A/N: Hey guys! Thank you so much for the reviews. Since I've had so many Morganders requests I've decided that I'm going to do one Morganders story, then one about something else and alternate like that for a little while. This story is for Cirinde Palantir who gave me a prompt for Morganders in a storm. Hope you enjoy!
This is set after Morgan is rescued from her kidnapping in the 13th season finale, although I don't directly mention it.
Summary – Morgan is overwhelmed at the lab and so runs out into a storm. Greg follows and they talk…maybe even more…Morganders ;)
The Storm
Morgan had had enough. She couldn't take the constant ritual of someone asking her 'Are you doing okay?' every 5 minutes. She couldn't stand how her dad was trying to convince her she needed more time off work to come to terms with recent events. Luckily, Morgan was just as stubborn as her father and soon got her way, but it didn't particularly help matters.
Ecklie instructed the cops at her crime scenes to keep a better eye on Morgan; he probably threatened them or something, the young CSI thought. She couldn't stand to have them hovering over her shoulder all the time. Morgan felt Russell and Finn treated her like she was made glass, and she'd break any minute. Russell would assign her to easy cases and they were very careful what they said around her. Nick and Sara were very protective with her, not letting Morgan handle the suspects alone and immediately coming to her defence when one of them got testy.
The only people who seemed to treat Morgan like normal were Greg and Hodges, her best friends. They seemed to understand that Morgan didn't want to talk about her ordeal all the time, that she didn't need the pressure of being watched over. At least that's what the blonde CSI thought until she overheard Hodges talking to Henry one night.
"I think Morgan isn't handling this as well as she's coming across" Hodges explained "She's so quiet and I don't think it's good for her to keep stuff bottled up"
"You don't want me to keep stuff bottled up?" Morgan asked angrily. Hodges and Henry turned to look at her in surprise, unaware she was even there. People started coming out of the labs to see what all the shouting was about. "Fine then I won't! Here's how I really feel! Irritated that my friends don't trust me be left alone anymore. Angry that you guys think you can talk about me behind my back! And totally freakin' useless, because you won't let me talk to suspects anymore! You know what; I don't need you guys to protect me. I am a grown woman and I can handle myself. So stop making me feel like a weak pathetic China Doll which could break at any moment!" and with that she stormed out of the lab.
It was raining heavily outside. As soon as Morgan stepped through the door she felt the ice cold droplets pummelling her skin, making her usually waved hair go limp and the weight of her clothes grew heavy. There was a strong wind picking up speed, and the rolling thunder sounded like catastrophic explosions in Morgan's ears. The dark night sky was illuminated every now and again with shattering streaks of lightening.
Morgan didn't care about any of this though; in fact she didn't appear to notice. She just needed to clear her head, she needed to walk. She didn't know where, she didn't know for how long, she just needed to get away from the lab, away from everyone and be alone with her thoughts.
Morgan started shivering furiously as the constant beat of rain made her feel like she was covered in a thin layer of ice, but she was determined to keep going. Maybe the loud sound of the thunder would drown out the painful memories, the horror filled flashbacks of her captivity.
The CSI ended up near the park, and was walking towards the baseball field when a sudden bolt of lightning struck a tree nearby and the branch came crashing down. Morgan startled and inhaled a sharp breath, like she had finally noticed just how bad the storm was. She'd never liked storms. It was on a stormy night that her father left her, and they'd bared traumatic memories for her ever since.
"I'm singin' in the rain…" A voice appeared out of nowhere making Morgan jump again as she spun round and looked for the source. "Just singin' in the rain…" it was then the blonde noticed Greg Sanders swinging around on a lamppost behind her, and she couldn't help the grin which broke across her face. "What a glorious feelin', I'm happy again."
"What are you doing?" Morgan asked with a laugh as she approached her friend.
Greg was also soaked through and his normally perfectly spiked hair was flat against his head and he too had strong shiver to his slight frame. "I followed you" he explained "And now I realise how creepy that is" he said sheepishly.
"No, I'm glad" Morgan said. They had to yell a little too be heard above the storm "I enjoyed your performance!" she smiled.
"Thank you! I kinda like the rain" Greg stated.
"Why?" Morgan asked.
"It washes away the demons" Greg explained. Morgan supposed she could understand this. "After my lab exploded, it rained on the night I got home from hospital and I came to this very park, and I took my shirt off and I lay on my stomach and just felt the rain against the scars on my back…it made me feel better. It washed the pain away…that means the mental too"
"Yeah" Morgan said softly, Greg barely heard her. "I think I get that…I haven't felt this clean in days. It's stormy outside, but it's clear in my head"
Greg gave her a soft smile "Come back to the lab with me?" he asked.
Morgan's face changed into a sad frown as she looked down at the ground "I can't. I can't face the others again yet. I'm…I'm angry at them right now. I don't want to be…I really don't want to be, because I know I should be appreciative and I know they only want to look out for me but…it all just got too much, you know?"
"Okay, I understand that, but we need to get you out of this storm. You'll catch Hypothermia" Greg said concernedly. "Idiotically, the thought bring an umbrella didn't exactly cross my mind!" he said with a crooked grin.
