Chapter 7: Fire Of Revenge! Former Friend, Kyosuke Kiryu!

"What's this?" Yusei asks. He stands astride his D-Wheel, surrounded on two sides by walls of purple flames.

Several feet away, Kiryu faces Yusei on his own D-Wheel. "Yusei, I'll send you into the depths of hell! Eyehehehehehehehehe!" Says Kiryu.

"Kiryu…" Yusei says.

"Just so you know, this mark is real!" Says Kiryu. He shows Yusei his right arm, glowing so brightly that the purple-glowing mark on it can barely be seen, it's not a spider. "It's not the fakes you saw before." Kiryu says.

Flashback to the man with the glowing spider on his arm who stood outside in the alleyway a few nights back, a small, glowing purple spider crawled away from him after the duel and vanished. His deck smoldered with the same purple fire. The flashback ends.

Back to the present. "He's a Dark Signer that Godwin was talking about." Yusei thinks to himself.

Flashback to when Godwin and Yusei spoke on the unfinished bridge, back in the City. "They are the enemies of the Signers. After five thousand years, their evil souls have resurrected. Ever since the creation of the world, Signers and Dark Signers have battled every five thousand years." Says Godwin. The flashback ends.

Back to the present. Yusei's staring at Kiryu. "Is this the ancient battle that took place five thousand years ago?" Yusei thinks to himself.

Crow rides forward and brakes sideways. "Yusei! What's going on?" Crow asks. He turns and rides to the top of a pile of trash, shooting up into the air at the edge, landing and zooming to the edge overlooking the duel. Crow can now see the picture formed by the huge outline. "Huh? Hah! What is this?" Asks Crow.

Meanwhile. Rally, Nerve, Taka and Blitz are running down the street in the Satellite somewhere. Rally points to the sign reflected against the clouds. "Huh? What's that?" Rally asks, pointing towards it. "What's happening?" Asks Blitz.

Across the sea on a posh waterfront somewhere in Neo Domino City, date night is interrupted as everyone stares, shocked, at the distant light and the mark reflected on the clouds. "What's that light?"

Godwin, too, can see the sign, on a TV monitor. "It has begun." Godwin thinks to himself.

Meanwhile, Jack's helicopter soars toward the glowing area. He's standing in the doorway, hair and jacket whipping all over the place. "What is that? Huh! Can it be?" Jack thinks to himself. The helicopter, now almost directly over the glowing sign, is nosing upward. "Does this have something to do with the news report about the vanishing Nazca Lines?" Carly asks.

Flashback. The news report showed footage of the mark of the spider vanishing from the earth, as though glowing water seeping into the ground. The flashback ends.

Back to the present. "Lower the helicopter!" Says Jack. "Uh, okay!" They swoop in closer and as they do, fly over Crow and his D-Wheel.

"Jack?" Crow thinks to himself.

"Crow?" Jack thinks to himself. He's looking back, in bewilderment, then goes back to looking forward, in bewilderment, as they approach the duel. He turns his head back inside. "Get closer!" Jack says.

"If we get any closer, we might crash!" "Master Atlas, it's too dangerous!" Says Minako.

"Jack, uh, what's wrong with you?" Carly asks. "Do as I say!" Says Jack. "Jack, please stop." Sakura says, grabbing a hold of his arm.

The pilot caves and dips down, the helicopter begins to shake, violently. Minako closes her eyes, terrified.

Carly is thrown forward and grabs the back of the pilot seat in front of herself to stay steady.

Grim's standing between Sakura and Jack, he's keeping his balance extraordinarily well. Jace, who was startled awake by the commotion, clings onto his dad's leg, holding onto it as tightly as he possibly can. Sakura is still holding onto Jack's arm, a little bit more tightly than before, steadying herself. The Security helicopter is swooping down toward the ground, all but out of control. At the last moment, the helicopter steadies, they're now hovering about ten feet above Yusei and Kiryu. "That's Jack." Says Yusei.

Kiryu looks up and smiles.

Jack can't believe his eyes. "Ugh! That's Kiryu!" Jack says.

"We're past the breaking point! I'm heading back up!"

Jack keeps staring down at them, as the helicopter retreats upward.

"Hahahahahahahahaha! This makes me laugh! Jack Atlas and Crow!" Says Kiryu.

