Chapter 3: Threat Approaching! Dark Signer, Ushio!

In the not-so-classy part of the City, in which Saiga's hideout is located. "What? You piece of Satellite garbage! Hah!" Ushio says. He approaches Yusei and tries to grab him by the shoulder, aggressively. He stops Ushio, calmly. "Take me there." Says Yusei, deadpan. He walks past Ushio. He turns around. "You won't be acting tough for much longer, punk!" Ushio says. Yusei has ignored him and climbed into the back of a Security car. "I'll deal with you personally!" Says Ushio, shouting through the window glass. "Hurry up." Yusei says.

Meanwhile, Security is releasing Carly and returning her personal effects. "Here you go." "Ahh! It's missing! You must be kidding me! Where's my camera? Where's my scoop? You were holding on to it for me!" Says Carly. "Camera?" He checks a hand-held holo-screen. "Ummm… There's no record of it." "That's not true! I definitely gave it to you!" Carly says. The phone in the box of belongings rings and she answers it, it projects a holographic image of her editor. "Hello?" Asks Carly. "Carly, what are you doing? I kept the front page open for you! And Angela of the Daily Duel got the scoop instead of you!" "I'm sorry." Carly says. "If you don't bring me anything good, you're fired!" The phone hologram disappears, he hung up. "Ah! Editor!" Says Carly. Two Security guys drag her to the door and push her out of it.

Carly almost falls over and then catches her box of stuff, that they toss out after her. "This is the worst! But, I'm not going to give up. I'll draw today's fortune." Carly says. She takes her deck out of a pocket in her vest. "Draw! This is Fortune Fairy Swee." Says Carly. The card is a forlorn fairy, with flowing blue hair. "By drawing this card, today's fortune is… slightly bad. I feel like giving up. No! I won't give up! On to my next report!" Carly says. She pumps one fist into the air. "That's right! Today is the sneak preview of the movie Lord of the King!" Says Carly, determinedly.

Night soon falls outside of a fancy theater somewhere in Domino. Reporters at the sides of the red carpet are gossiping. "How ironic. They're using this sneak preview to promote the documentary film about the King. However, it turns out the King is just an ordinary person." "The celebrities on the red carpet aren't that special either." "They should change the title to Lord of the Former King."

Carly is holding up her frilly, light blue, spaghetti strap dress to climb over the red ropes and get in front of the guys who've been talking. "Excuse me. Let me through." Carly says. "What's with you?" Carly has regained her camera or gotten a new one, she snaps red carpet photos, as celebs promenade past, eagerly.

"Hey! Stop pushing!" Says Angela. "Ugh, Angela." Carly says. "Oh, it's you. You're covering a party in that ugly costume? How scary. Today is a once-in-a-lifetime event. Shouldn't you wear proper attire?" Asks Angela.

Suddenly, there's a commotion. "Wow!"

There is a very famous celebrity on the red carpet now.

"That's the world's top model!" Angela says. "It's Misty!" Says Carly.

The famed supermodel, Misty Lola. She is a tall woman of elegance, with flawless, alabaster skin, thin, light blue eyes and long, sleek, knee-length, black hair, with parted bangs. Misty has a lavender, teardrop-shaped gem tied to her forehead. She is wearing a white skirt, with several layers, that give it the appearance of being a wraparound, and a red, sleeveless top. Misty is twenty-two, 5'6", 115 lbs, with a 35.4" bust, a 22.8" waist and 33.4" hips.

Carly and Angela are equally starstruck, their spat forgotten. "She's beautiful!" Carly says.

Misty glances over at her and the world falls away for a moment.

Carly gasps and looks around, she couldn't have been looking at anyone else. "Ah-h! I'm just imagining things." Carly thinks to herself.

Sometime later on, red carpet guests are mingling around the small round buffet tables.

Godwin soon descends the huge staircase at the front of the room to substantial amounts of polite applause.

The crowd stops mingling and gather near the foot of the stairs. "Director!"

Godwin's suit is the usual gray suit, perhaps a bit fancier. "Everyone, we've created a fabulous movie. What is the King? What should the King be? All the answers are in this movie!" Says Godwin.

Yusei walks into the waiting room he's been installed in to wait for his audience with him, hearing all of this.

Jack's also watching from his hospital bed, his right arm in a sling, Jace is sitting at the foot of his dad's bed, playing with his stuffed Archfiend, while Minako is arranging red and pink roses in a vase on the bedside table next to his duel disk, as the screen shows some clips, probably from the movie. "There's only one King! It's me! A King's duel must be entertaining!" Jack says, via-screen.

