A/n: Fanfiction keeps changing things up in the document sector. It's confusing. Anyhow, here is the next chapter! I enjoy song fics to emphasize points and you will see that more in the world of the "Disney" as I sort of am doing a satire on how real life apparently doesn't have ENOUGH singing and Disney can do it too much but yet, it's classy so heck. Please enjoy, comment(POSITIVE or constructive) and fave and follow! This chapter will be close to 3,000 words when I'm done. I am sorry, but it is taking a while to get back into the swing of things, but instead of three chapters a day, I hope you will enjoy the number of chapters I do manage to get out a week, that I hope are good quality.
Pabbie was lounging in his little hut alone. He sipped his tea, and then he laid the cup back on his small oak round table near the fire. "Sister Moon... what is it that your brother is hoping to accomplish?" He murmured softly, frowning into his tea leaves. The tea leaves were shaped like the head and shoulders of Elsa.
Meanwhile in Burgess, Jack found that being human made him tire out alot more quickly. Panting, he hadn't been able to find Jamie anywhere. On top of that, people were giving him funny looks for the way he was dressed with that bear fur poncho. He was glad he at least had his blue sweatshirt but with his brown hair and eyes, it now looked a bit mismatched. He tried to think of places that Jamie could have gone. His mind nagged at him to get his staff, but his heart told him that Jamie was the one who needed to be found. "Seriously, this was so much easier when I didn't need to eat..." Jack panted, looking around the dirt path he was on, behind a neighborhood. He suddenly felt something hot in his jacket sweatshirt pocket and he yelped, yanking out his old tooth case. His eyes widened. "... What?" It cooled instantly in his hands, and Jack furrowed his brow.
"...And that is why this staff is an important object. It is said that ancient sorcerers used it," Sophie finished dramatically in her after school creative writing class. Her classmates were a mixed bag. Some showed interest, others texted under their desks, and the teacher looked eagerly ready to speak, pushing his big round dorky black frames up the bridge of his narrow bridge of a slightly beaky nose. His windswept dark brown hair was short and trimmed, but he had rather bushy brows. The kids would joke that he was Mr. Catapillar.
"Very interesting indeed!" the teacher nodded, smiling. "Ah, you know, that is quite an interesting stick, where did you find it, Sophie?"
"I borrowed it from a friend of mine who was staying over with my big brother," Sophie said, only slightly fibbing.
"Well, very well done!" The teacher clapped and the class gave a resounding single clap which signified unity and whatever the heck else it was supposed to symbolize. Sophie beamed, sitting back down, propping the staff under her chair. The teacher called on the next person. Behind Sophie, her friend Elfred tapped her shoulder. She looked over it, to her blonde haired buddy.
"That looks really cool, Sophie," he said, awed. Sophie cracked a smile.
"It is, it is said to belong to ancient wizards," she whispered back teasing.
Some kids told her to shush but she and Elfred just smirked at each other.
There was a knock on the door suddenly. The teacher got up and opened the door to come face to face with a rather disgruntled Jamie. "Ah, Jamie Bennett," the teacher blinked.
Jamie took a deep breath. "I'm sorry to interrupt, but I - my friend, needs that staff." He sounded irritated but the teacher looked to Sophie who gulped. She quickly grabbed the staff, scampering to the door.
"Jamie, it's the middle of class," she said, rueful.
"Look, my friend is going back to his home in a bit and he needs his cool staff," Jamie explained to the teacher and her. The Teacher nodded.
"Alright, well, thank you for at least knocking first," the teacher smiled at Jamie. Jamie smiled a bit but it was clear it was strained. He turned back to his little sister.
"... Sophie, mom says she'll pick you up in an hour or so when your class gets out, I have to go," Jamie turned on his heel hurriedly. Sophie sighed. Her teacher watched him leave down the hallway quickly.
Jamie heard the door click shut and turned once to look down the hallway at the door. His heart suddenly jolted. At the end of the hall, coming towards him...was a black...Panther?