"Huh?" Crow asks.

"And Yusei." Says Kiryu.

Showdown.

"Kiryu." Yusei says.

"This is hilarious. I can't believe the four of us are all together. Did the underworld cause this? Hehehehehehehehehehehehehe! I will never forgive you. This fire is the flames of my revenge!" Says Kiryu.

Yusei's somewhat alarmed. "Kiryu, back then…" Yusei says.

"I'll never forget that you betrayed me and pushed me towards death." Says Kiryu.

Jack and Crow are thunderstruck.

"Kiryu…" Yusei says, resolute, but his voice betrays regret.

Up in the helicopter. "He said that he used to be your friend. What does he mean?" Asks Carly. "For Yusei, Crow and myself, Kiryu was a close friend." Jack says. "What?" Asks Carly.

Minako gasps.

Sakura isn't really affected by this at all, since she never liked Kiryu, especially after what he did to her. Grim's growling, deeply, he seems to remember him, too.

Flashback. A huge gust of wind rampages through the room and then Crow, only marked with the M on his forehead back then, falls to his knees, his life points sinking to 0. He just lost a duel. Crow's wearing a brown vest, much like the one he wears now, but slightly different, with white lining visible at the edges. He's fourteen at this time.

Cornering Crow against a wall of this abandoned warehouse are three toughs, in matching indigo capes, with pentagram brooches. The biggest one is squat, wide and fat, with teal hair, a red shirt and Satellite special cheek dye down his right cheek. The second is tall and muscular, has a goatee and long brown hair, a slate-blue shirt, a tattoo on his left shoulder and some tracking dye in a slit across his right eye. The third is more smallish, with brown hair, a Satellite cheek marker similar to his buddy's and an orange shirt. "Heheheheheh. Even though your nickname is Crow the Bullet, you're not that special. Heheheh!" He kicks Crow. He looks up at him, one eye closed, shaking all over. "You punk!" Crow says. "We're the dueling gang, Magicians Four. I admire your courage for coming here alone, even though you knew this was our turf." "But you're nothing more than a bullet that misfired!" He kicks Crow and his duel disk goes flying across the concrete, broken open. The three Magicians laugh. Crow grasps his left arm. "Ough! My duel disk!" Says Crow.

A fourth guy shows up, staying unnoticed in the shadows. He chuckles, evilly.

One of the others turn, noticing his presence.

The newcomer nods at him and his grin widens.

Crow's starting to get scared. "Crow the Bullet has already pulled the trigger!" Crow starts to grin, he was just faking it. "Heheh. After hearing the sound of my machine gun, my friends will be arriving soon!" Crow says. One of them grabs him by the shirt, lifts him up and slams him against the wall, face-to-face. "Too bad, but we just started using this hideout. No one knows where we are!" Crow opens an eye and grins. "Oh really?" Asks Crow. "Huh?"

They start to hear beeping. One of them looks over at Crow's smashed duel disk, inside which a red light is flickering and beeping, urgently. The life point counter is completely torn off by the fall, revealing a little piece of machinery with a blinking red light that is probably not found inside any average duel disk.

"Heh? That duel disk is a transmitter?" Crow's pretty smug and the Magicians Four are getting scared, despite the fact that one of them is still holding him up by the front of his shirt. "Hahahahaha. Interesting, isn't it?" Crow asks. "It's not interesting, you idiot!" "That means they're coming!" "Team Satisfaction is coming…" "Heheheheheheheh." Crow laughs.

Suddenly, the wall to their left, Crow's right, explodes, pelting them with debris.

Two of them run for cover.

The one lets go of Crow and runs after them.

The fourth guy looks dismayed and affronted at the intrusion.

In the midst of the clearing dust, three menacing silhouettes can be seen in the doorway they just blew through the wall.

The fourth guy's eyes bug.

The three members of Team Satisfaction leap into action, quicker than the eye can see, they're out of the doorway and into the warehouse in three different directions.

One of the Magicians Four runs over and yanks down a lever. The fluorescence on the ceiling shut off, leaving everyone in darkness.

He's then making his retreat when he's headed off by a swift shadow, who dashes over the crates above, cloak streaming behind him and jumps down in front of him. He can only see his duel disk, the rest of him remains in shadow. "Aa-aah!"

"Accept my duel!" He activates his duel disk.

