Chapter 12: Resurrected Soul! Burning New Geoglyph!

Carly falls past the giant, semi-translucent billboard of Misty's head, still staring up at the window through which she fell, in shock.

Flashback. Carly and Jack draw a card together. "Jack…" Carly thinks to herself, in voice-over.

Jack yanks her behind a pillar when she starts threatening to draw attention to him. "Jack…" Carly thinks to herself, in voice-over.

The two of them ride the tower of terror, Jack looking bored. "Jack…" Carly thinks to herself, in voice-over.

Jack turns to her on the tower from which he was staring toward the Satellite, then dons his white blazer once again. The flashback ends.

Back to the present. "Jack!" Carly says. With that, she free falls straight into some sort of grating down below, crashing through it. Her eyes are wide-open and staring, blank.

One card, Fortune Fairy Hu, drifts down to land on top of Carly.

Her entire deck is falling through the air after her.

Above, Divine looks down where Carly fell. "What a pathetic girl. Hm!" Says Divine. He throws back his head and laughs, diabolically.

Resting on top of Carly's chest, her cards begin to smoke around the edges, as she begins to glow along with them. She gasps and is suddenly shining bright violet.

Divine's still standing at the broken window when everything starts to shake. "Hm?" Divine asks.

As Misty sits in her apartment, quietly, the tea in her cup shows ripples. "Carly, it's time." Says Misty.

Jaeger and Godwin, the latter sitting behind a desk. "Is it an earthquake?" Jaeger asks. Godwin's ever inscrutable, waiting intently.

Minako and Jack, who's wearing his riding suit, are standing outside somewhere and look up.

"Papa!" Says Jace.

Jack and Minako turn at his voice.

Jace is running towards his dad.

"Jace?" Jack asks, concerned. He kneels down to one knee as Jace runs into his chest. He then looks up at his dad, with tears in his eyes. "What's wrong?" Asks Jack. "Papa, I had a scary dream about mama. But, it felt real. I felt mama's pain." Jace says. He actually does have the same British cockney accent as Jack. "What?" Asks Jack, worriedly. Tears begin to fall down Jace's face. "Mama needs you, Papa. Please, save mama." Jace says, through his tears. He lowers his head and cries harder. Jack just hugs Jace, tightly.

Grim, who's been resting since he reached them, suddenly wakes up and stands to his feet, looking up at the sky. "Oh, look Jack. He's finally awake." Says Minako. Grim then turns his gaze to Jack and walks up to him, coming to a stop in front of him. "Where's Sakura? It's rare for you two to be apart, unless she specifically orders you to do so. I can only guess that something's happened, that she sent you to find me and bring me to her for my help." Jack says. Grim barks and pulls at his glove with his teeth, trying to get him to follow him. He lets go and starts ahead, only to turn to look back at Jack. "I think he wants you to follow him, Jack. Perhaps, you're right and Sakura needs your help." Says Minako. "Of course I'm right. I've known Sakura for a very long time and I know Grim wouldn't leave her unless she told him to. She sent him to find me and lead me to her." Jack says. He looks down at Jace and holds him by his shoulders. "Don't worry, Jace." Says Jack. Jace looks up at him, meeting his dad in the eyes, light-ocean blue meeting purple. Jack then stands up. "I'm going to find your mom. And I'm going to help her." Jack says. Jace wipes away his tears and smiles up at his dad. "Both papa and mama come back safe." Says Jace. Jack smiles down at his son and pats his head, ruffling up his hair. He then places his helmet on and walks over to his D-Wheel, getting on it.

The Arcadia building trembles along with the rest of the city. A crash of blue, horizontal lightning rips across the sky and then two columns of bright purple fire race up two lanes of a street, destroying two cars unfortunate enough to be parallel-parked. They keep going, parting ways, drawing a shape.

Divine grips the bottom edge of the windowpane, thrown off balance. "Gggh! What is it?" Divine asks.

Inside, Luca, Velvet and Subaru are still in a room separated from Lua's by a glass wall and he's still unconscious. "Ohh! Lua!" Says Luca.

Himuro and Yanagi, still locked up in the basement, try to keep as safe as they can. The former's back is to the door, as close to the doorway as he can get and the latter's cowering on the floor. A ceiling light above them is swaying, ominously. "It's a big one!" Yanagi says. Himuro bangs on the door. "Hey, open up!" Says Himuro. The shaking intensifies and the ceiling lamps swing together, crash into each other and break, showering the two men with broken glass.

