Disclaimer: I do not own any rights to "The Lord of the Rings". I just adore it to pieces! Characters from the Real World are actual people however. You may NOT use them. Sorry.
NOTE: This is Part III (3) of the Fate Quartet. It already consists of Part I (Flashes of Light, Rulers of Fate) and Part II (A Destined Journey). Reading those stories first will ensure that you understand this one. Please, no flames. I know this would be classified as a Mary-Sue but, like I said back in the day, I wanted to have fun with merging book and movie and seeing just how someone from the real world... might have been able to influence the events of this literary masterpiece. Thank you!

Moira Revealed
Chapter 7:
Legolas and His Serious Stare
I don't think Theoden likes me very much. I say this in all honesty because of the fact that he glared at me when I suggested a sparring match with Aragorn. My reasoning, of course, was that I would need to sharpen my fighting skills for Helm's Deep... of course those who were part of our Fellowship don't have a problem with the idea... but Theoden's none too keen on a woman fighting.
Now I know why Eowyn's all emo about it... I mean it's REALLY distracting when you're trying to out maneuver a Ranger and you keep noticing glares from a king!
Don't think Eomer's very happy with it either... not that he's glaring at me or anything... to be honest I think I freak him out. Not every day a guy gets knocked from his horse by a woman falling from the sky after all.
Laters!
-Nil
"What?!"
Legolas smiled, tapping Nil on the top of her head. "Hold still and I will explain."
The woman sighed, crossing her arms over her chest. Behind her, the prince was carefully braiding Nil's hair in a similar fashion to his own. He had laughed at her inability to do it herself, which of course Nil had explained that seeing the back of one's own head was a little difficult and that it would just be less frustrating if he did it himself.
So here they were on the night of the 2nd of March, by Shire reckoning of course, sitting in Nil's room at Edoras. The woman had tried to persuade the people of Rohan that she could stay with her companions, for she had traveled this far with them, but Eowyn wouldn't stand for that apparently.
"I was merely suggesting that your footing needed work, Nileregwen. The reason why Aragorn bested you lies not in size but in speed. If your feet do not work as part of the whole, you will not be able to move as quickly." the archer spoke as his fingers pushed the hair up into a tighter braid as he worked. "Granted he does have many years more experience in these things but height is nothing to be worried over in this case."
Ashley sighed then winced, "Ow!"
"Hold still." the Elf said again as he continued.
"You're giving me a headache..." she complained, rubbing her forehead with one hand.
Legolas rolled his eyes, "Why doesn't that surprise me..."
Of course this sent the woman into a fit of giggles... during which she really couldn't be still. Once that had stopped, and she had explained why it was so funny, the Elf continued working.
Time passed slowly, the prince's fingers working carefully. After a while, as she usually did when silence stretched too long, Nil started to sing softly.
Leave you lying in your bed
Black rain is in my head
As the sun fills the blue sky
There is danger on the horizon
We can't stay to see this war
So I'll move you to the shores
Where you'll be so far from home
Now we have to face our fears
It might turn our smiles to tears
But we're right on the front line
So for now we can't reunite
I keep dreaming of the past
But it just never lasts
How I wish time could go back
Even though the skies have cleared
Even now my heart's a storm
And even though my tears won't stop, it's alright like this
Because I know that if I close my eyes, I can go back to those times.
Sa-ku-ra
Is falling down
This is the way the way the way the way to guard you
To be far away away away from you
I'll do anything to take away the pain that harms you
And count every second til skies are blue
Her fingers tapped on her knee as she sang. Why she had chosen that song of all the songs in her head... well no, she knew...
Helm's Deep loomed like a shadow before her. There were so many things that could deviate... so many small moments that needed to be seen through... Where would she need to be to make sure things worked out right? Should she stay near Legolas? What about Aragorn and Gimli? No, probably best to stay near the Elf... then again...
"You are too distracted." Legolas whispered, finishing with the braid and tying it off. He moved then, standing from the bed to walk silent around it and stand in front of Nil. The Elf folded his arms over his chest, a rare stance for him, as he stared at the woman. "You know what will happen but that does not seem to be bringing you any comfort."
Sighing, Ashley looked up, "Of course it doesn't. A lot of people are going to die tomorrow, Legolas. The first battle... in thirteen days all the world will be in battle... Minas Tirith... Rohan... Lorien... Erebor... Mirkwood... I just..."
"Mirkwood?"
At this Nil kind of paled and backed up. "Legolas... I didn't..."
"What of Mirkwood?" he asked, pressing the question and invading the woman's personal space by leaning down to where he was directly in her line of sight, blond hair cascading down his shoulders.
"Well see... um... Lorien comes under assault in a few days and then we're to be off toward Gondor and Mirkwood gets attacked from Dol Guldur and your father..." she said, actually backing away... which seeing how she was sitting on the bed was a feat in itself.