The audience at the red carpet preview is clapping. "Jack Atlas was born in the Tops area of Neo Domino City." Says the narrator of the movie, via-screen. "Please continue to enjoy Lord of the King. If you'll excuse me." Godwin says.

"Wait a second! This narration is incorrect! It says Jack was born in the Tops." Says Angela. "Huh?" Carly asks. "You know that Jack was born in Satellite, just like Yusei Fudo." Says Angela. "Wh-oh...!" Carly says.

Jack suddenly leans over and shoves the vase off of the table with his good left arm, angrily, and it shatters. Jace looks back at the commotion and hugs his stuffed toy close to himself, his light-ocean blue eyes a mixture of fear and sadness. Minako is aghast.

The reporters follow up, eagerly. Angela is rather pleased with herself. "What do you mean? If that's true, since you're in charge of Security, it means you gave special treatment to a Satellite citizen so that he could live in Neo Domino City!" "It means the Director broke the law!"

"I won't respond to such unreliable speculation. Now, I must take my leave." Says Godwin. He exits, ignoring the reporters' shouting cacophony.

"Wait, Director Godwin! Director!" Angela says, being heard above the general hubbub. "Is what she said about the King true?" Carly thinks to himself. "Sorry to keep you waiting. I'm the King!" Says Jack, via-screen. "I'm going to investigate." Carly thinks to herself.

As she runs out of the soiree, Misty is waiting in the doorway. "Hey, you." Misty says.

Carly turns around, sees who's addressing her and flips. "A-a-augh! M-M-Misty!" Says Carly.

"Your face really interests me. And…" Misty says.

Carly is kind of weirded out, but of course she doesn't mind. "Ah! I apologize for my face. Uh..." Says Carly.

"I like fortunetelling." Misty says. She grips Carly's chin, gently, looking closer. "Uh… Me too. I do card fortunetelling." Says Carly, trying to stay cool and is way too excited. "I look at faces." Misty says. She removes Carly's glasses, gently, to look into her eyes. "I see death. You're going to die soon." Says Misty. "Oh, uh. I see." Carly says. Misty puts her glasses back on. "But when that time comes, we'll be able to understand each other better." Says Misty. She points right at Carly, a prophetess. "Huh?! Ah, excuse me!" Carly says. She bows. "Thank you very much, but I'm in a hurry. Sorry!" Says Carly. She beats a hasty retreat from the unnerving Misty, who watches her run away, demurely.

Carly darts a glance behind herself. "What's with her?" Carly thinks to herself.

Ushio enters Yusei's waiting room.

"When is Godwin coming?" Yusei asks.

"Be patient. The director is a busy man. If you're so bored, then why don't I duel you until the director arrives? If I defeat this Satellite garbage, then I'll be the King." Says Ushio.

"Hehehehe! That would be bad." Jaeger says. He has walked up behind Ushio and his goons, hidden from Yusei by the door frame and he's winking at him. "Even though the new King won't lose to someone like you." Says Jaeger. "What?" Ushio asks. Jaeger steps into view. "Sorry to keep you waiting. The director has asked for you." Says Jaeger, addressing Yusei.

He nods, subtly.

Jaeger then turns to Ushio. "Pick up Jack from the hospital. He also wants to talk with him. And if you find Sakura with him, which we have indicated who she has most likely gone to, bring her, too. The director would like to have a word with her. Hmhmhmhmhmhmhm!" Jaeger says. Ushio salutes. "Understood." Says Ushio.

Yusei walks out the door between him and Jaeger, they share a glance out of the corners of their eyes. He follows Jaeger and Ushio watches them go. "Hmph." Ushio says. He walks down the other hall.

Outside the hospital, a female reporter is speaking to a camera. "After losing to the Satellite duelist last night, Jack Atlas was taken to this hospital. Many reporters are here to… oh!"

Carly runs through the shot, in a nurse's uniform, and runs into the reporter. "Ah! Sorry!" Says Carly.

The reporter grumbles, bitterly. "What's with that kid!" The cameraman waves at her, they're still live. The reporter puts her reporting face back on. "Ah! I'm sorry! Last night, the Satellite duelist…"

Carly just made it through the door in her nurse's costume. "It worked." Carly thinks to herself. She proceeds into the hospital.