In the room that Sakura is in, she's still on the floor, with her wrists tied together. The whip marks on her back are still open and blood has seeped into the carpet. Sakura's body is battered and bruised, the sexual assaults and beatings she received from Divine were quite severe. She's barely moving, aside from her breathing.

Outside, blue lightning is striking more often than is ever natural and the landscape is lit afire with purple flames. They have at last formed a shape, a hummingbird geoglyph, centered around the Arcadia building, which is the only thing left standing around or within it.

Divine, still at the window, is watching all this. "What's happening?" Divine asks.

Below the window, an impact site on the ground can just barely be seen, but whatever made the impact, isn't there anymore.

Divine gets on the phone. "Everyone, get to safety! Hurry up and leave!" Says Divine.

Someone is standing in the doorway, wreathed in shadows.

Divine stops speaking on the phone. "What are you doing? Hurry up and leave!" Divine says, irritably.

"Divine, I won't forgive you." Says Carly.

"Huh? Who are you?" Divine asks. Bright blue light, maybe a bolt of lightning, flashes right outside the broken window at his back and he can see Carly's face, including her blank, staring eyes. The phone handset falls to the floor. "You're… That's impossible. There's no way you could've survived that fall." Says Divine.

"Divine, I have resurrected in order to bury you." Carly says.

"What?" Asks Divine. As he stares at Carly's right arm, a mark begins to glow violet on it, one that matches the earth-scorching symbol outside.

She looks at it, dispassionately. "This mark is pulsating. It wants your tarnished soul as a sacrifice. Accept my Shadow Duel." Carly says.

"Shadow Duel?" Asks Divine.

Carly's mark burns and she gasps, as though she just got an electric shock. If she was about to scream, the column of bright light that appears around her cuts her off, obscuring her from view.

"What?" Divine asks.

Carly reappears, now dressed in an outfit, which consists of a black robe of the Dark Singers, that is accented with orange stripes, leaving out a midriff, black, fingerless gloves, that button well above her elbows, a skirt, that is long in the back, which is reminiscent to a long cape, and short in the front, that separates into leaves of cloth, over a black mini-skirt, and black, knee-high, heeled boots. She has an evil-looking duel disk, with teeth and a large orange jewel. A mark similar to tracking dye, in her case a left-side eye triangle, appears on her face. Carly opens her eyes, which her irises have turned light blue and her scleras have turned black, and her face is alight with sinister glee. She activates her duel disk.

"I don't know how you survived, but you must have a death wish if you're challenging me to a duel." Says Divine.

"Keep talking, Divine! It won't be the same as last time. I'll send you and your desires into a world of shadows!" Carly says.

"You're talking nonsense! Fine. I accept your duel!" Says Divine. He activates his duel disk. "Taste my psychic dueling powers again!" Says Divine.

He slots his deck and so does Carly, both duel disks auto-shuffle and then they both draw five. "Duel!" Both Carly and Divine say.

"I go first!" Says Divine. He draws, his face uplit by the lights on his duel disk. "I summon Krebons!" Divine says.

Krebons has 1200 attack points and is a Level 2 monster. "Next, I activate the Quick-Play Spell 'Emergency Teleport' from my hand! I can Special Summon a Level Three-or-below Psychic-Type monster from my hand or deck! Come, Mind Protector!" Says Divine.

Mind Protector has 2200 attack points and is a Level 3 monster. "Level Two Krebons tunes Level Three Mind Protector! The flames of hate burn from the depths of my soul! Dark anger will overwhelm the world! Synchro Summon! Appear, Magical Android!" Divine says.

Magical Android has 2400 attack points and is a Level 6 monster. "The first player can't attack on the first turn. However, Magical Android's effect activates during my End Phase! With Magical Android, during my End Phase, I gain life points equal to the number of my Psychic-Type monsters multiplied by six hundred! I have one Psychic-Type monster on my field! Therefore, I gain six hundred life points." Says Divine. His life points increase to 4600. "I end my turn." Divine says.

"My turn! I activate the Field Spell 'Future Visions' from my hand." Says Carly.

The field is veiled with little points of light, as though they're standing in a cloud of stars that has come to sit in the dark office, lighting it up with starlight.

The windows at Divine's back are turned black by the purplish-red quality of the starscape. "'Future Visions'?" Divine asks.

"That's right. My duel will tell your future." Says Carly.

