely have won this competition. He stood straight walking closer to the boy claiming his win.
Goku cocked his head to the side straightening from his own pose. This fight isn't over yet, even his friends are telling him from the sides. So what was he planning now?
The aged man spoke of using this move once before; on one of the best fighters he's ever acquainted, this fighter's name Gohan.
"So you did know grandpa!" Goku gasps. His earlier thoughts confirmed.
Jackie nodded to the twelve year old. He pushed his sleeves up, clasps his palms together and started concentrating, pushing large amounts of energy for this attack.
The preteen watched, bewildered at the old man. What move could he be talking about? Was it one his grandfather knew of or something even he wouldn't dare to try? This wouldn't be good. He should try to get to him while he was fully absorbed but he couldn't, his curiosity was getting the best of him. What move could be strong enough to claim that it would guarantee a win?
Then he noticed. Jackie Chun's hands were pushed forward with yellow sparks all around giving a shocking appearance.
"It's massive." He heard Yamcha say. His friend might as well as say it again since the sparks appeared to grow; the fighter's body seems to tremble from the amount of power.
What does his attack do? That's the question ringing around everyone's mind. They watched as his eyes changed color to a lighter almost silver shade, his body completely radiating blue electrical energy from his feet to his hair. He moved his hands up rasping out "Lighting Flash Surprise attack!"
Lightning?!
Goku didn't think twice before trying to get away. The attack hit him though before he could attempt. The shocks of lightning running through his body felt horrible it was almost as if he was being burned alive from outside to the inside one moment to the inside and back out the next. The volts of energy made him scream out in agony.
Gine felt her body freeze at the sight. This wasn't something she was expecting, this isn't something she even thought their mentor even knew. He wouldn't try to actually break her son would he?
"…any hope?"
"…die…quick."
No, no, no that's against the rules! He wouldn't dare! Gine felt something rumbling from within her chest, the rumbling turning to a growl as it tried to rip its way out of her throat.
Yamcha knowing his friend couldn't survive this tried to call out to him, to give up. He as much as their friends wanted to see their buddy win, but not if it meant he was going to die trying. Screaming out his concern along with their friends he felt like knocking some sense to the kid's head. Why isn't he giving up?
"Oh man why isn't he listening? Does he have a death wish?" Krillin asks frustrated his younger friend is refusing to listen "Maybe his mom can get his attention."
The eighteen year old agreed. He went over to Gine's side surprised she hasn't done anything yet, that was until he got near her. Her tail's fur puffed out, whipping lowly and slowly. He could hear her…growling…she was actually growling much like…before. Swallowing he took another step closer to her, feeling afraid of her.
"Gine?" He reached over to her, gently grasping her shoulder to get her attention.
What she did surprised him. "I'm going to kill him!" She snarled out the threat as Jackie Chun increases his attack on her son.
Yamcha quickly grabbed onto her wrist. "Krillin come quick!" He knew he wasn't strong enough to hold the mother. Her reaction to the scene shouldn't have surprised him, it was normal, but at the same time it wasn't. She's not in any way violent, not even when she battles; no one has ever made her have any ill feelings. Her negative emotions were foreign and downright scary.
Krillin saw Gine behaving like a rabid animal, she growled, snarled, and even hissing out low threats towards Jackie Chun. Over the time he's spent with her and Goku, he'd never once saw either react like this. They were always happy people who would pout and sulk at most, maybe the occasional slap for their master but nothing like this, "Wah…" He grabbed her other wrist like Yamcha directed him to.
They both held her, hoping she doesn't start fighting them. For now she was giving menacing sounds but pretty soon if Goku doesn't throw in the towel they fear she'll start struggling to go do something she'll regret.
"Give up kid! Give up!"
"You did just fine but it's over now!"
Both teen boys called to their friend to quit, before anyone gets hurt. Like him.
Bulma, Oolong, and Puar weren't having much luck at snapping out of it either even though everyone can tell he was struggling to not show much pain.
"Goku do it for your mom at least!" Yamcha yelled knowing the only one their friend cared enough to quit for is her.