Ushio pulls up on his D-Wheel outside, as soon as Carly goes inside. He takes off his helmet. "You must be kidding me! Treating me like a servant!" Ushio thinks to himself, angrily. He walks up the steps and into the hospital. As Ushio walks down the hallway, a glowing purple spider drops onto his collar from above. He feels it, immediately. "Ah!" It crawls down Ushio's collar. The nurses standing around in the hallway look at him, with concern, as he dances around, frantically, as though trying to get to an ice cube someone dropped down his back. Then, Ushio stops. The spider mark glows on his arm and his facial expression turns menacing.

Still at the Domino Hospital, Minako is peeling an apple with a knife and humming to herself at Jack's bedside. The TV is off. Jack's sitting up in bed, frowning. Jace is curled up with his stuffed Archfiend, snuggled up next to his dad, asleep. "Leave me alone. And you can leave Jace with me." Jack says, very seriously. Minako sets aside her apple, bows and turns to leave, forlornly.

As soon as she leaves, Jack reaches for his duel disk, hanging on the wall above the bedside table. Like with the vase earlier, he must reach across with his good hand because the bedside table is on the right.

Outside in the hallway, Carly is walking the hall alone, looking for the right room. "Jack's hospital room is…" Says Carly.

She rounds a corner, just as Jack is letting himself out of his room. His characteristic white blazer is on his shoulders, but the right sleeve hangs limp. "Jack!" Carly says. The legend turns, holding Jace in one arm as he sleeps, still not noticing her presence, it is indeed the one and only. Jack walks right past Carly, ignoring her. "Um, uh, ah, oh…" Says Carly.

Jack rounds the corner, on which she's standing and sees Ushio walking down the hallway. "If I remember correctly, he's from Security." Jack says, sounding frustrated. Then, he notices the spider sign glowing on Ushio's arm. Jack gasps aloud.

Flashback. The Signers ride on a glowing road over a vision of destruction below. A giant, fiery spider has been etched onto the landscape of the Satellite, demolishing everything it touches. The flashback ends.

Back to the present. "Heheheheheheheheh!" Ushio laughs.

"What's going on? Why do you have that mark?" Asks Jack. Jace wakes up, with a huge yawn, and rubs at his eyes, sleepily.

Then out of no where, lurking in the shadows. "He isn't himself."

Jack looks near where the voice came from. Jack can't see much since the shadows have her covered, but she's not alone, either. "Who are you? Step into the light so I can see you better." Jack says. Carly is cowering behind him, she gasps. "Ah!" Says Carly.

She comes into the light, but she has a long, black cloak on, with red lining and a hood attached. The hood is over her head, so it manages to shadow the upper half of her face, her eyes are the only thing that can be made out. Her cloak is almost long to the floor, but since she wears healed boots it makes it hard to tell. The shadow creature stays back in the shadows behind her, its eyes lit in red.

Flashback. Carly watches the duel through the lens of her camera as it records, as the drone from the previous night sends his Frozen Fitzgerald to attack Yusei. "Attack Sonic Chick! Blizzard Strike!" It destroys Sonic Chick.

Yusei takes damage and is thrown backward, bouncing on his shoulder blades, painfully, flipping over and slamming into the fiery wall of the arena. The flashback ends.

Back to the present. "He has the same glow on his arm!" Carly thinks to herself.

Ushio activates his duel disk.

"You're also a Signer?" Jack asks.

"I'm a Dark Signer. After five thousand years, I've come for you from the underworld. I will take the light." Says Ushio.

"Dark Signer?" Jack asks. "You can't duel him, Jack! Yusei battled against a duelist who had the same mark." Says Carly. "What, Yusei? How did he do?" Jack asks. "He won." Says Carly. "You!" Jack says. "Yes?" Asks Carly. "I don't know who you are, but do you know how to duel?" Jack asks. "I can, but…" Says Carly. "In that case…" Jack says. He sets Jace down. "Jace, go over to her. You'll be safe with her." Says Jack. Jace hugs his stuffed Red Dragon Archifend close to himself and runs over to the woman hidden in the shadows. As soon as he's out of the danger zone, Jack grabs the duel disk from the top of the bag he packed, drops the bag, hands the duel disk to Carly and spins her around. She is kinda freaked. "You'll be my hands. Hold the cards for me and draw!" Jack says. "Huh? But… " Says Carly. "If Yusei won, then this won't be a problem. I'll annihilate him in this duel and ask him why he's doing this! Let's start. Put on the duel disk!" Jack says. "Okay." Says Carly. She slides Jack's duel disk onto his left arm. His right arm is still in its sling against his chest. "Here I go!" Jack says.