"Just when I thought that you're being spooky, you're using the same fortune-telling deck as always. Sorry, but your lame attempts to trick me won't work. No one controls my future! Not even destiny itself!" Divine says.

"Then try to escape the destiny that I foretold! I summon Fortune Lady Light!" Says Carly.

Fortune Lady Light has ? attack points and is a Level 1 monster. "Fortune Lady's Level increases by one during every Standby Phase. This card's attack and defense points are equal to its Level multiplied by two hundred. On the turn that Fortune Lady Light is summoned, its Level is One! That means it has two hundred attack points! Then I activate the Field Spell 'Future Visions's' effect! I send my summoned monster into the future until my next turn!" Carly says. Fortune Lady Light waves and vanishes with a slice of her scythe.

"Your fortune-telling has started." Says Carly.

"You summoned a monster, but you got rid of it? Your field is wide open." Divine says.

"That's fine. Destiny is already determined. Fortune Lady Light's effect now activates! When this card leaves the field, I can Special Summon a new Fortune Lady from my deck! Appear, Fortune Lady Fire!" Says Carly.

Fortune Lady Fire has ? attack points and is a Level 2 monster. "Fortune Lady Fire's Level is Two. Therefore, it has four hundred attack points this turn!" Carly says.

"My Magical Android has two thousand four hundred attack points. Your weakling is no match against it." Says Divine.

"It's more than enough because your power is just for show. Fortune Lady Fire's effect activates! When this card is successfully Special Summoned in attack position, one of the monsters on your field is destroyed, and you take damage equal to that monster's attack points." Carly says.

"What?" Asks Divine.

"Destroy Magical Android!" Carly says.

Divine gets blasted against the window frame, right next to the shattered hole through the window, and his life points fall to 2200.

Carly chuckles a little.

Divine stays down, winded. "What was that impact? It's more powerful than our psychic duels." Says Divine.

"What's wrong? You don't look well." Carly says.

Divine gets up again, clenching his teeth, if they're going to play rough, he's game. "That's not enough to defeat me." Says Divine.

"I'm still allowed to attack. Fortune Lady Fire, attack him directly!" Carly says.

And Divine is blasted against the wall and falls to the floor again, shaking. He has 1800 life points left.

"I set one card and end my turn. I forgot to tell you that according to my deck's fortune-telling, your destiny is death." Says Carly.

Divine gasps, in horror.

Lightning cracks the sky above Security headquarters in Domino. "What's taking so long? Hurry up and show the satellite images on the monitor! Ah." Jaeger says. Godwin's sitting behind him at his desk, demurely. The picture on the television screen clears and shows clouds parting to reveal an aerial shot of the City, with the hummingbird sign centering around the Arcadia building. "Ah! What is that, Director Godwin?" Asks Jaeger. "Unbelievable. There's a geoglyph in our city." Godwin says. "That means a Dark Signer is in Neo Domino City!" Says Jaeger.

Aki is walking out onto a landing bordering the central shaft of empty space in the Arcadia building. "Divine! Where are you, Divine?" Aki says.

"Sorry, but I can't let you see Divine." Says Misty.

"Huh?" Aki asks, startled.

Misty stops walking, just around the corner of the open walkway and glares at her.

"Aren't you Misty?" Asks Aki.

"I'm happy that you know who I am. I know a lot about you, as well, Aki Izayoi. Sorry, I meant to say Black Rose Witch." Misty says.

Aki is slightly taken aback at her bluntness.

"You cannot escape from my revenge." Says Misty.

"Revenge? What are you talking about?" Aki asks.

"It's fine. I never expected you to tell the truth. No matter what you say, he's never coming back. However, I want to honor him. You're going to meet him!" Says Misty.

"Who are you?" Aki asks.

"A Dark Signer." Says Misty.

"Dark Signer?" Aki asks.

Misty walks to the corner of the landing to square off against her. "It's our destiny to battle. By accepting that destiny, I gained the power of revenge. After five thousand years, the seal has broken. The only thing left to do is battle until your team or my team is defeated! And the prize, is your damned Host, whom you left to suffer at the hands of Divine! As a Signer, your supposed to be one of her loyal protectors, but because of you, she's left defenseless!" Says Misty.

"What are you talking about?" Aki asks.

Misty holds her right arm across her chest, as though brandishing a duel disk on the wrong arm, her arm glows purple, a lizard. A bright purple-white light shines beneath her feet and her teal-sashed, white-cream dress billows up, paralleled by her long, knee-length hair that sweeps up like a pair of black wings. Misty is completely obscured, consumed, in the purple fire.

