A/N: Hey people! Thanks for the thoughts on the last story, And since that one was just a bit of fun, we are now back to the dramatic angst, Morganders style! This prompt comes from Csi121099 who requested some Hurt! Greg and Guilty! Morgan. So, I hope you enjoy! :)

Summary – Greg and Morgan have an argument, the consequences of which leaves one of them fighting for their life.

The Things We Do

Morgan couldn't help but feel pissed. At first, she'd found it sweet that Greg felt the need to protect her more than usual, but now it was kind of starting to get on her nerves.

Morgan's incident with the helicopter has happened over a week ago, yet Greg still insisted on beating himself up about it, no matter how many times Morgan said it wasn't his fault. However, the female CSI soon grew tired of Greg not listening to her. Consequently, one night, the very close friends found themselves in their first argument.

"But, it was my fault!" Greg argued for what seemed like the thousandth time "Russell told me to go. I should have just done as I was told and then none of this would have happened to you!"

"I am not some fragile doll, Greg!" Morgan snapped back "I have accepted what happened, and it hasn't emotionally scarred me to the point where I can't function anymore! Sorry to disappoint you…"

"You think I want you to be upset?" Greg asked incredulously as he stopped photographing the body. The crime scene was in a murky back alley, which reflected both the CSI's moods right now. "Morgan, I just don't want you to bottle stuff up"

"I'm not!" the female CSI protested "I am fine, why can't you accept that?! You're making a bigger deal out of this than me! I'm sick of you looking over your shoulder at me every two minutes…"

"I just want to protect you, how can you possibly be mad about that!?" Greg yelled. "And I do it because… because I…" he grew quiet and looked at the ground.

"Because why, Greg?" Morgan asked with a scowl as she placed her hands on her hips "Because it does something for your masculinity, having a damsel in distress? Because you think I can't take care of myself…?"

"Because I love you!" Greg finally yelled "and the thought of you being hurt, especially because of me, it kills me!"

Morgan just looked at him in shock, eyes wide, and mouth moving, but no words came out. She had no idea he felt that way, and a sudden pang of guilt started to eat away at the youngest CSI's stomach.

"Greg, I…" she stuttered, but the male CSI just raised his hand to silence her.

"Save it, Morgan" Greg said flatly. "You don't understand how I feel right now and… if you just want me to leave you alone from now on, then that's what I'm going to do..." he said picking up his kit "I'm taking the evidence back to the lab" he mumbled and then turned to head down the alley.

Nice work, Brody Morgan thought angrily to herself as she turned and kicked a nearby rock in frustration, why can't you just keep your mouth shut?

As Morgan watched Greg retreating form, she thought about all the ways in which he made her happy, and now she was literally just watching that happiness walk away. Admittedly, she would have never had made it through her first night home if Greg had not agreed to come home and talk to her. They'd spent all night just chatting about general things which didn't matter, but it was Greg's smile when he said those words which had helped Morgan through. And she couldn't just let Greg leave her life like this…Morgan had to tell him she loved him too.

"Greg!" she cried, running to catch up with him, but Greg was already on the other side of the street, loading evidence into his car. Morgan ran from the alley, so hyped up with emotion that she didn't realise she had ran into the middle of the road. "Greg!" she called again, this time catching his attention.

The female CSI grew confused as she saw Greg's eyes widen in fear "Morgan!" he cried back in terror, before running out to her, and shoving her back to the kerb.

At first, Morgan couldn't understand why as she looked up at Greg from the floor, but all of a sudden, there was a shocking screeching sound, followed by the nauseating sound of flesh meeting metal. All Morgan could do was watch in horror, as the front of the car ploughed into Greg, causing the male CSI to fly onto the bonnet and smash into the front window. Greg's limp and bleeding body then rolled back onto the ground.

"No!" Morgan cried in panic as she came out of her frozen state and scrabbled over to her friend's side. "No, oh God! Greg, please, talk to me" she pleaded with tears streaming down her face as she brought the man's head to rest in her lap.

Greg's eyes were rolling around in a daze. Blood was streaming out his mouth, nose, down his forehead, basically any area of flesh Morgan could see. His right leg was also twisted at a funny angle and his face was distorted in incomprehensible pain.

The driver of the car had got out from his vehicle, calling for the ambulance. He couldn't believe what had happened. He'd beeped for the woman to get out of the way, but she was so caught up in something she hadn't heard. Then the man had come out too, shocking the driver, causing him to hit the brakes too late.

"A-an Ambulance is coming" he told the female CSI with a shaky voice.

Morgan just looked up at him with daggers in her eyes, before turning back to Greg and running a comforting hand through his blood sticky hair.

"Greg, please just hang on, okay?" Morgan said her voice still distorted with shaky sobs "Please, I'm so sorry, I can't lose you!"