"Duel!" Says Ushio, Jack and Carly, shouting.

"I said that out loud!" Carly thinks to herself.

A ring of purple fire springs up around them.

On other stories of the hospital, bystanders are swamped with a strong gust of wind, inexplicably.

Jack's sign is glowing through his sling. "You're glowing too!" Carly says.

The woman hidden in the shadows arm is glowing through her glove. The rest of her symbolic designs and additional markings etched along her body are also glowing, but she hides them all away under her cloak. Jace is standing right up next to her, clinging to her leg and cloak.

"What's this?" Asks Jack. "The same thing happened during the duel between Yusei Fudo and the man with the spider mark." Carly says.

"It's my turn." Says Ushio.

The duelists begin with 4000 life points each.

"I summon Warm Worm in defense position!" Ushio says.

Warm Worm has 1400 defense points and is a Level 3 monster.

"I know I can succeed!" Carly thinks to herself. Every fan girl's dream, she daydreams Jack cradling her in his arms. "There's no bigger scoop than dueling alongside Jack!" Carly thinks to herself.

She draws. "It's my tur…" Says Carly. "It's my turn!" Jack says. "I apologize." Says Carly. "From my hand, I Special Summon Vice Dragon!" Jack says. Carly looks through the hand she's holding for the card, frantically, then places it on the duel disk. "Right." Says Carly.

Vice Dragon has 2000 attack points and is a Level 5 monster. "When you have a monster on your field but none on mine, I can Special Summon it from my hand by halving its attack and defense points." Jack says. Vice Dragon's attack points are reduced to 1000. "Then, I release Vice Dragon to Advance Summon Strong Wind Dragon!" Says Jack.

Strong Wind Dragon has 2400 attack points and is a Level 6 monster. "Then, Strong Wind Dragon's monster effect activates! It gains the attack points of one released Dragon-Type monster!" Jack says. Carly counts on her fingers. "Since Vice Dragon has two thousand attack points…" Says Carly. "It gains one thousand points!" Jack says. "Uh, ah… thirty-four hundred?" Asks Carly. "Strong Wind Dragon attacks Warm Worm! Strong Hurricane!" Jack asks.

It hits and destroys, then the attack smashes into the floor behind Ushio and he shields his face from the dust.

"What's happening?" Asks Jack. "Like I said, this isn't a normal duel! I don't really understand, but it seems to be a real life-and-death duel." Carly says. "That was an actual explosion." Says Jack.

Ushio's life points are now 2000.

"Why did he lose life points when Warm Worm was in defense position?" Carly asks. "Strong Wind Dragon's attack deals piercing damage. If its attack points are greater than the opponent monster's defense points, then the opponent loses life points equal to the difference." Says Jack. "Incredible! No wonder this is the former King's deck!" Carly says. "Former King?" Asks Jack. "I mean, umm… " Carly says.

"Hmhmhmhmhmhm! When Warm Worm is destroyed in battle, you send three cards in your deck to your graveyard." Says Ushio.

"So, I have to send three cards." Carly says. Jack keeps glaring at their opponent. "His plan is…" Jack thinks to himself.

Ushio glares back, snickering, maliciously.

When Carly holds their hand up for Jack to look at, he indicates a card with a slight nod. "I set one card and end my turn." Says Jack. "Uh, right." Carly says. She places it down.

"My turn." Says Ushio. He draws. "From my hand, I summon Shield Worm in defense position!" Ushio says.

Shield Worm has 2000 defense points and is a Level 4 monster. "When this monster is successfully summoned, you send one card in your deck to the graveyard." Says Ushio.

"Ah… Again?" Carly asks. She sends another card to the graveyard, Dark Tinker.

"Hmhm! I place one card face down and end my turn." Says Ushio.

Carly draws. "My tur… uh, I mean…" Carly says. "It's my turn!" Says Jack. He glances at the cards Carly's holding in her hand. "In order to activate this spell card, I have to release Strong Wind Dragon." Jack says. "Then, it's obvious what you're going to do! Strong Wind Dragon attacks Shield Worm!" Says Carly. "You idiot!" Jack says, alarmed. "Uh… I was wrong?" Asks Carly.

Too late to call off the wild attack. Strong Wind Dragon destroys Shield Worm.

"Ha ha ha ha! Due to Shield Worm's monster effect, battle damage from your attack becomes zero." Ushio says.

"A-a-ah…" Says Carly.