As Aki watches, her arm is glowing, too. "Ah! What's this?" Asks Aki.

When Misty is visible again, she, like Carly, has undergone a transformation. She still wears that pendant in the middle of her forehead, but beneath her eyes appear two dye-like marks, thick, forked lines, that are symmetrical to each other, which resemble inverted wings. Misty's scleras have gone black. Over that same full, white dress, she's now wearing the black robes of the Dark Signers, accented with green stripes, leaving out a midriff, without hers being bare like Carly's due to the dress she wears underneath, which makes it reminiscent to a waist cincher, a long skirt, that separates into leaves of cloth, and black, strap-on high heels. The change is not as dramatic, but Misty is unveiled as a bad guy.

"Ugh! Dark Signer…" Aki says.

The building begins to shake.

"Agh! What? Another earthquake?" Asks Divine.

Carly is unfazed.

A dark, empty street in Domino. Grim's running down the center, with Jack racing after him on his D-Wheel. Blue lightning crackles across the sky, horizontally, the ground shakes and suddenly they are outrunning a massive crack opening up down the center of the street and filling with purple fire. "Huh?" Jack asks. He looks back. "What?" Asks Jack. Grim runs into a side-alleyway, as if having the same idea as him, and he follows after him, arcing into the side-alleyway, smoothly, letting the fire pass him by. He heads right into a building, with Jack riding after him, across the floor of the lobby, up every flight of stairs and bursts through the rooftop door. Grim soon comes to a stop and looks down from the rooftop, he's following his gaze from astride his D-Wheel. "What is that?" Jack asks.

Patches of black-and-gray fog and mounds of rubble are scattered around the main event, on top of the hummingbird sign burning around the Arcadia building, there is now a lizard sign also, both centered around the Arcadia building.

On their monitor, Godwin and Jaeger see it, too. The latter recoils from the screen. "Another new geoglyph." Says Godwin.

"Hm, ah! What's this?" Jack asks. His arm's glowing.

At Martha's house. Yusei bursts out the back door, arm alight. He looks out at the City and sees the double sign reflected against the clouds. "Has a battle against a Dark Signer started in the City?" Asks Yusei.

"I feel it. Someone with the mark of the Crimson Dragon is about to begin a duel!" Jack says. He looks straight ahead, the only thing left standing in the middle of the two signs. "Huh? It's over there!" Says Jack. He looks down at Grim, who's looking back at him. "Come on, get on!" Jack says. Grim walks up to him and his D-Wheel, he leaps onto it and lies down in front of him, lying at his feet, and encircles his unnaturally long tail around himself. As soon as he's settled on the D-Wheel, Jack rides back toward the rooftop door, working up momentum, turns back to the edge of the roof and rides right at it, with a yell of triumph. He jumps off of the rooftop, across the street, to the next and lands, spinning like a top. Jack keeps riding.

A Security officer walks toward an edge of one of the signs, a wall of purple flames. "Dammit, what's happening?"

Another security officer speaks from inside the shuttle they're driving. "Such bad timing. I'm right in the middle of a prisoner transfer." There sits the same Bommer first met during the Fortune Cup, with handcuffs on his wrists, heavy shackles on his legs and head bowed. He opens his eyes.

Himuro sits up from cowering on the floor once again. "Grandpa, are you okay?" Asks Himuro. "Yeah, I'm fine. Was that an aftershock?" Yanagi asks. "I don't know, but it was a good thing for us." Says Himuro. "Heh?" Yanagi asks. "It might now open." Says Himuro.

Other side of the door, as he rams it once, twice and busts through on top of it. "Well done, Himuro!" Yanagi says. "Grandpa, we have to find the kids and Sakura!" Says Himuro.

The Arcadia Building stands besieged by two violet signs burning on the cityscape below. Inside, Aki and Misty face off on the landing.

"I came to destroy Arcadia Movement. Your only remaining path is to battle me." Misty says.

"Fine. I don't know why you hate me, but I'll be your opponent." Says Aki. A compartment in the wall pops open and reveals her duel disk. Aki puts it on and activates it. "This is my home. If you're going to try to destroy this place, then I must battle you." Aki says.

Misty's duel disk activates as she holds it at her side.

Aki slots her deck.

"Duel!" Says both Aki and Misty.

"My turn. I summon Twilight Rose Knight." Aki says.