The other teen called out, "She doesn't want you to die…you know!" Maybe he shouldn't have used the word "die." Gine's teeth started showing some impressive chompers, reminding the monk that both she and Goku do occasionally hunt with their own hands and teeth. The two had a predatory instinct that no human should even have. He knew this because they tried to show him how to hunt once and that wasn't an experience he wanted to try again.
Goku faintly could hear his friends calling out to him to quit. He wasn't planning on quitting this fight until one of them was knocked out. But apparently, he didn't have a choice. When Yamcha and Krillin mentioned his mother he knew he had to give up. She warned him in the past to know when to give up, and this is the time.
Opening his eyes he tried to make out the words but he couldn't. All he did was stare at the full moon, feeling his body start to fall into an abyss.
"Oh no!" Yamcha screams out along with many others. "The full moon came out!" His eyes lowered to Gine, she still hasn't seen it but the way she's acting, it's almost as if she had. "It's a full MOOOOOON!"
Krillin's eyes bugged out "WH…WH…it that…?" He's never seen his friend ever try that and why is Yamcha panicking over the full moon.
Fear circled around as each took in the appearance of the giant ape. Everyone but Gine who was still glaring at the now scared elder.
Thinking quick, the older boy of the two told the younger, "Krillin we've got to get out of here now but we also have to make sure Gine doesn't look at the full moon, she's already angry as it is!"
The younger boy gulped asking shakily, "What…do you mean?" He couldn't possibly be saying what he thinks he's saying. Could he?
Almost groaning out since his new friend is still in shock he quickly explains, "Look Krillin," he gripped Gine's wrist with one hand covering her eyes with the other, praying she doesn't react badly. "They turn into giant apes at the full moon and apparently it's genetic." He doesn't wait for him to process it as he tries to pull them away.
He moved them to the other side of the ring, trembling in fear as his giant ape of a friend started to destroy everything in his path. This isn't good! Yamcha had no idea to whom he would feel the worst for: Goku who was unaware of his destructive ape form, the referee who was telling everyone to leave while being forced to stay by obligation of his career, Jackie Chun who refuses to leave the ring knowing he'll be disqualified, or Gine who was shaking in anger and unmoved by her son being an ape.
Krillin tries to get his friend's attention, "Goku stop this nonsense now! You're putting everyone in danger!"
It seems his yelling just made his friend angrier as the giant ape slams his fists on the ceiling of the arena, sending large broken pieces of concrete to the group.
The two teens separated, dodging away from the solid stones. Yamcha in haste wrapped his arm around Gine moving her with him. She wasn't hissing anymore yet he could still hear her growling. This is very strange shouldn't she be trying to stop Goku like last time—only without going ape?
"It's no use talking to him! When he turns like this, he loses control of himself!"
"Then how do we stop him?!" Jackie Chun asks.
Yamcha's shoulders slumped. "I don't know last time we barely made it out alive. We needed Gine in her ape form to help but that's way too dangerous! Even she wasn't fully in control."
"We have to try something!" Krillin tells them, "How bad was she?" Maybe they were exaggerating.
"Bad enough it's like she was aware of being the ape's mother but think about seeing a gorilla mother and her new pup. She'll protect it with all her mite…she seemed to recognize us at a point to help but her sanity was being pushed away."
"M…moon…"
The three males moved their heads to face the mother of the giant. She was facing the ground, hiding her face from everyone.
"M…m…moon." Her growls were making it hard for them to hear.
"What?"
"G…get r…rid of…the…m…moon!" She finished with a snarl.
Jackie Chun looked up to the moon, giving a nod of understanding.
The teens rushed over to their friends with Gine being pulled along.
Bulma notices Gine's state first. "What's wrong?" The woman's tail was behaving like a cat's, when it's pissed off, concerning the teen girl.
"I think she's still angry at Jackie Chun." Angry? No, this wasn't anger, Gine was furious, Bulma could tell. The weird thing isn't that Gine is furious it's the fact she appears to be struggling to be in control. As if she's pushing some demotic monster down, this couldn't be because of the full moon. They've seen her react to it before even glancing at it and Goku too. It wasn't until they both stared at it that they became angry beasts. So what is it?