"Strong Wind Dragon's piercing damage is negated! Then I reveal my trap card! 'Regretful Rebirth.' When a monster on my field is destroyed in battle, I can Special Summon that monster in defense position." Ushio says.

Shield Worm has 2000 defense points and is a Level 4 monster. "Since I Special Summoned Shield Worm, to send another card in your deck to the graveyard." Says Ushio.

"I'm sorry for acting on my own." Carly says. "Like I thought, his plan is…" Jack thinks to himself.

"Heheheheheheheh…"

Trap Eater is the next card Jack and Carly discard. "I Summon Twin-Shield Defender in defense position and end my turn." Says Jack. "Uh, uh, right." Carly says.

Twin-Shield Defender has 1600 defense points and is a Level 4 monster.

"It's my turn. From my hand, I activate the spell card 'Worm Bait'! When there's a monster on my field with 'Worm' in its name, I can Special Summon two Worm Tokens." Says Ushio.

Both Worm Tokens have 0 attack points and are Level 1 monsters. "I release the two Worm Tokens to Advance Summon Dark Tuner Chaos Rogue!" Ushio says.

Chaos Rogue has 0 attack points and is a Level 8 monster.

"Dark Tuner?" Asks Jack. "This is bad! It's the same as before!" Carly says. "What do you mean?" Asks Jack. "It's…" Carly says.

"Level Eight Dark Tuner Chaos Rogue dark tunes Level Four Shield Worm!" Says Ushio. "Dark tuning?" Jack asks.

Chaos Rogue's eight stars swirl into the air and plunge down into Shield Worm, swarming around within its outlines, merging into one another and turning into four darkly glimmering stars, orbiting around each other in a dance of crackling black energy. "When shadow stacks on shadows, the door to the realm of the dead opens. A world without light! Dark Synchro! Come, Dark Diviner!" Says Ushio.

Dark Diviner has 2000 attack points and is a Level -4 monster.

"What? A Level Negative Four monster!" Jack says.

"That's right. Light has turned into shadows! Dark Synchro allows me to summon a Synchro Monster whose Level is equal to the Level of the one non-Tuner Monster subtracted by the Level of a Dark Tuner." Says Ushio.

"That's right. Yusei Fudo's opponent also did this unusual Synchro Summon." Carly says. "What?" Asks Jack.

"First, Dark Tuner Chaos Rogue's monster effect activates from the graveyard. When this card was used to Dark Synchro, five cards from your deck are sent to the graveyard." Ushio says.

"Uh… you're taking too much!" Says Carly. She fusses with the duel disk, throwing away the cards.

"Then my Dark Diviner attacks Strong Wind Dragon!" Ushio says.

Carly turns back to the duel. "I don't understand. Strong Wind Dragon has higher attack points." Says Carly. "He has a different goal!" Jack says.

"When Dark Diviner attacks, your monster's attack points become the same as Dark Diviner's. For every one hundred points of change to its attack points, one card in your deck is sent to the graveyard." Says Ushio.

"Deck destruction." Jack says, deadpan. "Um, that means fourteen cards are sent to the graveyard! How many cards are left?" Asks Carly. "Nine cards." Jack says. "Eh, nine?" Asks Carly.

"My goal is to take away your deck and your light. And once you're out of the way…" Ushio says. He glances over at the woman in the shadows.

She returns the glance.

"You'll be mine for the taking. Hmhmhmhm!" Says Ushio. He then turns his focus back to the duel. "Dark Dragdown!" Ushio says.

"It's mutual destruction!" Says Jack. Carly yells and throws herself in front of him, shielding him from the blast of wind. "You!" Jack says. "I'm fine. Agh!" Says Carly.

"Brave girl this one." The woman in the shadows thinks to herself.

Carly almost falls over backward, Jack reaches out and catches her. "Hey!" Jack says. He catches her and then turns to Ushio. "No matter how many times you attack, Strong Wind Dragon can't be destroyed in battle by a monster that has the same number of attack points!" Says Jack.

"Dark Diviner can't be destroyed in battle, either." Ushio says.

Jack and Carly's life points decrease to 3400. "I'm sorry. This is all because I acted out on my own." Says Carly, sobbing. "I need at least this much entertainment to have fun." Jack says. "Huh?" Asks Carly. "What's your name?" Jack asks. "Ah! It's Carly" "Let's go, Carly. This is the last draw!" Says Jack. "A-a…" Carly says. "It's my and…" Says Jack. "And my…" Carly says. "Turn!" Says both Jack and Carly. She draws, they are now really functioning as a team. "From my hand, I activate the spell card 'Mind Trust'! By releasing one monster on my field, I can add a Tuner Monster in my graveyard with half its Level back to my hand. I release Level Six Strong Wind Dragon! From my graveyard, I add the Level Three Tuner Dark Resonator to my hand. I summon Dark Resonator!" Jack says.