"Oh jiminy cricket..." Jamie's eyes widened. He turned on his heel, taking off quickly down the hallway, and towards the entrance. He couldn't hear the shadow as it moved, but the hair stood up on the back of his neck. I'm not scared. I'm not scared. It's just...a nightmare. It's a day-mare. That's all. I'm not afraid of some shadow! I'm no ground hog! Jamie tried to be firm, wondering just how ten years had changed Pitch Black, controller of the darkness.
Jack sighed, leaning against a tree, holding the case. "You've been warming up a bit ...lately... what is it that you're trying to tell me? Is it another...flashback?" Jack murmured. Would it be of his three siblings? Or one of them...or a deja vu...? Jack looked up, feeling a cool breeze suddenly. He hadn't realized his eyes had misted a little. He touched the center of the tooth case, closing his eyes. Taking a deep breath, he composed his wave of sudden aching in his chest. Now was not the time for a trip down memory lane. He had already seen his sister cry as an adult...as a child, he wanted to just find Jamie, to fix things, and then worry about his staff. "I hope this is the step towards the right path... Man In The Moon," Jack murmured to no one in particular. The breeze picked up from behind him suddenly.
With a yelp, Jack found himself pushed as though by some invisible source, away from the tree. Tripping elegantly as a flamingo with its butt on fire, he tumbled face first into the snowy bank. Spitting out snow and teeth chattering, Jack panted, raising his head, disgruntled. His eyes widened. In front of him, was the small pond. His case glowed once more. Jack gasped as his case floated out and towards the center of the ice. Jack's heart caught in his throat. It hovered over the spot that Sophia, his little sister, had been standing all those years ago. What about Charlie and Alexandra though? Jack swallowed.
Was the wind really a coincidence. "Man..in the moon?" Jack looked around himself. He was surprised that no one was around. Not wanting the floating container to be spotted, Jack tentatively stepped onto the ice, in his dorky blue boots that he thanked to the heavens didn't have bells. Keeping his balance, he moved towards the case. He stretched out his hand towards the case. "What is that you're trying to tell me?"
Pant. Pant. Jamie had a stitch in his side as he ran down the block like the devil was at his heels. The shadow was solid. As far as Jamie knew, but why wasn't anyone else reacting to the fact that a giant black shadow panther was literally running down the block after him. Avoiding hitting a person holding groceries getting out of their car, Jamie yelled a hurried apology. The person turned and brandished a fist, and Jamie's eyes widened as the panther slid right through the person, in a blueish like silhouette that looked eerie. Oh no, so it was only Jamie that could see this creature after all! Jamie wished he didn't have the power to believe. It actually was a very bad ability right now.
"Why couldn't it be unicorns? Why couldn't I have believed in UNICORNS and fairies and stuff!" Jamie panted, groaning. He turned down a block, hoping to see if Jack perhaps had returned to his house. Suddenly he heard a cat-like whimper and he halted, turning and looking over his shoulder. His eyes widened. A man stood there, cloaked in white, like a...monk. He had moved towards the Panther but it had panicked from the brightness, the sense of power and hope that radiated off this man astounded Jamie. Jamie watched him motionlessly as the shadow disappeared down a drain pipe in it's haste to get away. Jamie's mouth was dry.
"So...we finally meet, Jamie Bennett," the man's voice was deep but not unkind. He turned to look at Jamie in the eye, walking slowly over. Jamie gripped the staff, not wanting to look weird talking to air...it was clear no one else could see him. Some people had cast Jamie weird looks but the strange man merely smiled. "Come with me...I have much to talk to you about..."
Jamie swallowed. How could he respond without making himself look crazy? He suddenly got an idea. He pulled out his phone. He pretended to answer it. "Ah, hello? Oh hi! What? You want to talk to me?" He leaned against a light pole, looking at the Man who leaned leisurely beside him. People walked by with their dogs and baby strollers, taking nice walks despite the snow. Kids let out of school were throwing snowballs and squealing in delight across the road from where Jamie was stationed. The Man smiled at him in awe.
"That was smart," the Man's mystical voice went to a casual normal baritone. "You are rather sharp, aren't you? Ah of course you are...well, I know that you probably are wondering who I am?"