"Rrrrrgh…"

"Hm!" He pulls out a chain, swings it in his right hand, expertly, and lets it fly, it attaches to his duel disk, the one in shadow hooks it into his own. It now connects the two duelists at their duel disks and he can't escape. "The loser's duel disk is destroyed. We can't stop playing until there's a winner." "You punk!"

Outside the window, clouds pull back to reveal the moon. In its light, Yusei's face comes into view.

Elsewhere in the warehouse, another shadow, this one very tall, flings a folded duel disk through the air. "Crow!"

Crow catches it. "Hahaha!"

One of them is cowering somewhere behind him, as he pops his duel disk into place on his arm, he runs for cover. He stops short when a metal cuff fastens around his duel disk just like the other one.

He looks back to see Crow is at the other end of his chain, fastening it to his own duel disk and activating it. "It's time to duel." Says Crow, cheekily. He activates his duel disk.

The one with the tattoo is running for the back of the warehouse. "Ugh!"

Jack steps into the moonlight, under his menacing black cloak, he's wearing a vest, like Crow's, over his usual black shirt. He's sixteen at this time. Jack's powerful presence has stopped him in his tracks. "You took care of my friend. He has bad manners, so it must've been difficult. Don't worry." Jack says, in deadpan sarcasm. He pulls a chain out of his pocket, twirling it. "I'll thank you plenty!" Says Jack.

The chain attaches to his duel disk, it pulls him off of his feet and sends him flying towards him.

Yusei, ever somber, has thrown off his cloak, revealing that he, too, wears a sleeveless brown blazer, with fluffy lining visible at the shoulders. He's fifteen at this time.

Crow's grinning.

And Jack's superior.

"Duel!" Yusei, Jack and Crow all say.

"My turn! I summon Speed Warrior!" Says Yusei.

Speed Warrior has 900 attack points and is a Level 2 monster.

"My turn! I summon Blackwing-Bora the Spear!" Crow says.

Bora the Spear has 1700 attack points and is a Level 4 monster.

"My turn. I summon Mad Archfiend!" Says Jack.

Mad Archfiend has 1800 attack points and is a Level 4 monster.

These are the golden days for these three friends.

The fourth guy, until now unnoticed, stands suddenly and his chair falls over. He's already starting to sweat, this is not good.

But it's about to get worse as a fourth shadow approaches him. "Hey, magician."

"Huh?"

"I'm your opponent."

"You're…"

Kiryu steps into the moonlight, he's normal, chartreuse eyes glittering, with excitement. He wears a purple bandanna around his light blue hair and bears no tracking dye. Kiryu's the same age as Jack, sixteen at this time. "I'm Kyosuke Kiryu, leader of Team Satisfaction. Entertain me." Kiryu has thrown away his cloak, revealing a brown vest like Yusei's, Jack's and Crow's. Under the vest, he wears a red, short-sleeved shirt, notably with a V-shaped cutout just below his collarbone. Below this, Kiryu wears a black leather belt, dark blue jeans and black boots. He also wears black, fingerless gloves, with a metal band adorned with spikes.

The leader of Magicians Four stands braced and ready.

Kiryu 'lassos' his opponent, swiftly, and activates his duel disk, the chain is already connected on his end. "Let's duel!" Kiryu says.

The guy's eyes bug out, with fear and anger. "I'm looking forward to it!" He activates his duel disk.

Kiryu isn't scared.

"Duel!" Says both Kiryu and his opponent.

Yusei's in the process of finishing off his Magician Four already. "Junk Warrior attacks you directly!" Yusei says.

Electricity crackles through the air. Yusei's opponent is still wincing, horribly, as his life points sink to 0.

"Blackwing Armor Master attacks!" Says Crow.

"Yeee-ee-ee!" Crow's opponent's life points also drop to 0.

"Exploder Dragonwing attacks you directly!" Jack says.

And, his opponent loses, too.

Their opponents look at their violently sparking duel disks, in surprise and shock, one after the other, they emit a small explosion and are still.

"Rrrgh, Dark Eradicator Warlock attacks!"

Kiryu has the monster Archfiend General on the field and is activating his only face down. "The trap card 'Hate Buster'!" Says Kiryu. His monster leaps into the air and fires a crescent of light at Warlock, which is neatly destroyed.