Twilight Rose Knight has 1000 attack points and is a Level 3 monster. "Twilight Rose Knight's effect activates. When this card is summoned, I can Special Summon a Level Four-or-below Plant-Type monster from my hand. Appear, Lord Poison!" Says Aki.

Lord Poison has 1500 attack points and is a Level 4 monster. "Level Three Twilight Rose Knight tunes Level Four Lord Poison!" Aki says.

Twilight Rose Knight brandishes his sword and flings three stars toward Lord Poison, they swirl around into green rings, aligning with Lord Poison and creating a column of red-pink light.

"The cold flame envelops the entire world. Black flower, bloom! Synchro Summon! Appear, Black Rose Dragon!" Says Aki.

Black Rose Dragon has 2400 attack points and is a Level 7 monster.

"Black Rose Dragon. Aki Izayoi, this proves that you're a Signer." Misty says.

Flashback. Misty lays on a gurney looking disheveled, as she is wheeled somewhere in a hurry. "Hang in there, Misty!" "You're fine! You'll be okay! Stay strong!" "At that time, I didn't know why my life was saved." Says Misty, in voice-over. In Misty's eye, reflections of the passing lights on the ceiling of the hallway are obscured by something like an inkblot, that forms into a lizard, with glowing red eyes and green markings. The lizard hisses and disappears. Misty gasps, altered. The flashback ends.

Back to the present. "However, something entered my body back then. It whispers to me from the inside. It tells me to kill the Black Rose Witch, the servant of the Crimson Dragon and its Host." Misty says.

"I set three cards. I end my turn." Says Aki.

"My turn. From my hand, I activate the Field Spell 'Savage Colosseum'." Misty says.

She does and the walls in the central empty column area are suddenly lined with columned doorways and intricate carvings.

"As long as I have this card, all monsters in attack position must attack. For every monster that battles, the player gains three hundred life points. I activate another Continuous Spell! Due to 'Field Barrier's' effect, a Field Spell cannot be destroyed nor can a new Field Spell be activated!" Says Misty.

"A card that protects Field Spells?" Aki thinks to herself.

"I summon Reptilianne Gorgon!" Misty says.

Reptilianne Gorgon has 1400 attack points and is a Level 3 monster. "Next, I play the Equip Spell 'Attack Pheromones' from my hand. When the monster equipped with this card attacks your monster, your monster switches to attack position. I equip this card on Reptilianne Gorgon! Then I activate another Equip Spell from my hand. 'Molting Escape'! Once per turn, the Reptile-Type monster equipped with this card won't be destroyed in battle. And when I use this effect, the equipped monster's attack points increase by one hundred points. Reptilianne Gorgon! Attack Black Rose Dragon!" Says Misty.

"Why? Black Rose Dragon has two thousand four hundred attack points, and you're attacking with a monster with one thousand four hundred attack points. That's suicide!" Aki says.

"Poison Glance!" Says Misty.

Reptilianne Gorgon zaps yellow lightning at Black Rose Dragon and her beast retaliates with a full-throated gust of pink-violet flame.

Misty endures the damage, down to 3000 life points and smiles.

When the dust clears, Black Rose Dragon is still standing there.

"Due to 'Molting Escape's' effect, once per turn, the Reptile-Type monster isn't destroyed in battle and gains one hundred attack points!" Misty says. Reptilianne Gorgon's points rise up to 1500.

Aki blinks once. "Did she attack in order to increase her monster's attack points? No, that can't be it." Aki thinks to herself.

"Black Rose Dragon is now sealed away." Says Misty.

"Sealed away? Huh?" Aki asks. Suddenly, Black Rose Dragon starts to turn grayish-tan, as though transforming into a sandstone statue of herself. "Black Rose Dragon turned into stone!" Asks Aki.

"Due to Reptilianne Gorgon's effect, the attack points of your monster that battled it become zero, and it cannot change battle position." Misty says.

"What?" Asks Aki. Black Rose Dragon's attack points fall to 0.

"The Field Spell 'Savage Colosseum's' effect activates! For every monster that battles, the player gains three hundred life points." Misty says. This gives her 3300 life points. "Everyone that battles against Reptilianne Gorgon turns into stone and crumbles. Will you be able to survive, Aki Izayoi?" Asks Misty.

"I will protect my home!" Aki says.

"I understand. But, can you do it? Your mentor Divine, the one who tortured and defiled your damned Host, will soon be gone." Says Misty.

"What?" Aki asks, trembling and concerned.