"I don't care" Morgan said "You were right; I like the feel of the rain. And if I get sick, well that will give me an excuse to stay away from work for a while"
"Don't say that" Greg pleaded "I would be so bored without you, and I'd miss you a lot" he confessed. Morgan gave him a soft smile. "If you're going to be so stubborn about staying outside, at least have my jacket" Greg said, removing the garment and holding it out for the female CSI to take.
"No, Greg! You're cold too" Morgan protested as she could see he was trembling like a leaf.
"Well I wouldn't be much of a Gentleman if I didn't offer" Greg said, draping his jacket around Morgan's shoulders. "Now I'm going to use the guilt trip method to get us to find a place for shelter, since I'm only wearing a thin shirt now" he said with a lopsided smile.
"You go get dry and warm, I'm staying" Morgan replied bluntly.
"Okay, then I guess I have no choice" Greg said with a sigh "I'll just have to carry you" he said with smirk.
"What?" Morgan said with a nervous laugh, but then Greg started to move closer towards her. "No…Greg…" he placed an arm around her back. "Greg, don't you dare" Morgan kept on objecting, even though she was trying hard not to laugh "Don't you dare!" she shrieked and then burst out laughing as Greg finally picked her up, bridal style, and started walking off with her.
"Ssh, you'll get me in trouble for kidnapping if anyone hears you!" Greg teased. "Didn't know I was this strong did you? Although, you don't weigh much…"
"You can talk" Morgan countered. She subconsciously found herself snuggling further into Greg's chest. She could feel his heartbeat and knew this was real, she was safe and she forever would be in Greg's arms. "I'm happy to be kidnapped by you. The last time…wasn't so great"
"Sorry" Greg said sheepishly "I didn't think about that"
"It's okay…put me down now anyway. I feel bad about the free taxi service" Morgan giggled.
"Promise you'll come with me if I do?" Greg asked with a raised eyebrow.
"I Promise" Morgan replied honestly and Greg let her down.
"Come on, there's a diner not too far away" Greg said and took hold of the female CSI's hand to lead her. Even though their skin was ice cold due to the weather, neither CSI had ever felt so warm.
Another bolt of Lightning hit nearby and Morgan jumped, burying her head in Greg's shoulder. Greg couldn't help but smile, as he pulled Morgan closer and rubbed an arm up and down her back comfortingly.
"Lightning's not so scary" Greg told her "When I was a kid and it scared me, my Papa Olaf use to tell me if I got struck by it I'd gain superpowers" Greg said with a light laugh "I knew he was kidding of course, but my mom was so mad him, she was convinced I would go out and try to get hit by it on purpose. My Papa had a weird sense of humour."
"We could test the theory?" Morgan said "I feel like I could use some superpowers right now"
"Why's that?" Greg asked.
"Well, who doesn't want superpowers?" Morgan pointed out, but she knew that wasn't the real reason Greg had asked. "Because then I could feel strong again. After everything that happened…I can't help but feel weak, and I'm angry that I let it happen when I felt so in control…" she trailed off and looked at the floor sadly.
"Hey" Greg said stopping and raising Morgan's chin with his finger to look at him. "Morgan, you are one of the strongest people I know. I certainly wouldn't have been brave enough to do what you did and walk out the other side. But you know what; it's okay to need people sometimes, it doesn't make you weak, it makes you human"
"Thank you" Morgan whispered.
"Don't mention it" Greg replied "I'm always going to be here for you, Morgan, whenever you need me…I'm going to kiss you now" he said with a nod.
"What?" Morgan said in confusion before she found Greg's cold lips being pressed against hers.
But it didn't matter that they were cold, because a warm flow rocked Morgan's body, like a spark had just been ignited within her. Nothing had ever felt so right to her. And suddenly, there was no storm in the CSIs minds, just the two of them, basking in the perfect moment. Finally, Greg pulled away and Morgan found herself smiling.
"What a glorious feelin', I'm happy again" Morgan sang with a grin and they both laughed.
"No fair! You know you're a good singer and I'm not" Greg said with a pout.
"You weren't that bad" Morgan teased and Greg tickled her a little in revenge, before bringing her into his arms once more. "Greg?"
"Yeah"
"I wanna go inside" Morgan said seriously.
"Good" Greg said, taking her hand as they started walking again "By the way, I think it's pretty hot we made out in the rain. Like one of those romantic films"
"You watch those kinds of films?" Morgan asked with a lopsided smile.
"No!" Greg said in mock offence. "Now come on, we're going for a run!"
Morgan couldn't help but laugh at the thought of how the pair of them must look as Greg dragged her at a run through all the puddles. They were acting like a couple of love struck teenagers and must have looked like drowned rats, but Morgan didn't care. She wanted to hold Greg's hand forever. And now the storms which use to bring her sadness would fill her with nothing but joy.
I'm sorry, okay! I know the song was cheesy but I couldn't help it! How could I write a story in the rain and not mention that song? XD Besides, I hear Elisabeth Harnois is a good singer.
More prompts, there are never enough!
Please Review :) xx