"Guys look." Oolong points out at Jackie Chun. He's shirtless muscles all buffed and ready to use the kamehameha full power.
Worried that he was going to kill their young friend, Yamcha rushed over to tell him all they had to do is cut off his tail.
"KA..."
"No wait!"
"ME..."
"Stop!"
"HA..."
"Jackie stop!"
"ME..."
"Don't kill him!"
That was it. Gine finally snapped she let out a snarl louder than before attracting attention to herself. She lifted her body off the ground, rapidly flying to the man who was trying to take away her son. All she could think of is taking away the problem, even she didn't understand by what she meant.
"HA!"
Gine flew past Yamcha, ignoring the brightness coming directly for her son. First get him away then get the human.
Past
"You can't keep it Gine." Her friend had told her.
Why couldn't she keep him? He looks so innocent and soft, like a newborn baby. What would be wrong in caring for this fluffy critter?
They arrived to Insernia, who knows how long ago. Gine was the first of the group to spot the marks indicating tracks for the inhibitors. She knew from the basics, her father and Kobacha both made sure she learned. Education was important because strength does not always guarantee survival. Unknown to them, she had used the clues to not chase after the creatures, bind to this planet, but to run away from them.
Unfortunately for her, both Borgos and Shugesh followed her. Straying away farther from the desert, they landed onto a secluded area full of vegetation. It was pretty random considering this planet has three suns.
Gine had rushed off unwilling to place an alien to its death, even if she didn't know how to fight. She ran, only stopping when she had found a small peachy colored fuzz. The tiny creature was very fluffy, it had no eyes either. Antennas were on top of his head with matching fluff balls and it even had a tail to match.
The creature is called a Pru, as her scouter pointed out. It seems only little is known about this native being. Must be one of the reasons they were ordered not to disrupt the wildlife.
"Prurp!" The pru's voice sounded between a hiccup and purr.
She doesn't want to let it go. "I'm not leaving." He was only trying to get her to get back on their "hunt."
Shugesh grumbled under his breath but refused to leave her behind. They've been friends since infancy along with Borgos. Their parents knew each other, battled together, and they should be following in their footsteps. Gine knew this but she can't, she just can't hurt them. It's not like she could anyway, all she could do is steer away and maybe go back home.
She knew this plan had flaws all around, even if she did make it, they'll still send her out. It's no guarantee she'll receive missions with her friends every time. She knew their parents had told the boys to keep her out of danger and she thought that was somewhat unfair. They, like their parents, worship fighting and don't mind blood being shed.
"Look, how about we go back, and the two of us takes care of it." By "it" he means murder.
Shaking her head she shifted away from them. "I can't."
"Prurp!" It calls out. The alien must have a mouth somewhere beneath all that fur. It's certainly loud.
Gine sighs at the fluffy creature. She let it go, crossing her arms and turning her back to her friends. Her eyes followed the Pru instead, focusing on it then on her friends.
She knew they could have easily dragged her but they were polite enough not to force her. At least she thought. "That's it, we're leaving kid!" Shugesh was practically the same age as her, why must he call her a kid?
She felt him grab her, ready to drag her away from the place. Gine opened her mouth to yell when it was cut off. "Grahph!"
Blinking, Gine and the others turned around to see a giant, hairless, scaly, metallic colored creature. This thing had no arms, had two legs with one clawed toe, spikes on its tail, grayish blue eyes, two nostrils that are double the size of its eyes, and teeth sharper than blades.
*Beep* all three of their scouters rang followed by a number appearing, "984"
"Nine-eighty four," Shugesh uttered. "That isn't bad."
Wasn't bad? It's almost the same level as an average third-class saiyan! Gine gulps taking a step back wondering where the small Pru ran off to.
"We can take him…right guys?"
Gine and Borgos gave him a look of disbelief. Their scouter all told them their power levels: Gine a low 60, Borgos a 345, and Shugesh 298. Adding all their levels together wouldn't even be equal to the monster! They shook their heads at him, Gine out of complete fear and Borgos out of experience. There was no way they'd be able to take on this thing and live.
Is this even the main subject or just one of their food sources? Hearing one of her friend's scouter she let out a low sigh, it's not the kind they were supposed to be looking for.