The guy is flung backward to the ground and his life points sink to 0. His duel disk also sparks and explodes.

Kiryu turns and his friends are joining him from their different corners of the warehouse. They raise their fists, four-way fist-bump. "We did it." Kiryu says. He opens a map on a flat surface and marks in an area with a marker. "All right! We've conquered District D." Says Kiryu. He smiles, serenely, these are the golden days, fighting alongside his friends. The flashback ends.

Fade back to Kiryu of the present, as he laughs.

Yusei's not so amused. "Kiryu…" Yusei says.

"It was fun back then, wasn't it Yusei? Wasn't it, Crow? Jack?" Asks Kiryu.

Crow and Jack are stunned.

In the helicopter. "Jack, what happened between you guys?" Carly asks.

Flashback of a partially-destroyed house on a hilltop, overlooking the sea. It's an idyllic scene from an afternoon in the Satellite during the Team Satisfaction days. "Yusei, Crow and I were friends since we were little." Says Jack, in voice-over. Jack's in his brown vest, staring out at the City across the ocean through a destroyed wall. He then turns back inside and looks around.

Yusei's sitting at a table nearby, bent over a cracked-open duel disk with a tool that might be connected to the laptop on the table. He taps a button on the tool with a fingertip a few times, causing sparks to pulse from it into the duel disk with a faint crackling noise, then looks at the laptop screen.

Jack turns back to stare out at the sea again. "That's when Kiryu arrived. Though we were trapped in Satellite, he gave us a tiny ray of hope." Jack says, in voice-over.

On the floor nearby, Crow's playing regular cards with a bunch of younger kids, he laughs and shows them a winning strait, triumphantly.

At the sound of footsteps on the stairs, Yusei looks up from his duel disk, Crow looks up from his cards and Jack turns around. All three look wary. "Huh?" Asks Crow.

He, Yusei and Jack walk over and gather around Kiryu, somber and serious. "Team Golem will be at District B tonight. We'll invade and crush them instantly." Kiryu says.

As he speaks, gatherings of a couple rival Satellite gangs. The first group is four guys in cozy brown jackets, with fleecy hoods and sleeves, all of them bear some pretty exciting tracking dye. "Back then, there were many dueling gangs. Each one ruled a different district." Says Jack, in voice-over.

The second group is identified probably by the red bandannas that two wear tied around forearms and a third wears on his head. All four of these guys are also marked.

Kiryu slams down the map from earlier on a flat surface in their hideout. "We're going to color this black!" Kiryu says. Yusei nods. "Hm." Says Yusei. Crow nods. "Yeah!" Crow says. Jack nods. "Hm." Says Jack. "No matter what we do, we can't escape from Satellite. That means we have to be satisfied with staying here. Let's do incredible things in Satellite so that we're satisfied!" Kiryu says. Even Yusei's smiling, so are Crow and Jack. "If we never met Kiryu, being stuck in Satellite would have overwhelmed us. We would've become garbage. He was our savior." Says Jack, in voice-over. "Team Satisfaction! Let's go!" Kiryu says. Four-way fist-bump.

Four cloaked shadows appear out of nowhere on a ledge, against a backdrop of foggy buildings. Kiryu shrugs his cloak back to free his arms, as he puts on a duel disk. Crow chuckles, menacing in half-shadow on his right and follows suit. Yusei, in half-shadow on Kiryu's left puts on his duel disk. Jack's the fourth and final. All four activate their duel disks and draw five cards, simultaneously, looming overhead in the darkness. "Duel!" Says Kiryu, Yusei, Crow and Jack. They leap down one by one, Yusei then Jack on either end, then Crow and Kiryu in the center. The flashback ends.

Back to the present. Jack's gazing down at the scene, nostalgically sad.

Crow's grim.

Kiryu and Yusei are still facing each other across a broad expanse of land.

"This fire represents my anger! It won't vanish until there's a winner!" Kiryu says.

"Kiryu!" Says Yusei.

"Let's start the battle between a Signer and a Dark Signer. This life-or-death battle is between former friends!" Kiryu says. He revs up his D-Wheel and crossbacks.

Yusei doesn't move.

Kiryu comes to a stop a ways behind him and turns about. "Here I go, Yusei! Hmph!" Says Kiryu. He revs up again and races toward Yusei, who still doesn't move.

