Homecoming - Part 3
A few minutes later in the living room of the Pond/Williams household Amy is sat on the couch with her son on her lap and her daughter at her side with Rory sat in the armchair.
"So River, you've not been getting yourself into any trouble recently have you?"
"No father, I promise" answered River.
"Good"
"Melody"
"Yes mother"
"Do you happen to know anything about any of the Doctor's latest adventures?"
"I know that he encountered the Cybermen on an extraterrestrial theme park, a deadly red parasite in 1890s Yorkshire and got trapped with an Ice Warrior on a Soviet submarine in the 1980s".
"That sounds like him"
The three adults then laugh, each remembering different crazy situations that the Doctor had gotten them into. It is at that point that Anthony starts making a fuss and after trying to settle him Amy is having no luck.
"Here mother, let me try"
"No way, you were awful with babies when you were Mels, remember when Sophie Winchester got gum stuck in her hair"
"It was her fault, besides, I'm different now, I promise"
"Okay, here Anthony, do you want to go to your big sister"
Amy then hands her son over to his sister and watches the two of them with a little apprehension.
"Hello Anthony, I'm your big sister, Melody, though I go by River now"
River then bounces the baby on her knee and talks to him for a little and he settles right down.
"He love his big sister then" says Rory
"You think?"
"Yeah, definitely"
"Listen, River, I was going to make a Chicken and Veg Soup, will you stay a little while longer?"
"I'd love to"
"Okay then, Rory can you go put this little man to bed for an afternoon nap?"
"Sure, come on then Mr"
River then hands Anthony to his dad who takes him upstairs and then she follows her mother into the kitchen where they start chopping vegetables.
Half an hour later, while the soup is still cooking, River and Amy are sat at the kitchen table drinking tea.
"I am so glad you came back"
"So am I mother, so am I"
"So how is everything with you and my son in law, even now, I'm still getting used to that"
"Me and the Doctor are fine actually, he took me to see the Great Wall of China being built last week"
"Wow, that sounds cool"
"Oh it was, you can see for miles when you're stood on top of it, it's certainly a sight to behold"
"And how's work, Dr Song?"
"It's professor, remember!"
"Of course, silly me, I forgot"
"It's all right, works good, I'm actually going on a dig soon"
"Where?"
"Some Planet far, far away from here in the cluster of planets next to the Dundra System"
"I remember that, isn't Alfava Matraxis in the Dundra System, you know the one with the Weeping Angels, when we first met?"
"It is yes, oh you were so young then"
"So you've told me"
Mother and Daughter continue talking for a little while longer and 3 hours later Amy, Rory, River and Anthony are all in the garden out the back of the house.
"Must you go River" says Amy
"Yes, I have an expedition to plan for"
"Don't be a stranger"
"Of course not father, I love you both"
"And we love you too"
"And as for you little man, I promise that the next time I come, I'll bring something just for you. Well then I'd better go"
"Wait River, take this"
Amy then hands her daughter an envelope addressed to the Doctor.
"Give this to the Doctor, there's a letter in there from me and one from Rory too, tell him we miss him"
"Yeah and tell him from me that he was the best mate anyone could ask for"
"I will, goodbye"
"No, merely see you soon"
"Okay then, I'll see you soon"
River then presses a couple of buttons on her Vortex Manipulator and disappears, Amy and Rory just stare at the space where their daughter was for a minute or two before going inside to put Anthony to bed.
Meanwhile the Doctor has just picked Clara up for another adventure when there is a knock on the door.
"Umm, come in" said the Doctor, adrssing whoever was on the other side of the door.
Then in walks River, saying "Hi honey, I'm home"
"River, what are you doing here?"
She answers "I have something for you, from The Girl Who Waited and The Last Centurion".