The giant creature called "Akuma" let out a roar stomping its way closer to the three. None moved, the Akuma sniffed all three lingering not a second longer with each. Its eyes weren't focused as if it were "Blind."
Gine took a breath.
The thing hisses at her voice moving its head to her once again. Sniffing her around once again, as if it missed something, Gine closed her eyes and stopped her breathing. Don't move, the blind creatures are more tuned in with their other senses, she reminded herself.
It moved away slapping its tail on Shugesh, who let out a yell, "What the hell?!"
Oh, oh, the other two thought as the Akuma turned around this time not fooled. All three had one thought for now and it was to escape.
Gine parted from them, forcing her legs to push ahead of her. She thought they were going to be sent to planets depending on their level? Shouldn't the creatures of this planet all range from somewhere low? She heard the reptile's steps heading her way.
She bit her lip stopping any whimpers from escaping. What's going to happen to her? Is this really how she dies, killed by a giant creature with no sight? The creature probably already has her scent along with her friends. This is all her fault! She should have made sure they weren't following her or at least have lost them before coming to this life full area.
Her legs were starting to burn from all the running she's been doing today. She usually never runs, her body quickly tires out preventing her from even trying anything! She started to slow down glancing around for a hiding spot, what does she know about the blind? Well there are two kinds the ones who could sense heat and the one who can't see a single thing. The truly blind ones use their sense of smell to guide them most of the time, meaning somewhere where her scent will be minimized.
The young girl sniffs around while running. It took only a moment for her to catch onto something. The smell was strong but it wasn't bad—like syrup—it was also coming from the top of the green bark, perhaps above where the pink and blue leaves were at. She heard the Akuma roar out again. Flinching she moved her tail to capture one of the lumber pushing her body up.
The climbing wasn't that hard, at least she could do this. Gine pushes her body above the branches using her tail to capture some distant branches. She peered around until she saw a yellow sticky substance pasted around the branches. Finally she made one final hop onto the area. Leaning on the tree, she sniffs around making sure the substance will hide away her scent.
Quietly she moves her knees up, hiding her face as she listens. The steps of the Akuma came to a complete stop. Don't move, don't move, was all she thought.
Seconds, minutes, maybe hours ticked by before the giant left. Gine waited till the steps disappeared before lifting her head up.
It was gone.
She let out a sigh of relief, wondering if she should go find her friends or maybe try to figure out how her scouter will allow her to communicate with them.
"Hey."
I'm so tired, so sleepy but because I've left you all in the wait for longer than a month I decided a few minutes isn't going to kill me in uploading.
How'd you like the chapter?
What did you think of the chapter?
How many questions do you have on the chapter?
One more chapter and we move on to the next arc-FINALLY!
I know many of you are stating-some even complaining-it's too canon-and I've realized that which is why I'm wondering how everyone is going to react when we get to the Red Ribbon Army Arc , why? What do you think? That's where we start seeing more changes in the characters and dive deeper into their thoughts...
Actually in this part along with part II are BIG HINTS of what you'll be expecting to come. Can anyone guess?
AUTHOR'S NOTE(CAPITALIZED TO GRAB ATTENTION): Attention all readers I have decided to release a prequel to "A mother's touch" which will be coming out after I finish this Arc. The new story is called "Questionable Past" (Why the name? I'm sure you have an idea), this story will be more involved with Romance and Drama but will be under genres: Romance & Angst. This story will have Bardock & Gine as the main characters starting from ages 15-20. I'm guessing around 16 chapters long, and will be written at the same time as "A mother's touch." Some things you'll be expecting: technology advancement (Side view), love-triangle, challenges they face, secrets kept, Frieza and his elite-minions- and much more!
AND FOR ANYONE WHO NEEDS TO READ A GREAT FF: For each chapter I post I'll recommend a story that in my opinion is amazing! Maybe you'll think so too...
Story: Culture Shock
Author: Brelic
Why read it: Other than having Chi-Chi as a fighter? =D
It's an amazing AU that will leave you saying "What happens next?" and "Yes updated!"
The story just captures more of your attention as you keep reading.
