Chapter 4 - Insert 1

"You've seen them! How?" questions the Doctor.

"My Vortex Manipulator, it works, allows me to go see them, I assume its because its a small device and not as large as the TARDIS".

"Here, just take them Doctor, they're just letters".

"Thank you"

"I'll leave you alone for a few minutes, let you read them in peace"

River is on her way further into the TARDIS when Clara enters the main console room.

"Doc ... oh, hi Professor Song" says a stunned Clara.

"He's just got some important news, best to leave him alone for a while, come with me and you can tell me what you two have been up to recently".

River and Clara then head out of the console room, leaving the Doctor on his own. He sits on one of the steps, just staring at the envelope, after what seemed like an age, he opened it and pulled out two pieces of paper, setting one aside, he unfolded the first and it read:

Dear Raggedy Man

I have no idea whether this letter will ever reach you but I wanted to write this down. I hope you're ok, that you're well and that you've found someone to bound through space and time with, but most of all I hope you're happy.

I know that you probably miss us, and believe me when I saw that we miss you too, you were and will always be our best friend. I don't want you to be sad because we are not with you, I want you to be the way you always were, happy and full of life, I want you to still be my Raggedy Doctor.

We're happy, Rory and I, we have a lovely house in a New York suburb, it has a garden and we both have jobs, Rory's almost finished training to be a Doctor and I'm a writer, half way through a novel, I hope it does well, it's called Summer Falls. We've also adopted a little boy, he's 6 months old and we pick him from the centre in a couple of days, he's called Joseph at the minute, but we're changing his name to Anthony Brian Williams and when he's older he's going to learn all about the days his mummy and daddy travelled among the stars with their alien best friend.

Best wishes Son-in-Law

Amelia Pond (Williams)

"Oh Amelia" he said, staring at the words for a few seconds before putting aside Amy's letter and picking up Rory's.

Dear Doctor

Hi, don't know if you'll ever read this but hey-ho, here goes. You were such a big part of mine and Amy's life for such a long time, you showed us so many things, all of which we are so, so grateful for.

Anyway, just wanted to write this letter, to say that you are missed and that you are always remember, we have done and never will forget our time with you. Just the other day actually we were talking about that time when Mels turned into River and I put Hitler in the cupboard.

Hope you're ok, that you're not too sad about us, that you've met someone to travel with who pretends to listen to you ramble on.

You probably read Amy's letter first, so you'll know we've adopted a little boy and named hi after my dad, speaking of which, can you do one thing for me, can you go check on me old man, make sure he's ok and that he knows we miss him.

Goodbye for now old friend

Rory Williams (Rory the Roman)

Then the Doctor put down Rory's letter also and just sat there in silence, remembering every single moment with his two best friends, who just happened to be his mother and father in law.