"Ah, yes, could you give me your name again? I know that I asked for your number but I forgot your name, how silly of me," Jamie said indiscreetly.
"I am Manny..." the man said quietly. Jamie's heart leapt to his throat.
"Manny...ah, that's right! You know my friend, Jack. Right?" He said casually.
"Indeed I do...however, I have a ...request of you..." The man said, looking across the way at the laughing children throwing snowballs at each other and sledding down a small slope that was a good distance away from the road. Some parents walked by with dogs. Jamie swallowed.
"Request? Cool. What kind?" He asked, eager but also awed.
"You talking to your girlfriend?" An amused voice called from behind Jamie. Jamie jolted. His friend Pippa smiled at him from under her cute white cap. She wore her green scarf around her neck. Her skin was tan and her cheeks were plush as ever. Her reddish-brown hair was tied back into a small ponytail and she had changed her hair since they were kids in the front so now she had cute side bangs swept to the left side of her face. Her brown eyes bore into Jamie.
"Wh-what Girlfriend?!" Jamie flustered, nearly dropping his phone. He stammered, his cheeks heating up from embarrassment.
Pippa put her hands on her hips. "Claude says you've been spaced out and even Monty noted that you've been getting more...secretive. Is this it? You have a girlfriend? It's not Cupcake is it?" Pippa was teasing Jamie, and nudging his arm. Jamie gulped.
"N-No!" he spluttered indignantly. "B-Besides, Cupcake moved like...five years ago! We haven't talked since we were ten!"
"True, she doesn't do Face-book," Pippa sighed. "I wonder what happened to her... oh well."
Jamie swallowed, looking to Manny. Manny smiled at him, holding a finger to his lips, and winking a twinkle in those merry blue eyes that were like warm crystals when the sun would shine on them at a certain angle.
"Ah...well...I was just talking to a friend I made over the internet," Jamie fibbed.
"Oh! Can i say hi?" Pippa smiled warmly at him, curious. Jamie gulped. He pretended to hold the phone to his ear.
"Oh...he hung up already," he said quickly.
Pippa pouted. "Jamie Bennett, if you are lying to me, so help me, I will tell your mother," she waggled her eyebrows playfully annoyed.
Jamie sweated. "I don't have a girlfriend!"
"And I don't smell lies," Pippa teased him. Jamie swallowed.
"Ah... wait...where is Monty and Claude, weren't they with you?" He asked, looking around.
"Monty and Claude are playing video games at my house right now... although I can see them behind you now, looking out a window," she said cheerfully.
Jamie did a double take. "How d'you know that?"
"You know, because you're standing in front of my house," she quirked her eyebrows at him amused. Jamie winced. He hadn't realized in his panic that he had run into his own personal neighborhood.
"Ah...er..." Jamie felt like an idiot. Manny chuckled quietly. Jamie wanted to Kick him. But how do you kick the all mighty spirit of the moon without that pissing him off. Jamie felt Pippa tug his arm.
"You should come inside, you silly dummy," she giggled. Jamie swallowed. Manny smiled at him.
"I can't Pippa, I'm sorry," Jamie said quietly.
"Aw, c'mon! I haven't seen you in ages! You always go off; come on!" Pippa chuckled, tugging Jamie's sleeve. Jamie pulled his arm away firmly.
"I'm sorry, Pippa, I said NO."
There was a small silence. Pippa swallowed, and Jamie hated how harsh he sounded. But Jack needed his staff... besides, his friends had outgrown the Guardians...he wouldn't drag them back into this mess. They weren't kids. They just weren't kids anymore. Jamie felt alone. It must have shown because after Pippa trudged back into the house, with tears in her eyes, Manny put his hand on Jamie's shoulder. "Perhaps...now was a bad time?"
"...Jamie Bennett! You're a grade- A moron!" Jamie felt something cold and sloshy hit him in the back of his head and slide into his parka. With a yelp, he squirmed, feeling cold shivers from the loose snow ball that Pippa had chucked at the back of his head. Jamie swallowed.
"Pippa! Hey...Pippa I'm sor-" but he stopped. His two guy friends looked at him from the window but he watched them leave the window, the curtain falling back into place. Jamie felt suddenly distant. Manny sighed.