Course she soon ran out of bed... and fell over the edge of it backwards. Landing with a thud, Nil groaned, but soon saw the Elf standing over her still.
"My father?"
Rolling her eyes, Ashley reached out. "At least help me up first. You freak me out when you get all serious. Damn pupils get bigger and you just..." Legolas helped her up and as the woman was brushing her clothes down she continued. "Your father repels their forces. Lorien gets attacked a couple more times.. and the Dwarves of Erebor hole up in their mountain. Really though, you don't need to worry. War..."
"War marches on my own lands..." the Elf whispered, turning away for a moment and looking toward the northeast. "And yet I..."
With a slight smile, Nil took one of Legolas' hands in her own. "Hey... don't worry about it. Your father knows what he's doing... I hope..." when the prince glared at her, the woman laughed. "I was joking, Legolas. Really. You are right where you need to be. Trust me. Have I been wrong yet?"
"No... I suppose not..." for a moment, the prince continued to look in the direction of the once might Greenwood. "I should be at my father's side... and yet I am so far from home. I..."
There was suddenly a knocking on the door. Well no, it was more like a pounding really... "Get out here and get some rest, Elf!" came Gimli's voice. "There'll be plenty of time to talk to one another on the road tomorrow!"
Hearing the Dwarf stomp off back down the hall, Legolas couldn't help but smile, "And here I would never have thought Gimli to be prudish."
"I think it has more to do with Eowyn probably demanding it with out actually demanding it of you." Nil sighed, but she shared in the Elf's smile. "Tomorrow then. Don't dwell on what I said, Legolas... your father will be fine. Really. I have a lot of respect for the Elvenking."
At this the prince glanced back. "Oh?"
"Of course. He's proud and strong and..." the woman sighed again. "And he's going to be pissed about us... isn't he?"
Legolas laughed, "Perhaps. But he will just need to learn to love you. Too bad there is nothing you could hold over his head... is there?"
For a moment, Ashley thought on this. "Well... I know about the dragon fire burns... and he is vain enough that I could... wait... he is burned, isn't he?"
The look on the archer's face said it all.
"Right. He is. I'll use that then." she replied with a huge grin.
Legolas shook his head, "I fear you sometimes, Nileregwen. Perhaps I must trust you after all... for you really do know things you should not." he teased before waving one hand and departing... or rather trying to.
Nil grabbed the Elf from behind and hugged him, "Thanks for helping with my hair."
"That reminds me..." the prince stopped, putting his hands over the woman's own as they were wrapped around his stomach from behind. "How did your hair get so long? At Amon Hen it was far shorter."
She smirked at this, "Well I was back in my world for a while. Took time to heal from that arrow wound... lots of physical therapy too so that I could properly draw my bow again."
Legolas nodded, "You picked the perfect time to return then... we shall need your bow soon I fear."
Sighing, Nil gave a quick squeezing hug to the Elf. "Don't worry. Leave the worrying to me. You just focus on saving our hides as best you can." he smiled, releasing him.
It took quite some time for Ashley to fall asleep... not only because she would rather have been with the others... but because the woman couldn't shake the feeling that something was going to go horribly wrong... and soon...
To Be Continued...

What will happen on the road to Helm's Deep?
Find out next time in chapter 8 of...
"Moira Revealed"
Author's Note:
-Song used was "Guard You" by MIYAVI.
-Yes, Nil was talking about the "Do not talk to me of dragon fire for I know it's wrath and ruin. I have faced the great serpents of the north." quote/scene involving Thranduil in "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug". Deal with it. I love it too much to not use it as blackmail to get Nil into the Elvenking's good graces.
Muse Moments:
"Can't... get... Benedict's... voice... out... of... my... head..."
Paris sighed, watching as Nil attempts to watch 'Sherlock'. "You do realize that these voices are going to be stuck with you forever, don't you?"
"I KNOW! I ALREADY HEAR THEM WHEN I READ "THE HOBBIT"!" she cried, falling over onto the bed.
Legolas smirked from the doorway, where he has been lurking for some time now. "Poor Nil... you really should watch something else..."
The woman smirked in return, "I'm planning on watching 'Pushing Daisies' tomorrow..."
At this, the Elf paled. "Please no..."
"LEE PACE IS NEEDED!"
Legolas rolled his eyes, "Ada will not approve..." the Elf replied, shrugging his shoulders and walking off. "But far be it from me to dissuade you from angering the Elvenking."
"Hah! I'm not scared of Thranduil! In fact, I..." there was complete silence in the room. "Legolas?" no response... "Paris?!" still no response...
Looking around, Nil realized she was alone. "Oh crap... ABANDON SHIP!" she jumped up and ran off out of the room as fast as possible.
"Run indeed... You know nothing of my wrath..." came the voice of Thranduil from behind the door. "Just wait... you will wish you had never started tormenting my son soon, Nileregwen. Very very soon..."