Greg just let out a breath of pain and anguish, before moving his shaky hand and limply taking Morgan's wrist. The female CSI gave a small smile and decided to take this as a sign that he was willing to fight.

"I came to tell you I love you too" she whispered, placing a soft kiss on Greg's forehead, not caring about the blood. "So I need you to stay strong, so that we can be together"

In the following moments, Morgan sat whispering words of comfort to Greg, and the paramedics soon arrived. At first, Morgan had protested to leaving Greg's side, and she had eventually been dragged away by some cops who had arrived. The female CSI was in utter despair as she watched the medics load a now unconscious Greg into the back of the ambulance.

Morgan managed to break free and insisted on going with them. She sat by Greg's head and took his limp hand in hers, delicately rubbing the back of it with her thumb.

"Now I understand how you feel…"Morgan whispered, running a hand through Greg's hair "Now I understand what it's like to feel so guilty…"

Morgan had been sat in the waiting room ever since Greg was brought to the hospital. The youngest CSI hadn't stopped shaking as she wrapped her arms around herself and stared at the wall ahead, oblivious to the rest of the world. How could she have been so stupid? How could Greg have been so stupid as to save her? Surely he couldn't love her that much…Morgan felt unworthy of that love right now.

Half an hour of waiting, and Nick and Russell arrived, having heard about the accident from the cops.

"Hey, Morgan" Russell said with a sympathetic smile as he sat beside the younger woman. "How's Greg doing?"

"They haven't told me anything yet" Morgan mumbled in response.

"Nothing?" Nick stated in disbelief, clearly frustrated by not knowing what was happening to his younger brother. "Wait til I get my hands on the guy who did this…"

"Well, then you might as well hit me" Morgan said with tears in her eyes.

Nick frowned "What do you mean?"

"The reason Greg got hit by that car is…" Morgan gulped as she tried to hold back her tears, but soon failed "… is because he was pushing me out of the way" she buried her head in her hands and began to sob "This is all my fault!"

"Hey, come here" Russell said, pulling the woman into his chest, and letting his fatherly instinct take over. "This is not your fault, okay? It was an accident"

"Yeah, Greg wouldn't blame you" Nick said, feeling sad at seeing the woman he loved like a younger sister cry "No one does"

"But why did he do that?" Morgan asked. "Why would Greg almost die for me like that?"

"Because, there really is no limit to the things we'd do for the ones we love" Russell told her, rubbing comforting circles in the small of her back.

"Greg's always been the self-sacrificing type" Nick added, thinking back to the beating incident "It's just in his nature"

Morgan gave each of the male CSI's a smile of appreciation "I love Greg, so much, and I can't believe it took him being hit by a car for me to realise that"

"Well, Greg's never done anything in the conventional sense" Nick said with a small smile.

Just then, a doctor came towards them. Russell and Morgan immediately stood up, and Nick just looked even more anxious.

"Mister Sanders is a very lucky man" Doctor Randall started by saying "We managed to clean up and stitch the majority of his wounds, and fix his broken leg back into place. Internally, there appears to be no signs of bleeding or head trauma, just four broken ribs on his left side which will heal over time"

"Thank you Doctor, that's great news" Russell said as Nick and Morgan still appeared to be in shock.

"You're welcome" the doctor smiled "Mister Sanders is actually awake now, although he's drowsy from the painkillers. He's asking for… Morgan?"

"Yeah, that's me" the blond CSI spoke up. Oh God, he probably wants to yell at me, tell me he hates me.

"Go ahead" Nick said with a smile of encouragement, as the younger woman looked back at him.

"If you'd like to follow me" Doctor Randall said with a smile and Morgan followed him down the hall to Greg's room.

Morgan entered to find Greg looking sluggishly at the door, waiting for her arrival. The CSI gave him a small, weary smile, before pulling a chair up beside him and taking hold of his hand.

"Hey" Greg said groggily "Thank God you're okay."

"Thanks to you" Morgan said with a smile as she ran a hand though his hair.

"When I saw the car…I was so scared" Greg said sincerely "I guess it was just karma for me though, since I hit Demetrius James… now I know how it feels."

"Hey, you didn't deserve this" Morgan told him firmly "I was the one who deserved this. I was being stubborn, and I still struggle to understand why you did this for me…"

"I would do anything for you, Morgan" Greg whispered "I didn't mean it when I said I'd just leave you alone. I love you"

"I love you too" Morgan said quietly "But I wish you had just left, because then it would be me laying in this bed, and not you. It was my own stupid fault for not realising where I was going…"

Greg couldn't help but smile at this "Well, now you know how I felt after the helicopter crash, knowing that it should have been me…"

"Well, there really is no limit to the things we'd do for the ones we love" Morgan relayed Russell's words.

Greg smiled in agreement "And I love you with all my heart"

Morgan smiled "Thank you for saving me…" she said, leaning forward and giving his delicate lips a soft kiss "I think I could get use to you looking after me…"