"Kiryu, why are you a Dark Signer?" Yusei asks.

"Hehehehehehehehahahehah!"

"Kiryu…" Says Yusei. He closes his eyes for a moment, face unreadable beneath his visor, then opens them. Yusei toggles the right-hand gas and zooms after Kiryu.

"Field Spell 'Speed World' set on!" Kiryu says.

"Duel mode on. Autopilot standby." Says the computer. Purple spreads from the two D-Wheels, things don't look very different with all the purple fire already present.

'Speed World' pops up on Yusei's screen, he looks slightly surprised, perhaps because usually it doesn't take that long. The screen switches to duel mode, he looks up from it. "You're serious, Kiryu." Yusei says.

"Hahahahahahahahahehehehehehehehehahaha! The field is under the control of 'Speed World'. The only spells that can be activated are Speed Spells! Let's enjoy this Riding Duel!" Says Kiryu.

"The blows in this duel will be real. We may actually lose our lives!" Yusei says.

"That's right. Yusei, I'll pummel you until you can't take it anymore!" Says Kiryu.

Yusei's pulling even with him, they now ride side-by-side. "Duel!" Both Kiryu and Yusei say. They take off, riding faster.

Up in the helicopter. "Put Yusei and Kiryu's duel on the monitor!" Says Jack.

"Yes, Master Atlas." Minako says. The TV screen in the cab of the helicopter now shows Yusei and Kiryu's life points and speed counters, just like in the Duel Stadium. The holographic screen also shows a live video feed of the duel.

Down below. Crow presses a button near his D-Wheel console, tentatively, it clicks on and displays not only life points and speed counters, but also a field grid for each duelist. "Yusei… Kiryu…" Says Crow.

"Kiryu." Yusei says.

"Let's begin. Team Satisfaction is back! Ahuhuhahahahahahahah! My turn! I summon Infernity Beast!" Says Kiryu.

Infernity Beast has 1600 attack points and is a Level 3 monster.

"I set one card and end my turn. Now bring it! I'm counting on a tough battle to stoke my flames of revenge!" Kiryu says.

"I have no choice." Yusei thinks to himself. "My turn! I summon Speed Warrior in attack position!" Says Yusei.

Speed Warrior has 900 attack points and is a Level 2 monster.

"During the Battle Phase of this turn, Speed Warrior's attack points are doubled!" Yusei says.

Speed Warrior's attack point total is now 1800.

"Speed Warrior attacks Infernity Beast! Sonic Edge!" Says Yusei.

"I open my trap card! 'Depth Amulet'! I discard one card from my hand to negate your monster's attack! Hahahahahahaha! You never change your deck, so I know exactly what you'll do!" Kiryu says.

"You're saying that you've changed?" Asks Yusei.

"Huheheheheheh! Thanks to you!" Kiryu says.

"Hmph! I set two cards and end my turn." Says Yusei.

"My turn!" Kiryu says. He draws. "I summon Infernity Archfiend from my hand!" Says Kiryu.

Infernity Archfiend has 1800 attack points and is a Level 4 monster.

"Infernity Beast attacks Speed Warrior! Hell Howling!" Kiryu says.

Infernity Beast puffs up its disturbingly-inflatable cheeks and breathes fire.

Yusei yells and his life points sink to 3300.

"Hehehehehahahahah! Dance the dance of death, Yusei!" Says Kiryu.

Yusei seems to do just that for a moment until he slams against the fiery edge of the arena and scrapes along it for a little while.

"This is a real Riding Duel! It's different than your childish games!" Kiryu says.

Yusei gets his bike back under control and drives back into the center, resolutely, that was not fun. "Hmph!" Says Yusei.

"The battle isn't over yet! Infernity Archfiend attacks you directly! Hell Pressure!" Kiryu says. Infernity Archfiend creates a big glowing seal directly above Yusei.

"Huh?!" Asks Yusei.

"Yusei!" Both Jack and Sakura say.

"Yusei!" Says Crow.

"Hahahahahahahahahahah! Ahahahahahahahaha!"

A huge, fiery clawed hand descends from the seal, grasping for Yusei.

He stares up at it, bracing himself for what it might do.

"Hahahahahahahaha! Die, Yusei!" Kiryu says. He races ahead.

As the giant hand reaches for Yusei.