Dark Resonator has 1300 attack points. "Then, Dark Resonator tunes Twin-Shield Defender! The King's roar reverberates! The iron hammer of victory will destroy the land! Synchro Summon! Soar, Exploder Dragonwing!" Says Jack.

Exploder Dragonwing has 2400 attack points and is a Level 7 monster. "When this monster battles against a monster with fewer attack points, your monster is destroyed without damage calculation. Then you take damage equal to your monster's attack points!" Jack says. "Incredible! Back when you planned to activate 'Trust Mind', you already knew he was using a deck destruction strategy. No wonder you're the King." Says Carly. "Exploder Dragonwing, attack Dark Diviner! King Storm!" Jack says.

With that attack, the roof of the hospital explodes, hailing debris down on the sizable number of reporters gathered below. The purple fiery ring disappears. The hallway is dark and the floor beneath their feet is shattered.

Ushio slumps over and falls to the ground on his face. His life points go to 0.

Jack and Carly stand looking at him for a moment. She looks at him, nervously, who's staring at the purple spider mark on Ushio's arm, as it vanishes, intently.

A spider falls off of his neck and vanishes in a little puff of smoke. "Where am I?" Asks Ushio, dazed.

"It's the same as before. It looks like someone was controlling him." Carly says.

"That's true, there was." Says the woman with the cloak and hood on, as she walks over to them stopping when she reaches them, Jace keeping pace beside her, still clinging to her leg and cloak. The shadow creature follows after her and comes to a halt at her side.

"Sakura, is that you?" Jack asks. "Yes." Says Sakura. Suddenly, Jack sways on his feet and nearly faints. Carly catches him on one side, Sakura catches him on the other, one of her hands touching his chest. "Jack!" Carly says. "Take me outside." Says Jack, whispering, hoarsely. Carly gasps, that's quite a request. "Carly, right?" Sakura asks. "Huh, yes." Says Carly. "Do you think you can get him out of here on your own and then meet me outside?" Sakura asks. "Sure, I can do that. But, where are you going?" Asks Carly. Sakura releases her hold on Jack, leaving her to keep him standing. She picks up Jace and holds him in her arms. "Don't worry, just trust me and meet me outside." Sakura says. She then turns away, heads into the shadows, taking Jace with her and Grim following after her, and suddenly vanishes within the shadows.

In a flash, Carly is wheeling Jack on a gurney, covered with a sheet, at a mad dash, through the crowds in the lower levels of the hospital and amazingly no one is stopping her.

Outside, the reporter from earlier is speaking into a mic, as her camera guy keeps the camera trained on the hospital. "At Jack Atlas's hospital, there was a flash of light and an explosion."

Carly runs through the aisle at the center of the crowd and no reporters question her, amazingly, and then slows to a jog, as it hits her... "What should I do? What's going to happen now?" Carly thinks to herself.

She soon finds Sakura, with Jace, who has fallen asleep in her arms, curled up with his stuffed toy, and Grim, who no longer appears as a shadow version of himself, standing beside her, and stops wheeling the gurney before she almost runs into her. "Okay, so what's your plan now?" Asks Carly. Sakura lies Jace on Grim's back. She then helps Carly get Jack off of the gurney and then helps her hold him up. "Carly, I shall say this once…" Sakura says. She grabs her cloak. "Brace yourself." Says Sakura. She then throws her cloak over them and in a second to spare, all four, and Grim, vanish just like that.

The underside of a highway bridge, then up. The only light is from the headlights of the car, as Godwin steps out of it. "Yusei. I'll tell you the truth." Godwin says.

Jaeger and Yusei are already standing there. The scene has kind of a ransom-exchange or mafia-meeting feel to it, Yusei and Godwin meeting late at night at some undisclosed location. "The truth?" Asks Yusei.

Godwin points, dramatically, backlit by the headlights.

Yusei turns to look and gasps.

Behind him and Jaeger, the bridge they're standing on cuts off abruptly and in the distance there are tall X's of iron, supports for a different bridge coming from the even more distant island beyond, the way across is cleanly severed.

Yusei keeps looking out toward the distant supports, the car headlights shine toward that daunting stretch of night-dark sea.