"...I'm sorry, this is my fault, isn't it?" he said sadly. Jamie shook his head.
"No... the fault is my own." Jamie balled his free hand into a fist by his side. "...I have to return this staff...that's the first thing..." Jamie murmured.
"Ah...actually, that is why I'm here..." Manny said quietly. Jamie looked up at him with a small concerned frown.
"What do you mean?" he asked.
"Jamie, I have been thinking hard about this..." Manny held out his hand for the staff. "I feel like in order to find your answer, you will have to be willing to take a particular risk."
"Find an answer? An answer to what?" Jamie asked puzzled. He gripped the staff to himself.
"...To who you want to be...and who you are afraid you're becoming." Manny said softly. "I know the divorce was hard on you...and that you still blame yourself for why your father le-"
"Shut up! I don't want pity!" Jamie suddenly flared. His eyes misted. This Manny fellow. He knew? Of course he did. Jamie suddenly felt anger rise up in his chest. This man could have helped him stay as a believer but he'd taken away Jamie's new awesome allies.
"Jamie... please, I need you to work with me," Manny pleaded but Jamie scoffed.
"I don't want to work with you!" Jamie turned on his heel. Manny watched quietly as Jamie took off, staff in his grip still. When Jamie rounded the corner, Manny ran a hand through his luscious locks of perfection on a magical being scalp, and let out a deep rumbly sigh.
"I haven't angered one Bennett but two..." he mused to himself. "...This isn't even Pitch's fault. It's all my own." Manny held a small orb in his hand of white and blue mystical energy. "...Please forgive me Jamie Bennett...I hope you can accept this as my apology..."
His eyes glowed silver for a brief second, and the orb disappeared from his palm. Manny looked up at the sky towards a shadow hawk that was circling above his head. "...my, my my...aren't teenagers just simply...the worst." Pitch cackled, from behind a pole, casting his dead eyes towards the Man in the Moon. Manny looked quietly at Pitch.
"Pitch... " Manny said quietly. "I suppose I owe you all an apology-"
"Don't apologize you old baggart." Pitch snorted in disdain. "The only thing you can do now for me, is stay out of my way!"
Pitch flicked his wrist, and Manny's eyes widened. A giant shadow bear, along with a shadow wolf and shadow panther all lunged at him. Manny choked. The negative energy, it was so powerful. His light dimmed momentarily. As long as Jack, Jamie, and the Guardians were clouded with what had been going down, Manny knew that Pitch knew he knew that he wasn't at his strongest peak. Manny managed to disappear but just barely as a giant shadow bear claw swung through and literally dented the pole behind where Manny's head used to be. There was a giant crunching sound and the pole physically fell over onto a car hood, causing the car alarm to go off and people to look out their windows. Pippa and the gang were included. Pitch cackled. The stupid people couldn't seem him, but he knew that his shadows were getting stronger.
"Interesting...how interesting..." Pitch cackled. "Find me Jamie Bennett!" He hissed, and he dismissed his lackies and they dissipated in order to pursue Jamie, who was currently on his way to the small pond where he liked to stop and think when he was lost. Pitch turned on his heel, smirking darkly. "And now...for sweet little...Anna." He shook the snow globe, revealing the unconcious Anna, the shadows keeping her guarded in her bed chambers. Pitch stepped easily through the portal, and the portal shut tight behind him.
"ugh..." Anna groaned. She stirred but when she opened her eyes, they widened in horror.
"You're going to be having a dream, my dear," Pitch said, mimicking Elsa's tone of voice. Anna's eyes widened.
"Y-you...you- Who are you?" Anna yelled.
"Me? I'm your worst nightmare!" Pitch cackled, sweeping over Anna, and he manifested himself within her, connecting his fractured damaged evil soul to her completely opposite one. It was a theory that Pitch was testing and so far...Anna screamed but it quieted until her eyes blinked and her body moved without her permission. She fell into a deep heavy sleep. Walking over to a head-dresser mirror, a pair of blue eyes stared back at her. A contorted dark smirk embraced those freckled fine features. "Everything is going perfectly."
